@@zundfolge1432 and it is a very simple process. takes a few minutes once you get the appointment. usually like fire it up and he hears diesel rattle and your done.
I think my brother-in-law told me that this is that really cool vehicle that if you swap out and reverse some other vehicle’s oil pan that you can reduce the DMV fees somehow with this other part installed. Don’t hold me to it. Don’t ask me how. Salvage maybe? Not sure. And what’s cool is that these cars are runners. Serious runners.
I’m hoping it is just sediment that will wash out soon. Thanks for sharing, i always loved the old rabbits and the pickup style is very functional. Even if it wont carry half a ton.
had a 1980 diesel rabbit with 1.5L in it. Wrecked car in 1990 or 91. Dunno if those engines were any good. I noticed the alternator belt looked loose, or is that normal tension? My alternator went out on me going from los angeles to fresno and I just unplugged all the lights but one headlamp and one tail light. Worked since the diesel injector solenoid amperage draw was very little so I made it home
My foreman had one in the eighties. He used it to go take his hang gliders up the mountain . It had a recall for the PCV system because it could stay running from just the blow by. I always thought it would be a good engine in a sailboat or a small fishing boat.
A couple of questions How was it running before you parked it ? Does manual cold start timing advance move freely via cable and with cable disconnected ? General problems I have found, not necessarily to this problem as I do not know how it was running before 1. slow response to throttle movement or does not come off idle = worn fly weights cleves pivots and fly weight carrier or crap in carrier 2. lift pump worn out / stuck veins. ( this is why I asked if manual. timing lever free at bottom of pump ) this usually means crap build up in pump. ( lift pump , fly weights, ETC. flyweights and carrier use to be approximately $ 45.00 lift pump gears were $ 27.00 if housing is not worn too badly . Black rubber crap that causes this is from rubber connector disc. between input and high pressure pump. disc use to be $ 7.00 gasket kit was around $11.00 if you go that far front input shaft bushing was $ 9.00 and had to be reamed to 19MM after installation. ( usually worn from over tightening belt and ovaled out - (front seal weeping or leaking) I have only replaced high pressure piston once due to water in pump and it was scored and rusted from sitting. that usually all that goes bad One point - on the tear down --carrier shaft is left handed thread.
before it was parked it ran perfect. no running issues. lots of power. I never used the advance lever. cable was bad. had no problems starting even without the glow plugs or timing advance just took a bit more cranking. I will try moving the cable lever to see if it is free good point. IDK if that has anything to do with the lift pump veins .
this old truck getting better mpg than the modern stuff is astonishing. Great to hear you put it to proper use, got any pictures of the truck on the worksite?
maybe but that was pretty long ago. kept it mostly in socal. Never went out of the area like I said for fear it would break down and parts not available.
Very cool truck Mike - thanks for sharing. Enjoy the weekend 👍💯😊
FYI if you put one of these engines in a Vanagon. you Literally eliminate smog checks. Guys say you can get about 30mpg.
can you do a gas to diesel engine swap in Ca anymore?
@@zundfolge1432 yes as far as I know I know some people who have done it recently. call the referee just to be sure. but it should be just fine

yea they vibrate so much sometimes they wear a groove in the belt bracket.

Hey Mike ! I remember when it was running a few years ago . You did some videos on him .

my favorite 2 save money on fuel
let me know the price //where do you live ?
clean out the injectors //and run trans flu into fuel tank
The coffee place you talked about is woke; worthless. Dunkin is better and cheaper.
yea I hate those guys. they are ruining the world. I would rather get coffee at a gas station. But I look for competitors
