I love this knife. I bought the plain edge and the fully serrated edge one. The ergonomics on this knife are stellar. The handle reminds me of the handle on the Stretch. It fills the hand that way. The part to love is the proximity of the cutting blade to the handle. I also have a wharnie Delica, but the Rockjumper feels like a seriously upgraded Delica design. The knife is so easy to use and cuts like crazy. Love it.
I’m actually a fan of this one, and could see myself getting one! Although I literally just blew my knife budget for the next month or two, I’ll keep an eye on this one for sure, Thanks Bryan!
I think I would send the extra 20 and get a native 5 or chaparral. Great vid, thanks! ETA: I really liked this review. You bring up the price repeatedly, and that’s a good thing. I am a huge Spyderco fan, and I have quite a few of them that see pocket time. That said, Spyderco has some models that are way too expensive for what they are. I have the Endura and the Delica . I wouldn’t buy either one of them now, because there are just better options for the money. Many of those better options are made by Spyderco, and I think Spyderco should pay attention to that.
It makes me think of the Stretch more than anything else. I bought a sprint run Stretch a while back. Along with some fit and finish issues, it just didn’t fit my hand well, and I couldn’t get into it.
So I just ordered this for my brother who isn't a knife Guy, for his first knife for his birthday this year 🤷🏼♂️ I hope he likes it. He lives out of state and I had it sent to him. He does have hunting knives that he likes to sharpen. I hope I made the right choice. So many models so little money
Had a chance to hold one of these at my local knife shop. No word lie, it is really comfy in hand. One thing I didn't like about the delica is the skinny handle. The rock jumper on the other hand has a taller handle, and best of all, its all curves in the middle of the handle. No peeks or dedicated finger positions, just curves. And the front of the handle comes up closer to the edge versus the delica, and you cant forget the much taller wharnie blade VS the wharnie delica. Hope they do some sprints soon.
Picked one up yesterday. VERY impressed. Smoothest action so far out of any of my other Spyderco's except the cheaper China made liner locks. My Tenacious is silky smooth. I would carry it daily but it is smaller than I prefer. I've been carrying the Endura with WC blade. I also grabbed the Native Chief but it needs some break in before I carry it so lots of fidget time coming up with it. That is all part of the fun though.
This model doesn't have a sharpening choyle(don't know how that is spelled) bc this is meant for mountaineers, that's why it has no jimping, so it doesn't snag on climbing rope, and has an oversized lanyard hole, to clip onto a climbing gear rack. They didn't want the choyle bc they wanted the user to be able to just not to have to look and make sure they're using the cutting edge, bc it's all cutting edge. Anyways, that's how it was explained in the Spyderco video at one of those blade shows. I would love to see this in K390, but VG10 does make more sense so you can even sharpen it on a rock in the field. But I paid only 55$ bucks for mine in 2024, so you can always find a good sale on Spyderco models.
I agree with you on value fora VG10 knife . I just ordered my first Delica. It is the ZDP189. I know you won't like it because it is British racing green.
I like Spyderco, wouldn't call myself a fan boy...but a lot of these comments seem to be coming from people that know very little about knives. Some of these "comparisons" are mind boggling.
I had heard it was a good deal. For the materials not so sure about that but then when you figure the way Spyderco prices their new items probably is. Do like the looks especially the blade. Thanks for sharing it.
I have to admit that the classic lock back Spyderco’s have become overpriced for what you get, however, I love that fat Wharncliffe the Rockjumper has too.
My only lightweight spyderco is the wharnie delica. Little too small. I'd have gotten this before the delica if it were available, but damn buying that when there's a manix 2 lightweight.
The Rock Jumper is a light scaled down Yojimbo for people who like wharncliffes in a more carryeable size and still have that aggressive tip for ripping should the need arise ! Clipping this on jogging, to the grocers, daily routine makes you forget it's there with better ergonomics than the Delica Wharncliffe just a tinge bigger than ...
90$ for the McKenna with”Damascus “ steel ,liner lock . Not the greatest materials but the design and quality make it worth it. The price is in the design and build not so much materials theses days. Get a Byrd one similar? Maybe? The clip On Spyderco drive me crazy ! Get with the times !! Until then I’m out on all Spydercos without deep pocketclip
60 bucks sure, but $86 spyderco fan boys will still buy it and think it a steal. The Manix 2 is one of my favorite knives but I do not see the draw of the vg10 /frn spydercos.
2 things... 1, I'm glad to know I'm now the only one that thinks the Delica is drastically overrated. (It'd be better with a 50/50 choil.) And 2, they NEED to retire VG 10!!! Or move it down to their budget china made models. VG10 so 2000 and late.

Love a wharnie, would luv an LC200N version of this, maybe the new Salt green
I want one with the ivory scales they used on the straight spine stretch 2 but still with the lc200n steel;)

I also like the design of it but $86 is too high for it. I bought a Civivi Elementum in s35vn for the same price
@David P. ...that’s sad, don’t you think?
You must be new to the game...There is no way you can compare these two knives.
The Rockjumper is more of a hard use knife than the Elementum.
@@Rick-mo2zm They should done it in s30v then it would been priced correctly.
Haha I bought one new for 56 and sold it for 125
Hope they do one in K390 and LC200N!

I picked up a serrated model since it’s VG10. I love the design, much better than a Delica. I’ll be buying any other steel releases.
You won't have to sharpen the serrated one too often. (I know, folks hate serrated knives, even though Spyderco serrations are really good.)
It makes me think of the Stretch more than anything else. I bought a sprint run Stretch a while back. Along with some fit and finish issues, it just didn’t fit my hand well, and I couldn’t get into it.

Thanks for the overall review Bryan.
I finally laid hands on one and I like it a lot actually. Make me one in lc200n and its on!!

nice little knife. spyderco has a love, hate type of feel lol.

Looks like a mix of their Penknife and Dragonfly.
Just picked one of these up for 59.99$, thought that was a great price.
Throw k390 or rex45 on that and I'd jump on it in a second
I like the look of the RockJumper but I'd much rather spend an extra $10-15 and get the Para 3 Lightweight. Great review, great video Bryan.
2 years later how is it going & crap they are 92 now
Might get a zdp one if it comes out, but I will not buy a vg10 Spyderco
It's not the steel, or the handle materials, or the build quality.
Did you guess?
It's just the price. 🤦♂️🤣
That Maxamet has spoiled you. Lol. Happens to the best of us.
No. I've been having child like fits about Spyderco VG-10 for years lol.

Honestly, I would love an upgraded one of these with a compression lock.
But why tho
86 is way high for vg10 and plastic......56 would be more reasonable imo
RockJumper is an odd name. I googled rock jumper and a type of bird came up.
Spyderco click bait gets me everytime.

Those FRN scales look like they belong on a $10 gas station knife.
Great design ...horrible materials. Over priced
