Plugged gas ports in the nut which holds the carburetor's float cup. If you'd like to cut to the chase, so to speak, skip to 3:45 in the video. Hope this helps someone. - Навчання та стиль
Good sir, you just saved me from having to buy a new carb. I had torn it down, cleaned everything, new the float worked and the needle was traveling correctly and still wouldn't start. Your tip about the bowl boat was the exact same problem I had. After several long soaks in carb cleaner and a couple good hits with compressed air, viola! She works! Thank you very much for taking the time to save other cost and headache.
Fantastic! my Quantum was dying immediately. Cleaned the dirt inside the bolt and now, all fixed. Receiving a new carburetor by the Post in a few days (but won t need it !! thanks to your explanations ). Thanks a lot
I was actually trying to find the part number of the carburetor when I stumbled upon your video. Mower is fixed now with no need for new parts thanks to you!
I had cleaned my carburator and couldn't get my engine to run right. Changed the plug, no improvement. I always use Seafoam with my gas and use gasoline with no ethanol in it. I ran the engine rich to get anything out of it and it was still hard to start. When I saw and listened to your explanation about the main jet and the plugged ports I removed my bowl, took the main jet off, blew carburator cleaner through it, put it back on and the engine starts first pull now. Yay! Bravo!!!
Thanks to this video I fixed my neighbors powerwasher. He was so happy he gave me a riding mover that just needs the mowing deck repaired!
Wow, thanks to you I got my lawnmower fixed on my own. I spent a day cleaned and checked everything but the lawnmower did not start. No fuel was getting to the engine. I decided to give up and take it to the lawnmower repair shop. I saw your video, cleaned the screw and bingo started immediately! Thanks again!
Thanks a lot. Your video allowed me to do what the professional repair shop couldn't or wouldn't do. If anyone is ever in Manning SC do not go to Palmetto Outdoor Power Equipment. They claimed they couldn't get my mower to start and run. I took the carb off with the help of this video, cleaned it and it's working great. Thanks again!!!
Thanks for the video. REAL QUICK! Remove the brass nut on the bottom of the carb bowl, and clean out the top orifice and two side orifices with a pin, needle , small wire or tiny undersized drill bit. Blow out with carb cleaner and re-assemble. Add carb cleaner / storage additive to keep it clean in winter. No Need to Remove the carburetor.
Thank goodness for this video. I fought the exact same lawn mower for an entire day trying just about everything. I boiled the carburetor float bowl nut in water and vinegar. Started up immediately. Success.
Thanks for your video. I just removed the bolt and bowl, cleaned the holes in the bolt, cleaned the bowl, and reassembled. Wow! My main mower died today after 26 years so I had to get out my spare but previously perfect mower. But I had let the gas settle and dry. You really made my day! Thanks!
Spot on! You helped me fix my 2005 B&S 6.5 hp 3500W generator. Cleaned carb all around. Only a couple of mouse clicks from ordering a new one (not skilled enough for rebuild kits). Cleaned the nut with ports with very small wire and carb cleaner and compressed air. Reinstalled and started on first pull !!! Great Job !!
thats exactly what it was, an easy fix. somebody left a brand new craftsman on the curb for free as they couldnt start it after the winter sitting with the ethanol gas in it and got mad obviously. I simply undid the carb float bolt/nut as shown, cleaned the clogged orifices, wiped off the gunk, drained and refilled with pure gas and starts with one pull runnin strong. I knew this from the past but liked the refresher video here.
Thanks geezer. 2021 and I just fixed a mates mower that was doing exactly as yours was. It wasn't totally blocked but close enough. Cleaned her out and she purring like a kitten.
Your video has saved the day! I’ve had the carburetor off my pressure washer 3 times since yesterday troubleshooting . This one wouldn’t start at all. Thought I had cleaned every part of the carb until I watched this lol. I simply removed the bolt and could see it immediately. A quick cleaning and reinstalling it worked like a charm. Thanks again!
I was gonna buy a new carburetor. Found this video, cleaned the bolt, and it stays running. Thank you. 🍻
Just fixed my lawnmower using your video! Thanks a MILLION.
You are a life saver! Worked on many small carbs in the past but never knew this! Thanks so much!
I cleaned every part of the carbeurator EXCEPT that nut, which I thought was just a nut...didn't notice the little holes in it! Thanks.
I've been watching UA-cam videos for two days trying to fix this issue on my mower and you're the first person to suggest a clogged fuel bowl nut. Everyone else seemed to have me tearing apart the entire carb looking for clogged ports everywhere else. Thank you sir! Fixed my problem in two minutes without having to tear my carb apart again.

YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK! I had completely torn apart and cleaned the carburetor... and was pulling out my hair (what little I have left) with frustration... Completely missed this... Thank you, your video saved me a trip to the ER!
Thanks. It was the float bowl nut. Tried for 3 days pulling the carburetor apart and cleaning it before I found your article. Thanks again.
Oh man, I was about to replace the carb on my generator until I tried this. I didn't see any clogs, but sure enough a couple of sprays with carb cleaner through the holes and it runs now! I had taken the bowl off with that screw about 50 times today looking for clogs and sediment. +suleskes you saved my day man!
Thank you for sharing. For fixing erratic speed, and those who don't care about how the carburetor works, all they need to do is just watch the last part of the video and unscrew the brass nut holding the cup to the carburetor to clean the two holes. Thats the first thing to do before tearing up the carb. Thanks.
Aziz Kian , thank you!
I hear that.
My bolt under the float had no holes but your video inspired to take a look at the float and it was installed upside down, I reversed it and I am good to go... Never been so excited to mow lawns since I was a kid.
Hi, thanks for your helpful video...I was able to start up and cut my lawn with a Lawnmower-Toro 6.0 HP Model 20010 after it sat in storage for 10 years...it started
after 2 pulls...thanks again for video!!!
Great video. My rotorvator ran for about 30 seconds then as soon as I engaged the drive it stalled. Also I was having to run with choke on prior to this. Followed your instructions and found green layer, like lacquer, in the float bowl. Cleaned it all off with white spirit, steel wool, used a pin to clean holes and works perfectly now. Saved me so much hassle as I was able to finish the job that day. I have been told the green substance was cleaner the fuel station puts in, nice.
Just fixed my pressure washer, thanks to you Suleskes.
I cleaned every part of the mower and thought this was just a nut....many thanks!
You sir get a gold star. Thanks for saving me so much time I was going to put the carb but alas just had to clean that bolt/jet assembly.
Great video!! I had that exact same problem!! I've been trying to get it started for two days after it sitting for a few months. took the carburetor apart twice and cleaned it twice but never thought to look at that nut until this video. Thanks a lot!!
If there is a heaven you are in for sure for sharing this unclogging the holes in the brass bolt secret. I I did everything but that. A pure savior of mankind's time and mind. Thank you so much!
this was actually the problem with my snow blower..after cleaning the carb numerous times with no luck, I seen this video and went out and cleaned the nut hole that goes down, it was clogged .. I said no way is it that easy.put it back together, and whalaaa!!fired up first pull and runs great!! thank god for youtube videos..
Dragonslayer4w4 very informative
Same thing on my dad's snowblower. Luckily we found this video and I was able to walk him through cleaning out the screw!
Well that was it, THANK YOU I can't afford another lawnmower so I took it on and low and behold the carb. cleaning didn't work. well back to youtube. another idea, didn't work then YOU. I had no idea that bowl nut or whatever it is had dual purpose. The bottom hole must have been plugged not the side ones. Now it's running again. Thank again good job
That bottom nut holding on the float bowl…… that was the culprit. Thanks for the video which fixed my mower.
I found that my mower has 2 side holes also on the fuel bowl bolt. One of the holes was plugged. Great video! I'm glad I watched it.
Nice work. Solved my problem. Starts first pull once again... it was the holes that were 90% clogged. Just ordered new float bowl and gaskets as the old gasket had worn out and probably is part of what gunked up the holes.
Thanks for the video. My pressure washer has been sitting for years and the varnish had clogged the holes in that screw. It takes a very fine wire to get that top one cleaned out. Once it was clean (and I'd changed the oil and added fresh gas), the engine ran great.
Thank you! This fixed my problem and saved me from buying a new carb.
Fantastic video. Saved me a shed load of time and effort. Thanks!
Sure enough, the orifice in the bowl nut was clogged preventing fuel from getting to the carb on my Briggs and Stratton engine for my log splitter. Works great now, thanks for the video instruction.....
So I had exactly the same problem and like you but not quite to the same extent, I took things apart but still no luck. Watched your video, went back and pulled that brass plug and sure enough, plugged. Ran a needle through the hole, reinstalled and boom, off she went! Thanks so much for the great video and solution! On we go…
Thank you so much! This was exactly my problem! I wish I would have watched this before I replaced the thermostat & carburetor. It's a pain in the butt to replace that thermostat.
Awesom! Just fixed my power washer that would not start. Thank you sir! The bolt at the bottom of carburetor was clogged and I had cleaned the carburetor the day before but missed the bolt and now it runs like a champ.
Ditto
Poulan Pro Briggs & Stratton 675EX Series, this was my exact problem, thank you for your video and helpful information.
Hey thanks so much, your advice allowed me to get my pressure washer running without having to take it to my father-in-law for repairs!
You just saved me a ton of time.
You’re my hero.
THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL.
This Video Just opened my Mobile Detailing Business! Thanks !
I just pulled off the air cleaner and took off the float bowl nut and cleaned it. I am running like new! Thanks!
Thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for and it worked perfectly.
Worked for me as well!! Thank you for this video, didn't even have to take the carburetor down because od this video 🤙, thank you sir!!!
Outstanding! Thanks for posting. I have starting issues too; I will try this out.
Thank you for your post. In my never to be humble opinion you have earned your place in heaven as far as I am concerned!
The key is the tiny hole that runs through the body of the nut on the float cup. Soak the bolt in carb cleaner, then run a fine wire through the tiny hole
until you can see it through the larger two holes which intersect the small channel. Use the wire from a twist tie, after stripping off the plastic or paper. Worked like a charm for me.
Don't often post, but I must take the time to Thank You. I cleaned EVERYTHING (except that jet bolt). :/ Thank you for your time.
What a great video. I was looking to change the carb as I had cleaned and checked it several times, didn't check that nut though. I will be trying this out first thing tomorrow!
how could 138 people thumb down this video....it was great. Thanks.
thank you for the video it fixed the problem I had on my mower that I had had apart several times thanks again
thank you your video helped me and gave me all the information I needed to fix my carburetor on my generator ;-))
just saved me a whole bunch of time, thank you!
Great Video! Helped me out immensely
Thank You , this worked to perfection !!!
thanks. made my mower work like a charm.
Best You Tube Video. This was a easy job and didn't cost me a thing but a little time Don't buy a new carb when its so easy to clean it Thanks Suleskes
Love that you pull the mower onto the wife's best rug 😂
carburetor float vessel, float reservoir, it's actually called the float bowl
Hell Ya it worked, I think in general, just stripping the carb down to it's basic parts and clean the crap out of every little part, My problem was it would start, run for about 3 seconds and then die, now it runs great! props, lesson learned!!
Great Video , My pressure washer wouldn't start this year and that was the problem You saved me time and money ThankYou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. Great video and a fixer!!
Thanks for the video. Do you have a video of putting it back together? I was given a lawnmower that doesn't run. Come to find out many things aren't connected. One of them being the automatic choke. What' gets connected there? I can't find anything.
Thanks for this video this helped alot!!
This fixed my mower!!! TY!
Man this is awesome great vid. Thankyou
Great Job. Love this video.
Just found out if fuel is left in your tank over a month it begins to break down and will not start. The ethanol sets at the bottom of the tank and will cause no starts. The tank had to be completely drained and fresh fuel added to the tank. It started right up after replacing the month old fuel.
Thank you so much! Made it easy!
the wed wacker will run if you spray gas in the intake of the carb. i have clean the primer assy and replaced the bulb and paper gasket between the carb and primer assy, but still can not get the primer to work. any ideas?
Clem schmitter Thank you. Great Video and a Fixer!!!!
Had mine apart (used to run the hydraulic pump on my husky log splitter) and I had already shined up the coil and used air to clean out the jet in the carb, guess I should try cleaning the nut intake
Thanks for video. I'm looking for carb info to order replacement parts. Could you tell me the carb information before I break my engine down. Would like to pre order parts.
I have one of the Murray 30" mini riders with a similar carb. I had intermittent fuel issues with it from the second week I had it. Turned out to be that bowl nut. I'd sprayed them through with carb cleaner and assumed they were clear... not so much. I probed the holes with a drill bit of a slightly smaller diameter and pulled out a small brass chip left over from the machining process. =/
Is there a o ring where the float needle seets? When I tried blowing thru the passage way where gas enters it was clogged...noticed something red where the needle sits? After reassembling the carb and pressing the priming bulb I noticed a lot of gas seeping thru where the gasket and the carb meet....wasn't sure if I just need another gasket or if I pulled out an o ring
thanks for the helpful video!
Awsome cleaning that nut worked for me
I had the same problem about 4 to 5 years ago with a blocked jet in the carby and now I now always use a very fine mesh when pouring petrol into the tank.I could not believe the crap one get from buying petrol at the station.I found sand ,dirt and ever pubic hair in the damn thing.
Glad you’re learning.
Same carb body as a snow blower however the choke is set up different. The Toro snow blower doesn't have an air filter by design. All the air ports can get gunked up easily.
Thanks, worked a treat!
This guy is a WONDER! I had a Briggs Generator that has given me troubles .... Start and then quit! ( sound familiar? ) The bottom "bolt" was completely PLUGGED... as were most jets...One more issue..Before the starting issue, the generator would quit by itself after some time. . The plastic gas tank vent was completely PLUGGED also.... You should see how much FUNK came flying out after carb Cleaner, wire reaming and 90 PSI!
It started with the first pull! and ran perfect.
Briggs model 030238 Generator...121012 0114 E1 Motor....591299 Carb
The root cause of this problem is ethylene dibromide (EDB) which is an additive to the refined petroleum fuel. It degrades over a period of months and produces the gunk sediment that settles in the float bowl and glues up carb jet ports and those small holes in the brass pieces. This affects everyones engines, even us in England !
Very useful to know !! Thanks
Are all the carburators on the B&S Quantum engines the same aside from hp? I'm trying to find a replacement carb for my troy built 6.75hp 2500 psi pressure washer with B&S Quantum with no luck
thanks this helps a lot my 5 year old power washer is working.
Sir, I cant tell you thank you enough!!! This totally worked for me!! Exactly what i needed! And thank you for the explanation of what everything does at the beginning!!!!
dale horton1 second agoI have a Briggs & Straton 625 , when I pull the rope to start ,it jerks the rope out of my hand and hurts my hand / how do I fix this?
Question on the Briggs bowl nut. When not plugged, you can clearly see through to the other side when looking through the bottom holes. My question is in regard to the top "jet" hole. Can you pass a wire through that all the way down to the lower bottom holes? I'm looking at my Briggs carb bowl nut, and I am not able to see down into that jet very far and a wire stops short of the bottom holes. I cant tell if this means the jet port is plugged or not.
no you cant see through it.. just stick a needle in their and ream it out then shoot some carb cleaner through the top hole, it should stream through the side holes, then its clear..
IF SOMEONE CAN HELP! I took apart the entire carburetor, cleaned inside out twice including that gas pan nut but still lawn mower is stalling after few minutes and then I have to press that 3x button few times to get the fuel in to get it going for next few minutes, once the resvoir is empty it stalls again...any suggestions?? seems like fuel pan isn't getting any fuel in?
I have a Briggs & Straton 625 , when I pull the rope to start ,it jerks the rope out of my hand and hurts my hand / how do I fix this?
If you blow it out with compressed air check that the tiny red rubber seal is seated under the needle valve.
thank's for the info it worked for me
What size wrench is needed to remove the nut from the bottom of the carburetor bowl?
