PLEASE KEEP IN MIND when you are watching my videos: I am showing you the least expensive, quickest "backyard" methods for repairing or servicing your lawnmower. Replacing all components such as gaskets and fuel lines is always recommended when rebuilding or repairing equipment. With these videos I hope you are able to fix and repair your lawnmower yourself with minimal parts, knowledge and tools. Thank you for watching!
The assembly of the lawn mower could be done without any problems ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend I just puzzled something about the red strange “key”. However, it quickly turned out that this creates a kind of contact bridge between battery packs and lawn mowers. An additional backup as a father of a 1 year old nephew is great!! :-)
I did it, I did it I brought my mower back to life.. Thank you thank you Jeff.
Where is the carburetor to air filter housing gasket?
it's there but not as crucial as when there is a primer button
Great video seriously. Would like any additional comments on the advance technique of dousing the entire lawnmower with gasoline at the end. LOL.
seems to always happen.....!.
Great video, very informative. I especially love that you're listening to Tool in the background
Jeff: My Briggs & Stratton 7.0 horse lawn mower will not hold an even idle. It starts out high, then drops to low, then goes back up high, then drops low again. I rebuilt the carb with new gaskets, idle seat, and valve. It didn't do this before I rebuilt it. Previously, it was hard to start which led to rebuilding it. Is this a simple fix? Thanks for responding back. THUMBS UP!!!
It sure sounds like a fuel delivery issue. There must be something not right or plugged inside the carb.
I Have Noticed On You tube No One Puts Fuel Filters On These Push Mowers. If You Want To Do Less Carburetor Clean Outs, It Is Advisable To Add A In-Line Fuel Filter Between The Tank And Fuel Tap. They Are Cheap Guys. Save A Lot Of Headaches. You Won't Be Cleaning Them Carburetors As Much
OMG I DID IT MYSELF!!!! Thank you sooo much for the slow concise step by step instructions, with great tips.
although I DID NOT use coke to clean, used gum out carb/choke and parts cleaner...Briggs & Stratton Quantum 725..
just mowed the lawn no problems. YIPPPPPEEEE!!!! Namaste'
i have the same mower but with the primer bulb. runs fine but primer doesnt work so it always needs starting fluid to get it going. bulb is in good shape, all passages inside carb seem clear, replaced gasket on the plastic cover but nothing. any suggestions?
Rebuilt my craftsman push mower today after watching your videos. Thank you for making it so easy to follow , and again great camera work for us novices. Have some smoke coming from exhaust area but nothing looks amiss. Mower runs at correct idle now and most importantly cuts the grass!! Just in time for my kids to help out during quarantine. Thanks again Jeff!!
Glad to help
Hopefully this will help me. I've got nothing so far. Cleaned out carb and not sure about how the auto choke works so this helps.waiting on spark plug testing tool to check for spark.
Great Video, thank you, I had to hit the LIKE button my friend. The one thing I can take away from this video is that, I'M DONE WITH COKE.
Love the tool in the background
Any idea what the torque specs are on the carburetor to engine bolts and aircleaner housing to carburetor bolts. I ended up stripping the latter after cleaning the carburetor out a few times and have had to buy a new carburetor.
Loved the "tech tip of the day" didn't know about that trick.
Thanks for the detailed instructions, I rebuilt the carb and cleaned all linkages, the beast now starts on first pull!
This is actually a secret video of TOOL's new song
Yeah man , this guy has to be Cool
Get a welders tip cleaner works much better and your not scrounging to find something to clean jets with
What about cleaning up the pilot jet as the Emultion tube holes?????
My 675 series B n S has what looks like the same carb, but mine has an o-ring between the brass nut and bowl on the bottom? You lose yours?
there usually isn't a rubber oring, but there is a gasket.
Good question! There's a round fiber washer that goes on the brass nut. Don't lose it, or fuel will leak out.
I'd replace the O-ring on the intake and the gasket on the brass "nut" too
I have a craftsman a 5,00 14cc engine it star & esthal how can I fix it
Not only an excellent tutorial, but also a powerful confidence builder to attempt the repair for the neophyte! Thank you very much Jeff!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for the WD-40 tip for the seat! Made all the difference in getting the float to sit properly.
Thank you for sharing. I rebuilt my carburetor, replaced the plug etc. but my lawnmower still doesn’t start! Any suggestions?
use starting fluid to see if it tries to start but dies. If it does this you know you still have a fuel delivery problem and that the spark and compression are good..
Thumbs up for the video. Another thumbs up for TOOL playing.
Also a little metal piece the size of a pencil lead fell out of mine. Same carb, any idea??!
float hinge pin?
What a great video on this rebuild. I just did one today on same mower. I did not replace the needle valve and the red seat gasket. Maybe that's why mine still won't start. It will run on a little shot of either and then dies. Love that coke idea for cleaning. Quite the tip on that. Other than the coke, what do you use to soak/clean carbs?
Thanks for watching. I finally bought an ultra sonic cleaner and it does a great job. I have use many different detergents/soap and all seems to work well in the ultrasonic cleaner.
try vinegar, white, apple cider etc, works trust me !!! and torch tip cleaners work good for the plug (its actually the main fuel jet) mine disintegrated rainelle wv flood of 2016, the flood water had bad stuff in it !!! turned rubber wheels into purple plastic !!!
(yea I got a mouthful of it swimming to safety) some priming bulb's have a hole, some not Affects the mixture !!! nice video.
sometimes I redo the governor (connect the governor spring to the lever, (makes RPM governor controlled instead of over speed control.
all the best Sir thanks.
also a drywall screw can be threaded in the float seat to remove it, (be careful)
Well illustrated and narrated. Thank you for taking the time for this very edifying carb rebuild.
Thanks for your video. I'm doing one right now and every perspective helps
You can do it take your time and be precise.
Where can I get that spring @ 2:11, I was cleaning a briggs and stratton carb yesterday and the spring flew off at some point when I was testing to see if it would run. Now gas is pouring out of it.
You will need the model number off of the engine so you can get a part number and order the correct spring.
Some Tip cleaners for a cutting torch would be great in your toolbox instead of using wire, which works well in a pinch, but to clean the jets with the proper sized wire, get the tip cleaners for a few bucks at Home Depot. Let's eat that rooster.
Great tip! The rooster is my sidekick lol!
Hi, New subscriber here. I followed your instructions exactly (except I bought a new carb and installed it successfully. It worked! I mowed half the yard and then it stopped and would not start again. Next day, it ran for about 5 minutes and then it stopped. I left it for two hours and then I tried again. It went on but turned off within minutes. This is the problem I was having before changing the carb. Any ideas why this is happening? Why would run for half the yard and then stop? Does it sound like it could be the fly wheel? Any advice would be very appreciated.
You also need to clean the fuel tank and fuel line otherwise the problem will keep happening
@@JeffsLittleEngineService Thank you so much.
I did this, my float got stuck down. I lightly tapped the float bowl a couple times with my screw driver handle and it stopped dumping out of the carb.
now all you should do is you drain the float bowl it will help clean it out.
Buy yo a torch tip cleaner works wonders
you forgot to put the breather hose on the air filter housing !
Great Video Jeff! I feel that I can do this and get my lawnmower in shape. I got an idea: if I find a free beat up lawnmower in craigslist, I would teach my son how to repair it using your videos. And who knows! It could become a trade for him.
Great video! I didn't do a rebuild but a replace. Everything was super clear from the video and well explained. Once I had everything put back together the engine started right up!
Nice work!
Jeff appreciate the videos and think I got one that may stump you. 4 year old Briggs & Stratton 121q002-0064-f1. The beginning of the season would run on first pull then die 10 mins later. I've changed air filter carburetor, spark plug, fuel line, and this morning the armature...only to realize the same problem. What am I missing? Local shop here is busy for two weeks since yesterday's hurricane.
Sounds like a fuel delivery problem or a contaminated fuel system.. If you replaced the original carburetor with an inexpensive cheapo aftermarket version that is probably the problem now.
I tried starting it with a shot of starting fluid but won't go. I still have the original carburetor so will run through it again and see what happens. thanks for the reply.
Jeff, I doubt you'll get this comment but if you do....It would sure be good if you gave part numbers. You know, since you had OEM bags with the parts, might as well save us a step.
Agreed
Bloody hell. Thanks for the Coke idea! I usually just go straight for the carb or break cleaner. But that’s a brilliant and cheap alternative to soften things up a bit.
Really helped had cleaned everything like you said but after reassembly engine started but would not run. Took off the bowl and cleaned the main jet and found some debris in the bowl cleaned and reassembled, ran like a champ after that. Thanks for the great video
Quantum carburetor sounds like something on Futurama.
Yes! LOL
Very good video, great explanation step by step. Five Stars!
i did clean him with no parts but after 2 minutes it shuts down . i get only get it started when i push the choke back to close. can you help me.its like ,its get no gasoline
The fuel system and carburetor still need cleaning.
Good instructive video. I like to soak my carb parts in Pine Sol rather than Coke.
Thank you so much. I rebuilt two of these carbs yesterday; both mowers started right up. The guys at El Mel in St. Charles also told me to only use premium gas to keep the engine cooler.
Thanks. You added the part about making sure the choke had to fit inside the u shaped piece for the choke to make. I hadn’t. Redid it correctly, and , BAM, started on the first pull.
Great informative and detailed video. Thanks a lot Jeff.
thanks for excellent vid. you said to be careful not to disengage that black arm that goes into the engine. can you do a vid on how to reconnect that arm if you do accidentally disengage it? thanks.
At 7:20, you pulled out the tiny red needle seat that needed to be replaced... you can get the replacements at this link.. www.amazon.com/s?k=briggs+and+stratton+seat&crid=34B7Y94VRRZEA&sprefix=briggs+and+stratton+seat%2Caps%2C163&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_24
A nice video! Can you tell whether this engine has any fuel filter, please? I couldn`t see one in this video... In case of its absence, it would be a good life hack to add an inline filter cutting the tube you have cleaned by brush :)
an inline filter is a good idea. The only filter it has is a screen inside the carburetor.
@@JeffsLittleEngineService Due to... the carb is made of plastic, it doesn`t have any screen... So, its designed to feed services every season :)))
Wanted to rebuild my B & S carb, but found a complete carb on Amazon for the price of a few gaskets..,$12!
good luck with that cheap piece of crap!
@@JeffsLittleEngineService Cheap or not, the gaskets and float parts will be useful if the carb is as you describe.
Today I cleaned all around the Governor Spring and replaced the dirty air filter. Idled way too fast then died. Will try to rebuild the carburetor. Thank you for your most comprehensive video!
Came for carb cleaning tips, stayed for the TOOL background music.
Rock on!
I really liked this video. I'm strapped for time but may give this a shot. But you make it look easy. Thanks for attention to details like ....be careful about tightening things with too much force & cool tech tip 😊
Way better than the other vids on the same subject and i was sure i could do it before this now i am....double sure? lol Thanks!
You can use a set of torch tip cleaners to clean all sizes of small holes works great ! Buy them at welding supply stores.
Nice tech tip
Thks
hi
I have a Troy Bilt 21" self propelled mower 2 in1 Briggs & Stratton 650 series 190cc/650
The interlock switch one prong came off w/o me knowing about. Now I have bought a new and want to know which wire goes where ( This interlock is on the R side of the motor if you are facing the front of the mower) Thanks for your help.
Hey!! Where's the 'SUBSCRIBE ' button!?
Nice, thank you and good to see you wearing nitrile gloves.
Love the tech tip Jeff....and the entire video. I am going to try this myself.
Well done, thank you for the excellent guide!
Jeff, thank you for the video. Where do I buy the repair kit for my Toro 7.0 190cc Briggs and Stratton; and what is the part number? I went to the manufacturer's site and could not locate a repair kit
TOOL!!!
Hahahah!
GOOD KNOWLEDGE , THANK YOU MUCH . I'D TROY BILT TB-360 8.75
Good video.....I'd really like to see one where all the components are shown and explanation of what they do....the spring setup saved the day for me......and the groove on the little rubber seat was a saver.....the auto choke arm attachment would have been good to see.
I bought a Tecumseh carburetor tool Part # 670377 to repair a Tecumseh Series 11 Carburetor after watching one of your more recent videos. Great suggestion!
I presume that the Tecumseh carb tool will work on a Briggs & Stratton carburetor since the float seat looks identical to the Tecumseh carb.
Are the float seats on the Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton carburetors the same?
It does not work as good on the briggs seat, they are a little different in siZe
Wow you know your stuff i have two Toro self starts lawnmower the carburetor is very clean i also rebuild both carburetor and both lawnmower won't starts also when i pull the starter rope it throw mist of gas out the carburetor and both lawnmower is fairly new and they both have the same carburetor as in your video here
retarded I know but I have been putting these carbs on old mowers an tillers for customers and they just love me
Nice vid. Be careful of the chicken feathers on the gloves when re assembling. Also a lot of these videos do not mention type of gas or oil to use for the novice.
You should be a teacher! I understood everything you said! May be I can bring my mower back to life! Thanks for posting.
thank you!
There's no gasket(not the round one) the shape of the carb that goes between the carb and the engine? somehow I thought there was.
yes there is it just stayed in place
@@JeffsLittleEngineService ah ok. I rebuilt my carb yesterday with the help of your video & some others. Now I have some gas leaking out through the bottom of the air filter housing. I checked the flout, needle & needle seat and everything looks ok.
Maybe I didn't put the little red seat down properly.
Can I take that back up and put it in again? I'm not sure if that'll tear it up or not
Add to your description "SPRING PLACEMENT"
Jeff thank you for the video, I repair mowers, more on the quick, cleaning out gas tanks and then carb cleaner and compressed air for the passages. The one thing I do different is rather than using wire I find torch tip cleaners with various sizes clear out the most stubborn deposits much easier. Also at same time I use the tips to clear the 3 passages and check flow to the bowl with carb cleaner to make sure the priming system should operate properly.
Excellent video tutorial! Thank so very much. I am going to try this and I hope there is not too much dirt on the fuel line and on the other components, thereby making it difficult to remove them and consequently breaking them...
May I suggest...what if you gave some links for some of the products on Amazon, (or where ever)? Might you make a small commission on that? I see ppl doing that here on YT. I found myself craning my neck trying to see the numbers on those packages, so I can order them.
Working on one just like this cleaned the carburetor out and mowed the yard - had to adjust the governor spring . It ran great , but after I parked it gas ran out of filter- going to replace the needle valve and seat - hopefully this'll fix the leaking problem . If there's anything else that you would do holler at me . Correction it is the primer style carburetor - not the Automatic style .
that should fix it!
muchas gracias Señor ,buenos vídeos Dios lo bendiga thks.
The best video for my needs on UA-cam! Good job! My only suggestion is to go over how the air vane works. Since I didn't understand how the air vain was mounted I thought that it had been accidentally disconnected somewhere else on the engine, so I had to search elsewhere on UA-cam for a video on air vains.
Thanks friend, good advice!
There are no other jets to clean, like the idle jet?
there are 2 or 3 very tiny holes next to each other on the inside of the carburetor throat. Usually dont get plugged but can
See what ethanol does to your carburetor , boys and girls?
Thank you sooo much I've been looking for a good video on the linkage on this engine and turns out I'm missing the little spring for the auto choke.
Excellent video! I'm going to go do mine now! Thanks for the good teaching and extra tech tips!
Is that self propelled lawnmower? Mine is…It’s hard to push front wheels I left it outside.. Do I oil the wheels or 10w40 it
Amazon seems to have Chinese knockoff carbs for $12 and B&S OEM carbs for about $35. At that low a price point, is it really worth trying to rebuild the carb vs. just replacing it?
I would not recommend an aftermarket carburetor.
classic old gas ,when gas gets old it leaves that heavy oil film behind fouling jets etc... burn the old gas off when storing for the winter .
I have this same engine that isn't working, where is the dang primer bulb? Did you already take it off before the video? I don't seem to have mine on there
It is an auto choke so there is no primer bulb
Jeff.......I watched whole Video...,,,was real good...... I have an automatic primer engine...........in a small snow removal unit........... & want to know......... are this engines ...similar ???........................has electric start............ motor starts.... but once touches snow......it dies.............hope U can guide me a little........Thnks ...Andres
Maybe? it depends on what kind of engine you have.(manufacturer) Thanks for the nice words friend.
I have the same setup. Replaced carburetor and still surges 🤔. These are usually pretty simple to fix
I have to do this process every mowing season on this exact motor 6.75, every season , The entire mowing season I have to do this process over and over and over with this mower. and it still doesn't act right it will run for about 3 min then stalls out , 3 mins then stalls out, let it cool , push it around for 3 mins or so stalls again, let it cool for about 30 mins. then mow for 3mins then stalls repeat process , every single time , every mowing season for the last three years ... horrible mower...BUT ! Great when it works ..
any suggestions other than to take it to the dump or buy a new mower or other obvious statements / comments ?
Replace the fuel line and clean the gas tank. I have seen sediment stuck inside fuel lines and the rubber lining falling apart inside also.
I have did this before , as suggested by the small engine repair shop , it still didn't work for very long it took about three mowing sessions and it was back doing the same thing again .This mower is only mowing my yard , my yard is less than 1 acre. also this mower is garage kept , and with this mower it takes all day to mow my yard .. lol .. I'm going to clean out the gas tank and replace the fuel lines again today.. my mowing season has started as of today... I'm excited to get started mowing and all the yard work , Believe it or not I look forward to mowing and the outside work in the yard.. Great video , I look forward to more of your videos, Cheers
Jeff , I took off the fuel lines , and the gas tank , , took them off that means no gas tank no fuel lines , no fuel can get to the engine of the mower . it would not run before , its running just fine without a fuel tank or fuel lines . started and kept running on the first pull ... and it's still outside running right now ... CRAZY! didn't do anything to it yet , I just wanted to crank it to push out any existing fuel that might be in the lines , It cranked right up and sounds great , still running even now while sending this message . I wish I could video this .. kinda freaky.. lol Cheers
HAHA!
why blow the gas tank out after reattaching the fuel line? Nive vid thanks!
I didn't rebuild the carb (I replaced it) but I did use this video so I knew how to disassemble the related parts. Thank you very much. Put the new carb and it started on the first pull :)
with all the gas he spilled over it how could it not? 😂
Hey Jeff you are the best fixer
thanks friend. thanks for watching
unquestionably, the best home repair video i've ever seen. thank you!!!!!
Wow, thanks! Glad it helped!
That was an excellent video. So clear and informative. Thank you. I think I can do mine now from watching your video. No skipped steps or anything to guess about. Where do you get the replacement parts?
Amazon or Ebay
why doesnt this have a fuel filter on it? i have to clean out that tiny little item almost every year. wouldnt putting a fuel filter on it help from getting debris in this device?
there is a screen filter inside the gas tank that doesn't work so good.... you can add an inline filter fairly easy. An old fuel line can start deteriorating too causing problems
great video. very clear. and great camera works
