Exactly, I literally just had a bit of a existential crisis trying to figure out what I was going to listen to next, then I decided to listen to this and I feel calm, almost like my thoughts reset.
ive noticed (even from just a few songs) that you make music that has both a set beat and odd notes at even more odd intervals-which ends out sounding pretty darn good if i do say so myself. the instruments you use are amazing in creating a general tone/aesthetic in your music, and even with my limited knowledge of music theory or composing a song this is great. thanks for another amazing song!!
I noticed this too. Especially with this song. Lots of REALLY awesome rhythms which completely avoid the time signature and use heck tons of off beats. I love the parts where he does this and uses the rhythms to also mess with your perception of the time signature, then returns you back to it smoothly. It's so cool!!
What I think is going on is that the gas section is laying a nice 4/4 groove and the melody is 5/4 and giving an off kilter groove, because the the two sections line up time wise fairly often. Or the song could just be in a syncopated weird 5/8 fuckery
i seem to remember a comment discussing the instruments used on this song somewhere but maybe im just imagining it... so i'll list what i hear in order, for practice and for curiousity 0:01 a very soft/muffled piano (reminds me of the koe no katachi soundtrack) 0:53 some synth that sounds really cool and reminds me of a honkytonk piano (plz if anyone knows the name of this sound i gotta know cus it sounds so cool) 1:04 unfiltered/bright piano 1:29 toms and hi-hat? idk drums :s 1:30 another synth similar to the first 1:47 "bwooow" i rlly dont know synths sm1 help +snare i think 1:56 a synth that looks like a scribble in my mind 2:03 bells and very cute ones at that i think the rest r returning instruments but i could be mistaken, anyway 10/10 song makes me very happy
i've had this loop for a while now and i gotta say i genuinely smile at 0:59 and 2:51 your music is such an inspiration for me man,, keep doing what your doing
I don't plan on getting into the music industry but if I do, this is what I want to become. You're my music idol Oliver, and probably for so many other people too. Never forget that we love you so much ♥️
Love this song as it really keeps to the theme of the name to vacillate wavering between actions the song always feels like it's indecisive not knowing what way to go but it powers through the ideas and at the ends settles for a wonderful culmination it's a story of how music is made you don't just poof up a master piece it's a matter of trying lots of ideas vacillating between ideas till you make something you are proud of
Im going to try and describe this song as im listening. this song is very indigo for the beginning, mostly blue colors with some hints of orange if that makes sense. Lots of happy little waves at the beginning, then we start to see some straight lines but still in some circular motions. When the beats come it, we see green and yellow bubbles, but not full bubbles, they're mostly connected. They're alot of bounce and the rings bells are very sharp but happy, glowing yellow. There's alot of shapes and colors in this song and its so beautiful, there's some string shapes and near the end middle part smells like raspberries. There's alot of orange and yellow jot near the end, very bouncy and curvy. Near the end for the static is goes purple and pixel like. Your music is truly a work of art :)
You literally have no idea how much I love your music man something about it bops and you deserve so much more recognition ‘cause I always listen to this while I’m working it just goes so hard 🕺💃
I heard this song through the Joel G website and it was so comforting to me and I can't tell why. It just makes me really happy and I appreciate this song so much
Such delightful syncopation, and I love how the chords and melody are unique and interesting but still catchy! The variety of sounds you used is also pretty cool. I keep returning to this song. :)
I was bindging your stuff after watching ENA and thinking of mapping some songs for Beat Saber and maybe uploading them to UA-cam. Was verrrry pleasantly surprised to see this video
i've had this map for a while now and only JUST noticed this video exists i actually just searched "oliver buckland" in beatsaver because i wanted to see if any maps existed, and this was the only one
I discovered this song today and have found myself listening to it several times over. I am really struggling to find the words to describe how it makes me feel. Part of me feelings like I listen to it over and over because I want to try and find the words to describe it, the other part of me just isnt satisfied because it doesnt seem to resolve. It also seems like no matter how much I listen to it, I cant remember any of it. It is just so unique and wild. I love it. I just really want a backstory behind the image that comes with it.
A friend of mine made the art as I was starting this piece. Their artwork felt like a lot of different things at once in a coherent image, and I decided to try and write something that had lots of disparate ideas meshing together in one piece that was neither one thing, nor the other, vacillating between ideas!
@@OliverBuckland I never expected to get an answer, but that’s pretty crazy. Keep up the good work, I’ve listened to a lot of your pieces and each one is so unique
This music feels nice. It’s a strange way to describe it, but I’m autistic and in a way I feel music rather than listen. It it very smooth. Like a new blanket from the local home store. Or when you are on a boat on a small lake and the boat goes whoosh.., very smoothly. I like it!! I really like it and it will be going onto my playlist... :D
I absolutely love the ragtimey sounds that some of your songs have, I don’t care that I’m two years late because this is amazing. Keep making what you’re making. (Also I like how the first minute of the song makes me feel like I’m listening through someone’s wall, it’s kind of funny)

this song makes me feel out of place. I'm in a royal hall. I'm sitting, no standing, no walking away. People glance. people glare. one or 2 even stare, likely children. Why am I here but to be fondled by eyes in my pajama pants in a room full of grace and endless trance
Overjoyed to have my map featured here! :D
Good job!!
I can't thank you enough for making it!

Yeah, Oliver’s a legend. I can see why his music was picked for ENA.

0:53 is a sine and triangle wave, w/ some reverb
2:03, the bell sounds are crotales! (A bit like a bell and a cymbal had a baby)
Thanks for listening!
