Mazdaspeed 3 - Clutch Master Cylinder & Pedal Assembly Replacement
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 чер 2024
- In this video we replace the clutch pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder in the Mazdaspeed 3. I noticed that the clutch pedal would intermittently become soft and barely be able to disengage the clutch disc from the flywheel, so we tried bleeding the hydraulic clutch circuit of any potential air on two separate occasions, but found that the issue would soon return. We decided to give the clutch pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder a try in hopes that it would resolve the issue, and luckily it did! We filmed this repair back in March 2022, and thankfully the issue has not returned. Enjoy the video! Please like, share, and subscribe :)

Keep making Content! I've been rewatching everything as I build my ms3
Glad you guys are back at it!
"wheels? It's got wheels"? 😂 Your comedy was not lost, well done.
So happy for this video! I've been rewatching every video! I have to take a break from my day to watch this one
Always fun watching u.keepbthe mazdaspeed 3 content coming.and thanks for the good support you show forbthis platform.love from south africa
Ehhh, glad to see you guys back
Thanks for the video and good you showed the different between the old and new that’s what was what I was more concerned about unfortunately still yours was grabbing and mine is to the floor I’m concerned but I do see leaking from the wheel well so hope this is the issue thanks
Hey man thank you so much for this just replaced my master cylinder and bled clutch line but pedal still will fail to disengage I will try this as my clutch was perfect until cold air came i knew there was a problem with actual pedal but this just proves to me in my mind it’s this
Hey man you definitely want to be sure there isn't any air in the system. If you've replaced the master cylinder already, you can also check for cracks in the pedal assembly frame (I remember reading about someone having that issue). Also there's a chance that the slave cylinder might have an issue internally, but from what I've read those tend to leak when they have an issue.
My pedal will stick to the floor should I pretty much do the same for that problem, just replace the slave master and pedal assembly?@@WannabeTuners
@@xxxstindo9531 I would probably verify no fluid leaks throughout the entire system and check the slave cylinder as well as a first step ;)
@@WannabeTuners thank you have had this Mazda for a couple years and haven't been able to get it fixed but ill try looking for leaks
You guys do great content. Missed the videos! Keep them coming. Wish you guys were in NYC… lol!
Thanks man! How are things going in NYC?
@@WannabeTuners It’s going. We just need more Mazdaspeed Technicians here… Lol! We do follow your content though. Throughout the Mazdaspeed community.
Come to think of it both the bl and bk they share a lot of similar parts and design well interior-wise
like akways, thanks for more videos! :D regards from mexico
Thanks brother, cheers!
Hell yeaaaa!!!!
I’ve been waiting for a new video from you! I’m glad your speed is still running healthy, keep up the content dude
Thanks man!
missed you stud
Hahaha thanks brotha
Great video and explanation of what you're doing. My clutch assembly plate broke. Can the clutch assembly be removed without taking out the master cylinder?
Thanks brother, It might be possible but it's hard to say, because the master cylinder has to be twisted/rotated for it to unlock from the pedal assembly so the lines on the front would have to be disconnected, and if you leave the master cylinder in place it might be get in the way of the removal of the pedal assembly. It might be possible if you're looking to avoid having to bleed the air out of the hydraulic clutch circuit. A new clutch pedal assembly often comes with a new master cylinder installed if ordering from the dealer anyway so I'd say it's better to just replace both while you're in there :)
Great video! do you happen to have the link or website where you bought the clutch pedal from? They are hard to find and the ones I have found are expensive! Please if can let me know that would be great!
Thanks man! I ordered direct from the local dealership
This job is such a pain in the ass, struggling to get the top bolt off
Yeah it definitely is a bit tricky
Good
I’m going through bleeding my clutch on my ms3 because it got harder to shift and I was told it just needs bleed
Hey mate was your intermittent clutch issue mostly around WOT pulls?
I've noticed my clutch gets soft only after WOT or hard acceleration.
Hard to say really. I think I did notice it get soft a few times after pulling hard. But I've also had it work fine, then after parking the car for a few days, I would go out to start it, and find that it was soft again. It was so intermittent, and there were no signs of leakage at the slave cylinder or anywhere in the hydraulic circuit, which led me to believe that the master cylinder had an internal issue. Luckily the issue has not returned, so I guess like many other moving parts, they eventually wear out.
Ok, so to make that turbo spool a little sooner just enrich the target AFRs a bit (like 11.2 or so), and also give it like 35 degrees of VVT up to like 3500rpm (the mechanical limit of the factory VVT is 36-38 degrees). Last that you can go back to your normal target AFRs, 11.5-11.7 or whatever you have them set at, and of course drop the VVT advance once you approach 5000-5500rpm (some people are at 0 at 5k, some others like to be at 0 only at 5500 on laggy turbos).
Thanks a lot for these tips! I'm going to try to incorporate this some more into my tuning. Hopefully a little more VVT in the lower load regions above 4500 will help with re-spool in between shifts.
Let's GOOOO
I was having the same problem on my '13 Speed 3 and decided to replace the master cylinder, and slave cylinder. After I finally got the pedal assy out, I realized the bracket was cracked which was allowing the pedal assy to flex. Where did you order your pedal assy from? I welded mine for now...
Haha nice. I ordered from my local Mazda dealership.
Not looking forward to doing this but it’s an ease of mind knowing my clutch might be okay 😂
Why do u have a nice clutch installed?
I have an ACT clutch kit but yesterday morning the pedal started doing exactly this same thing! I’m in Alberta I thought mabye it was the weather but it hasn’t even been cold nor has it snowed. It’s parked now anyways. I might try and bleed it and see if that works first?
@@stonecoldstunner12 I tried bleeding mine twice and still had the issue. Only when I replaced the master cylinder did it completely solve the issue ;)
Same here it will be stiff and after a good pull it’ll get real soft like the gas pedal same engagement points though
Yeah it was very soft and would sometimes go back to normal after a bit of driving. Ever since replacing the master cylinder, the issue has not come back :)
My clutch pedal assembly cracked and had to weld it. The clutch pedal assembly was impossible for me to find and damn expensive. Mind me asking how much$ and do you have a link?
Hey man I can't remember how much I paid but I bought it straight from my local dealership
Hey man. Do you know if it’s the same part for the gen 2? If so do you have a part number for the assembly
Hey man idk tbh. I would contact the parts department at your local Mazda dealership. Just give them your VIN number and they will be able to get the right one for your car ;)
So when you kept the pedal pressed for 5 seconds, did your gear shift smoothly? (before changing it) my Mazda 3 passes easily when I hold down the pedal for 5 seconds. otherwise it will be forced to pass. Could the problem be in the upper center?
For me the pedal just suddenly felt very soft, and the clutch would still disengage, but only at the very bottom of it's travel. So I was still able to shift, but not very well.
Why did you skip the part showing how to get the clutch master cylinder lines off???? I can't get the hose off the one with the blue button and I'm afraid I'm going to break something!
Were did you buy the parts? Thank you in advance!
All parts were bought from my local Mazda dealership
I lost my mazdaspeed 3 clutch pressure. Had the clutch replaced with new master and slave cylinder and all new lines. Still no clutch. Would a leak in the brake lines make me lose clutch pressure? 2 mechanics have no clue why no pressure. I even had the trans pulled again by a new mechanic to check out the clutch job. It was good. Slave and master was replaced with dealer parts twice. What could be the problem ? I can build a little pressure for a second but it goes away. No leaks that I can see
Oh and the clutch that I had replaced was still perfect. So I didn't even need a new clutch. 4k and I still have no clutch
@@whocares5188 Have u tried bleeding the clutch circuit of air? Keep in mind that the clutch circuit takes fluid from the brake fluid reservoir, so u have to make sure it stays full as u bleed it.
@@WannabeTuners I was looking at the master cylinder. Can you answer this. Should I be able to blow through the master on both holes when it's fully extended out? Bc I can. It's not building pressure bc the fluid is going back in the resivor huh?
Can I remove my pedal assembly without taking the master cylinder out? The cylinder is fine it’s just the pedal assy that cracked in half
I don't know because u will still need to twist the master cylinder to disconnect it from the pedal assembly, so there's a good chance the lines that go to the master cylinder will need to be disconnected
@@WannabeTuners gotcha, thank you for responding!!!
@@zuckmabaulz_ No problem dude!
With that spongy peddle was it hard to shift into gears?
No because it was still able to disengage the clutch, but only at the very bottom of the pedal travel
@@WannabeTuners ah ok ✅
I’m having issues with mine after replacing the engine. I did remove the brake reservoir and I thought it would just need to bleed out but I’m having issues getting into gear at a dead stop
How long before the soft pedal returned
After bleeding the clutch circuit the first time, it felt fine for a drive cycle, but the next morning it was soft again. My guess is that the piston inside the clutch master cylinder fails. I'd actually be curious to dismantle it to maybe see if there are signs of wear ;)
where did you get that piece?
The clutch pedal assembly and master cylinder I bought directly from my local dealership
why did you gave up on wmi?
I decided to switch to 6th port aux fuel for better reliability and tuneability, but feel I should have just done 8th port instead for better fuel distribution between cylinders lol. But so far at my power levels 6th port has been working flawlessly as I'm able dial in more fuel very accurately using the Split Second controller :)
Where'd your tuning videos go ?
I decided that I'm going to make one big video that covers everything that I've learned when it comes to tuning this car :)
Can't wait 👏
@@j.park17 Are you interested in learning to tune your own car?
@@WannabeTuners Yup, I work on cars for a living but never truly understood the ins and out of tuning. Any help would be appreciated brotha
@@j.park17 I think what I will share will be very interesting to u then. I honestly find it super rewarding being able to dial this car in.
What is the parts number
I viewed this.
Beauty, thanks for stopping by haha
Where’s the link for the clutch pedal
Which link?
@@WannabeTuners for the clutch pedal assembly
@@alancollazo3423 I just ordered direct from a local Mazda dealership
How much would it cost to have a mechanic do this about? How many hours?
Hard to say as some shops may have varying door rates and charge varying hours for this job. If I had to guess, I'd say around 5-6 hours of labor.
@@WannabeTuners thanks! Was looking for a ball park. Gotta start doing this myself soon lol. This car will be the end of me otherwise.
@zeezlebops I hear u. Just gotta take your time, and have the right tools ;)

@@mituc That's awesome, I've spent too much money to just get rid of it lol

close your eyes lol
😳That looks like a pain in the butt to do!😡
It honestly wasn't the most rewarding job, but was definitely the solution lol
I have the inverse of this issue my clutch is super stiff. Any idea what could cause this. It’s like an on off clutch no travel just engaged or disengaged
My guess would be something seizing up. Maybe the release bearing, master cylinder, slave cylinder, or something within the clutch assembly. Is it making any odd noises when engaging and disengaging the clutch?
@@WannabeTuners Clutch and Flywheel were recently replaced. Some squealing when you are right at the clutch point. It was a LUK clutch and new OEM flywheel that went in. Slave is a NAPA part I just ordered a new OEM slave to see if that fixes it.
@@thebigscooze If there is a squealing at the point of engagement, I wonder if maybe it's something to do with the release bearing.
@@WannabeTuners I’ll tell my mechanic to check that out obviously trying to not drop the trans if we don’t have to lol thanks for the reply!
@@thebigscooze Sounds good man, let me know how it goes :)
