Next up is Daikon Radish....the tastiest Microgreen!: ua-cam.com/video/Yo-xyLBcBzo/v-deo.html
Man you are the only one that I even let the commercials run to hopefully help out... I just watch the hockey game and let the commercials run. Hopefully it helps a little. Thanks for all the knowledge.
THANKS so much man! Every little bit helps, of course! super appreciate it man! :-)
Thank you! This is the best instructions I have watched.
another great tutorial! THANKS!
I love pea micro greens can’t wait to see more in this series thank you
Awesome Rebecca! Its amazing how bountiful they are....especially when you multi-crop them!
My speckled peas are growing. I am very excited. I also have a potato growing in a pot. I can see the green coming threw the soil.
Right on angela, you're turning into a green thumb! :-)
Thank you for the recaps!! Its great as a reminder and not needing to rewind!!
Cheers johanna, appreciate that! The recap also let's me know if I forgot anything, because when I'm making the video, I actually script out the recaps first! :-)
Ugh! Hallelujah, finally!! A micro green video I know will be helpful and reliable. (I didn’t even watch it yet) I have tried a few times somewhat unsuccessfully so I just gave up on them. There are so many different videos and sources with conflicting information it’s hard to know what’s right. Use soil or not, (soil worked best but was a sparse stand of greens) grow on a paper towel (terrible outcome)or grow in the container with holes. (They just grew a few roots and molded-another fail). Geeze! I am sure there are more than one way to do these but when you’re brand new at it it gets confusing. So thank you thank you thank you 😊
Yes Mary, 100% you CAN be successful. With greens, I ALWAYS grow in soil because that's where they will pull the nutrition from the last 4-5 days making these guys a powerhouse food. Using just water or paper towel is good for SPROUTS, which are just 5-day crops. So the key is 1) the initial soak 2) getting the seeds to successfully root in the soil and 3) watch them grow. It happens fast..its a 14-day crop. You got this!
Great vid! I just started growing Dun pea microgreens a couple months ago. They're delicious stir-fried with olive oil, chopped garlic and hot peppers.
Oh, very cool Chris...I must try those! Same method as basic Microgreens?
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Yes, soaking the seeds, etc. Looking forward to your next video!
@@ChrisJCarter Right on man, just finishing up the Daikon Radish one now...even easier than the peas!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Nice...I'll have to try growing those next!
I like stacking the containers on top of eachother for weight until the root system is established. I then place them in a cabinet for max humidity and warmth
Definitely Cindy....especially for Sunflowers. :-)
I think you should follow up with some recipes 😋
I definitely should diane.....considering we eat them on everything! Ha ha!
Peas don't need soil . Use 2 containers with holes made in second container. I use Bootstrap trays.
Sunflower does need soil to shed their seed hulls.
Thank you for sharing...love this!
Hey, thanks for watching. Appreciate it! :-)
Tks for sharing this great tip with us. Great information 🌻
Cheers, thanks for watching!
Fantastic, now I know what I was doing wrong! Thank you!
Thanks for watching Laura! :-)
Love your info !
Thanks! :-)
Damn impressive! Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much, appreciate the support. :-)
great video, thanx... do u plant broccoli sprouts the same way.?
Maybe I’ll try these next year. Great step by step guide.
Thanks Avril. Remember these are an indoor 365 day/year crop.....there's no "season" for microgreens!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms oh ok that’s now possible this year.
@@tassiegirl1991 ANY day of the year. They are a 2-week indoor crop. It doesn't matter when you grow them....there is no season for microgreens! :-)
What do you do with the bottom part after finish harvesting twice?composting ?
Hi haydeh, Peas can regrow 1-2 more crops...after that, I just compost the root ball and start over. Amazing really how fast it all goes!
Since I live in an RV, I thought you mentioned that it's not good to have regular dirt inside? How about growing microgreens?
@@marykrigbaum9021 always use sterilized potting mix with microgreens
(So I’m munching on a sandwich that includes snipped up pea greens as I start watching this video.😉) I buy them from a friend who started a micro greens business last year. The peas are the best keepers in the fridge & taste good in virtually everything! Any suggestions on potting soil brands?
You're so right Helen, the Peas do last the longest! Tell your friend I wish them the best, such an exciting business to be in! For soil, the best we have here in Canada is Sea Soil. OMRI certified and NEVER any weeds in it. Just perfect every time.
This is super late but how long do you put the wet paper towels on for
What do you do with the plant after the harvest?
Hey Joe, Peas can regrow 1-2 more crops...after that, I just compost the root ball and start over. Amazing really how fast it all goes!
I've had pea micro greens before; but, I think my favorite is sunflower micro greens. In 2019, when the farmers market was normal, I could get my fill of micro greens. One vendor routinely sold packaged micro greens for 2/$5. The radish micro greens that I bought were really spicy; so, I bought those only once.
What would you do differently if you wanted to grow sunflower micro greens?
LOVE the radishes Donna....but I do love my spice, ha ha! Sunflowers are soooo good. Only difference is they need weight on top of them until about Day 7 or 8. Helps with uniform growth and the shell removal. Also, I soak them for a little less time....18-24 hours instead.
Show us another microgreen video
Yup, lots more coming. I grow about 9 different Microgreens. Here's my Wheatgrass one from last week: ua-cam.com/video/FZ5W7Qrdh0Y/v-deo.html
What do you do with these microgreens once you harvest them? Like how do you prepare them for eating? Do you eat them raw on their own? Make them into a salad? Cook them in some way? I've never prepared these as food and am very curious!
Hey Matty, great question. The basic answer is...EVERYTHING! Raw, cooked, sauteed......all of the above. Think of it as a replacement for spinach, lettuce, baby greens, etc. So you can have them in wraps, sandwhiches, salads even on pizza or in pastas. Its limitless!
Once the sprout could I transplant them into another container outdoors?
Hey Selina, for sure you could. At that point though, you're not growing Microgreens anymore, you're growing the full plant.
Thank you!
@@selinajanie cheers Selina
How would you eat/prepare these microgreens? I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate more greens into my diet.
Hey Jim. The basic answer is...EVERYTHING! Raw, cooked, sauteed, juiced into smoothies......all of the above. Think of it as a replacement for spinach, lettuce, baby greens, etc. So you can have them in wraps, sandwhiches, salads even on pizza or in pastas. Its limitless!
My experience with radish greens is that they are "hairy" and I can't get past that texture so I don't eat them....but love the "baby" radishes. Is their a variety that has a smooth leaf?
Yessssssssssssss Diana! Same! The Daikon Radish are completely smooth! Spicy, but not a single hair on them....even when grown quite large! :-)
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I'm having trouble finding Daikon seeds...they either don't have them or they're sold out. I'll definitely be on the hunt now...thank you very much for responding!!
@@ut2467dfg2467ut There are other radish varieties...and at this young age are basically the same. Daikon seems to be the most popular for some reason though.
HELP! Non-native speaker here. What does "Stagger your crops every 5 days mean??" I don't know what staggering is.
I really want to start growing this.
