I just love how you keep explaining and talking to yourself all through the video - you seem very self entertained (in the best way) which makes watching you great fun! Amazing painting of course :)
I really love watching your painting's. Not sure if anyone has ever told you this i haven't read all your comments but your style and technique i think is just as good as the long time great Bob Ross. Best wishes to your painting career.
Thank you very much for this! I'm about to start my first oil painting (I've always done acrylics) and your tips have already made me aware of quite a few misconceptions that I had. Lovely work!
I just started oil painting (I'm nineteen). I did one time in TN while visiting my friends relatives, but I am really getting into it. Thank you for your helpful information!
Hi Michael, I like the way you use lesser amount of color and get those effects, mostly people use loads of colorss...It was an amazing experience to listen n see you paint...I hope I have so many clean brushes whenever I start painting :-)
i really enjoyed watching this. it has given me inspiration to actually start a painting. not only did you explain the best way to start, you also showed how to use a palette. i now wish it wasnt so late at night so i could actually start! thank you for your videos!
hello michael, i've just started with oil painting and your tutorials are a boon!! i;ve already subscribed to your youtube channel and will definitely learn a lot from it... u r just terrific!
@duieb I use a paper towel to wipe as much paint out of the brush as possible I use several of each brush so most of the time I do not need to clean them till I get through painting. Regards, Michael
@muhita16 yes it will take some of the oil from the paint as it thins it try this approach mix the turpentine with the linseed oil that makes a good medium. Regards, Michael
if you are using wooden handle brushes do not soak them, I have learned that liquids can cause the handles to start splitting, I just simply dip the bristles in thinner to clean them, any thinner, that is not ap non toxic, is not good for your hands or body, make sure you use a well ventilated area. wash hands good after cleaning brushes. hope this helps. :-)
Hi Michael, first of all i wanna thank you for posting all these videos, and very compliments to you for your painting! for the sky effect and others you always use a dry brush? or not?
@saranya178 no it will still do it I have canvas that is older by a few years, and the backside of the canvas has yellowed from the linseed oil. regards, Michael
well when you paint wet layers on top of wet layers sometimes you need a medium to thin with it's easier to paint on top of the wet layers when the paint is thin. also to do fine detail you need a thinning medium, drying mediums if you need something to dry quick so you can continue painting, Michael
@creativecolour Hey, this is awesome! Thanks so much!!! :) I have one question though- when i paint on good quality heavy paper, I still get yellow stains on the reverse because of the linseed oil. Will it help if i use some kind of acrylic primer to prepare the paper before painting?
@BaboonBaksideStudios I use about 4 of each brush I try to do my cleaning after I am finished most of the time if I need to clean my brush I will use a paper towel for a semi cleaning. Regards, Michael
Hello , Can you please share the material in details that i might need for this painting! Its amazing and i am new to painting world i would love to start with what you are teaching here 😊
Bob Ross lives in all of us. It is a pleasure to see someone who has a bit of Bob Ross' soul. I say you submit it to a local coble tv station and even go for PBS. They just might pick it up. Make a series of 12 painting and submit it. Hey one never knows!
michael can you get the kind of results you get using acrylics instead of oil paint, currently i am using "student acrylics" wondered what your opinion is.
@PrinceOF9Imagination Linseed oil is said to be the best oil painting. It is made from the flax seed crushing. The basic material is oil painting. However, linseed oil have not overcome the drawback is that oil will turn yellow, so the painting as much as possible to use restraint, not excessive. It can also varnish and turpentine mixed with oil color made with good performance liquid.
Thank you so mych for this masterpiece that you did in less than 30 minuits, i learned alot from you, i really want you to read my comment and to see how much i'm thankful to you for your teaching video's. thanks!! :)
Hello Michael, if I would like to use the same brush by simply wash them with water during the clean change for the drawing, can the oil paint mix with a wet brush?
Is it a brush issue or a health issue? I've been using it since Jan and my brushes seem fine. My CRI uses generic lard after each class to keep his brushes; he's had student brushes for two years. I looked online and say no carcinegentic factors involved, so I didn't know. (I don't have my container anymore, it's all in the bucket).
I'm new to oil painting and I keep hearing that you're to follow the "lean over fat". Or did I understand that wrong? I did a Rose tutorial and she thinned out her first layer with linseed oil then layered with less and less with each layer. Does that depend on what you are painting? Thank you for sharing your talent it's amazing to watch!
I just love how you keep explaining and talking to yourself all through the video - you seem very self entertained (in the best way) which makes watching you great fun! Amazing painting of course :)

Hey, this is awesome! Thanks so much!!! :) I have one question though- when i paint on good quality heavy paper, I still get yellow stains on the reverse because of the linseed oil. Will it help if i use some kind of acrylic primer to prepare the paper before painting?
I usually wipe it out with a paper towel or soft cloth, then wash them out after I finish.
@Ibeatyou23 What I would recommend is Fredrix Canvas Pads they are cheap and are very similar to a stretched canvas.
@BaboonBaksideStudios I use about 4 of each brush I try to do my cleaning after I am finished most of the time if I need to clean my brush I will use a paper towel for a semi cleaning.
Regards,
Michael
My first oil painting ... Thanks 我的第一副油画

I used some natural hair gesso brushes in this video, I use shipmate brushes now
Do you ever use other tools (other than brushes and a canvas of course)
Hi, When using turpentine to clean your brushes.. do you soak them in it? and also does turpentine damage your hands?
Do we wait the paint to dry before adding the highlight on the grass ?
Do you use preference to paint?
michael can you get the kind of results you get using acrylics instead of oil paint, currently i am using "student acrylics" wondered what your opinion is.

wow is it really this easy?
It's called Linseed Oil and it thins the oil paint. You can get it at most any craft or art store.

Hello Michael, if I would like to use the same brush by simply wash them with water during the clean change for the drawing, can the oil paint mix with a wet brush?
