Brexit A Delusional Decision, Says India’s Minister Hardeep Singh Puri

  • He’s a former Indian career diplomat who has served in the United Kingdom and has also been India’s permanent representative to the United Nation but Hardeep Singh Puri-now a minister in the Narendra Modi government-likes to describe himself as “somebody who has professionally studied the false narrative”. In an interview with SNI’s Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale, Puri, who was among the few people who had famously predicted that Donald Trump would become the 45th President of the United States, cites his reasons for doing so in the face of a deluge of opinion polls predicting Hillary Clinton’s win. Puri, whose second book “Delusional Politics” was launched recently, also delves into history to cite how Adolf Hitler goofed up big time when he was so close to winning the Second World War. The minister also says multilateralism is going through an existential crisis at the United Nations, and that Brexit was a decision Britain could have done without.

@Tony S I vist that country and I can tell you categorically, that the population boom can never allow any progress and the elite will remain landholders, businesses, ex royals, industrialist etc. (only 5% or less). The country needs communism to eradicate inequality, no other way. Look at China and see their progress, though still an average Chinese is poor. But their infrastructure allows some relief, some equality, some solace etc.

"Let us contemplate for a moment that romantic nation [Ireland]. I would like the reader to, believe with me that it is not the blood that the Irishmen have taken which has given them what appears to be their liberty. But it is the gallons of blood they have willingly given themselves. It is not the fear of losing more lives that has compelled a reluctant offer from England, but it is the shame of any further imposition of agony upon a people that loves its liberty above everything else. It is the magnitude of the Irish sacrifice which has been the deciding factor . . . And England has yielded when she is able no longer to bear the sight of blood pouring out of thousands of Irish arteries" - Collected Works of Gandhi, 15/ 12/1 921 (Volume XXII, p 17).
Now Ireland has an Indian leader intimately familiar with the blood of the Irish and the english are still trying to control our destiny. Ireland will be a member of only one union the European one not the genocidal xenophobic racist cancer imploding next door.

Ireland and the rest of Europe must stay in the EU. I hope the world roots for globalization despite the hiccoughs it is going through right now. I hope the whole world gets together to solve the collective problems that face humankind.

Mr Puri did not study European history well. Hitler’s decision to go to Russia was not delusional, it was quite pragmatic. German army was fueled by oil from Venezuela and Germans expected Churchill at some point to reneg on the 1940 agreement on not interfering with each other’s oil supplies. So German army went after oil in Caspian Sea. Unfortunately for German army Russian winter stepped in.

    • @f1aziz
      @f1aziz 5 років тому

      I agree with you.
Germans never thought of occupying the whole of Soviet Union. They only wanted to bring the Soviet leadership to the table so that they could force them to an agreement favorable to the Germans, just like the Vichy France. Soviets on the other hand, despite taking gigantic losses in men and materials never came to the table, and then in came the winters and we know what happened afterward.
This minister saying Hitler invaded Soviet Union due to drugs is just asinine. Decisions like these are backed up by years of planning and feasibility studies done by multitude of departments etc.

@@thephidias Rather, given the quick defeats of two military powers in Poland and France and Red Army's poor condition with Stalin's purges, they were confident of bringing the Soviets to the table before the winter sets in. German Army ravaged the Red Army in the eastern European theater as per their plans but the Soviets kept on fighting. A lot of historians believe Soviets would have collapsed or might not have put up as much resistance as they did if Allied military and material support wasn't there.

@@thephidias Given their quick victories and weaknesses in the Red Army they might have overestimated their capacity to wage such a large scale operation with overstretched supply lines, but Germany was already teetering due to British Naval blockade, the oil production in the Eastern Europe was the only fighting chance to acquire much needed fuel for German military and industry.
Nobody thought Germany could put down an old military superpower like France as quickly as they did too. British military was awestruck by the scale and speed of the whole operation in France. German operation in France in WW2 is still studied in various military academies.
It's only hubris if you lose, if you pull it off would have been a genius move.

Who, in their right mind would pay any attention to India and Indians, one of the most backward and primitive peoples and places on Earth?
A nation so backward - and stupid - it allowed itself to be taken over by a tiny island people of less than one fiftieth of its size AND six months sailing time away.
Even today, the GDP of India is only about the same as the UKs, even though it’s population is twenty times greater. To those who don’t quite understand what that means, it means the average person living in Britain earns twenty times more than the average person living in India.
And Indians still blame the events of a many, many years ago for their backwardness now. Ignoring the fact that most of the excuses are insane. For example when a foreign country invests in Britain we know that makes us richer, but when the British build railways in India it’s “stealing”.
Sort your own problems out - you with your average intelligence quotient of 85 - and shut up.
Just think. Germany returned to being a rich and prosperous country in just ten years after being completely destroyed and occupied in World War Two.

dre. No one says that. The British went to India to make money. But they began to realise that Indian culture could be very cruel and felt obliged to stop the worst of it.
Human nature makes it very difficult for one person to acknowledge the debt they owe to another. The Chinese have a saying which I can’t remember exactly but (in translation obviously) goes something like “Why do you hate me? I have never been kind to you.”
The British bought civilisation to India, though I notice some Indian leaders would rather say (through gritted teeth) the British brought modernity to India. You were civilised but not modern!! Clever.
