- Im sooo excited for the animated vox machina next year so I made this. Episode 25 crimson diplomacy. My fan animatic for Vox Machina critical role! hope you all like it. Spoilers? violent? maybe a lil.
The moment everyone realized that No Mercy Percy.... wasnt exactly a GOOD thing.
Ohhhh yas. But verrrrrry fun to draw.
Then No mercy Percy punched holes through godlings
“Chaotic Neutral everybody”
Mike even a good man can do evil things.
David Mobeck oh I know, I should clarify it’s a callback to how Liam constantly brought this moment up as an example as to how Percy’s alignment never changed but Vex’s did.
Actually this is closer to neutral evil. He doesn’t care that the boy is poor. All he needs is information and will do extreme acts in order to obtain said information.
Oh I'd say chaotic evil in that moment.
People are so afraid to give their characters an evil alignment. Percy seems neutral evil to me many times and that's not a problem
I read it somewhere before, but Percy most likely would have turned out to be a villain in the end if he hadn't meet Vox Machina.
😱 I can see it. So scary! I'm so glad percy became a part of vox machina i love them so much
That and maybe more if it wasn't for Vex.
Honestly it was still touch and go at some points even then
@@C00kiesAplenty Yeah, I mean let's be honest; he's basically a fiend-pact warlock.
keep in mind this is the same man who made seashell crowns for everyone just months later.
Percy be chaotic Adorable
"Don't let them kill me, sir!"
"They won't...because I will kill you first."
No Mercy Percy!
😁 bone chilling yassss
That line was so chilling...
The emotion of Percy is just so raw you can feel his pain and anger and loss when saying his family's names.
You captured the scene perfectly.
Thanks :)
He's almost begging/praying "someone, anyone. Let there have been at least one other survivor besides myself"
And he doesnt even mentioned cassandra because shes already dead in his backstory; having been hit with arrows just before percy fully got away.
"I wanna walk over to the carriage driver"
Me who just watched the show: OH NO
lol "OHHH MYYY"
I love that No Mercy Percy has a visual representation using the mask in the show.
The mask design is so on point. ~
@@kiriosity3736 Oh yeah, the Plague Doctor look fits especially with how Percival is when he goes No Mercy mode...
I never realized before just how innocent the driver actually was.
Moses Fox right! Felt so bad for him.
The driver was obviously also a victim. I was so pissed at Percy here for shooting off his hand. It gets worse when the driver tells the party what he's been through.... At least Percy got away. This boy had been suffering under the Briarwoods for years. Percy's loss is NOT greater than the loss everyone else in that town suffered.
Hindsight is 20/20
@@xxliew Yes if someone murders your entire family and you find someone who works for the murderers and you have absolutely no legal ramifications for anything you do to that person I'm sure you would act in a perfectly reasonable matter.
Matt really knows how to do the voice of a man fearing for his life.
talent pure talent
This one isn’t as good as the poor servant to Daxio that grog and scanlan were doing good cop bad cop to. “Please I’ve just met a girl” was so priceless
The chills I get from hearing Percy go down the list of names and the more I fear for the guy hes holding a gun too
That part was probably my fave. Makes my heart race everytime I listened to it.
Percival de Rolo 🤝Matilda Bradbury
Getting absolutely f*cked over by the Briarwoods
I believe it was Vex who will go on to say they've been fighting Delilah for a long time. Excellent villain, Matt.
There's something about the very low-key way that Percy asks: "what do you know?" Taliesin is so damn scary.
Goddamn this scene hits hard af
No matter how many times I watch that part, no matter how many times I hear him ask for any info regarding his family members, Percy's quiver and the sheer, cold fury and loss and everything in his voice just makes that whole scene that much more epic. Also No Mercy Percy is a scary motherfucker, but he's also tragic and sympathetic in this whole arc. Thank you for this animated glimpse of what we, the Critter community, has to look forward to when The Legend of Vox Machina begins!
csgamer89 aww thanks. This was easily my fave part of this arc. I’m beyond excited to see it turned into a real show!
@@kiriosity3736 Also his "SYLAS!" roar before he starts taking shots, all but blasting the vampire dick's arm off at the elbow down will always hold a special place in my little black heart. :P And heh, you're not the only one Bekah. :D
Sympathetic but at his core Percy is a terrible fucking person that is barely kept in check by his friends but hides behind a charismatic mask.
Disappointed they cut Percy’s list of relatives, but I also wanna note how different everyone’s voices are in character here than how they were in both Campaign 2 and The Legend of Vox Machina. Shows how far they’ve come from their humble beginnings. Also love the subtle hint from Delilah to Percy about Cassandra being alive, it’s so evil that she can hold that secret over his head while knowing the rest of his family is for sure dead.
I loved that little moment when, with a smile on her face hits Percy right where it hurts. gave me chills.
I would attribute their voice change more to how they increasing took it more seriously and also with the animated series they have time to get it right. They were already successful voice actors years before this. The "humble beginnings" would more so be them turning a game they played as a friend group into a business accumulating millions.
First time I was legitimately scared of Percy
Same, also the moment I decided this was my new fave thing.
When I first witnessed this side of Percy I got chills and was terrified for what he was going to do.
Percy is honestly my favorite character, and I think was what got me so invested in the first episodes when they were still trying to find their footing playing Live
I forget just how terrifying percy can be. This animation really helps bring it out and is why I started watching campaign 1.
thanks! As much as I adore camp. 2 camp. 1 is what got me hooked. I just love it so much.
Dear God. If this scene is this awesome in just an animatic, imagine how awesome it'll be in the official Amazon Prime show.
aww thanks :D im beyond excited for the show. so close yet so far!
@@kiriosity3736 I saw reports of it coming out sometime later this year, so we're just going to have to hold out for a few months.
I think that some fans are looking at this slightly wrong. The advantage of the live show is the raw, impromptu nature of moments like these. Percy’s little stumble in the middle, as if he’s so unhinged that he can’t speak properly is incredibly potent.
By contrast, the advantage of the animated series is that the can take a top down perspective and shift scenes around to suit a planned out narrative. Put foreshadowing in for moments that weren’t planned, move emotional scenes to a place where they might hit harder, etc.
Have some more faith in the cast. They aren’t blind to what makes the show so good, and they’re going to do everything they can to make this show as great as possible. Don’t cast judgment until the season is over.
Its that little stumble that gave it life. You could tell he was about to snap.
There’s also the context of how the Briarwoods escape which are different.
In the livestream, they were beaten soundly and were retreating, yet in #LOVM it’s quite certain that they were just toying with Vox Machina.
Also based on the writing, NO ONE knows what is Percy’s full name yet. So for non critters the next few episodes are going to be more enticing for them
They are the professionals when it comes to these things. Based on the time, effort, and costs required for making even a single episode. The story is what's most important. They cant include all the tiny little meaningful moments that we loved. The luxury of a game like dnd, being able to take your time. As much as I love and miss the little things that they had to cut or move around. I fully understand why they did what they did, and agreed it had to be done. But I can understand people's feelings of missing out on some of those moments. Particularly those who were there for the original stream. I'm so excited to see where they take this story! 😆
No-Mercy-Percy is equally terrifying as he is awesome!
😊 yassss
Good lord Percy, the animatic makes this moment even scarier than the stream!
Ya I can't wait to see it animated. Im Soooo excited!
This arc is going to be an animated show and I am pumped as all hell!
SAME!!! Im just not patient enough and tried to make my own. Glad it turned out ok tho. So excited
This is one of my favorite moments of the campaign
Just seeing this side of Percy and how he breaks as he names the members of his family and when he realizes that all of them are gone he becomes cold and angry and I absolutely loved how Taliesin played him from this arch forward
Same. Talesin is just too good
The expressions in this are incredible! Especially that bit where it flashes to a younger Percy for a moment I got chills!!
woop! thanks thats my fave part too. Im glad it worked. :D
I never watched Campaign 1, so seeing this after the show is really neat.
Highly recommend.
Honestly the show sells the campaign short a lot. I was very dissapointed.
@@aevum6667 I don't doubt it. Though I'm digging how the show is doing it too. Some stuff feels clunky when I see it expanded over a 10 minute DM segment compared to a fast paced bit where you can understand what is happening as soon as you see it.
It's easy to forget how much of a dark moment this is for them. Kinda makes sense that they would soon receive a wake-up call. You don't just get to walk around playing judge and jury in a society with rules.
I never forget how dark and deep the first campaign was. It's my favorite story of all time.
Ya this scene, as well as VM s first steps into whitestone, were quite the wake up call. And soo very dark.
People be like "Percy is too cruel". Nah man. They've kidnapped his family he is exactly the level he realistically would be.
Agreed
Most of his family is dead because of these two, and he doesn't exactly know about the kidnapping part in regards to one of them. So yeah. Percy is out for fucking blood.
He's also semi.possessed by a devilish creature from hell.
As Percy lists of the names of his family members... hit right in the feels. ;__; Poor guy
Heather Atkins agreed
When Percy's sister turned on him and her name appeared on his gun, fucking goosebumps
"Please sir, they will kill me..."
*points gun at his head*
"No they won't."
DAAAAAAAAAAMN
TALESIN!!! he da best!!
They don't call him "No Mercy Percy" just for shits and giggles
Considering that Percy KNEW Desmond had information on what happened in Whitestone, he was determined, which is why he said he'd kill him first before Sylas and Delilah could. And besides his own anger at the loss of his family and home, we can imagine some of Percy's anger also is due to Orthrax's influence too. And Taliesin nailed it with the tone and feel he had with Percy's rage.
*glance at “The List” and sees “Carriage driver’s hand” on one of the barrels* ah so that explains it
Timestamp?
@@Loaderdani it didn’t happen in the video but I thought it’d be funny if that happened
Ugh. Seeing this scene in it's full brutality animated was amazing. No Mercy Percy is back, ya'll
Yasss!!!
I just wish it played out like this. I like cold Percy over angry Percy. Was still fun to see though.
I think both work in very different ways. Angry Percy makes sense as much as cold and calculating does.
@@arkisenn9895 I loved seeing Percy seething with uncontrolled anger in the animated series, but there is also something to a quiet cold and calculated rage, I hope we get to see that too.
@@kiriosity3736 I'm just sitting here giggling that UA-cam wants to translate your first reply into English for me.
There are times I thought vex fell behind the rest of the cast's individual powers. Then there are moments like this, where she comes in clutch. She shone like a bright burning star in most role-playing scenarios, honestly. I love this, and the no mercy Percy? priceless.
I love them all, they are all so fun and intresting. Making me laugh n cry, I cant get enough. I hope critical role continues on for a very long time. ☺
I never thought this was a vex thing it was always more of a ranger thing but that’s why revised became a thing
I wish I could have seen Vex with the new class variant beast master, Trinket would have been an unholy terror instead of a waste of action economy
The one De Rolo he forgot to mention, the one piece of knowledge he could have used when he returned home......it would have made a difference
Cassandra? Right? Ya that woulda been a very intresting turn of events at this moment.
Yes, but he didn't mention her because he thought he'd saw her die.
@@tuesdaynext7370 ah so thats what it was.
@@kiriosity3736 Yeah, she's the one from his opening narration. He saw her hit with 3 arrows and fall over unmoving. To be fair, the fact she's the one who survived would have been very hard to predict, considering. Matt was evasive at not confirming her death, but he's in the habit of using very "it would seem to be/it appears" language for ANYTHING the cast hasn't 100% confirmed for the most part, so that didn't mean much.
@@kagato23 it's such a deep story Matthew Mercer did such an amazing job 😆
Christ that’s way darker than I thought it would be
Ya. I see alot of the comical moments of CR but it had alot of moments like these as well.
I know this is supposed to be a really intense moment but I couldn't help but crack out when he said "delolo"
Complex names, lol. Quick say de Rollo 5x fast!
The design they went with for Silas and Delilah is really close to this, wow.
I think I based my style of the briarwoods off another individuals fan art of those characters. As long as they were hot 👌
Whoa, yeah, the similarities are uncanny. Have you called Phil Bourassa about royalties yet?
@@Strix182 🤣
@@kiriosity3736 Also almost reminds me of when Travis and Laura cosplayed as Silas and Delilah :)
@@BryonYoungblood yasss that was so good.
DUDE THAT SINGLE FRAME STAREDOWN YOU GAVE PERCY WAS AWESOME!
😊 thanks
There is just such a huge contrast between the first and second campaign in the tone of the characters. The first just felt more edgy and serious. They were never quite murder hobos but they were definitely a violent group. The second campaign just feels more lighthearted and "for fun".
We also hafta remember the campaign 2 is barely past the progress point that campaign 1 started streaming at. There was a lot of character development for VM, and there's still plenty of room for that same development with the Nein.
So, the campaign where one of the character saw her wife get killed and dealt with a demon that mind-controlled her, another killed his family, another was on the verge of releasing a giant sea monster, and yet another got drowned and revived as a goblin, that campaign is "more lighthearted and fun"?
yes, caleb´s entire backstory is the definition of "for fun".
Some big differences alright. I think mostly they all seemed to get more into the game as the years went on. And each new chacater has shown just how much each of them has fallen in love with the game. Escaping off to another world with your best friends. What more could you ask for?
@@ChevaliersEmeraude I mean sure, and those are incredibly high points, I think what they mean is that there are LOT more silly episodes in campaign 2
my congratulations the direction is amazing as well as the art
Thank you!
Can't wait for this arc to get animated so I can watch it and understand what happened. Feel bad for the carriage driver in this scene.
Ya. They end up helping the carriage driver later tho. Dosent completely make up for shooting his hand off.. but hey.... baby steps.
Oh percy percy have some mercy
Lol
Woah, such a stunning animatic.
On an unrelated note, sometimes I'm really surprised that Percy's alignment is actually Neutral Good.
Ya I think at times he teeters from one to the next but I'd like to think that percy himself believes that he is a bad person, and actively tries to be good for his friends as well as himself.
Yeah his alignment really switches around, but 90% of the time, he is in no way NG. I'd probably put him in the CN category, because of the inherent selfishness that dictates most of his actions, whether they are bad or good. But he definitely has moments, like here, where I would put him in the NE category. And then again, towards the end of the campaign, once he learned to outgrow his lust for revenge, he is definitely deserving of a NG alignment. But that's just what makes him so interesting. You can't ever really pin him down.
WERE SO CLOSE TO SEEING THIS ANIMATED
Yassssss!
Didn't live up
@@a.garcha199 i think it’s down to them only have inc so much runtime and so much backstory already there
@@matthiasnm4279 yh but it's literally the most successful kickstarter ever, and some scenes were just changed completely like the Percy scene, it wouldn't have taken up more time to do the scene in a different way.
No Mercy Percy is a BAMF

Christ, making amazing artwork is one thing, but your direction skills are on a whole different level.
thanks a bunch. I really love story boarding and im trying to get better at it. And it was a ton of fun to make. So the vote of confidence helps a ton. :D
@@kiriosity3736 Yes, the storyboarding is so great! So many little moments that take this to the next level!

@@gnhpinn I will try! 😆
damn all the shots are so good, totally reminiscent of an actual storyboard for a movie and not just a fan animatic.
Thanks ☺ I'm actually wanting to be a story board artist. Doing fan animatics for vox machina is just a fun past time.
The original scene gave me chills, but this sent shivers down my spine. You captured the moment beautifully, horrifically, viscerally. Fantastic job.
😆 woop! Thanks!
A superb piece of work.
I think my favorite little touch might be that last look Lady Briarwood gave while still kissing her husband and teleporting away. So evilly skincrawling
Yey I'm glad that didn't get missed. I liked that part too. 😊
This is more terrifying than the show somehow.
They enjoyed having all the time in the world to really dive deep into each chacater. Allowing them so much time to change and grow. I think that made a huge difference. But still love em both!
It's the calm.
In the show he is much more... unhinged, which can be frightening, but not nearly as frightening as calm calculated malice
@@nahlannentrela5376 Agreed, but I can imagine Percy's rage in the show is an influence from Orthax and the "deal" he made with Percy to help him get revenge against the Briarwoods for what they did to him and his family
That whole scene was intense as fuuuuck and led to a big wake up call for the party and how they had been behaving towards everyone. You captured the moment splendidly @ w @

@@kiriosity3736 I think UA-cam made a mistake and posted my comment on the wrong video to be quite honest. Someone else had made an animated intro with all of Vox Machina and it was really smooth. Don't get me wrong though I still love your work and the way you draw movement, especially running is amazing.
This is really well done for sure. I can only imagine what you could do doing when Percy sees Sylas and calls him out and then shoots him before he and Delilah try to bail for Whitestone.
thank you.
Seeing this after watching the third episode is just mmmmmmm tasty
Delicious.
As a moment of Percy's i kinda forgot about...NEUTRAL GOOD MY ASS! ...Still bad ass tho
Laser Face Percy was NEUTRAL GOOD? I always thought he was lawful evil.
Laser Face you see I thought he was at least true neutral
It helps that from his perception this was a man working for these hated people. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the cusp of alignment change, but he did back off, as opposed to, I don't know, chainsawing a fleeing opponent :P
how many can't wait to see this scene animated
Me me!! ✋
Me too!
oh you bet I'm counting the hours at this point.
I am breathless... The style, the emotion, the expressions... I'm just blown away...
The Werewolf of Wagga Wagga awwww thanks.
Remember people. It's only episode three. They could be saving the naming of the derolos' for a later episode.
Even if they don’t, the naming of the Derolos was too long and clunky for this scene. I think the way they did it was completely fine, and people are just biased against change. Which is okay! Everyone is. It’s in human nature.
@@calvinjohnson6242 I actually really liked it. The way they did it in the show made Percy seem significantly more unhinged. It kind of helps condense the character development in a way that still hits what it needs to.

This was really well done. The character designs and animation gave off a ton of emotion that paired with the compelling dialogue (especially between the 2 villains). The fact that I started to develop some sort of connection to the characters and story within only 4 minutes is just amazing. Well done.

I think they’re saving the naming lines for something else down the line. Don’t think they’d waste those lines on the show.
Hopefully. I really liked Talesins emotions when listing off those names. That was some good stuff.
Yeah, I could see them saving that line for one of the Briarwood’s lieutenants. Seems a bit of a waste to use them on Desmond. I get that the futility of Percy threatening Desmond, a simple carriage driver, is part of the tragedy of the line, but I still get the choice.
