Hehe, thanks, noticed that, was gonna look it up and see what she really did, it's good to know. Running a four minute mile is a good achievement, and fast walking a half mile in two minutes is awesome.
Calling BS even on that half mile correction. Tom Bosworth, a British Olympic race walker, clocked a 5:31.08 mile to set the new world record for the mile. Any man walking less than 2 minutes in a half mile is just not possible, let alone a woman in the 1940's. Jarmila Kratochvílová set the women's World record in 1983 for the 800 meters (right at 1/2 mile) at 1:53.28, *and that's running!* ...not walking. Don't know if you got your data from "The View" but it sounds like it.
My son's 3 great aunts were the Weaver sisters, Betty, Jean & JoAnne. I have a few things from their days playing for AAGPBL, for Fort Wayne, including a ball signed by the team!!!
The very first woman drafted to play in this league was a woman named Claire (Schillace) Donahoe. She played from 1943-1946. She gave it up to get married and pursue her education. She ended up with a Masters degree in physical education. She and her husband relocated to the Washington DC area where she became a physical education teacher at a junior high. One of her students became my wife. Ms. Donahoe passed away in 1999. My wife died a few months ago. They’re both in heaven now.
I'm a guy, and I played baseball when I was a kid. This movie came out when I was nine years old. I didn't start playing baseball until 94, and I didn't give it up until '01. I saw this movie after my playing days were over, and I couldn't help but be transported back to that old ball field while I was watching "A League Of Their Own." The late Penny Marshall did a great job of catching the splendor and pageantry of America's Favorite Pastime.
I met Ms. Davis at the National Sports Card Show in Chicago and had my photo taken with her and also received an autograph from her on an 8x10 and also her signature in my Baseball Hall of Fame book. She was a super lady.
I remember when the filming took place here in Evansville we all rushed out to see it. When we were on set they told us not to bother the actors during breaks in filming so Rosie Odonnel came up to my 8 year old daughter and asked her if she wanted an autograph. She talked to us for several minutes. I felt she was a class act
"There's no crying in baseball". I say that to my girls when were playing, no matter what game it is. I adore A League of Their Own. Only movie I like with Madonna in it....lol. Hi Amy.
A lady that lived next to our country school was in "A league of their own" her name was Phyllis J. Baker she was portrayed in the movie as Toots. She helped coach the local girls softball and baseball with her husband who was also a ball player Cliff Wise
It finally struck me why you resonate (certainly with me), where you humanize any number of people (including celebrities) and find things like this. Thanks.
Love this vlog, Jordan! "A League of their Own" is one of my favorite semi-historical films. So glad you featured these free spirits that helped keep baseball alive during WWII. Thanks to you and Amy for remembering Faye and Lavone.
Oh man this was a great tribute, one of my favorite movies ever, I usually don't cry at movies but I always cry at the end of this one. A Perfect film. And the real-life ladies were amazing. Love it!
Thank you soo much for taking us with you, that was awesome I too LOVE The League of Their Own movie, this vlog is VERY interesting and refreshing.Again Thank You Jordan Take Care and Be Safe 🙏😊
That was one of my favorite all female baseball movies. Penny did a great job with that. Gena Davis, Madonna, the others, fantastic movie. Might check it out on Nexflx later. Nice blog and great finding where they were buried. Thanks for staying 6 ft apart while searching!!!
Jordan As usual you provide the you tube community with very interesting facts on people we grew up with. Probably some we had even forgotten about. I hope you and Amy stay traveling to all these interesting places. It makes this isolation thing just a bit better. You and Amy ROCK !!
Hi Jordan. Nice video. I had the honour of friending Mary Bonnie Baker in the early 1970's. At the time Mary was managing a Local curling club. At the end of the evening I would sit with Mary and listen to her stories of the AAGPBL and all of her softball accomplidhments. One evening she had a photo album with hundres of pictures of her and the teams taken while she played baseball. Mary was georgeous in the day and she was always meticulously dressed. I thought the world of her. Mary is buried in my hometown of Regina Saskatchewan Canada. Thanks for making the video. It brought back fond memories of Mary.
A League Of Their own is one of my favorite movies. Thanks for vlogging this. I really enjoyed the background history. I have to watch it again for the umpteen time.
I love "A League of their Own"! Thanks for the vlog. I've always thought that the tall lady at the induction at Cooperstown at the end of the movie was the real Dottie (Pepper).
Just today i was thinking how much i was (already) missing baseball this year, and then...this! Excellent vlog full of fascinating facts on a great movie. Thank you so much. Stay safe and stay well.
I had watched some of the movie long time ago. I wondered about the women who inspired the characters in the movie. When I saw the title of this vlog I got excited. Loved learning about these remarkable women who played ladies baseball. They were amazing athletes. You and Amy make a good team. The ladies had great nicknames. Thank you Jordan and Amy. Every time I see Jah I just want to give him a big hug. Love you guys. God bless the three of you 😊
My family is from Kenosha WI where the Kenosha Comets are from. I never knew about the AAGBL as my grandma moved up to the Green Bay area where I was born. I still have family in Kenosha and visit often. What a great vlog this is. I love the movie and watch it often.
A League of Their Own! My very favorite movie. I started playing Softball in the first grade up until my senior year. Had to quit because of my second knee surgery. I could watch this movie over and over.
Such great info Jordan! Really enjoyed this vlog. You never fail to give a great vlog! I watch A League Of Their Own anytime I see that its playing on TV. Its a classic. Hi Amy !! Thanks guys!!
I have always loved that movie, so thank you for sharing! I was wondering if you update the 'Find a Grave' info for people who are harder to find like these two were?
Another absolutely amazing blog! It’s very interesting to learn about the women who inspired one of my favorite movies “A League of Their Own”! I’m going to have to read Lavone’s “Pepper’s” book. Im sure it is really interesting. It was great seeing Amy in this vlog too!
Thinking back about the movie, l remember the scene with Tom Hanks using the washroom. The length of time and strength of his "stream" was unrealistic, lol. Another great vlog Jordan, Thanks for sharing. Take Care and Stay Safe. 😷
Hi Jordan, ah, the Jahster is always a good boy. What a very interesting vlog and lovely to see Amy again, I am so pleased you managed to find both graves of these remarkable women. I will have to give the film a watch again. The cemetery looks well looked after. Great vlog Jordan.
Great vlog Jordan!!!! Love League of Their Own! Got to meet several of the girls in Kenosha, WI years back when their field was recognized for its part in the history of the AAGPBL!
Another great vlog Jordan and Amy. Love watching your channel. Always good to see Jah. Hope yall are doing well and as always look forward to seeing your next vlog Jordan. Take care my friend.
I loved that movie and wrote a report on influential women. Ms. Dancer was actually never married. Her fiancé died in the war and although she had boyfriends she never considered marrying anyone else. She was also born in Santa Monica!
A League of Their Own: My wife's favorite movie. Since the COVID 19 lock down, we've been together in the house, morning noon and night. Now I know what cemetery I'm going to bury her in! Thank you, Jordan and Amy! Great vlog!
I am glad that Penny Marshall went with Geena Davis because Deborah Winger raised a big stink about them casting Madonna. Geena was a class act. I can't stand women who have nothing better to do than hate on other women. ❤
Oops I was at work but finally got to take care of some of more important details that i like to keep up with... So great vlog today, Jordan excellent job. So take care stay safe🌺🍃🌺🍃🌺🍃🌻🌻👩🏻💻
I live in Europe, but I want to move out to LA...thanks for the videos bro, you have some good content :) Good job with being consistent with vlogging, that's how you build a channel or anything in life, and many people give up soon before they get to that point. Also, congrats on finding a really great looking woman. I'm 39 now, and given up on finding the right woman because nobody ever seems to be the right fit for me, but I'm okay with that.
Hey Jordan. I met Faye Dancer in 2000 when I worked for New Balance on Wilshire. She was really cool. She told me the film was 90% accurate, and she was "Mae's" character as you said. She came back and gave me a autographed baseball card, that has the pick you showed.
We had the Minneapolis Miller’s here in Minnesota. Willie Mays played with them. The females played on the Minneapolis Millerettes. Just an FYI. Minneapolis was a big flour mill city, hence the name Miller’s.
So weird you vlogged this because I’ve seen this movie a million times and never knew the actress who played Betty “spaghetti “ was Penny Marshall’s daughter...read about that the day before you posted this!
I saw Penny Marshall the Hollywood/Highland. She was very nice & approachable. Not that she HAD to be. I met & talked with Gary Marshall at the Universal City Walk Sheraton hotel. He sprung for drinks & dinner. He was really nice, too.
Hello Jordan from K Town Canada this was such a great vlog was one of my favourite movies its nice to learn about the real women who played baseball during ww2 thanks for this its nice to have something to look forward to watch during this time!
Sorry, I said mile.. I meant set half mile record.
Hehe, thanks, noticed that, was gonna look it up and see what she really did, it's good to know. Running a four minute mile is a good achievement, and fast walking a half mile in two minutes is awesome.
How dare you

i have a hard time believing a 2 min mile. i coach track, and my fastest mile runner is 4:12. thats running at his best speed.
My son's 3 great aunts were the Weaver sisters, Betty, Jean & JoAnne. I have a few things from their days playing for AAGPBL, for Fort Wayne, including a ball signed by the team!!!
My cousin played for the Fort Wayne Daisies in 1945 ,
went to Muskeagon Lassies '46 , she was an all star 3rd base

My grandma played for a bit and then she became a nurse. These women, inspired me to play and I continue to play as a 31 year old
I watch every time it's on TV. I am a big softy and cry at the end of it. I enjoy seeing the movie it never gets old.
"There's no crying in baseball". I say that to my girls when were playing, no matter what game it is. I adore A League of Their Own. Only movie I like with Madonna in it....lol. Hi Amy.

Love this vlog, Jordan! "A League of their Own" is one of my favorite semi-historical films. So glad you featured these free spirits that helped keep baseball alive during WWII. Thanks to you and Amy for remembering Faye and Lavone.
Penny Marshall wasn't just a wonderful actress, but she was a great movie director, and producer. R. I. P. Penny.
Oh man this was a great tribute, one of my favorite movies ever, I usually don't cry at movies but I always cry at the end of this one. A Perfect film. And the real-life ladies were amazing. Love it!

Seeing Jah in your clogs, always puts a smile on my face, especially with us all in isolation.
Maddonna and geena Davis took the roles.
