  • Dottie (Geena Davis) says goodbye to her sister and to baseball.
Watch League Of Their Own (1992) Now: AAN.SonyPicture...
Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna star in this major-league comedy from the team that brought you Big. Hanks stars as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ballplayer whose big league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943, while the male pros are at war, Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his all-girl team. Jon Lovitz adds a scene-stealing cameo as the sarcastic scout who recruits Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), the baseball dolly with a Babe Ruth swing. Teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O'Donnell round out the roster, taking the team to the World Series. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail, on the fields and off, for generations of athletes.

2:46 This is a moment that I don't think gets enough respect. After Kit's trade, Dottie throws out in anger that she got Kit into the league. But now, after Kit has just won it all, rather than trying to rub it in that Kit won it all because Dottie got her into the league, she tells Kit what Kit prolly should have known all along. Kit got herself into the league. Dottie just got her onto the train, since the scout wouldn't take Kit without Dottie, and into training where she had to prove that she was good enough, which she clearly was.

@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 You seem a little simple, so I will explain in as simple terms as I can. "Greatest baseball movie of all time" does and is describing it as a movie about BASEBALL. That, as you correctly state, is what an adjective does; qualifies and or describes the subject, in this case BASEBALL. However, the movie although set in the US baseball world, was very much about (the real subject) the social relationship and achievements of the women who were given an opportunity by the war taking the men away and who stepped up to show the world what they could do. This happened in sport, industry and in just about every field of civilian endeavor. Unfortunately, for the most part, when the men returned, the women would relegated back to the kitchen. The world is not fair.

This is a great scene. And it needed to be said by Dotty that Kit got herself into the league. If she wasn’t good enough, she wouldn’t have made it. AND, Dotty didn’t drop the ball on purpose. Kit knocked her on her butt because she wasn’t expecting her to hit the ball and go for the home run.

I love this movie! But I couldn't stand the character of Kit. She was the reason why Dottie left home to play baseball so that Kit could have a chance at life. Dottie team would've won if Kit didn't cry like someone died. I know Dottie gave her the win, because she knew that Kit felt she was always in her shadow. Dottie was a better player, and much more wiser. Kit was just annoying!

Yes. Firstly, she gave Kit a clue about the pitch when she told the pitcher to throw high balls that she couldn't l lay off of them and the coach yelled lay off the high balls. That was the same scenario at the beginning of the movie when Kit struck out on high balls. Secondly, there was a similar scene previously where the base runner slammed into Dottie and she held onto the ball. Proves that she had the ability to make the play. She knew how much this meant to Kit, and as a big sister who was always in the spotlight, she knew what she had to do for Kit.

No, she didn't. She told Ellen Sue Kit's weakness. Her face shows her determination to win in every moment. When she lost and the game was over she felt happy for Kit. That was how Dottie was, it was just a game to her once it was done. But while she was playing she was totally in it to win.

You mean Amazon. It has since been scrapped after the First season. I do entirely agree with you. They made it more about the people rather than the game. The women’s league was more about saving the sport of baseball, just as they were used in factories during the war. The women of color used in the league needs a far greater story than the one that was portrayed.
