In this video, we look at the left wrist at the top of the backswing. There are certain windows you'll want to be in as you start your downswing, and they might be bigger than you thought!

Shaun - Watching your swing after explaining the concept is a great addition to the video. When you explain the 3D models, I’ve always wanted to see more physical demonstration with real movement. A++ video.
Thanks, Charlie!
Great lesson for better ball striking
No one brings understanding, through great science, like the athletic motion golf guys. Thank you.
Thanks so much we really appreciate you
These Video have been awesome, i've always struggled with a big cup, this has given me some good info, thank you
That cupped lead wrist can be a difficult deal for a lot of golfers... but it can also be fixed!😉
Shaun nailed it for me at the 4 min mark - radial deviation. Trying to keep my wrists “loose” so they hinge is my killer. I know what to work on! Thanks Gents!
Another great video guys 👍
Nice demo! Love the toys. Keep 'em coming,
That's the plan! Thanks buddy👊
Excellent content. Technology is changing the future of golf instruction.
It lets us measure more for sure, but I think it really lets the golfer develop FEEL for what they're trying to do MUCH FASTER.
Bought one yesterday. Incredible device . And this video really helps in how to use it correctly , I was thinking I had to be in minus at the top which is just impossible without pain for me so +14 is great 👍
Where are you guys at looks cold lol this video really helps me ! I have been always trying to figure out wrist angles thanks for the info
I wish that were the case... this one was shot on a very hot humid day in Shreveport
Awesome content guys, what are the optimal wrist conditions with driver at impact?
That’s nice! Id like to see Louis Oosthuizen and Rorys numbers they look very cuped at the top.
I do the Dustin Johnson thing... It helps with accuracy but it too kills my wrist. Thanks for the information, it just might have saved my golf career.
Yeah that's a really tough one to do safely, glad this helped!
Great video! Can you guys talk about wrist angles at address and how they relate to the position at the top and impact?
yessir
The flat left wrist also "naturally" puts the hands ahead of the club head at impact. Love it!!
Very informative…trying to think about it relative to the club face, wouldn’t there be a much bigger variance depending upon how you grip the club? For example, if you have a very weak grip, your numbers would tend to need to be more flexion vice having a very strong grip, which would already pre-set your wrist in extension…does that make sense?
One of the most informative videos you have done. Very simple but right to the point. I actually consciously try to bow my wrist as much as possible in my practice swing but not when addressing the ball. I find that this then gives me a flatter wrist when hitting a ball. Real v feel. Great stuff, thank you.
Great stuff there, Martin. Finding your feel for the real is where it's at.👊
I can't get a flat left wrist but I compensate for it with a strong left hand grip and my clubface stays square and I can lag it a lot more coming down with the cup feeling. Seems to work., though I don't know if any tour players do it
Another great video. Can we send a video of a swing to you for analysis?
Bill, we used to do free analysis, but we just couldn't keep up the volume that was coming in. We do have everything now through our iLessons. Here's a link for more info if you're interested: athleticmotiongolf.clickfunnels.com/ilessons
Would love to see just info on player version to see if worth getting
The grip, a very strong left hand position with all four knuckes or even three and a half visible knuckles, definitely causes a cup in the wrists, I'm thinking Paul Azinger, Fred Couples, not sure of David Duval.
I forget how their wrists looked at impact, I know Duval shut the face going back and more or less held on for dear life thru impact. With that strong of a grip the wrists would break sideways not up which would cause the cupping. I know this from more error than trial. Thanks guys! Great instruction.
As an average weekend warrior I am not sure that I would be willing to invest in the Hackmotion sensor, but it does like a great training aid.
The main takeaway I get from this video is that if you can get your correct golf impact alignments such as flat left wrist correct during the slower part of your swing in the takeaway, then you will have a much more repeatable and lower maintenance golf swing.
You got it Richard! And we would never ask an individual to invest in something like this. It's cool for us as instructors to have and we wanted to share some actual data on the subject. I think you completely got the intention of the video👊
Gary Player was once quoted as saying pro golfers with excessive flexion like Dustin Johnson, don’t last the test of time. Looking at how Sean’s wrist was smarting after just one swing, it would seem that quote rings pretty true. Great vid and tip with making a fist with the lead hand.
It's a VERY painful position to get to for most golfers, myself included. But the good thing is it's not necessary, lol.
Well I just looked back at your ball position video for driver, iron and wedge and see that the pros have their hands way forward of the ball at impact for irons so please ignore my last post. Sorry.
I ordered one 4 days ago
Ever use the k-motion stuff?
Yes
Loved when you said to just "make a fist". The flat left wrist is the key to good impact. I've always been a flipper, with a really high ball flight. The flat, or slightly bowed left wrist actually forces you to do other things differently too. You'll find that you need to be slightly "open" at impact, and you'll also need more side bend through impact. Great stuff, guys!
This is awesome stuff guys!! What the tour range is for impact position, top position, and address position on the hack motion? I am really more interested to hear what the tour range is for impact that we should practice to obtain. My guess for the tour range impact position is 0 to -10 degrees on tour. Am I right?? ;)
So far we've seen the range from +5 to -7.
ISO is a setting on cameras to adjust for lighting.
And it was a pain setting it for this foreground/background 🤦♂️
@@AthleticMotionGolf I think you all meant iOS app. iOS is the Iphone Operating System.
Are we suppose to be at full ulnar deviation at impact or just after impact ?
You don't want to be at the end of your range of motion at impact
Where can i order a plane board? The blue one yall have.
Don't remember exactly where that one came from, but you can get these very similar ones from amazon: www.amazon.com/Foamnasium-1020-Wedge-Blue/dp/B0067D0MCA/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1542015969&sr=8-14&keywords=foamnasium
Always pays to watch your videos even when I think, like this one, I know what you are going to say. What I picked up was not really the point of your demonstration, it was the result Shawn had when he kept the wrist cupped at impact. His description of the ball flight was that it was a flop shot so I assume it was high and weak. I hit high iron shots which don't have regular distance. Could that be a cause? When I start pushing my iron shots, the first thing I concentrate on is flattening the wrist, but I have never concentrated on the wrist position at impact and am not sure what I would need to do/feel to accomplish this as my wrist appears to be cupped at address and trying to keep it flat puts my hands way in front of the ball. Unless I am way off, how about a video about the position of the wrist at impact and maybe how to achieve that? Thanks again for all the time and energy you guys devote to these videos.
Paul have you seen the "coat hanger drill" in this one yet? ua-cam.com/video/N1H9N_o8Uos/v-deo.html
Now I am really feeling senile. Totally missed the last part of that drill. OK, I promise to first check your prior videos before commenting, yeah right. I am sure I will forget, but that is the great thing about dementia, you keep learning new things.
I worked for 6 months to bow my wrist at the top. It helps me keep my elbows together. Please don't tell me I have to go the other way.
No sir. We are not fans of changing something that is working.
This edition of "Feel vs Real" brought to you by the makers of AMG. The truth is cuppy.
Lil' bit, lil bit😊
Thanks. Enjoying your videos but I’m frugal and don’t know what that gadget costs. Why not use a credit card under the top flap of the golf glove? If I cup my wrist at the top I’ll certainly know it.
Lot's of things you can use to train that for sure. We did a recent video using a plastic coat hanger to train it. We aren't a paid endorser of this or any product, and we aren't trying to convince anyone they need to go out and purchase one. We just want to share the info we're collecting.
I remember sending u guys an reply on this because I struggle with this and I can't seem to stop it. So when I get my driver in my hand its wrapped round my neck. But its a high fade and same with Irons and loose distance as well because of it.
I have been practicing to reduce this but when u go to the course its all too easy to go back to what u were doing because it feels abnormal. I see my shots at the range way better than on course. But I really find it hard to take something new to a game.
U guys actually did a video on this for me which I have been trying.
Because of the cupped wrist it also makes me through it out from the top as well. Straight ish wrist is way shorter and I can get inside and the sequence and tempo is way better. Just by altering the wrist.
One thing I find hard though is at impact!! I struggle to rotate the hands and leave it open as well. So so so frustration.
Great video again tho. 👍🏽👌🏽
Thanks buddy. Be patient with yourself! Start feeling like you square the face right from the top. When guys come in describing doing that same thing through impact, 9/10 times they are just starting the squaring of the face WAY too late.
@@AthleticMotionGolf its even at impact then after impact I find my self looking at my finished position and because of the cupped wrist I can leave the face open. Its so hard to rotate the hands through because of this. Hope you know what I mean. After impact position of the hands. Been trying to work on that too.
Thanks guys.
@@TTT-Turbo So lets look before that... on the downswing from a down the line view, when the club shaft is parallel with the ground... where is the leading edge of your club pointing? example: straight up and down would be 12:00.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I will be at the range tomorrow night so I will get my friend to video it. 👍🏽👌🏽
This hack motion is just one more thing that I love and equally hate about golf. The technology and learning/coaching capabilities of this product seem to be top shelf. This would most certainly help me with my atrocious cupped wrist. BUT, at $800 this device is yet another reason to hate golf. Trackman at $9000, K-vest training/lessons, lessons with gears, lessons with top coaches, etc. Prices are just too high for the average golfer.
Just like the Trackman machine: The Hackmotion sensor is for golfers who have a handicap of 2 and under that want to break par or shoot in the 60's.
Why is that?
Hogan famously said a cupped left wrist was his “secret.” However, he had a bowed left wrist at impact. That is a lot of change to do from top of backswing to impact. He hit many thousands of balls to groove his swing. While that are legions of golfers who revere his “5 Lessons”, this wrist angle and his keeping his right elbow tight to his side may have worked for him, but it does not for most golfers. Keep it simple!
AND what shot was he working so hard to never hit?
AND what shot do most golfers hit?
😊
He was trying to prevent a hook of course and the majority of golfers fight a slice. HOWEVER, my experience is that a cupped left wrist results both left and right shots. In short unpredictable! Go with a flat left wrist!
Not sure all the commentators are getting the point..? I took away from this that there’s a relatively wide window for achieving a good strike, but 0 degrees may feel slightly bowed (which is revealing). This can also drilled/trained with a coat hanger, as in other vids... 🤜 (10 degrees +/-) 😁
Thank you for getting the point of the video, CWON👊😊
A coat hanger and some awareness is all you need to get this going.
My coaching pro explained Dustin has the wrist angle because of hiw damn high his hands are at the top. He probably had a lesson somewhere down the line and was too Jim Furyk. So excessive reverse motorcycle probably fixed it for him
Or does he have high hands because of that wrist angle???😊
@@AthleticMotionGolf Either is very plausible.... It would be interesting to know that
@@Ryan-fx7jx that's definitely a superpower of his because that's physically not in the cards for most humans. There have been lots who've had high hands without that wrist condition so I'm with you and think it would be interesting to hear the origin story there. I could be wrong, but I think I remember him saying he's always just done that.
ISO snow. Need a reflector. Everyone’s a critic 🤓
Haha not our favorite shooting inside against a blown out background, but neither is shooting in the rain😊
Swag
That's 800$ dollars worth of feel.🤑
You didn't say anything about how to swing faster. I assume that there is a technique to this not just try to swing faster.
Because this video was about the left wrist😉
$795.00 for the hack sensor...
Why not just place a pencil or similar in the back of your glove? No measurement, better feedback.
Not sure how this benefits the average golfer. Way to technical for me.
