    Nailed it! It's the optical illusion of the face-on view of lag 👍🏻

    great video a lot of information there, the hack motion tool is a realy bit of kit. I get pupils working that last parallel drill when they are working on that position.

    Thanks Clay, I enjoy your videos, and found this one really helpful as well. Your discussion of the bowed left wrist made me think of the way Dustin Johnson takes it to the top. I never understood that move, but it makes a bit more sense now.

    This is a real good explanation and correct way to naturally keep the lag. Most would cup the wrist, which creates tons of issues and compensations. That is, good coaches make things simple and natural. Average instructors can teach you for years without real improvement.

      Wilson Hung So right. You're better off buying an hour with a top-level teacher than six months with an average one. The best teachers can see things the average ones don't.

    I have fought wrist cupping in my swing for years. I'm not sure the numbers this device is presenting tell the whole story. On the first bad swing the ball flight showed not only an open club face but an excessive inside out swing path. Try this example. Don't cup your wrist and take the club to the top and stop. Now cup the wrist. Notice how the club goes to a steeper position. You did a great job of getting the wrist uncupped at impact (-8) but still hit a bad shot. My contention is that the steeper path caused by cupping made it harder to square the face. Given your higher skill level you tried to overcome this by dropping further inside but still hit a push fade even though the wrist was not cupped at impact. Just my own experience, don't claim to be a pro. Love all your videos.

      Hi Steve, thanks for sharing. Cupping doesn't always steepen up the shaft. That's more from wrist rotation (pronation/supination). You will often rotate your wrist differently to compensate for a cupped wrist (ie coming over the top). Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    Excellent discussion of lag - never thought about how radial deviation causes wrist extension and an open club face. But one thing I don't get is that if the key is getting a flat or bowed wrist through the impact zone, how does that relate to lag in the downswing and what should we do at the top of the swing to "get lag?" What is the relationship between the start of the downswing where we typically think of cocking the wrists to get lag and the bowing of the wrist through impact?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  4 роки тому

      Hi, the appearance of the sharp angle of lag comes from three things. 1. wrist cock (radial deviation), 1. shallowing the club and 3. the momentum of the club. I do see it sometimes but if you're casting then it's really tough to get in a position at impact where you're getting some good forward shaft lean. Even if you are, you're losing a lot of speed. More often, I see those who have no issues getting lag but tend to throw it away early due to the way they square the face which is by cupping the lead wrist and pushing through with the trail wrist (flipping). Ideally, you would learn to generate lag, shallow the club and square the face with forward shaft lean. We have the Top Speed Lag and The Move course on our website for this. Play well! I think I noticed in the "bad" swing video still, you had a flying right elbow? In the "good" swing still, not so much? Your thoughts? As a right-handed player, I think I tend to use my right arm too much. Thanks for the video Clay.

      I noticed the same thing. In order to bow his wrist as much as he wanted he had to have a steeper back swing which resulted in a more out to in swing which exaggerated the slice more.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  4 роки тому

      Hi Jim, a flying right elbow is fine. In fact, Clay has poor mobility in his shoulder so he has to fly his elbow if he wants to get his full range of motion. If he didn't then he would lose a lot of speed because his swing would be shorter. The key is bringing the elbow back into the body on the downswing. If you keep it out there then you'll come over the top and probably slice it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    When do you realese the wrist? how long should you hold it at impact?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  4 роки тому

      You're going to typically start releasing when the lead arm is parallel to the ground in the downswing. It happens gradually at first. It then fully release in front of impact about 45 degrees ideally. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

      Ted Finkenauer I've take struggled to make this work with the driver but a board wrist has worked magic for me with the wedges. I set up with it bowed and hold it that way all the way through. Minimal face rotation and it's impossible to flip it left. For whatever reason, I can't seem to do it with the driver without getting REALLY flat and hitting the 30 yard push.

    Sometimes when I bow my wrist, I hit the ball off the top/roof of the driver. Is there a way to fix this or am I just bowing my wrist too much?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, it's hard to say without seeing your swing by you may be coming down steep. I would recommend trying to stay behind the ball and hit up on it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    Excuse me for asking this but if your technique is correct, and you being so young, what will it take for you to compete at the PGA level?

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Clay did play on mini tours for a little while. I think if Clay wanted to spend 10 hours a day practicing for the next several months, he could attempt to start playing pro again but it's really tough. You gotta be scoring in the low to mid 60s regularly during casual rounds on a championship level course to really have a chance. Anyone making it on Tour is really good. Play well! Good lord! I love Top Speed Golf and Tennis, but talk about information overload. I don't have enough money or time to practice with all the tech and tips that it suddenly requires to swing a golf club. Just listen at 4:24 to 5:48. In my opinion, that is a ridiculous amount of info to observe and correct. I would never have time to play a relaxing and joyful round of golf if I were paying that much attention to such technicalities. Unless you are playing tournament golf or playing for money with your friends, if your just a hacker like most of us, I have one tip and you don't have to buy any tech, or quit you job or leave your family in order to practice and PLAY golf. Here it is. Hit em till you happy.
