Had my first dram of this one in Oban, on the harbor, over a plate of fish & chips. Fantastic dram, sentimental connection aside it's still one of my favorites. Cheers guys.
It’s amazing how a sentiment can make a flavor increase on your palate. This one not included.
Damn this would be great and fish and chip batter
This is my go-to whiskey.
This is my favorite Scotch. I think I’m on my 4th bottle of it now. I visited Oban on my trip to Scotland in 2016, however I wasn’t into Scotch yet, only having some of the Glen Livet and Tomintoul at the time.
I discovered it summer of 2020. Today I purchased Oban 18 and saving that for a special occasion. I think I’ll pick up the little bay Oban and do a tasting of the three in one setting.
Last month I traveled to my sister’s in another state and I didn’t take any of my whiskeys with me, so I picked up a 14 and brought it to a cookout she was having for Memorial day. I opened it up and shared it wit people there; people who didn’t drink Scotch, or only Bourbon, and those who didn’t drink either. It was a hit. We nearly finished the bottle. I think that’s a good sign of a good whiskey. The most important being that it was drank amongst old and new friends, and not just sitting on a self.
Cheers!
LoL 4th bottle. I hope youre 21
my mother got a bottle to have on Christmas years ago and we finally opened it. best distilled spirit that's ever touched my lips.
"The memorial of..some war.. i dont know which one"
*Laughs in German*
I received a bottle as a sectet Santa gift. I like the smoothness and the light smoky smell.
It is my favorite Scotch Whisky by far. Here in the USA it goes for $85.00 a bottle.
I always love sipping along with your reviews. I couldn't agree more on the nosing notes. I get an almost tropical fruitiness too. The brine on palate is the real gem in this whisky along with a hint of smoke. I find this a very accessible whisky indeed. Solid review as always. Thank you.
This was my first whiskey i ever bought/drank. I did not like it at first (having me worried i just wasted 50 euro). But I wasn't discouraged and kept trying and then it really grew on me and I started to actually taste things other than the burning alchohol I used to in the beginning. And now I've tried various different whisky and I can say I liked them all. (well except Johny walker red label haha)
So Oban 14 will always be special to me... actually want to pick it up again now ^^
I get tart green apples for the fruit. Almost sour apple. It's the predominant flavor for me.
huh???
A top 5 Scottish whisky for me. The price in the U.S. as of Nov. 2021 is $90... wish it was more in the $50 range.
I had to pay €45, - 😎
Costco $65
I had the privilege to taste the Oban 21 a few years ago at a friend's bachelor party. It was extremely smooth and easy to sip. It had almost a buttery, salt, caramel, fruit and herb taste.
Seeing as I can't really justify spending $700 on a bottle of whisky I will just continue to buy the 14 or 18 as they are both wonderful and so smooth.
I’m gonna be honest, I like Oban whisky cos I’m from Oban, I don’t know how it holds up against other Highland whisky so it’s nice to see other people’s perspectives
I was gifted a bottle last year, which I quite enjoyed. It goes for about $100 US here.
I quite like it. It's quite chill and easy to drink. I usually drink very smokey whisky like Ardbeg or Lagavulin but it's nice to have some contrast sometimes.
I really enjoy watching your reviews. I do miss review from "Elements of islay" bottles.
I just tasted Oban 14 for the first time while watching your video. I expected it to be more smoky than it smells or tastes and was initially a little disappointed. Nonetheless, it reveals a smooth, rich and complex taste. It s one of those you can relax with. Having had a bit of a munch between the two pours I had, it really changed the taste : a little more smoke, honey, and nutty flavours. I expect my impressions could vary greatly from day to day. Anyhow I will enjoy going back to this Oban 14. Cheers for your great work !
The high gray structure is McCaig’s Tower, built in 1897.
Ich habe oban 14 gestern gekauft, so gut!
Listen with your headphones ... the moment they sip at 04:00 ... close your eyes and just listen to that sound. WHAT IS THAT ??!!! :D Brilliant review.
Someone please tell me how ANY Scotch (like Macallan 50 Year Old Single Malt) can sell for $117,437.99 There is no human on earth that taste that much of an extreme difference to justify that price tag. This is not a rhetorical question. I really want a logical answer.
FOMO, being able to buy something someone else cannot
Afford
That sounds like Fear, stupidity and insecurity combined. (In the person wasting their money.)@@AndrewS-wj8be
Thanks for your kind of information
I'm opening my bottle of this tomorrow and can't wait to compare it to my only other bottle of scotch for now, The Glenlivet 15. Think it will be a learning experience, as I am a very amateur scotch drinker. They seem only somewhat different in ways, but quite different in others from reviews I've read and watched.
Opened another bottle of Oban 14 about a week ago. I really like the smoky note and the fact that it isn't sweet like many others can be. I tasted the sea in this too, also got a bit of sulphur, and could taste the wood of the cask too. I am very amateur at scotch tasting still, but I can get quite a lot out of this dram compared to the others I have had, at least for now.
Great to see yous, have not saw any vids in a while!
Just bought a 750 ml of this at Costco in California for $55. Not sure if that's overpriced or not. Costco usually has great prices, although not always on spirits.
Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy it cost me $105 aud so I think that's a pretty decent price
@@elliothandley9732 Whoa, you aussies get screwed on prices for certain things, huh? Loving this bottle, by the way. It's a great scotch.
I am on the east coast and paid 85$ for it. Alot of places in this area sell it for 95-110$
@@Quacklebush Dang, guess I lucked out then.
Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy whisky fluctuates a lot from region to region but yeah most of the time we get totally ripped off with alcohol. Can get some good local wine on the cheap but anything imported is $$$
The structure above the town of Oban is McCaig's Tower, probably better known as "McCaig's folly. It was a wealth banker's tribute to his own family.
I love the Clynelish 14...wonder if this compares?Have never tried it!
I love Oban.
I enjoy the balance of this whisky. What glasses are you drinking out of?
I think those are snifters
Really enjoy this whiskey but picking it up now in 2023 @$150 Canadian is rough
Oh totally agree! Had this at a bar and it's great, but at the CAD prices there is sadly better.
I've been there... it's beautiful.... and btw, it's very popular in the US..... it's sold at Costco
That’s where I got mine … $65
Just bought some its amazing
Love it, price increase has skewered my budget
Just bought this whisky, can't wait to try it
Not mid $40s in my area. $80 + tax. Still very good. Wish it was a $45 bottle.
what glasses are these please ? look amazing
These are our own glasses, designed by Horst and only available from our online shop.
When you said grenadine. I was thinking blood orange.
I like Oban but it is a pricey
This is my favourite whiskey, probably bias as it was my first distillery. I bought a few bottles at $70aud a few years back and now they're $130
Since when do you talk into the class when testing.....
I love this one
Are you on any social media
The frist time i tasted this was in bar where I live and all i can say was that i fell in love immediately, so now when i get some money next friday im thinking of order a bottle of this wonderful dram
I will be honest I like but still enjoy the Arran 10 more
Thanks!
Fantastic whisky. I agree it's hard to find the notes but it sure does taste great! It goes for $68 + tax here on NY. Great buy.
Its $140.00 CAD.
I love the smell of it but the taste not so much
Ben was trying VERY hard to be positive, but he's thinking the way I am. You'll spend a long time searching for flavors and not find much. A bit TOO laid back as far as I'm concerned.
Pineapple
Goes really nice with ginger beer.
I didn't taste salt ahahah
Very basic whiskey imo. The sweetness dissappears pretty quickly and you are left with pretty much oak and bitter lemon. And i havent felt any smoke. Feels like a middle ground between speyside and highland whiskeys. So it seems like we have drank different whiskeys completely:)))
I find it hilarious the way people act when drinking something that is out of their league. Stop with all the bullshit. It’s whiskey and it either taste good or not. It’s that simple. And the over acting when giving to glass a smell is fucking hilarious AF

Этот с бородой слишком долго зубы спаласкивает. Vomits(
Ben, stop gargling while your father is speaking. It's very annoying and impolite.
His father did the exact same thing while he was speaking. So stop picking and enjoy the video, they can do what they like
Whatever Ben was doing was not as impolite as your comment! Oh the irony!
Found the jw red drinker , twat
