      Hardly propaganda - they’re old, ornery, in limited supply, cranky and pricey, so not for the feint-hearted. Good, though.

      @@Rockbeareguitars I should have included the subtext about propaganda in quotation marks. I was attempting to reference the Che Guevara propaganda conversation within the video. Great and entertaining show.

    Dwight - Sonny Shields Music in East St Louis. I have a Dwight coronet circa 1962 with its matching amp. it also has another unique feature. There is not a traditional tone knob. There is a 2 position switch in place. 1 is direct pickup. 2 is a “dark” circuit. Steve Marriott played one.

    Major Sleeper in the USA-- AMPRO. They made a 2 6L6 12" approximately 20 watt combo that screams nice clean headroom to about "1" on the volume...lol. Think an old old Marshall just saturated and sweet warm distortion. If you can find one you'll spend less than 600 bucks.

    I love V’s and Explorers. Goose you seem like the investigatory type so here’s one for you. It’s well known that Jimmy Page used a Flying V for the recording of You Shook Me on Zep1. But what kind of V was it? The Korina ones came out in 58 only for one year but then in 67 they were reissued but this time in Manogony, different control layout, bridge and tail (not string thru like the korina’s) etc.. Hendrix preordered his in 67 and didn’t get it until 68, Zep1 was recorded in 68 so it could have been that but idk I tend to doubt it. Story goes it was a used guitar that somebody was trying to sell Page that he eventually didn’t end up buying. So I doubt somebody procured one as fast as Hendrix’s advanced order came (when he was literally the biggest act in rockin roll) and then tried to sell it within months: I tend to think it was an original 58 Korina V. Outside of Albert King and Lonnie Mack nobody used them: The only 2 I know of in the UK were Dave Davies (which he wouldn’t have been selling) and the one Keith Richards had and played at the Hyde Park concert after Brian Jones died in 69. That guitar was eventually stolen from where the Stones were staying in France. The question is was that the V that was floating around the UK in 68 that Page used to record You Shook Me and was eventually used by Keith?…have at it bro

      @thebobandramonshow  2 місяці тому

      You’ve got me there - I wasn’t even aware that he had used a V on that recording. I think it’s equally possible that it was a ‘58 or ‘68. The former were very scarce whereas the latter would have been more common in Uk as the distribution channel was in place by that time. I remember there being quite a few in the shops by ‘70, Wishbone’s Andy Powell and Savoy Brown”s Kim Simmonds being two of the eras high-profile players.

      @@thebobandramonshow oh yeah the 67’s were common as hell and they still make them today. The 58’s there was only 91 ever made. Aside from the 19 Explorers they’re the rarest of the rare. But Zep 1 was recorded in Sept/Oct 68’ and Hendrix didn’t get his advanced order V until mid 68. And the V that was trying to be sold to Page was a used guitar. So that would tend to make me assume that it might have been an original 58. Also, Page had a penchant for thinner necks (his 60 black beauty had a 60 neck and his 59 Burst had been shaved down prior to Joe Walsh selling it to him). The original 58’s had baseball bat necks. So perhaps that why he passed on it. Given the timeframe if I had to bet I’d say the used guitar trying to be sold to him (who was at the time somewhat famous for his time in the Yardbirds) wasn’t one that was readily available for sale at local shops yanno. If I had to guess I would say that the V he used and passed on buying was an original 58 and to further go out on a limb given their scarcity especially in the UK if I had to guess I’d say that very V was later purchased by Keith Richard’s and used as a one off in the Hyde Park concert in 69 after Brian Jones’s death. Just a hypothesis that can’t be proven unless someone definitively knows the answer or unless Page came out and said it was a 58 version, but it all lines up. There certainly couldn’t have been more than a handful of original 58’s in the UK at the time. And given the recording dates of the album and when Hendrix received his (mid 68) I kind of doubt it was the 67 version being sold as a used guitar to an already famous musician when those would have been readily available in shops yanno.
