Denner and Shermann are one of the greatest guitar tandems ever. They compliment each other's playing and are right up there with Murray/Smith and Downing/Tipton. No Metalhead should go without having Melissa and Don't Break the Oath in their collections. I wanna say thank you to Hank and Michael for all the great music they've created together! I've been a fan since 1984 will continue following your careers
+Mediocre Gaming There new cd Satan's Tomb with Snowy Shaw and Sean Peck singing is not bad check is out the bassist is from Hanks band Demonica. Here on youtubechec it out . I have the cd and it kicks ass seriously. The singer sounds a little like Rob Halford.
WELL SAID !!!
Hank Shermann is one of the greatest guitarists/songwriters in heavy metal, it's a shame he isn't more well known.
Great examples, and I could add Kiko Loureiro and Rafael Bittencourt.....
You're right
This album is a musical masterpiece.
Every time I show my dad (who only listens to folk rock) a Mercyful Fate riff, he goes fucking nuts. That's how good these guys were.
I love folk and MF.
it's impossible not to get the goosebumps when these guitar legends deliver the goods
I had the same exact feeling when first listening to "Don't Break the Oath." The moment 'A Dangerous Meeting' started, the hairs on my arms and neck stood on end.
@@Yarsh52 Its maybe the only album that did that to me. I have listened to tons of metal.
It was the early 80s. I went to see Motorhead at the Warfield in San Francisco. Exciter was good. Standard issue metal. The next band to play blew me away. Mercyful Fate was nothing like that which I had listened to before. The quality of the musicianship did not seem to belong to metal at the time. I was at a loss to describe what I had heard. I found Melissa, the EP, and Don't Break the Oath in rapid succession. After that experience, most of metal no longer cut it for me. Mercyful Fate's albums survive the test of time.
Laurence Pinney Exactly MF is GD enough for me
haha I love how Denner tries to imitate the vocals silently at the start of Gypsy. They are both geniuses. Probably most underrated guitar players in music
Tears in my eyes boys, thanks so much! My 2 biggest guitar influences right here. Looking back at the 80's, I was in my teens when Melissa and Don't Break the Oath came out and needless to say they changed my musical interests forever. This guitar duo was the main reason I decided to start playing guitar and I can still vividly recall all those nights alone in the basement figuring out how to play some songs from both albums. The Oath was probably the very first song I learned all the way through and our band would jam that specific song relentlessly. It's such a treat to see Hank and Michael jamming on these classics again. Thank you so much guys!
Hey Johnny, thanks for your kind words, glad we have been an inspiration for you to pick up the guitar :-) HS
Listening to COME TO THE SABBATH makes me want to sing :D
What a monster of an album.
One of the greatest guitar partnerships in HM history, right up there with KK Downing and Glenn Tipton.
Don’t forget Blakk and Larocque. It’s a shame they’re not together, just like Downing and Tipton are.
Sackson and Murray & Smith
Cool to hear "The Oath" done instrumentally! Thanks guys!
Michael Denner has such a great Schenker-esque feel and style to his soloing.
Thank you for these uploads, Hank. It's amazing to watch you and Michael playing these old classics together. I have great respect for the both of you, and your creativity and talent will live on in your music for generations to come. Thank you for your greatly inspiring work!
- Karl
Hey Karl, thanks fot the kind words. We have more great stuff coming up...stay tuned..HS
+Hank Shermann Official cant wait
Black goat cheese of the forest sez good morning
That's a masterclass lesson right there, for all young guitarrists....
Don't Break the Oath is an epic album - one of the top ten metal albums of all time, if you ask me.
I definitely agree with you on that!
Men I wish to see Mercyful with its original members, its sad that the great player Hansen passed away, still it would be great to see this awesome duet of guitarrist playing
GUYS, THANK YOU. IT'S ALREADY 40 YEARS OLD AND THE ALBUM IS THE BOMB!!!
Their brains are still set to perform very old and long time not performed stuffs. Very nice!!
Michael Denner plays the most beautiful sounding guitar solos.
Some of the best guitar work of all time. One of the best metal albums. Been listening to Dont break the Oath and Melissa since they came out and still love it!
There just needs to be a fucking reunion, that's all there is to it. I just went to the KD show here in Seattle, and the crowd went apeshit when he played the two Fate songs. You guys have to do it, please talk some sense into him or management or whoever makes these decisions!
i agree, "the oath" is probably best track king had ever written
They are the kings of riffs, no doubt!
So beautiful, heavy, shredding, absolutely...fucking loved these guys since '83, saw them at the Country Club in Feb '85 and so many times since
Such a good feeling to see you guys together nowadays! TOUR TOUR TOUR? North America!!!!!!!!!!
Both guitars got an AMAZING tone.
I was about 15 years young that i came in contact with their music, the albumcover is a part of my Mercyfull Fate armcover, tatooed by the great dutch tattooartist called Hanky Panky. Every time an old time rocker like me see these tatoos, we share good moments, and addresses. What music can do in your live is unbelievebel! Hail to Mercyful fate!
Still nowadays, one of the best guitar duos in Rock. Supreme playing with very difficult scales. Geniuses.
I’m a 58 year old man from Mexico.
The first time I got hooked into king’s
Diamond music.
Was back in 1985
When I went to record shop at
Time square.
I love king’s creativity.
Stay heavy!
Nyc 2023.
Excellent combination absolutely!!!
Still Amazing all these years later...Thank You for all the Awesome memories 🙏
I loved that album... still do.
This was the first album of Mercyful Fate I had ever heard. I was 13 years old at the time, back in 88. I still listen to it religiously to this day!! I turn 39 in 12 days just to let you know the impact your albums have had on me. Especially the first 3 (this includes the EP). Without you guys, there would have been absolutely no Metallica or Slayer... Or countless other bands who came later. Mercyful Fate is the BEST!!
Hey Steve, cool you like the Albums we did back in the 80s, we certainly enjoyed the early days playing concerts and record Albums!! HS
My friend, once i saw Hetfield saying that Metallica exists because of Motorhead and Black Sabbath but not because of Mercyful Fate although this band has influenced Metallica. Influences...Many other bands influenced Metallica...
alexander fernandes valu Metallica was influence by them big time
You can tell this gents are really enjoying their bangers
sherman/denner & smith/murray the 2 greatest guitar duos ever...
i loved listening to The Oath played 'live'
Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, Glenn Tipton and KK Downing, Hank Sherman and Michael Denner. Best guitar duo’s in the world. While it has been too difficult and expensive to find a Boss SP1, I have been able to duplicate the effect with a Q filter as I have a couple presets I made on my Line 6 HX Effects that get pretty close to the iconic tones of this duo. Some of my favorite songs to play on guitar. That midrange bite and searing solo sound. Of course the writing is stellar and what really makes the songs but the two of you had such great distinctive guitar sounds that set you both apart and easily recognizable.
I've been a fan since 1984 when a college friend played Mellissa for me the first time. I was blown away by the quantity of amazing riffs packed into each song. I was used to hearing verse/chorus/bridge with maybe an intro or solo breakdown but you guys broke all the molds with such intricate songs. The solos on top of the riffs were so melodic and interesting. I bought Don't Break the Oath as soon as it came out and was in love from the first listen. The intro to Desecration of Souls is my favorite intro to any song ever. I can feel it in my bones every time I hear it. Thank you for all the awesome music!
Hey Hank, hands down, Don't Break the Oath was the BEST, album, MF ever recorded (I still have my vinyl copy) & it was an honour, to meet both you, & King, backstage, in Montreal, in the 90's. Your material was some of the most enjoyable, that I played on guitar. May both the music & memories, of Don't Break the Oath, live forever, in our hearts & souls! Stay heavy & say hi to King for me !
"Gypsy" is my favourite song MF, what a super rhythm and solos with finesse
Whoa ! I am in trance when I listen to this majestic music. Really happy to see them together.
I've got nothing to say its all here. Hats off to UA-cam for bringing us one of the best videos every. This is a keeper.
i could not wipe this smile off my face
Legendary riffs from legendary guitar heroes...
The best metal guitar duo on this fucking planet! Heavy Metal Legends! Tears in my eyes...
These guys are legends! Their riffs and solos are out of this world, man!
You guys are the best song writers and guitarist in metal.
There’s not many guitarist that can play mercyful fate songs.
You guys and Andy are the best.
Best Guitar Duo of All Time👍
*Legends & my idols, I wish there was a Don't Break The Oath part 2, King Diamond's Fatal Portrait* *sounds like Don't break the Oath without the power and hypnosis of this true Heavy Metal classic by* *Mercyful Fate. When people compare bands like Ghost to Mercyful Fate I feel like throwing up.*
Yes!!!! Thank you very much for posting this!!!!
Straight up eargasm!
I'll never forget the Mississippi nights shows in St.louis..
You really are gods. Both of you. And King Diamond too of course. Thank you for everything you've done, that's beautiful!
The complexity & beautiful playing of both of these Legends, Mr Denner & Mr Sherman, back in 84, made Eddie VH seem like such a small blip on the radar. Everybody tapping tapping Eruption, & I'm moving the turntable needle back again & again, to learn to play all the Melissa & Oath solo's. Thank you both, (&KD), for all the wonderful music you've created. \m/
Amazing they said what I thought for the longest time. Dont Break The Oath is such a brilliantly written song.
Metal legends! I've been a fan since 1983! Epic!
Thank you both. That was awesome.
ohhh god thank ! it's so good to hear you again
This just made me smile!
One of the best twin guitar attack duos of all time 🤘🏼💪🏼👊🏼
Still amazing in 2022. Still jam both albums at least once a week, but usually more
Goosebumps as To one far away plays....
EPIC STILL MY FAVORITE ALBUM 30 YEARS LATER
Thank you, Dark Masters, for this.
That album and melissa are The metal Riff School!!! I never get tired of hearing those two and learned a lot about playing guitar just by playing on top of those records:D.... Thanks a lot!!! :D

It's really time to for comeback tour \m/
I have always been amazed at how the guitar work and the vocals on this album worked together. Just listening to you guys play I can actually "hear" the vocals. I loved this album when it came out and I actually still listen to it regularly. Thanks for doing this guitar only version!
Two of my favorite guitarists and influences!
You guys were progressive metal before there was prog metal, you have meant very much to me in my appreciation of music...

The beginning of Night Of The Unborn (howling, wolf growling, playing guitar) is the most interesting and best moment on the album.

My ole man cant like this enough 🎉
Two of the most underrated guitarist and my heroes/inspiration on me as a musician.
Its their fault humanity's music peaked in the 80's, who could ever achieve more?
Remember me good old high school time, listening métal albums one after another🤟
Gypsy and Welcome Princes of Hell are the best riffs in the world
THIS really made my evening!!! Watching Hank and Michael re-create the magic of those heavy riffs and solos from that album. Two of my favorite guitar duo's. Thumbs up!
GREAT!
What a joy that they did this for us! Thanks a lot guys! I met Hank Sherman in Dallas at a benefit for a dude who died in a car wreck, it waqs at Panteras titty bar. I was like, yes!
And for the second time... REALLY GOOD!!! I ENJOYEEED!!!
Learning to play guitar, I always played songs like "A Dangerous Meeting" and "Desecration Of Souls" following the album versions... definitely.
Well I was... 16-17 by the way. And in my school diary, I drew the devil on the cover, from what I remember.
Great music my idols for ever you and Michael Denner.
i remember when i first listened to the oath, i was mesmerized, thank you Hank and Michael for bringing back memories of the good old days...
"Gypsy" has always been my favorite off this album. Easily, one of the greatest guitar duos of heavy metal here.
Easily the best metal album of the 80's \m/
