I have this digital piano and I love it. I got it from my parents for Christmas one year! I play by ear and don't use music. Not sure how to read music. I write songs too using my piano. I've written 98 songs. Been writing songs since I was 12 years old! I'm 23 now.
Thanks for giving a comprehensive demo of this unit. Especially the idea one can get more than the 10 factory sounds by hooking keyboard up to software
Truly fantastic tutorial, you hit all the major points and showed a great range of music, tones and features in a timely manner. Keep up the outstanding work, that was a pleasure. I also may be buying this tonight, it's on sale at musiciansfriend :)
Thank you so much! This really helped me understand the CDP 130 a lot better and I now know how to do a few things that I didn't know that I could do, considering I didn't really understand the manual. So thank you this has greatly helped!

Amazing review! I was just wondering if the “damper pedal” in the back panel of the piano can be use to connect a sustain pedal. Would you please let me know? Thank you so much!
Can you make a tutorial on how you set it up as a MIDI, cause I use that usb cable logic recognises the piano as a midi but it won’t let me change sounds :(
Is there a feature for a beat without the MIDI? Like a drum beat in the background? Or even with the metronome? I think there is something i cant find and ive had this thing since 2016 or 2017
I'm thinking of getting one of these. How do you think it stacks up against the Yamaha pianos? I thought I read somewhere that Yamaha uses more samples per key than Casio pianos. Also, what did you think of it as a MIDI controller?
Larry Wilson Hey Larry - sorry for the late reply. I'm not really familiar with the Yamaha pianos. This one uses sample - banks. Most of the other pianos in the casio line (as well as Roland, Yamaha, Korg...) use physical modeling technology and/or a combination of sample / physical modeling. In my opinion, it'll do the trick if you're starting out and on a budget, but you're going to want something else by the time you're tackling Rachmaninoff or Chopin.
Dave Chick Thanks. I'm so far away from Chopin. Hell, I'm so far away from "Chopsticks" :) I started playing 30+ years ago. I took piano lessons on and off for 2 1/2 years, and I'm looking at really getting serious about playing, since I'm more or less a "hunt-and-peck" player now :)
How do you think the speakers gonna perform for daily practice in a small bedroom? Is it loud and clear enough? I'm a semi-intermediate keyboardist (been playing 61-keys for about nearly 10 years) and thinking about upgrading my Piano skills on an 88-keys
Kawai, Casio and Yamaha all use multi layered sampling. The Roland supernatural line uses a mix of sampling and modelling and the v-piano is the only want to feature complete modelling.
It seems to have noisy action. Been pointed out elsewhere. I'm looking at this piano because it's supposed to have a heavier action, more like acoustic. Dunno, not keen on the noisy action, I'm particularly ham fisted. Don't remember my old Roland being noisy...
Martoon the microphone to record my voice was placed directly behind the keyboard and picked up a lot of the mechanical noise while playing. It’s been years since this was made but I don’t recall the keyboard being any more noisy than any other out there
between Casio CDP-130 and the cheapest privia, how much the difference is? i know privia is more expensive, but does it worth it for a beginner? thanks
Hi Dave, can you please advise - I am just about to buy this piano but I'm very stressed that they keys feel too heavy - some people say that. Was it your observation too? I'm a beginner so wouldn't like to go for a piano that requires more force. Thanks a lot!
+J. D. Gambín I didn't think they were 'too' heavy, just a bit heavier than other digital pianos. I have actually returned it because I've tried a Casio Celviano in store and fallen in love with it. Returned the CP130 and bought Casio Celviano AP460 which is so much better (cp130 felt like a plastic toy compared to celviano). Also, CP130 sounded very digital, sound quality was just too poor.
Do you mean CDP 130? The one in the video? I thought it was nice, sound quality sounded nice to me. What do you mean by a plastic toy? Are the keys made up of plastic or ivory? Is there any problem with the keys?
The bottom line is It depends what you compare it to. If you compare it to some cheaper digital pianos it will look okay. I've quickly realised it sounded and felt too clunky and plastic-y, and that the sound was just bad and very digital, flat. Having said that, it will be fine for a beginner with not a very trained ear but if you can afford something better, go for it. I've returned it and bought Casio Celviano AP460.. which I sold after 6 months because I wasn't happy with it either (the key action was very loud and loose, even though everything else was brilliant). Now I will be looking to buy a Yamaha Clavinova. If you tried Casio CDP130 in store and you liked it, I'd say you won't find anything better in this price range.
Hm, all the reviews i read about CDP 130 were positive. This is the first negative im seeing. I can afford MAXIMUM $500 at most. What do you suggest is the best portable digital piano i can buy at amazon.in (.in, not .com) for $500 or less? $500 = ₹30000 on the site.
Would you recommend this piano for MIDI use? I have multiple good sample libraries and I want to use them instead of samples from the device itself. I also have another MIDI keyboard, but the it's not so good for playing.
Man.. is this keyboard weighed (heavy) close like a real piano? I Want to buy it but it doesn't say anything at the description on the website! Thanks!

Hey @FranTheMusicLegend what would you recommend me? Casio CDP-130 or Yamaha p45? I've been thinking about it but I can't decide. Wich has the best sound? Thank you!
its like comparing coke and pepsi pretty much. I haven't tried the yamaha p45 but a pianist that worked in a music store told me that the casio cdp 130's lower notes sound better. The only reason you should get the yamaha over the casio piano is having 12 more notes of polyphony. I own the Casio CDP-130. I got a used one off amazon and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
