Thank you from a beginner like myself for such a great video. Been looking for an honest review and a good sound example. I will definitely buy this one after hearing you play for us :)
Yo your review really helped me out. I was unsure about this keyboard but I'm glad you put up a good review, for some reason keyboard reviews on YT are trash. Thanks a lot, my guy!
I'm considering buying one of these used, and this review was very helpful. Nine out of then keyboard reviews seem to be pretty useless, without any actual testing done. You did a nice job in giving me the picture what this piano is like in use. Thanks!
The key is to buy it. Get a plug in vst on your laptop like native instruments, keyscape or sunday sounds. Use midi and have it sound and feel like a real piano bc the keybed is weighted.
Thank you for this review, I own the piano and also made a review video of it myself (on my channel). I agree with practically everything you said. Very good review.
When I See you play the Casio here with the default piano sound, then see the VST videos where you play using the Grandeur VST, I'm blown away how a cheap digital piano can sound so good simply from a sound sample. I think the Casio will be my first piano purchase
@2:05 - I'm confused by his statements. He's saying the keys are heavy, but then he mentions the bass/lower notes are "not as heavy" and the treble/higher notes are "not as light". "The keys are heavier. It makes it a great practice piano. This results in little gentle scaling, it's not as heavy on the [bass], it's not as light on this [treble] side. However, it's very very heavy in keys."
Bravo. Well done. I would have liked a brief audition of the various voices/sounds and to know the weight of the keyboard, but oh well. All in all a good review. Thanks.
There are a few audio modes to consider when mentioning the quality of audio. Three or more amplifiers 1) headphones, 2) speakers (all slabs pretty much just offer up a basic solution) and line out. I have a primitive Yamaha that has meh headphones and speakers, but line out is very good. One thing I found about digital slabs is the action - if you press down completely slow and soft, does it sound? This is a problem to me moving between acoustic and digital keyboards. Until recently, the actions of keyboards play a sound no matter how slowly soft you play, which was making me inadvertently lazy. Gave me problems playing diminuendos, etc. on acoustic pianos.
I have the CDP-135 but cannot seem to find the stand that goes with it anywhere (at least one that will ship to the US at a reasonable rate). The model i think it needs is the CS-44P. I even spoke directly to Casio and they couldn't help me. I already have two metal stands, but looking specifically for the wooden stand that is compatible with the CDP-135. If anyone has any info or ideas, let me know!
Thx for the review. I'm in the market to buy a digital piano AS A MIDI controller. One question, as a MIDI controller is the USB port bus-powered or you need to plug in the power adapter as well. thanks.
How do you think the speakers gonna perform for daily practice in a small bedroom? Is it loud and clear enough? I'm a semi-intermediate keyboardist (been playing & gigging with 61-keys for about nearly 10 years) and thinking about upgrading my Piano skills on an 88-keys
You said that the key action is very good, probably better than some mid-price digital pianos. I don't care much about the internal sound generator, I already have a license for Pianoteq for Mac and CMP Grand Piano for iPad, so I can get REALLY good piano sounds when connected through midi, or use as a standalone piano when the kids want to practice. Will I get all key dynamics from this Casio? The more expensive Casios have a tri-sensor on the keys but I don't know what this means and if I'll miss anything from a model that doesn't have a triple sensor on the keys. And how does this Casio compare to the Alesis Recital Pro at the exact same price in shops? In paper, the Alesis has better speakers, 128 notes polyphony and 2-layering for voices (for those who use it as standalone unit), and is a brand that actually makes keyboards and not calculators.
Thanks very much for this review! Really thorough and insightful. It's helped my decision making on buying a piano for my daughter :) On the subject of the quality of sound - would you be able to get a grand piano sound by using it as midi controller on an audio editing software program like Logic?
And there is no on/off switch for speaker when headphone output is connected to an amp. Yamaha sometimes has this option - very important because if you're connected by a direct box to the house PA you can't hear yourself unless you carry an extra amp. In other words, external speakers are always silent when headphone/output jack is being used.
Thoughts on the Korg B1? I want to buy a portable piano to use for rehearsals and want it to be fairly loud as I'm playing in a band... Other than the Korg B1 I'm considering the casio cdp130 or even the Rolan GO61K. What are your thoughts? Thankya
Hi, first of all let me say: great video and thank you! Finally a straight-to-the-point review with real life experience. Do you think that this model is really that far behind the PX160? I heard that the keys, sound and overall feel are greatly improved on the PX, but I don't have really any idea of how much.
Thanks for the honest review. You nailed it. I picked one up used yesterday for about $200 and it’s an excellent midi controller for my Ravenscroft or Pure piano plugins. Just a great playing experience but yeah…. By itself it does not sound very good.
Hi! Looking for my first digital piano so this was a great video, thanks! A question though: should I pay extra for a piano that has the option of three pedals? Or will I, as a beginner, be ok with "just" a sustain pedal? I mean you play all this beautiful music with one pedal, right?
If I remember correctly, digital piano can simulate ONLY ONE pedal. Three pedal options are only there for esthetics. I have 3 pedal, but only the far right (sustain) pedal works. And yes, before I switched to my new piano, I only used one pedal. Hoped this helps and thanks for your comment!
Thank you for the video! I want to buy one digital piano and this one looks really good. I'll start to learn how to play, do you recommend this one to me? I have almost no experience with piano
Hello! I have but 1 question, if you could awnser please. So I just got the exact casio you are using, set it up with FL studio via USB (not sure if its 1.0, 1.3 or 2.0 speed and if it even matters) and I got some noticable latency, whenever I press the key the sound comes out like ~0.1 sec later... So I can't play properly. I tried tweaking some settings in the program but nothing helped, have you experienced the same? Should I maybe just switch to the Kontakt app and get some free VST's (If there are any decent VST sounds). Or do I need the usb 2.0 ?
Sir,when you connect it to ur pc, and want to use it as a controller, do the speakers automatically turn off?Or does it at least have a volume controller?Any answers will be much appreciated!
Hey, will the audio quality be alot better if you plug-in headphones or something? I mean are you saying that the speakers of the piano are crappy or is more internal that even with headphones the audio is crappy?

aniket kadam Tough choice. Yamaha p115 has better sound signature, but Casio px160 has better key action. Me, I would choose 160 over 115 just because I like the keys better on it. But Yamaha may result better out of box experience.

Hello Jun Jung. I am wanting to change the Keyboard of my church, and was wondering if the Casio CDP 120,130,135 are good for church?

Cable for CDP 130 is defaulted to USB 2 speed.
Can you connect ampli?
can we use it as a midi controller?
I've seen both Casio CDP-130 BK and Casio CDP-130 SR, what is the difference between the two?
They both are same except for color. BK is black, SR is silver.
Anyone knows which is better?
The new CDP s100 or the PX 160?
Considering they are at the same price now

Check out my VST & Logic Pro tutorial!

Piano and PC controls are separate. Even if you plug it in to PC, piano speaker will still produce sound.
Could you please tell me what headphone jack does this keyboard use? Is it a 6.3mm? Because I'm afraid that my 3.5mm headphones wont work. Thanks!
Not sure with what mm it is, but this one does have 1/4 inch jack for audio.
Very good recommendation
Hey, will the audio quality be alot better if you plug-in headphones or something? I mean are you saying that the speakers of the piano are crappy or is more internal that even with headphones the audio is crappy?
