not to be that guy but if a penny were to get crushed at a angle it would get shot out at high speed so probably don't do that if you still do witch you probably don't.
When I was young I put a 20 cents (Rappen in Switzerland) coin onto a track. The weight deformed it to a 2 dollar (2 Franken in Switzerland) coin. Yeah, it was thinner for sure, but the vending machine at the station identified it as a 2 dollar piece (at that time it was only size that counted, I guess) and so I could buy something more expensive for only 20 cents ;-)

@@face_therealitypfft, everyone knows that! But when the trains break the eggs they have the instinct to walk back and eat those eggs, and this can cause derailments
It's really weird that a train can't flatten a simple nut... anyways, Never do that when the train is moving fast because there's a major risk of derailing. I remember when I was a student, we used to have fun placing coins on the train tracks when the train arrived at the station. Once the train departed, we would retrieve them, and they were incredibly flattened and oval-shaped!!!
The wheel load actually is not that extreme. It's 11 ton in Europe and up to 15 ton in some American freight trains. Even a small hydraulic press easily does 10 times more and the bigger ones do real crazy stuff.
People dont realize the weight of the train isnt focused on one axle - if a dieseltrain weighs about ~100tons, the force on one axle is much lower. And that "simple" nut could hold much higher forces
It actually is. Back in 2019/2020 a 3 car light rail train was operating north of Dallas, TX. It had flat spots on the 2nd car. The flats shook the flange lubricator loose (the company never secured them properly), and it broke off and went under the wheel. Lifted it over the rail and derailed that car and the trailing 3rd car as well. The lead LRV didn't derail which is why those 2 cars got dragged at 65 mph all the way to near end of the line. You will see in the video that metal spring/coil lifted the wheel off and back onto the track. That is what happened. A train hit a truck in downtown many years ago. The TSS fell off the cow catcher and lodged between the runway light and the front axle. It lifted the axle over the rail and derailed it. So it really depends on the width/length of the object and how sturdy it is. If you put a metal stick on the track, it may cause a minor derailment.
@@shadowfightarena2196 I actually meant this as sarcasm but looks like I forgot a winky face. I'll fix it. But with small objects like this, it is hard to derail a locomotive.

This is even better than the hydraulic press channel! Had to immediately press like when he started stroking that pipe :D I wonder what the people who left dislikes had to say, couldn't find any negative comments at all. Stop erasing them! :|
Maybe not! Depends on the metal that the nut is made of. Even the common freight train would hit it, and probably it would shoot out like a projectile like this train did! Making it dangerous!
So that's why there's so many derailments lately. 😂 I mushed a mess of Hotwheels & Matchbox cars as a kid. It was hard finding the remains. Especially where the train was hauling ass.
