ABOUT ME: My name is Krystle Cole. I have a Master's degree in psychology. I'm a serial entrepreneur, having supported myself entirely through my small businesses since 2006. I'm a published author. I'm also currently a full-time professional artist and have been for the last 8 years. I sell my art online, at large art festivals throughout the midwest, and for several years I had a brick-and-mortar art gallery at a mall in Wichita, KS.

Great video! As a puzzler, and someone who frequently looks at artwork and thinks, "this would be fantastic as a puzzle," it was interesting to listen to your experience. There definitely were some surprises that made sense, i.e. once you mentioned the difference between cat and dog customers, my reactions was, "of course!" I think you hit the nail on the head with your comments around the missing intel about the puzzling market. I believe that a talented artist who has, or who can find, this info has the potential to be successful in the puzzle world, but you don't know what you don't know until you know it, right? So kudos to you for sharing your experience with others so they can benefit from it. I also really appreciated your insight on what customers want, and the nuances of that which can lead to less sales instead of more. Your ability to analyze and identify what worked and what didn't is skillful. I also wanted to make sure to compliment you on your art. It is so gorgeous, and I understand completely why your customers knew your images would make amazing puzzles! There are a lot of specific things that drive the puzzling market that for a non-puzzler probably look pretty quirky, and maybe even inscrutable! I wish you great success with your very obvious talent!

Hi Thanks for this video. you provided a lot of very useful information. I'm an artist who is just starting an Etsy store and looking at what product lineup to print my art onto. Thanks again.
With POD you can offer to do custom puzzles. Have the person send you a picture of their pet and you send them a puzzle. Of course, all you do is upload the pic to the POD company and have them print it. Etsy has puzzles. Redbubble has puzzles. I'm not sure who else does, but those are two POD companies that can do that for you. They're not expensive, and people will pay more for personalized products. You can even add the pet's name or some other text for an extra fee, or for free. That's up to you.

You should research a glowforge you can make your own puzzles it's like a desktop CNC laser cutter

Terrible idea. Puzzles are cut with metal blades for a reason. Lasers will just burn it and leave a charred mess that no one will buy
I am one of the picky ones when it comes to puzzles and if I really like a puzzle, a £10 price difference wouldn't make me not buy it.
And I also love cats, so... lol
Your art is charming and pretty. But NO! Those aren’t small puzzle pieces! People who like puzzles want them to be challenging. Print on demand is expensive, and the difficulty of producing product and making a decent margin is pretty hard. This is true in all of the types of merch that are imprinted and sold very little profit! Also true in publishing. Too many creators not enough consumers. The puzzles sold in big stores are printed in BULK tens of thousands brings the unit cost way down and makes the proposition doable if not super profitable. Also many are printed in China and we can’t compete with cheap. It’s just economics. Artists and creative have a hard time with that. Ask me how I know.
I know you say that most people want smaller puzzle pieces than the ones I show in the video, but a lot of of my customers actually complained that my puzzle pieces were too small on the first round of puzzles I got (which are the ones I showed in this video). So not sure....
Thank you, this was really helpful. I was thinking about using puzzlesunlimited as well and found your video when googled what the quality of the puzzles was hoping to find someone who had used them. You reckon the quality is good? Just asking because I'm quite fussy about the quality of the jigsaws that I do and didn't want to go for a company who would give me something substandard.
I thought they were normal quality for jigsaw puzzles that I’ve had my artwork printed on. They were similar to Printful. Although I’ve had wood puzzles made that were better quality. But for cardboard jigsaw puzzles, I thought they were good.
