6 Best Print on Demand Websites for Artists to Sell Art Prints Online!

- Which POD website should you use? Turns out this choice is actually one of the most important decisions you will make because it’s one of those things that will impact your business every single day going forward. On top of that choosing the wrong one can result in not having a business at all because not all businesses are possible on all platforms. You cannot build a fine art business and become a renowned fine artists collaborating with high end art galleries using RedBubble for example.
All 6 of them:
POD (with marketplace on the website):
1/2) Redbubble & Saatchi art
3) Fine art America
POD (without marketplace | best ones)
-) Finerworks (fine artists)
-) Printful (illustrators & fine artists)
-) LuLuXpress (catalogus & art books)

...ly stupid.
I feel like a lot of the specifics in your videos are so accurately geared towards us artists. You wonderfully cover those who may want to do illustrations but also those artists that focus on fine arts (like myself). You also mention how goals such as eventually buying your own printer can be of more value to you later on as an artist. In making your art your business getting this sort of information is so valuable because these are the real details and specifics in running your business that artists actually need. These are the sort of things I wish I would have had offered to me to learn in College. Thank you for your insight and information. It is so appreciated.
That's exactly how I feel Tayler. I didn't have anyone explaining this to me back in the days, that's why I made this channel. Glad I could help
Finally. Someone who is not only capable of joined up thinking, but is able to put those thoughts across without meandering their way to a conclusion.
hahah, thanks for your kind words. Appreciated.
Thank you so much. Trying to figure this out was threatening to overwhelm me. You helped so much!!
You are so welcome!
Ps: Just featured your comment on my Insta.
Im an illustrator with a fine Art background and you've really added to my research in how I'm getting into this field as artist and im truly greatful
Yes I agree, I like the idea of doing it myself because I think signing our work as artists is very important. That way we can also have control over the amount of prints we do. I suppose if we did use a printing service we could do limited edition that way too and get them delivered to us and then sign them individually and send them out. That would be a good first step to getting a printer and keeping control over our art prints.
Thanks for another great video.
You're welcome. Letting them send to you is indeed a good option if you are not able to make the initial investment but want to have the ability to sign your prints.
I agree, I think it looks more professional in the long run too. I asked some of my non artist friends if they were to buy my work would it be a hassle to click on a link that brought them off my portfolio website? Many said yes it would because then you have to make a separate account and may get distracted by all the other work on that site. If someone wants to buy something from your shop, they shouldn’t have to be re routed to other websites to do so if that makes sense.
I like your idea of buying limited prints though and sending it to yourself to resell. That’s the one thing that worries me with POD, I can’t really personalize stuff with a thank you note or a special message.
Amazing video man. Very informative. Appreciate you taking the time to make this. PS loving that hair.
Glad you enjoyed it! The hair loves you back Vasko.
Thank you, sir! Exactly what I was searching to learn.
Just half way thru this vid Dries & have got so much value already. Excellent information; many thanks! Stay well 🙏🏻😃

That's very kind thanks.
The Guru! Cuz there's not any other Artist like him talking about these topics 👩🏾💻
Thnx Berynnice, you're the best.
True there aren't any other artist like him but there are other artist in general who talk about these topic but most don't because they are promoting their own channels or work.

Dries, I smashed the LIKE button. If I'm going to have a printer at home (I'm an illustrator) and I'd like to use nice paper and all that, perhaps a video on what kind(s) of printer(s) to buy? Yes? Please say yes. Keep 'em coming! You inspire me and give me hope that I might actually manage to sell something.
Artspan was the first provider of artist-specific websites, starting in 1999. We have been offering Prints-on-Demand since 2006. We also have a super AR Live Preview feature... allows buyers to view artwork - at scale - in their own homes. Finally, all of our individual ecommerce sites are integrated into our Art Marketplace which shows on page 1 (google results) for "Art Marketplace." Our pricing is under that of any other provider (and we offer more).
It's very important to hear different perspectives on things. Thanks for your comment Artspan!
I find you 2 weeks ago. Your content is awesome. Thanks.
Excellent... lots of helpful info! It is interesting you seem to indicate with all the other reviews here that doing your own prints so you can sign them, bringing more value to them, may be the best option artistically... I was thinking that was likely as I see people do all the print of demand stuff. I had been wondering if there was any way the artist are getting them signed and it seems not then. Glad I was thinking the right way on that. I will probably go my own printing route... I'm just starting out really, incl on the website issue (for which i just made my last vlog). I guess i just need to finish my website 1st, then i can move on to how i want to do the prints.
Happy to hear I was able to help George... Signing your prints is always the right choice indeed
Thank you for the list!

Good afternoon to those who smashed the like button.
I just destroyed the damn button !!
Thank you for the very useful information:)
@Richardd marzann no good afternoon for you! But you get a good morning. Ok?
I appreciate your honest and straight forward knowledge. Thank you! I was curious to know your input on “ Art Store front”? For prints they push it hard but they also charge a nice chunk? 😊
Absolutely LOVE the very fist line you say 😀
Allthough I sold a few pieces by a POD with marketplace, I also sold some myself, ordering it at a POD, being able to check it and sign it, and then send it. Takes some extra time, but also some extra real contact-moments with customers....
Interesting process sending it to yourself first.
Great information, it is good that you present analytics as maybe a new way for artists to think beyond the creative aspect that is also beneficial to themselves. I dont know if youve in the past covered licensing agreements, but it is something Im looking into as a long term goal. 👍🏽
Glad it was helpful! No I didn't cover licensing agreements yet. But that's definitely a good video idea.

OMG your hair. I love it.
Hi Dries,
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the quality of fine art paper that you receive through Printful?
I have a conflict about selling on redbubble and other pod sites because I went there planning to just provide prints of my paintings, but now they are on t shirts, mugs, shower curtains....I worry that it cheapens my fine art.
Printers are so expensive and having to change ink wells and stuff....some artists use local printers. But with corvid...
I just found your videos. They're great! Thank you.
same :( hope someone will answer this.
I don’t know about other sites… but on redbubble you can select what items you allow your art to be sold on.
@@Enaramosak I know but its tempting to put them on everything and I wonder if it devalues the art. But then I suppose the Mona Lisa is on everything too. Lol!
This is an awesome very informative video! Thank you! :-)
Very valuable information - much appreciated
You are more then welcome Chris.
@pedoneart finding your videos so helpful and informative, THANK YOU, I am slowly working through them all on a friends recommendation, your advice is like gold dust!
You are so welcome! Lovely to connect on IG with you as well.
Want people to get signed prints? Simply sign the artwork BEFORE you photograph it and send a digital copy to the printer.
A limited edition document can be easily sent separately in the mail from you, so you can still use POD services.
super useful - thank you

Best of luck! you can do this.
and thumbnail is also very beautiful
Thanks (my modest Photoshop skills haha 😂)
A most timely video. I do have one question as to printing your own prints and that is do you have a particular printer in mind? How large will it print, on what surfaces, permanent inks and best life span? Thanks . Really enjoy your videos, very informative.
very helpful. thanks. also, your hair is iconic, and I don't use that word loosely.
Thank you for all of your informative videos! I have learned so much!
What do you use to take photos of your artwork for print on demand services? Maybe a video idea? ✨🌟✨
You are so welcome! Maybe a video idea indeed... But I can already tell you the clue. It's a sony alpa 7 with a zeiss lens on top... My favourite camera by far.
Dries Ketels thank you!!! Does the size of the original artwork matter? Will it be distorted if you offer different print size options? Sorry for all the questions! I completely understand if you don’t reply
Cheers
No it doesn't just make sure that the print is not too much bigger then the original. Don't offer too many print size options try to stick to 1 or 2 sizes max. If you want to have a much smaller option just pick a different artwork that's smaller and offer a smaller print for that one.
Ps: I'm much more likely to reply on IG if you have any more questions in the future Leyla.
Dries Ketels ahhh!! Thank you for the advice! It’s awesome that you replied!
@@210leyla you're welcome Leyla, see you around
Very cool, from the onset
Thanks
I believe this is my 4th time watching this video through because of how much good information is here. I do wonder if you could ever make a video on how to integrate a print service on your website or how even to build your own website as a fine artist? (If you have that already I’m sorry I have yet to come across it!)
Makes me so happy to read your comment... I'm definitely thinking about making some website type of videos.
@@driesketels Good! I eagerly await such videos! :)
great video thank you
You are welcome .
Wow. Great info. Thank you! Just a word about printing it yourself and shipping it around the world. I'm about to ship three 12 x 12 inch prints from Toronto to Munich and the shipping cost is $90 CAD. It costs a lot to ship prints so always factor that in your pricing.
Great comment Eve... Important indeed
I make at least $30k every year with Saatchi, thanks to their curating team and marketing, so it aint dead for me😁
Wow that is some awesome stuff. But for most people including me, that will not happen because only a very small portion is benefiting from the things you mentioned. Often times people with certain connections.
How did it went for you? Did they started recommending your work/curating your work because of initial sales you had or ... ?
@@driesketels Thank you :) ! They're very random. what the curational team likes is what they push. My first sale was after including me in their winter catalog. If you can get into their catalog, then you have a winning case. They usually filter users by the view / favorites on their artworks, so this is really based on real feedback of others first!
Thanks!
Thank you KerryMellet
your video and hair are awesome
Thank you so much 😀
what do you think about Vsual?
Thank you so much very helpful. I just self published a journal featuring my art work on cover. I am interested in creating and self publishing coloring books for adults do you suggest Lulu instead of Ingram Sparks I. Terms of quality? Thank you for your insights!
I don't know about Lulu... I guess I'm behind on the new things. Test both out and see which one works best for you.
Thanks brother
You are more then welcome James and thanks for taking the time to write such a wonderful comment.
What about digital art? What do you recommend?
When you write recommended websites, do you think you could edit the words into the video? Just a thought. Btw super helpful. Ive been selling my art behind the scenes, email and DMs, which has worked very well for me but have been contemplating how to strategize sales online in a time efficient way for a larger audience. I like your points but still not sure what to do ahaha. I'm a quality freak and I like to sign and give personalized experience so I might end up doing it the hard way. It's a marathon not a sprint so I guess every decision counts in the long run. Thanks for sharing!!
What do you mean with 'edit the words into the video'?
@@driesketels it's just a suggestion :) I mean when you mention a website or company, just write in in the clip as you mention it? One of the companies you mentioned, I didn't hear so well as you said it, I think it makes it easier for people that don't know of the sites. Just a thought! :)
You're totally right... you see that's what I meant with your editing skills. I don't pay enough attention to the editing part of it all haha 😂 I wrote it in the description just now. Hope that helps.
@@driesketels that works!! Ahaha I thought id just point it out since I know I like constructive feedback myself x) your content is so gripping tho!! I'll get better with that. Still getting used to talking to myself on camera 😂. But I'm slowly getting a better hang of it ✨
You're going to get there quickly. I can feel it.
I feel that SaatchiArt is not a POD service like Fine Art America? Saatchi seems to be more centered around originals. Do they print?
Oh they are most definitely not a POD service and are more oriented towards originals indeed. But they have a POD service as well
Hello Dries, thank you for the video. You mentioned "certificate of authenticity as a "plus" for Fine Art Works. Do you have an opinion or a video about registering fine art as a NFT Non-Fungal Token? Supposedly this is a way to ensure the authenticity and exclusive identity of digital art works in a way similar to a physical limited edition run.
I have several videos on NFTs for artists. Check them out and let me know if you have any questions.
@@driesketels Thank you!

Great information what do you think about Etsy by itself or combined with printful
I have a video planned about Etsy coming soon.
Depends on what you sell on those platforms. What would you sell?
Thank you 👀 it now😁
I'll have some of what he is having
Whaaaaaat? hahaha
So how much would a printer cost? Then there's the inkk costs!! I think it's the best idea though because I don't like a third party idea, loss oof control, profits etc.
More control but more work. Good luck Daniel.
I just clicked on your website link and got a message saying it may not be your actual site because your certificate expired 14 days ago. Hard to drive traffic to a website that may not be secure. Please let me know when this is fixed. I really want to see the art that you do.
I really enjoyed this video and the one other that I found first. The problem is you speak so quickly and with a bit of an accent so I found it somewhat difficult to absorb some of what you were saying. I guess I will need to watch it several times. Works for me.
I just opened a fine art America account and the customer services is horrible. I'm a abstract artist and I need high quality prints to get the details of my paintings. I don't think they are able to deliver.
Why do you not think they are able to deliver?
Have you ever checked out artbeatstudios.com? I’ve tried a few and the quality is state-of-the-art! You should check the out! They’re out of California
No I didn't check them out yet. I will
The hair knows all.
The man tells all.
hahaha😂
Haha so true
Which print on demand company do you suggest for a new artist in India who need more sales?
Have you seen my other videos on POD I answer that question in one of the other vids.
Ancient Aliens Hair :)
alien masterpiece. XD
Hey Dries, are you Dutch? I am. But okay. I appreciate your passionate story. However, you won't get customer data from POD shops. For that, you'll need to start your own website/webshop, sell your art, and collect email addresses by offering something valuable for free. If you, as an artist, have sufficient potential, finding a gallery to represent you isn't that difficult. But a gallery takes a significant commission... Segment your art - one part for the gallery, and another part turned into products for a POD shop. The 'unknown and lesser-known artist simply has a tougher time than a more well-known artist. It's about generating income. And selling through PODs is far from easy in terms of competition.
Your accent is beautiful but I am sorry I didn’t understand everything that was said. Maybe you could show the names on screen as you mention them for newbies like me? Thanks for sharing.
Ok next time, thanks for the feedback

Thank You!! 💖 I love Finer Works ~ I stopped the Video to DuckDuck Go them & They offer beautiful EcoHemp paper for Fine Paper Prints! I’ve created and sold prints all three ways limited editions I printed myself as well as had Fine Art America Print send to me and I approved the Print signed it and then shipped it to my Collector and also the straight Artist Shop selling of my Prints on Redbubble and FFA. Redbubble does a great of printing Art work also Collectors are very Happy with it and sent me pics on my FB Art Fan Page. But I do feel RB is more of a Graphic Arts site all in all. I’ve been researching POD Labs to find a replacement for FAA which I have been selling on for years~ As the Museum Quality of Prints & other products I’ve sold from there is excellent! Yet I do not like their Customer service~ I had one Collector of my Art tell me she would never buy on that site again!! She loves my Print~Noir Chalice~she bought on the Site but not FFA Customer Service. And she contacted me afterwards saying she will never order from the FFA again because of the poor customer service response to her & recommended I sell my Art directly. I am looking for a Nova Kiss Solution~Keep it Sweet Simple Soft & Sustainable ~🦋
Hope you'll find a Nova Kiss solution soon. Thanks for your review, I'm sure it will help some other artists out.

Could you list the six websites in your description? It was a little hard to follow what the six websites were.
That's a good idea Serina.
Dries Ketels Thank you so much!
you're welcome
Can anyone sell on fine art America just like redbubble?
I think so yes. Perhaps they have some kind of selection process but usually those selection processes are kind of fake and are sales tricks instead of actual selection processes. Saatchi art for example used to have a selection process (not sure if they still have that) but at the same time they allowed over 40.000 artists. I mean, not really a serious selection process if you ask me.
Lmao that intro 😭
The first sentence or?
My issue with printful is that their prices are so high :(
Yep that's a downside indeed.
FAA = "We've shipped over 1 million items worldwide for our 500,000+ artists. Each purchase comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee". So on average that is less than 2 sales per artist form beginning of Fine art America. In reality some artist sell something most have 0 sales.
Redbubble is horrible I've earned 10 cents from the illustrations I've worked so hard on. 😂 It's degrading and I felt honestly used.
That's too bad too hear. Sounds like you've had an experience similar to me with my recent Mona Lisa video... XD
