    I know you mentioned that you purchased everything on the video at the Home Depot.. would that also include the black plastic base where you screwed the post on the bottom of the barrel?

    Way to go guy! Night image looks beautiful. Never gave thought to freezing and thawing cycles of water. Like your drainage idea. Your anchor approach is useful BUT I'd be concerned about feet getting caught on protrusions especially at night...visitors, inebriated revelers and little kids. Slips, trips and falls are THE greatest cause of injuries at home.

    I used concrete blocks instead of filling with concrete. That way you have options to disassemble and change in the future.

    Completely eliminate planter boxes and pots. A much better approach is to buy 10' lengths of 1-1/4" PVC and cut it in 20" lengths. Then dig 18" deep holes in your yard where you want light posts to be located. Place one 20" length of PVC in each hole leaving about 2" to 4" above ground, then set concrete in each hole, let it dry and fill remaining part of each hole with soil. Then buy 1" diameter galvanized pipes or electrical conduit. On the top of each pipe/conduit drill a hole and screw in a metal hook (used for the light strings).. Then insert each pipe/conduit, which is already cut to your desired length, into each PVC pipe location. Then buy your desired LED light strings and start installing the strings nearest to an 120V outlet. This method is IMHO, the very best way. You can easily change your light configuration by adding of removing pipes/conduits. I have done three different homes and have received many compliments. BTW, you cN even use chainlink fence tubing which is 1-5/16" diameter x 6' length for the vertical pipes and 1-1/2" PVC pipe if you desire more strength.

    if you connected a canopy from house to posts to provide shade during the summer months, do you think the posts would still hold up on a windy day? Looks great btw, thanks!

      @CentennialRenovation  2 роки тому

      Hello rtx125, Yes I think it would hold up. However, I would suggest using carabiner clips so you could quickly remove the canopy in the event of a BIG storm. Also, if you live somewhere where you get a lot of snow I would probably take the canopy down in the winter because the snow load might be too much.

    Where did you get the black plastic drain pan placed under barrel?

    What is the smallest wood barrel (dimension wise) you think can be used with those post anchors?

    Also, did the stones provide sufficient sturdiness to any movement of the posts in wind?

    • @CentennialRenovation
      @CentennialRenovation  Рік тому +1

      The stones provide enough weight to hold it to the ground. But you're going to want to mechanically anchor the post of the ground to ensure that it doesn't move.

    Did you put anything else on the top of the rocks after for additional weight? Such as potting soil or sand?

      @@companyman6208 We put potting soil on top and planted flowers.

    What is the barrel standing on? I love this idea instead of the concrete.
    Also where did you get the anchor for the posts?

      I didn't want the water draining on my patio so I used water heater pans under the barrel to make sure the water would drain to the pan and then off the patio. This step is not necessary if you don't care about the dirty water draining directly under the planters. Also not shown, I used shims to raise the backside of the planter about 1/8 inch off the bottom of the water heater pan so that water wouldn't get trapped under the planter. Everything in this video was purchased at Home Depot.

      Hi after looking at several videos I'm going with your way of making these post.
      I'm trying to find the anchor gadget for the post you used that went from the post to down in the ground.
      Can you tell me what's the name of these items? Is it a kit?

    What size posts did you use? 8 or 10 ft? Cedar? Curious if 10 ft would hold up

    Hi, where did you get the drain pan used underneath the wood barrel for draining no the water? Did you do anything special to keep the wood planter intact. I read it online somewhere and said if the wood planter dried up the rings will slip down and the thing will fall apart. That would take several years/decades but I didn’t find the solution yet. Thank you

    • @CentennialRenovation
      @CentennialRenovation  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching! The drain pan is just a water heater drain pan that I got at home Depot. I did not do anything special to the barrels. We watered the plants in our barrels which I would think will keep the barrels from drying out.

    That looks great. Do you mind sharing where you got those planters from? They look a lot sturdier than I've seen in the big box stores.

      I purchased the planters from Home Depot believe it or not. They are real wine barrels. This is the best time of year to find them because they are getting all the gardening stuff out. I often see that Home Depot carries Jack Daniel's Whiskey barrels too.

      They are called Earth Anchors. Those were actually purchased at Murdoch's with the original project (the one that failed). However, if you search amazon for Earth Anchors and buy the longest ones you can find you will be good to go. Something like this: www.amazon.com/MTB-Anchor-Painted-Fencing-Canopies/dp/B01MUZ9CLL/ref=sr_1_5?crid=J6VPRFUH8OCX&keywords=earth%2Banchors&qid=1650595860&sprefix=earth%2Ban%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-5&th=1
