Hello. We are vacationing in Cancun from Sunday to Friday from Dallas, Texas. We'll (have to) deal with the rain, but are high winds a concern? We're nervous. Thanks!
There will be a fresh wind each day along the coast, but nothing to strong (outside the thunderstorms) that may move through. -Rusty
Barbados sunny humid hot hazy condition
Yeep had nice down poor in Belmopan Belize
Hi Rusty what is causing the excessive amounts of lightning strikes with these storms
Great question. In this particular setup, it’s the Central American gyre producing high levels of instability, while lifting a tremendous amount of tropical moisture high into the atmosphere. This allows for the heavy tropical downpours and the intense lightning around that broad spin. -Rusty
You haven’t mentioned anything about the Saharan dust coming off of Africa and heading west. According to our local weather guy, he said that the Saharan dust prohibits the development of any tropical wave and that we don’t have anything to worry about as far as development is concerned until around early July.
Hi. I have to push back on you comment a bit. In todays video, I verbally mentioned the areas that would see haze (dust) this weekend. In yesterday’s video, I went into greater detail showing a 10-day loop of the Saharan dust and discussed how that will suppress rain chances as the next two waves enter the Caribbean. I won’t always go into great detail on the dust in every video (can’t extensively cover every ongoing weather feature every day) but I monitor it daily. This time of year, any tropical development is typically closer to home anyway. Western Caribbean, far west Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico are the primary development areas. -Rusty
