Aashiqui 1 was extremely popular, so much so that the movie was a smash hit just because of the songs. I never watched the film, but the songs were a rage, and I was smitten by them, and if you are a Kumar Sanu fan, you'll love the songs; those songs made him a singing superstar.

I think you should watch it. It is a very raw and trivial love story but still ahead of its time and relatable even today. You'll love it if you ignore the acting which is not that bad actually for newcomers!!☺️🙏

Himesh Reshamiya was a rage in mid to late 2000's..His few songs were insanely popular..
To be honest most of songs from that album I have never even heard but some of the songs were so popular that the album became all time popular..

Build the context: Economic liberation in India started in 1991 and Internet access to the general public started in India in 1995. So, people now had access to gadgets tat played music and money to buy them. Hence you will find CD and Cassette sales at their peak in the 90s. By the 2000s, we discovered the mp3 format and Napster, Kaaza, and other music-sharing widgets.
Himesh is the exception as in the early 2000s, he got mass popularity with some 20-odd hits in a few years which he compiled on this particular Album.

No shit they are from the 90's when music was actually considered an art and too much importance was given to it considering the audience value. The days when movies had probably 8-9 songs easily and the cassettes were the thing!! All that slowly degraded and now music is going through the worst of times. No melody, lyrics and backstrory!! And Ashiqui was masterpiece!! There should be separate video be made for it actually!! It was actually a sensation as it was the pioneering albums of 90's melody age! And also too melodious and perfect. And Aap ka Saroor by Himesh wss a sansation too as it too was original and people never heard anything like it before. Himesh's music too was an ear popping and heart pumping moment that we lived and enjoyed in the 2000s.

DVDs and Blurays of Indian films are mostly uncut while OTT and UA-cam films are cut a lot, missing important scenes. It is always good to check the original running time.

In the 90s streaming did not exist. So, you bought an entire album if you liked one song. Radio was still popular and TV had Music countdown shows not to mention this was the era of dedicated music channels like MTV and Channel V. You had the same album blaring on tape players at every other shop or street corner and loud speakers in cars. It was difficult to escape the flavour of the season. (God bless you if it happened to be something that made you puke.) So, those of us who weren't babies in the 90s have good song recall for the era. This is also true for the generations that came before us. Infact they had easy access to lyric books for song albums and knew the songs by heart. May be that is why lyrics were better back then.
