It says on the documentary that Sterephonics hadn't heard of the reprise and thought that they were recording track one, so they learnt it ON the actual day.
Remember that they turned up thinking they'd be playing the intro. Then they found out they'd be playing the reprise. Nicely done- these lads can play!
Respect anyone having the balls to do Sgt Peppers (reprise)! I think they did an awesome version, whilst putting their own stamp on the track. Also they showed they had total respect for the Beatles, & as already stated, they made it their own! Nice one lads!!!
It's even more impressive when you realise they turned up at the studio having mistakenly practiced the opening track of the album. They had a short preparation and produced this. The link below (57:16) is the BBC program which aired the recordings and is a clearer version. Last line of the film "You're good ain't ya!" says it all. ua-cam.com/video/b-tMEFLgxso/v-deo.html
Stereophonics are massive Beatles fans and have done multiple Beatles covers before, they probably already knew how to do all of this album off by heart
Ringo was a very good drummer, he played very simple and accurate, perfect for the songs the beatles made, the drummer on this cover playes in a totally different way then a real beatle like Star
I think your wrong dude. I was born in 1960, and because of my older sisters i have been listening to the Beatles my whole life. And I still do, you can say I'm a huge fan. I'm also a guitar player. These guys did a great job on this song.
it was to celebrate an anniversary of Sergeant Pepper album - various bands recorded the songs on the original recording deck with the original producer - so they lay down tracks one after the other - guitars, singer, harmony, etc. There used to be a longer clip that told you more, but it's been removed.
he is playing, because the song has a rhythm and lead guitar part. However, some of this footage will have come from various stages of the recording, such as the backing vocals and percussion and suchlike. This isn't a video of a live performance, in other words.
@aSimulatedHigh this is the reprise of the track, it was featured at the end of the album. not to be a know it all but the lyrics and speed of the song are correct.
@LordBikeshed - A little-known fact: The Beatles used chord charts. When you're paying for studio time, you use every trick in the book to get it right the first time.
Yeah I remember they were going to do a different song (or maybe it was a different version of this song, I can't be sure) but there was a mix-up and another band did it so they were basically given this to sight read and I think this was their first time doing it properly.
2008 and those guys don't have the guts or the talent to create something different to the original version of the Beatles, where is the spirit of music? Music is FREEDOM!!! Boo off for Stereophonics. Best cover ever of Sgt. Peppers Jimi Hendrix.
obviously - they did it with the original equipment used on SGT pepper! - to celebrate the album, at the BBC. I love it! the whole album should come out as the covers are superb by all the bands!! NOT LAME - bawbag!
i don't want to sound like i don't appreciate the beatles, because i do. they are the greatest thing to happen in the world of music and i love them with all my heart, but in some ways this is better than the original. fantastic!
Sorry but these guys sound like a bunch of young amateurs compared to the Beatles. When you listen closely to the Beatles version it really is so very good in every respect - the amazing tightness the quality and the expressiveness of the vocals and the guitars as well as all the ad libbing. Nothing compares.
It was fifty years ago today In a scuzzy German caberét That the band aquired such a style it was guaranteed to drive us wild So let me thank Das Vaterland For nurturing a miracle Beatles then and Beatles evermore! Nice, faithful cover...the way it SHOULD be, despite the arsemaggots pewling otherwise. ;-)
funny how people are slaggin this off when they were asked to recreate it in the way the beatles first recorded it and they also had to do it last minute when they realised it was the reprise that they had to do...
They're in abbey road, its become kind'va a tradition for bands who record there to do at least one Beatles cover, besides why fix something that's not broken
Yeah, Adam seems like he going to be stereophonics new secong guitarist. hes very very good aswell. Richard of course it still the bassist. Very impressed with javiers drumming in this one, aswell as on there new album. never get to see how good he was until now.
seem to be the only band who can do covers well... handbags and gladrags, This, Tie Your Mother Down on al Murray's show, You Sexy Thing, Gimme Shelter, The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face, Dont Let Me Down, Sunny Afternoon to name but a few. These guys are just awesome : )
It says on the documentary that Sterephonics hadn't heard of the reprise and thought that they were recording track one, so they learnt it ON the actual day.
WOW!
I'm huge Beatles fan most of my life but have to admit.. this is really good! :)
Wow, that was a killer cover. I bet you guys put on a bang up live show!

I'm your age, and I discovered the Beatles shortly after they broke up, with the Red and Blue albums. I can still play them end to end in my mind.

he is playing, because the song has a rhythm and lead guitar part. However, some of this footage will have come from various stages of the recording, such as the backing vocals and percussion and suchlike. This isn't a video of a live performance, in other words.
the guitarist is Kelly jones, the lineup only changed drummers fom Cable to Weyler, other than that its always been Kelly and Richard

I love how all the bands put thier own kind of tint in the songs.
@aSimulatedHigh this is the reprise of the track, it was featured at the end of the album. not to be a know it all but the lyrics and speed of the song are correct.

In my opinion, there are very few bands who can take on Beatles classics and make them work, You are witnessing one of them here.
Be more wrong.
2008 and those guys don't have the guts or the talent to create something different to the original version of the Beatles, where is the spirit of music? Music is FREEDOM!!! Boo off for Stereophonics. Best cover ever of Sgt. Peppers Jimi Hendrix.
You do know that this is the 2nd version ('reprise') of Sgt Pepper they are covering, the original was covered by Bryan Adams on this album.

@janfreidun - um, they are covering the most solid band in history - The Beatles. Without them there would be no stereophonics.

Stereophonics is a great cover band for Beatles..
they got the tangy voice that the Beatles used to have.. great band, i think im a fan..
i don't want to sound like i don't appreciate the beatles, because i do. they are the greatest thing to happen in the world of music and i love them with all my heart, but in some ways this is better than the original. fantastic!
That's actually amazing
