Then William blamed Mark for the break up by saying he was at fault. So to summarise Amber knew Mark was a superhero, cyborgs attacked the college, Mark disappeared and Invincible appeared, defeated the cyborgs before flying off, Mark reappeared, Amber dumped him, Amber said she knew when Mark revealed himself to her, William then blamed Mark. It's gaslighting and Kalvin is 100% right, if Omni-Man had heard there'd be bits of William floating in the upper atmosphere.

I loved that once he realized it was teenage drama that Mark wasn't with William, he was more okay with letting the whole thing slide. He was still mad. But it was more dad mad, then psycho killer mad. The sheer, "Well call him then." Is the most dad response ever. For Will it honestly feels more like Mark did something wrong and his dad found out and was on his way to yell at him.
I don't know, I feel like Omniman is just _barely_ holding back his urge to crush William like an ant. The reason I say this is because at :45, I don't think Omniman made that dent just too shut him up. He was literally reaching into the car to _kill him_ out of frustration, but then realized at the last second that wouldn't help, because the ant could still offer at least vaguely useful advice about Mark's location; 'wait, I should ask him where Eve is' and when he provided a vaguely useful answer, Omniman just immediately forgets about the ant because killing this particular ant isn't important. And this ant is kind of important as a friend to his son so maybe he shouldn't kill him.....yet. 😵 Honestly this scene probably filled me with the most tension in the show because....there's no real guarantee that ANY character survives in Omniman's presence at this point in the show, and William was already a side character...just the fact that he walks right up to Will with his costume on no longer caring about keeping his identity a secret is a way of telling the viewer _he no longer gives a fuck about keeping his compassionate-mask on_ and the cruelty he is capable of dishing out when agitated could happen to anyone right now and not just the Flaxxans.

It’s actually impressive how little he manages to say without ever lying. “A couple hundred miles west of here” isn’t exactly a location and he manages to avoid being forced to call Mark.
But Mark's phone IS broken, that's the thing. He didn't lie about anything, the most that could be considered a lie was how vague he was with what he said.
I think he was so nervous he didn't have time to organize his thoughts, so he was speaking as he was thinking. This made the sentences come out sounding weird.
William faced down the strongest person on the planet, heard "where is my son. You were supposed to drop him off an hour ago." and keeps his calm. That is impressive.

Even if he didn't know Nolan's true intentions, someone who could turn your car into dust with a flex is going to scare the Hell out of you if he's glaring angrily at you.
I think the only thing that saved Williams life are two things. 1.) Nolan could tell William was too scared to lie, he was stressed out too, despite everything sounding like a lie, William freely gave up what information he knew. 2.) Nolan very likely watched William grow up along side Mark. They've had great effects on each other's lives. Nolan has VERY likely killed children before in his years of conquest but either thought nothing of it or didn't care as his programming taught him to see other species as insects. But knowing William as well as he did, and Williams compliance VERY LIKELY saved his life.
Well one thing is, when you don't care about someone's life you typically don't kill them for no reason either. I think it's more a case of, he just didn't care about william's life so he didn't even care to kill him without a reason to. Which is in a way more frightening than senseless violence.
Nolan views humans as people, but he doesn't really value personhood. He really has no reason to kill William because, for as weak as William is, it doesn't serve a purpose. Nolan won't simply kill a human just because. He'll only do it when he has a reason. Even when he went on that rampage, he was doing it to show Mark how weak humans are physically and how we'd be better off joining the Vultrim as a client race.
Both of you are forgetting the hundreds of people murdered in his fight with Mark. Nolan is a conqueror, killing the weak IS LITERALLY IN HIS DNA. He states this when he reveals the truth to Mark about Viltrum with how they murder the weaker Viltrumites for being weak. He even stated he'd kill every last man, woman, and child for refusing to join the Viltrum Empire.
I love when he closes his eyes and says “you were supposed to drop him off”. It’s like he’s thinking to himself “ok I can’t kill mark’s best friend or he’ll never join me, I need to still seem like a parent for a second”
I mean Omni-Man isn't a bad person at heart. What makes him so awful are centuries of military indoctrination, but he really doesn't want to do what he feels like he must.
And when William started telling the story about the college attack but instead of just telling William to stop talking he crushes the car a little with his palm. Sheesh

Debbie is the unsung hero of the show. She single handedly short circuited centuries of programming and healed this hardened soldier’s heart of prejudice. She made an alien human. And because of that, because he started to care about her and Mark, everyone including William got to live another day free.

What I really like about this scene is that despite Omni-Man being a mass murderer, when he says "Where's Mark, William?" He sounds just like a ticked off dad
The fact that William's car got off with just a dent on the roof shows how much Nolan restrained himself despite the amount of rage and bloodlust he was channeling

I love the dichotomy between William and Nolan here. William, ever the human and therefore compassionate and empathetic by default, sees Nolam slam down in front of him, and the very first thing he asks is, "Are you okay?" Despite knowing full well that there's basically nothing on Earth that can hurt him. Meanwhile, Nolan, the Viltrumite, has to actively suppress his instincts to just kill William for wasting his time and not really giving him any particularly useful information, or to just immediately start the interaction with violence and using the threat of further violence to get answers. It shows how very much not human Nolan still is, and yet how he's slowly moving in that direction by not actually handling this like a Viltrumite would.

The dude was trying to address him as Omni-Man but, then nervously trying to be respectful and unsure of the protocol calls him Mr. Grayson. He could see that Nolan didn't have time for bullshit so gave him a quick summation of the situation with no lies. I mean, he also almost died and then was rescued by the love of his life with a quick summation of their love life and deeper connection. Dude is pulling straight wins at this point with zero failure.
I love how the actual dialogue could be pretty much any "my best friend's dad isn't sure whether I'm a good and responsible influence on his son, so always assumes the worst if anything doesn't go as he's expecting it to, and this story I'm coming out with sounds ridiculous even to me", and William doesn't really have any idea that he's in danger of anything more than being told off.
I'm thinking of a carryover from American big cars' huge brake pedals that you actually needed to pump with both feet to brake like that, but its also possible that its just for intensity effect, since most cars today have smaller pedals for more sensitive brakes.
That's actually a well documented problem with using body language as a "lie detector". People can get nervous just by the fact of being questioned, and the nerves can make them seem disingenuous even if they're being sincere. It's why FBI interrogators abd the like ask normal questions throughout interviews with suspects, so they can establish a 'baseline' of behavior. In this situation it's totally expected that Will would be intimidated by Omni-man's demeanor and bloodied appearance, so if he were going to lie in that moment, you wouldn't know the lie purely from his anxious disposition. I know I'm overanalysing lol
@@tomoakley760 The reason people have specific body tells from lying, is because they are combing over their words as they speak to try and figure out if it is what the subject wants to hear. If you're interrogating someone with intimidation tactics they're combing over their own memory to make sure it won't get them killed, it's all of the same mental processes just directed towards analyzing the truth.
My favorite part of this scene is that after William gives him the info he asked for, Omniman resisted the urge to give his car a fresh new coat of red paint, just because he and Mark are friends.
You ever have that moment where you’re too stressed or intimidated to lie, but everything you say comes out like you’re lying through your teeth? Yeah that’s what William is going through in this scene.

If Mark and Nolan’s conversation is the most dramatic scene, this is definitely the most menacing. He is literally so mad that he doesn’t even care that William knows who he is, just cares about where Mark is, is almost threatening enough to give off the vibe off an actual dad when they don’t know where their kid is. Let’s be real a real dad would’ve went straight through the car roof at that level of anger

They are basically humans that have supermans basic abilities (aside from the ones I just listed) flight, super strength, super durability they are also practically immortal as the older they get the slower they age I think they live until like 2000 - 3000 years but yeah they can't hear your heartbeat or see your heartbeat.
One of the things I love about this show is just how much dedication went into the sound editing and voice acting. Most shows don't think to include tiny little moments like :37, where instead of just a stern "Call him," like a lazier editor might've done, the editor chose to add in a deliberately slow, frustrated inhalation right before Omniman says, "...call him." So that we, the viewers, can definitely hear the anger in his voice as if we were in the car seat right next to William. They could have just relied on his face, or the music, but they went that extra mile just to immerse the viewer a little more. I know the show had a limited budget for season 1, so the insane amount of subtle details like this put into the show is indicative of the vast talent and passion behind the crew who made it. (except for the crows killed by The Hammer LOL)
The brute tension of ignoring that he’s omniman is just amazing. It adds so much to the scene More that he expected “Mr.Grayson” to know who Samantha Wilkins is simply by calling her Eve

Nolan was kind of aggressive with him, but from his perspective it would made sense to think that he could be angry with Mark for something wrong that he did but he would never try to kill him because he was a noble person who protects earth and loves his son, or maybe he was angry because Mark could be in danger for some reason and he was in a hurry. Also Mark never told him to not tell where he is, so it wasn't snitching at all. He simply didn't know the horrible truth. I don't remember now if he felt guilty for telling where Mark was later, but he shouldn't in my opinion. He would probably be a lot more freaked out if he knew who Nolan really is when he came to meet him, and would never ask if he was alright.
The reason why William is afraid of Mr Greyson here and not Omni Man is because he is thinking that Omni Man is angry on William as a father but being a good guy, he'll never hurt William. This conversation would have made William pee his pants if he had known Omni man's true nature beforehand.

This is going to be obvious to many, but I feel like the dent in the car was Omni's version of a lie detector. He hears William stammer through his words and then puts pressure on the car as if to say "This is what I can do, tell the truth." But instead of William freaking out and going "Okay I'll talk, don't hurt me!" He stays quiet, not blurting out the truth because of the visual threat that just happened. So Omni took his sudden silence as the truth and then asked where Eve was

This was such a brilliantly animated scene. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen an animated character lean on a car so realistically like that. I love how Omni-Man leans on his car because he was clearly exhausted physically and with being Mr.Nice Guy as well.
Omni-Man really had no reason to kill William here. William had no part in what was happening with Cecil, and Omni-Man killed the people either because he was trying to get to Mark, or because he was trying to prove his point to Mark.

I was under the impression that, even though Viltrumites are superior in many ways, they are still sentient like us. I find it fascinating that if the Ant analogy is correct, then it can be safe to assume that all Viltrumites see everything they conquer as that so they can justify themselves via cognitive dissonance.
Notice the details here as William starts to get more scared of Omni-Man. Initially he’s able to keep eye contact, but as the conversation progresses, William’s eyes are darting and by the end they’re looking completely away from him, until he looks back and sees the blood. It’s subtle, but makes the scene that bit more tense.
I was genuinely not sure if William would be alive by the end of this scene. This show has proven by now that anyone in Omniman's presence has their plot armor ripped off.
Will literally had the grim reaper breathing down his spine with Omniman standing there. All he has to do was press down on that car hood at minimum to crush that kid. The fact he's Mark's friend I think was the single thing that spared his life in that moment

1.) Nolan could tell William was too scared to lie, he was stressed out too, despite everything sounding like a lie, William freely gave up what information he knew.
2.) Nolan very likely watched William grow up along side Mark. They've had great effects on each other's lives. Nolan has VERY likely killed children before in his years of conquest but either thought nothing of it or didn't care as his programming taught him to see other species as insects. But knowing William as well as he did, and Williams compliance VERY LIKELY saved his life.
Well one thing is, when you don't care about someone's life you typically don't kill them for no reason either.
I think it's more a case of, he just didn't care about william's life so he didn't even care to kill him without a reason to. Which is in a way more frightening than senseless violence.
Nolan views humans as people, but he doesn't really value personhood. He really has no reason to kill William because, for as weak as William is, it doesn't serve a purpose.
Nolan won't simply kill a human just because. He'll only do it when he has a reason. Even when he went on that rampage, he was doing it to show Mark how weak humans are physically and how we'd be better off joining the Vultrim as a client race.
Both of you are forgetting the hundreds of people murdered in his fight with Mark. Nolan is a conqueror, killing the weak IS LITERALLY IN HIS DNA. He states this when he reveals the truth to Mark about Viltrum with how they murder the weaker Viltrumites for being weak. He even stated he'd kill every last man, woman, and child for refusing to join the Viltrum Empire.

I love the dichotomy between William and Nolan here. William, ever the human and therefore compassionate and empathetic by default, sees Nolam slam down in front of him, and the very first thing he asks is, "Are you okay?" Despite knowing full well that there's basically nothing on Earth that can hurt him. Meanwhile, Nolan, the Viltrumite, has to actively suppress his instincts to just kill William for wasting his time and not really giving him any particularly useful information, or to just immediately start the interaction with violence and using the threat of further violence to get answers. It shows how very much not human Nolan still is, and yet how he's slowly moving in that direction by not actually handling this like a Viltrumite would.
The scariest part of this scene is the fact that he clearly doesn't realize just how much danger he was in here.
I think he had a small inkling something wasn't quite right, but he did seem kinda oblivious to how serious he was.
Worst part is that William at no point seems to realize just how close he was to dying horribly there.

One of the things I love about this show is just how much dedication went into the sound editing and voice acting.
Most shows don't think to include tiny little moments like :37, where instead of just a stern "Call him," like a lazier editor might've done,
the editor chose to add in a deliberately slow, frustrated inhalation right before Omniman says, "...call him."
So that we, the viewers, can definitely hear the anger in his voice as if we were in the car seat right next to William.
They could have just relied on his face, or the music, but they went that extra mile just to immerse the viewer a little more.
I know the show had a limited budget for season 1, so the insane amount of subtle details like this put into the show is indicative of the vast talent and passion behind the crew who made it. (except for the crows killed by The Hammer LOL)

Nolan was kind of aggressive with him, but from his perspective it would made sense to think that he could be angry with Mark for something wrong that he did but he would never try to kill him because he was a noble person who protects earth and loves his son, or maybe he was angry because Mark could be in danger for some reason and he was in a hurry.
Also Mark never told him to not tell where he is, so it wasn't snitching at all. He simply didn't know the horrible truth. I don't remember now if he felt guilty for telling where Mark was later, but he shouldn't in my opinion.
He would probably be a lot more freaked out if he knew who Nolan really is when he came to meet him, and would never ask if he was alright.

This was such a brilliantly animated scene. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen an animated character lean on a car so realistically like that. I love how Omni-Man leans on his car because he was clearly exhausted physically and with being Mr.Nice Guy as well.
At this point, the only reason Omni man didn’t kill him is because he just didn’t feel like it
it would have taken at least half a second for omni man to have killed him.. and yet he didn't wanna waste his time.
I think it's because he knows William is Mark's best friend, and he wouldn't snap off that connection (at least not at that moment)
Omni-Man really had no reason to kill William here. William had no part in what was happening with Cecil, and Omni-Man killed the people either because he was trying to get to Mark, or because he was trying to prove his point to Mark.

@@shubniggurath3947 I noticed that a lot of people are comparing OmniMan and us humans like we're insects. I'm new to this series, but is that really how he views us? Just wondering is all. I was under the impression that, even though Viltrumites are superior in many ways, they are still sentient like us. I find it fascinating that if the Ant analogy is correct, then it can be safe to assume that all Viltrumites see everything they conquer as that so they can justify themselves via cognitive dissonance.
Notice the details here as William starts to get more scared of Omni-Man. Initially he’s able to keep eye contact, but as the conversation progresses, William’s eyes are darting and by the end they’re looking completely away from him, until he looks back and sees the blood. It’s subtle, but makes the scene that bit more tense.
