  • I'm a big Thermarest fan and this is my second Venture mat. Thermarest are well known for offering high-quality built to last sleeping mats. I have used several different styles and versions, and in this video I review the Thermarest Venture, breaking down the pros and cons.

    I found one of these in my local small outdoors shop the other day and got it as I can't be dealing with there new crisp packet pads and I love it, it's almost as nice as my hammock and has made tenting so much better

    Hi Abbie I have the thermarest xtherm large. It will the pillow is more comfortable than my bed. I absolutely love it yes it is expensive but worth it. I have slept in winter in my 3 season lightweight bag. So warm under no cold or pressure points 100% Recommend

    Thank you for not adding an irritating elevator music soundtrack - the curse of UA-cam reviews and how-tos :-) ps, I bought one and yes: I had a really good night's sleep. First impression was that it's a bit narrow but it really didn't matter. Probably just being so long makes it look narrow.

    Abbie, this mat is widely accepted as a credible choice. I have tried lower cost items with mixed results. Your choice is probably best. Looking forward to seeing you out and about real soon.

    Had mine for a couple of years & just bought another one for my daughter.
    Yes, it's slightly heavier than an XLite or similar & not as warm but for 3 season camping where every last gram doesn't count (lots of us then!) it is a really good buy.
    Paid just over £50 Aug 19, same as I paid for mine about 2 yrs ago - try finding an XLite for less than double that price! As somebody has said, you can use additional insulation beneath it if used in really cold weather making it even more versatile.

    I have a Therma Rest Neo Air X Lite. It’s thick like yours but a bit narrow to save weight. I sleep on my side and often feel like I have to balance on the thing. I like the width of yours and think the comfort is probably worth the weight. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the video.

    The old one with the leak. A little bit of dish washing soap will reveal that leak (and the soap rinses clean a lot easier than you think). I've got the Klimit mattress, was thinking of getting the Thermarest, it's a bit lighter and gets better reviews...but a couple of ounces isn't worth $150.
    What I did with the pillow is to tie a piece of string to the valve and then through the tag on the other side (I was on the trail). I then looped this around my air mattress and cinched it just a bit. Stays in place. Works so well I don't know why this isn't a standard feature. I had a mystery leak in my Klimit pillow. Could not find it--until I put a little soap in the water. Then I flooded the spot with silicone sealer. Klimit was great about a replacement. They just wanted a photo of the leaky one. If anyone doesn't have an air mattress-- get one, and get an air pillow. I had a terrific set up with a few clothes in a half puffed-up drybag--worked great, but not nearly as comfortable as an actual air pillow. The American long distance backpack shamers (you know the ones, "My pack weights 8 pounds." "That much? My pack weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces." Well, they all have air mattresses. And not the 2/3rds ones.

    crazy how im just watching this, and you said if you shop around and found it around £45, looking at it now cheapest price is £77, preferred the Neo air xlite but can't justify paying £144 :(

    I've currently got the really warm 4 season silver one which is about 6cm deep but quite narrow...yours looks much more roomy and leisurely and much more affordable. I might invest. Thank you

    Thanks Abbie ! You can winterise this by using cut to length foil bubble wrap from a DIY store (insulation section) and it hardly weighs anything!

    Nice. It compares not badly at all with the NeoAir Xlite and is a good bit cheaper.

    Thanks for the review Abbie ! If I may give a quick tip, make sure your turn off the autofocus on your camera before you start the filming: it's constantly adjusting during the review, and we can hear and see it :)

      Thanks for this. Drives me crazy that focus! I do turn it off but then I can't see if I am in focus until afterwards! I need a camera assistant!!

    • @theodoremarkovic9158
      @theodoremarkovic9158 5 років тому +1

      @@AbbieBarnesWILD What you can do then is to either focus from your camera screen on which you should be able to zoom (they often have focus assistance highlighting the sharp elements on screen) or focus on your subject by half-pressing the button, then turn off the autofocus. It's often called single autofocus, opposed to continuous autofocus (which is the one bothering you). Hope this helps !

    Interesting and looks better value than my xtherm although mine did come with the stuff sack with hole so you can inflate it using the sack. Still hard work though .... you need to lie down afterwards 🤣

    Tha fact that there is air circulating means you are loosing body heat.
    Put a section of thin DIY shop-bought Insulation in you pack.That will increase your heat saving dramatically and it weighs nothing.
    OR,carry an old fashiond roll-mat.

    Hi Abbie, would have liked to see you deflate it & pack it away....I found it hard work to be honest..

    • @AbbieBarnesWILD
      @AbbieBarnesWILD  6 років тому

      Not too hard once you've got the know how! I firstly roll it to get all the air out, then close the valve and fold it into thirds, then roll again. Easily done in my tent but not my favourite part of packing up!

      Thanks for the tip....I'm working on a weightless, volumeless vacuum device to extract all the air. When I succeed I'll send one to you...cheers
