the point is, pausing isnt intended to be used for stamina, thats why its difficult to say whether its cheating or not
Sure if you wanna be a smartass about it but it ruins the challenge for you and if you pause to do something hard, it will always make the achievement less impressive not just for others but for yourself
i mean think of smash for example. Pausing mid match is an instant loss no matter the circumstances. You can have game features that are cheating in a competitive setting, your argument has no basis

I don't think pausing is bad, since it's easier to not hurt yourself while playing by straining your hands, or by other means by pushing yourself too far. I think it's a cool part of a strategy to beating a level by pausing and changing grip. Besides, if you really don't like it yourself, don't pause.

my arms burn really badly playing beat saber because they’re constantly tensed so i need to pause if fast parts last for too long

That's sort of the point of stamina speed charts. Your arms are going to burn if you swing with them. Speed charts that are stamina draining expect you to use wrist only

My arms burned really badly during a reyvatails vibro for like 2 minutes but I didn’t pause the only time I pause is if my game is lagging/stuttering, tracking or accidental
Pausing is exploiting the game, but so is changing controller offsets, grip styles, player height, all of it. Exploiting the game’s mechanics is a huge part of high-level play. If pausing is cheating, so is every other change we make to the game.

Controller settings are made specifically so people can adjust grips and stuff to what they're used to. It's a mechanic that is specifically intended for making the game easier so I'd argue that isn't cheating.
I'd argue changing player height to somewhere where you aren't supposed to is cheating since it's intended as a feature for you to keep the notes at your level and not intended for you to lie about your height to make notes lower/higher. I'd also argue pausing is cheating for the same reason, it's intended for you to use if you need to go suddenly, are on a very good run and don't want to immediately lose it. It's not intended for you to use it for gaining back stamina. That's just my opinion on it though

I hit the ceiling fan all the time if I don't reduce player height a bit, also glasses+sweat->readjusting things in longer songs.
If pausing is cheating in beat saber then pausing was cheating in every other video game before it.

I only pause when my headset gets loose/almost falls off, and I often have to finish the song fully without being able to pause cause the notes are coming too fast
Honestly I just find it more fun to avoid pausing as it lets me push myself based on when I get to rest and how long sections are for me to swing, I usually only pause when I gotta go do something mid song

Pausing has only ever hurt me in beatsaber ngl, I play on expert plus with speed modifiers so if I pause by accident it's basically insta death in certain spots

I think it's not cheating to pause if you hit something and need to move, you accidentally drop the controller, the tracking is being weird, or if the controllers run out of battery

Its a skill you have to develop. Resuming after pausing can be difficult but if you watch top players they can legit pause in the middle of streams and resume like nothing happened after
Anybody who say pausing is cheating to those who use pauses is suckling hard on copium. You can tell yourself that to help you get better at stamina efficiency during practise and that's fine. But telling people how to play a game is just back seating & that's toxic.
I don't see the copium in being toxic, maybe stop using dumb buzzwords and actually speak your mind? Let me rephrase it for you: "Anybody who says that pausing is cheating is only trying to enforce some arbitrary standards which people are not obligated to follow, thus people can play however they so please." That's what you meant to say?
Good, because it's true that it's not "cheating" when there aren't any rules to be cheated in the first place. The truth in this matter is that pausing does give you an advantage regardless of if you see it as cheating or not simply by virtue of allowing you to regain your stamina while playing. It is an advantage.
@@pantommy Self reasoning of toxic behavior goes both ways. I don't go around telling people that don't pause is being stupid or whatever. But the other side isn't the case. "Hey, doing this is cheating/giving you advantages. You suck for doing that." Now why would anyone want to exclaim that notion? Did they feel threatened? Literally anyhthing anyone does can construed as obtaining advantages over the other. To what end will a perfect "not cheating form" ever going to look like? Vanilla beat saber with default grip, no mod whatsoever including custom sabers? Literally anything not of vanilla default setting will give you an advantage. No static lights? no manual height setting? no removing debris? Tailoring your own enjoyment of a game just so that the other guys' ego don't get bruised sound like a great way to kill the longevity of a game real fast.
The only type of "cheating" I will never see eye to eye with is the TAS & CheatEngine induced scores.

Every time I unpause I always miss the first few notes. It should work more like Beatstar where it rewinds a few seconds (but doesn’t make you replay those notes) so you can get back into the beat of the song

so under that logic if i were to, say in an extreme case, dislocate my wrist and needed to pause for medical attention, that would be cheating.
Yes, if you were in some sort of competition you'd be disqualified... Thing is that there are not rules which say pausing is prohibited. What's true is that pausing gives you an advantage, regardless of whether you see it as cheating or not.

Things I pause for:
- It's a map over 20 minutes.
- My tracking dies.
- Sweat gets in my eye.
- I have an unbearable itch.
- Mother tries to talk to me.
Things I don't pause for:
- I am tired.
- Arms are so sore they slow down.
- Wrist hurts.
- Minor itches.
- General overexertion.
Physical limitations just tell me that I need to build more stamina. If I fail from lack of physical capabilities, then I just write it down and come back to it in a few months. I try not to pause whenever possible. I don't pause in OSU. I don't pause in GD. I don't DC to avoid deaths in MC. I don't pause in Beat Saber. Pausing ultimately doesn't help me in the long run.
This is exactly how I feel about this topic.
I commented on this a year ago and now I play with a stationary boundary so there's no more adjusting to the barrier. Buuuut I sometimes pause songs solely to quit the song bc I realize I'm in over my head or if the song's too easy and I'm getting bored.

You can pause to read every beat and which way to swipe on harder songs. And not only that, but to reposition your arms too.

If only the pause button would work even half the time. Beat Saber broke itself with one of the later updates.
My grip is always bad, but I don’t pause to correct it, my hand always slips, I usually fail the song whenever I pause it lol
I find a good time to pause in shorter songs is right when you start if you realize you're too close to the barrier (if you have one, I only have experience with one headset) you can try to adjust yourself before it becomes a problem

Beat Saber is not a stamina game. It's a rhythm game which you fit your moves into songs. And in this game, it's important to hit most middle of the cube, not having more stamina. So, pausing is not cheating.
My controller has died twice both times in the middle of a song

Usually when I dodge the walls I get to far out of the center of my boundary’s and have to pauses to move back, or my hands get sweaty and I have to readjust my grip on the controllers

I only pause when I accidentally press the button playing. Usually it never ends well.
I use pausing for three main reasons one I need to when I’m tired pretty obvious, two I wear glasses and they get fogged up easily playing a game like beat saber so I had to pause to wipe the fog off, and three I have to wipe the sweat off of the top rubber so I’m not uncomfortable for the rest of the song

If you're a beginner trying out higher difficulties either do "training" or "no fail" or if you don't wanna choose one of those options you can pause but only in these certain circumstances and if you do it out of these circumstances I don't care. Play how you want, all that matters is you have fun.
As long as it's not in a competition I don't think it's cheating, I usually fall way out of rythm if I pause so I don't do it unless I have to (dropped controller, sweat in my eye, etc)

This has also been a point of discussion in the geometry Dash community for quite some time now. As long as it's a core function of the game, it's not cheating. You're using a simple system that the developers put in place for the use of the players.

Soo I think pausing because of stamina issues is one thing (although it is a game and I needs to be enjoyed by everyone in their own way so I don’t judge anyone)
But I also pause because it is better than sending your controller flying around because of sweaty hands and for stuff like pausing in the beginning of the map to reduce lag or Someone is at the door. This is real life stuff happens 🤷🏼♀️

If it’s in the game it’s not exploiting, the intention of pausing is for various situations like out of energy, tracking loss, someone trying to talk to you, etc, there isnt anything wrong with pausing

I manage to change my grip with the controllers without pausing.
The only time I pause is if someone calls me lol. I don't like to pause either, it breaks my momentum and rhythm
all of the things you mentioned are perfectly reasonable you should be able to get a better grip on your controllers if your hands are sweaty or need to regain your stamina
