    Very nice & proper repair, what works very well for me is the use of isopropyl for general cleaning and then the Zippo to improve contacts and leave a tinny protective layer because zippo's oil in self. i remember in some time Sorin used to use this ZIppo on his repairs.. for me was always a good idea !

    i fixed so many liquid damaged boards like this.... however this is the first im hearing about liquid rosin for the solder joints under the chips.

    • @ken-camo
      @ken-camo 2 місяці тому

      time is critical. because that corrosion is basically rust, and it will rust away the solder and then finding fault becomes a needle in haystack lol

    • @ken-camo
      @ken-camo 2 місяці тому

      basically anything that power runs thru will get corroded. always the positve power pins get damaged. best thing to do is remove that battery ASAP.... only then the stupid "rice trick" could work. lol. or better yet just let it sit infront of a fan for a few days. but only if battery is removed. if you are unable to remove battery then bring it somewhere right away.

    The risk as said is just how long will it continue to work?

    Maybe a good idea to shield the tantalum capacitors from the hot air when removing the metal shield?

    • @CarlosGarcia-d3e
      @CarlosGarcia-d3e 6 місяців тому

      @tim0steele: Tantalum capacitors withstand the heat caused by hot air very well. Sometimes, like MOVs (metal oxide varistors), they are "carbonized" by sudden voltage spikes (transient).
      On the other hand, electrolytic capacitors (aluminum body) withstand a maximum temperature of 450 Celsius, in common consumer appliance applications, so it is highly recommended to cover them with Kapton tape or other suitable insulating material, if any are close to the component you want to remove.
      Northridge posted a video in which one of them exploded on him, fortunately without affecting his personal safety, while he was carrying out Hot Air repair work at a temperature of almost 500 degrees Celsius. All the best.

    • @tim0steele
      @tim0steele 6 місяців тому

      @@CarlosGarcia-d3e Many experts advise against using hot air rework on or near tantalum capacitors due to their sensitivity to high temperatures (according to ChatGPT!). Definitely agree about electrolytic capacitors, they don't like heat at all.

    i bet you 10 quid the audio does not work, or at the very least the headphone port does not work, i work on this model often (a2337) and water always destroys the little audio io/daughter board. easy fix/replacement.
    also not a hater, i genuinely think you are the man, i watch daily, 4-5 years or so, your low melt solder paste is amazing also.

    • @hightttech
      @hightttech 7 місяців тому

      Low melt solder (aka "low melt allow") in general is a game changer. I discovered it more than 20 years ago from ZEPHYRTRONICS while learning to rework expensive, prototype PCB's. I've watched techs ruin boards, and make UGLY repairs due to struggling with component removal -- they do not know the secret 😁.
