I am a chartered accountant by profession living in the UK but I am slowly becoming a computer expert just because of your videos. I will start buying disposed laptops that are damaged in bid to try to fix them. Apart from multi meter, screw drivers and soldering gun, what is the other important equipment that I can buy
Very nice & proper repair, what works very well for me is the use of isopropyl for general cleaning and then the Zippo to improve contacts and leave a tinny protective layer because zippo's oil in self. i remember in some time Sorin used to use this ZIppo on his repairs.. for me was always a good idea !
basically anything that power runs thru will get corroded. always the positve power pins get damaged. best thing to do is remove that battery ASAP.... only then the stupid "rice trick" could work. lol. or better yet just let it sit infront of a fan for a few days. but only if battery is removed. if you are unable to remove battery then bring it somewhere right away.
IPA works wonders on corrosion caused by liquid damage. The risk as said is just how long will it continue to work? If there is still unseen damage under the components, then it is just down to your luck regarding the long reliability of the laptop.
You missed your calling. You could have been a Dentist. 🦷Previous videos drilling skills on a "decayed" motherboard, and today (tooth) brush cleaning as well. You could charge more as well.
I personally would have plopped the motherboard in my ultrasonic cleaner immediately. As it is doing its thing, I would have dried the screen\keyboard+case with a fan, much like you did. Then I would have dried the motherboard in my oven at 60c hot air for about 1 hour
@tim0steele: Tantalum capacitors withstand the heat caused by hot air very well. Sometimes, like MOVs (metal oxide varistors), they are "carbonized" by sudden voltage spikes (transient). On the other hand, electrolytic capacitors (aluminum body) withstand a maximum temperature of 450 Celsius, in common consumer appliance applications, so it is highly recommended to cover them with Kapton tape or other suitable insulating material, if any are close to the component you want to remove. Northridge posted a video in which one of them exploded on him, fortunately without affecting his personal safety, while he was carrying out Hot Air repair work at a temperature of almost 500 degrees Celsius. All the best.
@@CarlosGarcia-d3e Many experts advise against using hot air rework on or near tantalum capacitors due to their sensitivity to high temperatures (according to ChatGPT!). Definitely agree about electrolytic capacitors, they don't like heat at all.
SORIN, speaking of waterdammage I felt playing with my quest 3 in the pool for about 1 second, switched it of, dried it, shook it ! Put it in 1 kg of rice, 1 day in the sun but even if it boots no video only the welcome sound. I took it apart and didn't,t se waterdammage on the motherboard. Can the water creep under the gpu? Do you think it will work eventually? Greetings from Mexico
I think that Macbook got wet a lot longer than before today. I would not rule out keyboard issues with that much water. Will this user make regular backups of their data? Possible.
i bet you 10 quid the audio does not work, or at the very least the headphone port does not work, i work on this model often (a2337) and water always destroys the little audio io/daughter board. easy fix/replacement. also not a hater, i genuinely think you are the man, i watch daily, 4-5 years or so, your low melt solder paste is amazing also.
Low melt solder (aka "low melt allow") in general is a game changer. I discovered it more than 20 years ago from ZEPHYRTRONICS while learning to rework expensive, prototype PCB's. I've watched techs ruin boards, and make UGLY repairs due to struggling with component removal -- they do not know the secret 😁.
A backup disk costs so much less than £200... Every time I receive a data recovery job I want to scream. If the data was important, why don't you keep a backup? Time Machine is maybe the best feature of MacOS.
That much water and id be like, "Your laptop is dead my friend, forever gone, RIP 💻⚰️🪦!" Sorin is like, "Proper damage, ill have it back to you in 30 minutes or less." 😎
Apple engineer watching this: ENGINEERING MEMO. From now all rubber seals will be removed from all models in production so we can save 1c per unit. This means any level of water damage=dead laptop=customer buys new laptop=we make $$$$. End-Of-Memo.
Not apple engineer, apple bean counter. I have the feeling that engineers here try to do the best job they can, and some idiot in accounting keeps ruining the engineers' work wanting to save that 1c.
Man, we woulda changed/scrapped half the parts including the screen & hit them up for like $1,000+ bucks lvl4 repair 😂 they don’t clean shit the way you did I had no faith in this thing powering on at all. Even if this lasts a year or two great deal compared to Apple (repair depot) charging you the price of a new laptop for repair
macbooks from nature are attractive to corrosion, also some macbookusers are really weird of what you might find inside the macbooks........L.R. knows all of that.....
Did the customer really pay the 200$ price for cleaning with IPA and a brush? For that price, you could have at least unscrew the touchpad and clean underneath there - it will corrode and cause sudden restarts and kernel panics.
No way I would do this for a customer same day. 1) I take picture of damaged areas 2) Throw in ultrasonic cleaner, submerge it in alcohol for 10 mins, let it dry over night in front of fan. I also put the keyboard in front of fan 3) I reflow CD chips 4) Test for problems. I also upsell on bad parts. Usually battery and keyboard dead with this type of spill You forgot to check under heatsink CPU area 😬
Does anyone there in your country puts their water devices inside a sack of rice?? - i know it sounds so stupid but alot of people still cling to this belief.
wow.. working only by cleaning.. proper nice, good from the client to bring laptop for repair same time.. AND NOT SWITHING IT ON!💯👏
Good lesson, never gave guarantee for liquid damage stuff, that they will fails again soon. thank you sir Sorin for today's Lesson. ❤

20 minutes working with IPA will give you the ability to talk a second language 😂
30:20 magic touch, almost made the line go away just by cleaning it!
Maybe ultrasonic will dissolve stuff under chips, but then again I've seen Rossmann clean under chips first, be it with sticky liquids..
This Macbook is so wet it has fish inside 🐠 🤣🤣
now fish is dyeing
Needs a Barracuda card. Might be a Fail Whale. It's not slow as a snail. I like it like Eye Candy.

@@paulojarasantibanez6391 what is “zippo” ? thanks
i fixed so many liquid damaged boards like this.... however this is the first im hearing about liquid rosin for the solder joints under the chips.
time is critical. because that corrosion is basically rust, and it will rust away the solder and then finding fault becomes a needle in haystack lol

Nice cleaning Sorin. You are universal.
A good ultra sonic cleaner would be a good thing for you to have.
I'm quite sure that can clean it more.
Linus Sebastian from LMG cleaned some pcbs in a dishwasher. Once they are dried out properly before any voltage is applied they will suffer no damage.
Does anyone else enjoy watching this blue corrosion? A nice looking color indeed :))
To me, it all looks GREEN 💵 💵 💵 😂
@@hightttech hahaha
Rosin my friend this is a perfect job to use WD-40... a non conductive material that repels water and moisture...
I have a heater exactly like the one that Sorin is using to dry the laptop.
Next perfect work, and thank you for describing every step :D
sir which liquid do we use for the best water-damaged laptop motherboard cleaning.
ultrasonic cleaning of that board, would that help?
The shield that never got soldered back on:
lololol 😂😂😂
IPA works wonders on corrosion caused by liquid damage.
The risk as said is just how long will it continue to work?

regarding the long reliability of the laptop.
It's wise to have an up to date Time Machine backup.

I am so grateful for your videos. Outstanding.
Great work once again Sorin 👌🙂

Outstanding work!
just through it in a ultra sonic cleaner sorin
what chemical you using sir for cleaning????
Notice the power supply dancing in the background 😂😂😂😂
This is not a repair, this is a cleanup. Just kidding, great job Mr. Sorin!
I am learning sir
2:54 scratches noggin to find answer lmao
Good job mate
That was fresh job.
Straight from Thames river i guess.
Come to Besiktas, Sorin...I hope that's water...
Sorin wat strength of ipa do you use
Maybe a good idea to shield the tantalum capacitors from the hot air when removing the metal shield?

I want to learn how to fix motherboard, how do I start?
What do I have to learn first?
Water damage is the same damage Liquid Metal may cause?
Sorin sir please replay what is difference btw ultra sonic and alcholhol
Hey when i power my MacBook only the keyboard show lights that its on but nothing displayed on the screen

In this case what if we dip parts of board in alot of isopropyl alcohol so the fresh water mixes with it and then evaporates?
what MacBook air it is ? I see that it is M series, but wat exactly ?
How about restoring the shields with the holes inside ?
You are the master 👌
Loool today I had exact same Macbook with very similar liquid damage on the motherboard. The macs love water or what hah
I think that Macbook got wet a lot longer than before today. I would not rule out keyboard issues with that much water. Will this user make regular backups of their data? Possible.
Think you
my first thought was what exactly was the liquid?
Imagine paying for a fix and no parts are replaced it is just scrubbed with a toothbrush 😂
Sorin's Power Supply in short-circuit mode on. hahaha. At 15 minutes of the video.
Nobody is using the Power Supply Unit for this repair.
Mystery of the Haunted Workshop
Power supply felt left out, decided to do voltage injection

That was repetitive water damage. Some of that was long term.
Seriously. Soaking wet! What did they do to it??
How come you don't put that in an ultrasonic cleaner - it would clean it faster - suggestion only
The frequency of Sorin's ultrasonic cleaner is only 2 Hz.
