    Peter, the lavender/white bearded Iris are so healthy and large blooms. I can see why you would be excited! Then the bright yellow roses took my breath away. You both have excellent taste when it comes to planting a country garden so close to nature.

    Tommy, that was beautiful addition to the pond area to just use the mound of dirt you removed to add drought resistant plants to bring even more beauty to your garden. It's all going to co.e together and be breathtaking 😍.

    The change in the color of the pond water, in just one week, is impressive, evidently the products you used are the appropriate ones.
    The water lilies are growing quickly and they also are going to help to keep the algae growth down.
    Irises look dreamy and sophisticated but even the daisies, in their simplicity, are also beautiful.
    Congrats guys on all your efforts to make your garden a more beautiful place. Super thumbs up.

    Great job guys. We had a concrete pond in our backyard at the first house we lived in. If you can get some toads to start breeding in your pond you will find that the tadpoles eat a lot of algae. Water hyacinth is also great for cleaning the water. ❤❤

    Wow that was so interesting guys. Using science to produce such a natural and balanced pond environment. Also loved the rock garden. Such a good idea to concentrate an area that thrives in dry conditions. It is difficult for you to give all the time you want to your garden having to live and work in the city. You really are doing amazing though.

    Oh no! The poor algae. Algae is used in thousands of foods that most of us don’t realize. I’m sure Cooking with Peter could, for example, harvest the algae and add it to bread dough. 😃. Homemade superfood bread! Thanks for the video ❤❤

    • @tommyandpeter
      @tommyandpeter  7 місяців тому +1

      Oh no Greg, not these algae that just cause the water to be green. They are single-cell organisms, so you can't just take a piece and put them into your soup 😀 But you never know, maybe I will figure out a recipe with green water from the pond for the next Cooking with Peter episode 😂

    How wonderful for you to see results from all your research, shopping, and additions to make the pond water more clear! Congratulations. Great idea editing so that we got to see the before and the after!! In contrast, I have been trying for two weeks to live trap a rabbit that got into my garden: I got the trap, bought recommended rabbit bait (apples, carrots, lettuce), wear gloves to keep my scent off the trap and the bait, but no luck. All I catch are squirrels. So take pride in your success with your algae! 🙂 How wide will the trunk of your willow get? I am worried about how close it is to your pond.

    • @tommyandpeter
      @tommyandpeter  7 місяців тому

      Thank you, glad you liked how the video was edited. We also liked how every week the water was different 😁 This kind of willow shouldn't be too big, so it should be ok with the distance from the pond. Good luck catching the rabbit. Doesn't sound like fun at all 😬

    A water aerator or a water cycle would help tremendously. Some people use a water cycle as a water feature made out of rocks which Returns the water over and over again which is a method of aerating. I'm not sure if you have a power source to your pond but there are several types of water cycling or water aeration available for different needs and types of ponds.

    • @tommyandpeter
      @tommyandpeter  7 місяців тому

      Sadly we don't have a power source near the pond. It would be great to have a little waterfall, but it would also cost some money to let it run. Anyway, we are glad we can at least have the little solar water fountain 🙂

    Really enjoyed that video, boys. Love the pool too. BYW, Algae is pronounced algi rather than algay. Glad you got the green water under control. Sorry I haven’t commented much lately, life here in Ireland has become very busy of late. Best wishes from your pal in Ireland. Stefan x

    • @tommyandpeter
      @tommyandpeter  7 місяців тому

      Thank you. We gave up on the correct pronunciation of the word algae, because it seems everyone thinks it is pronounced differently. British English, American, Australian, South African... So, let's pretend that how we say it, that is the Czech English 😀 Greetings to Ireland 😉

    • @Stefan-dd5wo
      @Stefan-dd5wo 7 місяців тому

      @@tommyandpeter Well…so long as we agree that British English is the standard, anything else, while acceptable, falls short. 🤣🤣🤣 Either way, I’m glad you got the algae problem resolved. Clarity is everything. Stefan x

    I had a pond but it had a waterfall so it behaves differently. It had rocks in the bottom which were supposed to harbor bacteria to digest nutrients. I didn’t have a problem with blue-green algae but I did with string algae. Supplements were supposed to stop that but didn’t. I would just grab and pull it out by the handful.
    I recommend putting water features near where one sits outside. Water noises are naturally soothing.
    I visited rack gardens in the Czech Republic. One as large as .25 hectares. They were breathtaking.

    • @tommyandpeter
      @tommyandpeter  7 місяців тому

      With a waterfall, that must have been amazing 😊 String algae are "better" to have, because like you said, you can manually remove them compared to just having a green water 😁

      Thank you, makes us happy to hear that you enjoy our videos 😊 We had quite a few thunderstorms in the past weeks, so we didn't have to add water to the pond. But when it's dry, then it needs to be done, maybe once every two weeks or so. All depends on the weather. We'll see about various plants in the future. So far, we've been testing the ones which we have, if they do well here.

    Don't make the water too clear. If you put fish or other animals in the water they need to be able to hide from predators. It looks good the way it is. Good job!

    • @tommyandpeter
      @tommyandpeter  7 місяців тому +1

      Don't worry, it won't be too clear. With the rising summer temperatures, it will be an ongoing challenge 😀 The little animals can already hide around the plants or various rocks, so that's nice. There are quite a lot of predatory insects, which we like 😊 Thanks 😉

      Thanks for the tip. For now there won't be any fish, but later when the pond is more established and the plants grow, we might get some fish, we'll see 😊 Luckily there are no mosquito larvae in the water at all; various small predatory insects live in the water now and that's not good for mosquitoes 😀

    Guys I had same issues even though my pond is stone made. Visit any large pet shop in your area like zoo plus, pet network also known as pet centar, zoo city or similar and go to section for fish aquariums terrariums and etc. They have a lot of stuff to fight this and have clear water with healthy fish, turtles or even visiting ducks and birds. Did not watch whole video yet cos my character does not allow me to skip order of watching and we are still stuck around your Cyprus vacation lol.. my life drastically changed since the kids are grown up and I become grand uncle and since I cut all tides with both my mum and sister except the Important stuff and finally have life of my own again. It has different pronunciation in British vs American English. In British English it should be how we pronounced it in the video. But yeah, English can be very confusing. In some topics that are more into detail, like here when we were explaining, we don't have enough vocabulary for the topic, and when we look up some words, we don't even know which version we should choose 😀
