      Well If he does have to agree with him - after trying both - that P3d is the better option. I speak as a GA flyer and the experience is simply better for me in terms of that type of flying. However I might fly both as they are both excellent in my opinion.

    Coming from a long time P3D user, very few people use P3D because they actually like the base sim. We just like what the after market developers have made for it. Bring over AS16, all the heavies, chase plane, and I don't really see a reason to stick with P3D at that point unless they make some very significant changes like X-Plane did this year. Granted many of us also stay because of what we've already invested. Even as a military trainer DCS World has taken that over.

      A straight comparison between the two, with zero add-ons, I think goes in X-Plane's favor. Granted, the default ATC and AI in P3D may be better, but it really seems like that'd be the only thing it would have over XP. Looking at performance (true multi-core and true full-screen), content, and visuals (that night lighting), XP clearly has the edge.

    Great analysis! My summary of the video is that both Sims are pretty comparable when it comes to visuals and performance (slight edge to XP11, but both are essentially x.0 releases, so lots of room for improvement). XP11 has an edge when it comes to features like plane selection, map, etc that make it accessible to the general user and maybe a slight edge on over-all visuals?
    For those of us who have simm'ed for years, we all know its about the availability and quality of the add-ons. P3D (once all of the v4 conversions are done) has a distinct advantage in planes, utilities etc.

    Nice job highlighting some differences between the sims.
    Now I can sit back and roll my eyes at people arguing over which one is "better". It is like watching people argue over whether a Ford or Chevy truck is better, when the trucks don't have exactly the same options and when they are going to be used differently.

    Good review Osamah. Like many other people, I did not like X-plane until version 11 came out. I have also purchase Prepar3d version 4 since I have tons of add-ons and now waiting for free upgrades. My first choice is X-Plane 11. However, I will still use Prepar3d from time to time since there are some aircraft's I really like. For purchasing new add-ons, I will only consider the x-plane platform at this time.

    Dear Q8Pilot,
    Although what you say about the looks of each is true and we share the same opinion on many aspects, I think you overlooked a really serious aspect of what is flight sim...
    If you're only in for the beauty, then go Aerofly and forget about the other sims.. But you completely overlooked one of the core aspects of XP / FS (P3D): The flight model !!!
    By default, FSX / P3D are deterministic models (table with values) and XP is a constant flow calculation over the flying surfaces (through blade theory)... For any subsonic flight and mostly for props / turboprops, you can't beat XP stock planes since it consider each blade of the prop as a wing...
    That is a very important aspect for a person that is looking for a serious sim in GA...
    Other than that, thanks for the video and the courage to have launched a potential troll flow video :)
    Cheers

    I have to give it to X-Plane 11. Having flown both of them, I can easily say in my opinion that XP11L is way better then P3D v4. I did not like X-plane until they came out with version 11. I only used FSX and P3D. I do not think i can go back to p3d. I will say this though. I really miss the pmdg planes. Though XPL11 has some nice ones already.

    What a great comparison video the best I've seen . I think that the argument about which is the best sim will go on for a long time. Both Simms are great but not perfect YET so on both sides there is more work to be done but the one big thing is which is the best value for money and at the moment for me and for someone who is starting out in flight simulation must be X-Plane as the price is much cheaper than P3d and you don't have to pay extra for updates and there is a BIG X-Plane community out there making free stuff, that's not to put down P3d in any way anyway that's just my thoughts and no doubt a lot will not agree but I'm sure that we can all agree on is the quality and contents of your videos is outstanding.

    If you are a true simmer you need both P3D V4 is the way to go for commercial flight , where as X PLANE 11 is better whit flight dynamics for general aviation. This my honest bellies, of course I have both. But I must admit I am a P3D guy and I love the heavies .

      I did not find planes like Accusim birds in X-Plane, it is why I prefer Prepar3d. I just come to X-Plane to fly dreamfoil Bell 407 as helos suck in Prepar3D.

    • @FlightX101
      @FlightX101 5 років тому

      Thats the same viewpoint as mine.
      Hardcore IFR flights with Heavy Traffic and FMS use = P3D/FSX
      VFR Stick and Rudder = X-Plane for sure

  • @MrAlexCougar
    @MrAlexCougar 7 років тому +16

    My opinion is the best one for you it's wether you fly VFR or IFR mostly. XP is very good for GA since it's very good looking and you can fly VFR, while P3D is very good for airliners because there are the PMDG and FSLabs planes which pretty much cover the most used airliners now. P3D also has what I believe to be the best weather engine available (AS16), which is good for IFR flying but doesn't make that much of a difference in VFR. Out of the box XP 11 beats P3D v4 without any doubts, but the add ons available, especially planes, for P3D really make the difference.

    • @ysfsim
      @ysfsim 7 років тому

      Flight Simulation for visual weather, i would give that to as2016 for p3d but i feel the weather better in xplane. So if xplane gets pmdg level planes then what? But it does have sonme really good ones

    • @MrAlexCougar
      @MrAlexCougar 7 років тому

      ysfsim Then X-Plane will be the best platform, but it will take a long time to get the same number of planes of PMDG quality that are currently available for P3D in X-Plane and currently XP11 lacks the add on developer support that P3D has.

    Thanks for this video- I don't have either of the two sims you're discussing here (still on Dovetail's FSX) but I like the XPlane visuals a lot better. For example, on the external view of the XPlane 172, the anti-collision beacon can be seen rotating (!) and pulsing (OMG!) realistically, whereas in the external views of the P3D Bonanza it looks like FSX without the Shockwave Lights addon- the beacon is completely occluded (dark) on the left side and (presumably, you didn't show any right-side views) visible only on the starboard side of the aircraft, which is a total immersion-killer. Something I wish you had discussed is the price (last time I looked P3D was hundreds of dollars) and the availability of mods and addons- I have tons of addons in my FSX and without some of them I just wouldn't want to fly.

    Hey Q8 - I was mesmerized by your XPlane 11 Settings - let me ask you something: are you using one big monitor?
    I...or rather 'we' have three, 37 inch Monitors, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, and a PC that was custom built for gaming in JAN 2017 I can't remember details about the PC itself (I'm at work) but I can tell you the cost for just the PC was way north of $1500.
    The reason I mention any of this to you is that in spite of the expensive PC, the highly rated graphics card, I can't move the
    Antialiasing above the minimum - without having serious fps issues. And all the other settings I have currently are the same as yours.
    I guess I am wondering if I should scrap the three tv's and go with one big one?
    Curious as to your thoughts on the subject.

    Very helpful comparison, though I'm so heavily invested in XP - there is only one thing that is tempting me to buy P3D - the PMDG 737 NGX. What I'd really like to know is, for the purpose of the flying this aircraft only, is P3D really worth the significant extra cost over FSX. Even the PMDG is more expensive for that platform - is it actually any different than the FSX version?

    5:50 Regarding the reference about the human brain and how its processes letters when reading. I believe you are quite correct, in that as a beginner we read words one letter at a time, however as we develop our skills we recognize the letters as a whole word, just like a photograph of an object. This concept is the basis of speed-reading wherewith you can read an entire book in a matter of minutes. Therefore when reading, regarding speed & retention, you're better off recognizing the letters as a picture-word.

    Good video, you showed a lot of useful information that pertain to many aspects in both simulators and it was very helpful when you showed how both simulators affect performance on the CPU, GPU. Assuming both simulators are 64-bit, running on a 64-bit Windows platform, it appears that X-Plane 11 did a better job in providing the utilization spread throughout all 8 cores of the CPUs, the GPU, and memory, whereas P3D may still have the same traits that were apparent in the various versions of FSX, it may not necessarily mean that P3D is inefficient in the use of system's resources, it could just be it is using them for the best possible results. There were also a couple things you could have added that would have been helpful.
    1) The versions of both simulators - Are they the base versions, or ones that are priced higher? (ie P3D Academic, Professional, etc.)
    2) In performance, were you able to measure the frame-rates in both simulators? If so, what was the average FPS on both?
    Thanks in advance.

    I attended the FlightSimCon last summer. There were obviously representatives from each software.
    Austin Meyer was strong, and boasted about upgrades to the physics, scene items, plugins, aircrafts etc. He promised a lot for the upcoming year, and some of those came true already. The BIG thing im waiting for is their big reveal with VR, where you are able to control every little button and switch with your Vive or Rift controller. I know theres already a 3rd part software that does this but its not as good as X-planes demo and what they promised. Im honestly waiting for that to be released to get x-plane as thats the only way ill probably fly once it comes out.
    The P3D guy was kinda in the corner shy and quite; He kept things general and answered questions vaguely. I think since P3D doesn't present themselves as a "Commercial Entertainment for everyone" kind of product they just sent some guy to at least have somebody there, but we are not the market they are trying to appeal to.

    Great Video. I am long time FSX user, never tried P3D, now thinking it might be time to try something else.
    I have tried the X-Plane 11 demo to check compatibility with an older computer and try a few different things in 5 minute bites. Initially I was impressed until I tried flying in rainy weather when frame rates dropped to unusable levels so I gave it up and stayed with FSX
    Last week I decided to give it another go and try some different things. Firstly how the plane handles which is important for me as a former pilot. X-Plane 11 has done a really nice job ensuring the aeroplane responds to control inputs so for instance full aft movement of the control yoke results in full nose up control of the plane regardless of where the trim is. Another nice feature is in FSX with the engines shut down moving the propeller pitch lever visibly moves the propeller pitch. This does not happen in real life and does not happen in X-Plane 11
    I think I know what way I'm going to go when I finally do upgrade so thanks for the good video comparing the features of both

    Hi Q8! I am currently using XPlane 11 and I think it's amazing, however I'm just slightly bummed by the lack of attention from the main stream scenery / aircraft developers. So I was interested in investing in P3D. However, before I do, I wanted to know what performance in P3D was like on my system. At the moment on XPlane- I have world objects at maximum, maximum texture quality, high visual effects, minimal reflections, and 4x AA. I also have ambient occlusion and FFT water turned off. With these settings, I manage around 19-24 frames in dense areas like KLGA and 24-35 frames in lesser dense areas like YSSY. In some lucky areas like OMDB or YBCG I can manage over 40 frames. I have as a CPU, the Ryzen 1700, and the Radeon 580 GPU. If I get these frames in XPlane11, do you think I would get the same or even better frames in P3D with a payware aircraft like the PMDG 777? I am really interested in flytampas sceneries and wanted to see if I would get good frames in the 777 at flytampa Dubai. If you have read all this way I thank you for taking the time to read this obnoxiously long comment. Great video by the way!

      @@Q8Pilot Thanks for the quick response.
      I've been searching how X-P11 fares on programmed failures and ECAM features, and it seems that it has quite a bit of unfinished A320 model systems. Subsequently, I discovered some UA-cam channels that show they're working on P3D (like Blackbox711).
      Without taking much into consideration the graphics and focusing on ECAM functions instead, would you still recommend XP11 and Flight Factor A320 for practicing sim check profiles?
      Many thanks,
      Mike

    As long as there are no good 747, 777 and 787 I will still continue to use prepar3d. Also the payware Addon airports for prepar3d are better. But overall xplane is my favorite with ortho4xp and the amazing graphics. Can't really decide between these two.

    I watched this video as I am updating my xplane 11 to three displays and wondered what I might be missing by not using Prepared. If I may add a couple of thoughts.
    I would have preferred the sims to be "out of the box" without any add-ons. The reasoning being I want to compare two sims not the extra software they are running. For instance you made a comment about thunderstorms and the differences between the two sims but really was this a difference between the two add-ons? I was left in doubt.
    A similar comment could be made for out of the box comparison for weather, scenery and airports. I like to fly round the world trips so these three elements are interesting for out of the way places rather than the big multi-runway prime airports.
    I would have preferred you to be flying the same aircraft type in each sim. One element I also miss with sim reviews is how does the simulated aircraft handle compared to the real thing? I know this is a big ask but I often feel that simulated handling is often mickey-mouse compared to real life. By handling I mean in the air, not do I have to follow the correct sequence of switching to start the engine though that is important. You could give each sims take on say a small Cessna or an airliner what about stall speed, max speed and fuel consumption.
    Finally Osamah another interesting video so thank you for taking the time to put it on UA-cam.
    PS I’ll stick with xplane.

    For VR, any of them at the moment. Maybe xplane with vulkan in the near future (we'll see the performance gain). Currently in VR I only fly FS2 aerofly. It is the only flight simulator that gives me constant 90fps. I really need that smoothness to have the feeling of flying.
    P3D must improve a lot its code if they want to live in the VR world.

    • @lastsonofktn
      @lastsonofktn 5 років тому

      100% agree with this. As light in the game as Aerofly is compared to the others, they just don't touch it when it comes to their vr code. Feels and flys brilliantly. Not sure of the flight modeling but the effect surely is there.

    I like your video here, but I am looking at an answer to my question as in, what should I choose if I would be upgrading from fsx. I kinda feel bad having to miss alot of the planes, scenery and tools I got running in fsx, not at the same time ofcourse, that kinda is the problem I run in to when it comes to the need of upgrading, but will I get a comparable system for the lowest amount of money to invest.
    Prepar3d costs 200 dollars, but it offers me alot of addons I allready have and can run in prepar3d or can upgrade for a special price or even better offer a 64 bit version as a free upgrade, so investing max. 1000 euro in this will give me a system I know and like allready.
    Switching to x-plane seems to be even cheaper, but none of my addons will work and I won't get any free upgrades, I may be able to get a special deal, but not all the addons I currently own for fsx has got x-plane versions and I don't know if there are any x-plane addons for that function available.
    I have to agree with you that judging from this video, x-plane seems to be the better deal, but it also feels like I would regret this pretty soon.
    Now about a different issue, do you know if x-plane or prepar3d support SLI?

  • @jayyzee84

    I'm a P3D fan. Never tried x-plane 11, but the scenery looks really good. love the runway slope. Is it just me, or does the runway look low res on x-plane? i prefer p3d because of 3rd party addons and a lot more payware aircrafts and the fact that its easier to interface any buttons or switches to my cockpit.
    That being said, VFR in Xp looks great, especially the night time, and moving traffic. will definitely try it out for GA.

    X-Plane is the place to be! I Saw a recent video showing some of the native VR enhancements that they are introducing and was just blown away. Orbx was going to work with X-Plane but then pulled out. I often wonder if Orth4XP had anything to do with this? From what I'm reading many FSX stalwarts are moving to X-Plane. Even Active Sky has an X-Plane weather engine in development - something I'm very excited about! :)

      The human brain processes each letter as an image and then assembles an image of C A T which then translates to the picture of a cat. This is exactly why a picture is worth a thousand words.

    For those who want ortho4xp functionality in p3d (any version) and fsx, checkout fsearthtiles and/or sbuilderx along with sceneproc. You can create super high resolution satellite imagery alongside accurately placed autogen trees and buildings based on real-life Open Street Map data. It's a myth that one has to spend a lot of money to make default p3d and fsx terrain look amazing... there is also tileproxy if you don't want to make the scenery since it downloads the satellite tiles as you fly. I'm not sure if it works with p3d though.

    Hello ossamah, excellent video. In the latter, you touched on the subject of the display or the platform of the flight simulators. Me Personally and as a gamer, I see that the criteria on which we choose the best simulator are (maximum frame and minimal blurry terrain).
    I really wish X-Plane and ORBX would work together. If they do, I will definitely stop playing P3D.

    Around 9:30 while describing XP 11's control of visuals/rendering options and you preferred to have a Tickbox(checkbox) under "Show Parked Aircraft" that gave you more advanced options, one of which would be to give us a choice to assign which aircraft I want to see. I know XP 11 has the option to select AI aircraft, but for some reason they don't give you the option of choosing the aircraft you want to see parked, and you end up with regional aircraft (like the CRJ700 or the MD8x) showing up under the Alitalia logo at airports in the United States like Phoenix's KPHX, which we know that doesn't happen in real life. So if we had a better choice of options to display parked aircraft and/or airlines that would certainly be better.

    It's only a matter of time before P3D is out of the equation. They can adjust the code all they want. It's still based on software that was developed more then 10 years ago. There's only so much time left on the clock while Xplane devs have improved a lot. I have tons of add-ons for the fsx steam edition. PMDG, ORBX, Active Sky, payware airports and scenery BUT that's all there is to it. XP11 looks and feels great out of the box. I'm hoping PMDG will port over their airliners to XP11 and other add-on makers will follow suit and i'm all in love! I already prefer XP11 out of the box compared with FSX even with expensive add-ons added to the list.

    You spend a lot of time on interface in the beginning, it could be said in seconds. And it was quite unclear from a newcomer perspective just how much you have purchased extra of what we are seeing. If what we are seeing is all extra then it's not really a comparison of the games/sims.
    In X plane, I'm puzzled at how relatively demanding the plane simulation is to the point that I'm not sure it's doing it right. Particularly when applying brakes rolling on the runway, it seems to be semiflying and braking is intermittent, even when rolling completely calmly near zero speed, I can hear the brakes pulsing.
