I stopped watching any of the Motor Trend uploads about 4-5 years ago or so when its management lost its mind (think Carlos and Jason) but this got me to take a look, I've missed Jonny and can't get enough of the C8.
Never been a corvette fan but this one is winning me over. Absolutely love that track, drove it several times during the Bondurant days. The section coming out of the oval into the lake loop is so much fun if you have a car that likes attacking curbing.

A Speedway Composites Chassis X Strut Brace would significantly improve torsional rigidity and has proven to make the car feel less "greasy" in the turns. Big improvements in lap times.
Add up all the categories, average them out, and.. pinnacle? True or not, I think the Corvette has climbed the performance car ladder faster and better than any other car from the mostly show/hardly go late 70's/early 80's.

@@kristoferfc6525 Yes the Camaro is a great handling car, great chassis. However you can't see out of it that well! Poor visibility. Nice old school pushrod super charged engine making nigh power! The hot Cadillacs are great too!
@@user-mc3pk2wp6x have you driven one? I've driven 7 of them, saw out of them just fine but I'm also 6'3" so maybe that helps

The problem with this gem is the dealers mark ups and overpricing market adjustments.
Yup, makes me want the car, but why would I pay for something that is 70k in mark up? I brought a Hertz 2019 Z06 for 62K and 28k in miles
And I'm a big fan of the Blackwing.
GMs performance vehicles have been knocking it out of the park. Sad the Camaro never really got the advertising it deceived.

I have no illusions the GT3 and GT3 RS and wonderful track cars however, they do not possess the engineering sophistication to match a ZO6 in all phases of road use. Spend an hour in a GT3 or GT3 RS on a European or American road and the truth will be revealed. Bottom line is this: if you can only own one sports car for track, daily driving or cross-country trips then the answer is a ZO6. However, if I want a sports car that has only one purpose to carve up tracks then the answer is GT3 RS.

@@cliffsimms8520No he isn’t. As good as the RS sounds, this sounds better and pulls harder. Plus it is much quieter and you don’t have to wear teeth protection while driving it to avoid cracking. 😊 RS is track-only in my view and it’s great at it, but impossible to get and not really worth 2x the price of the Z06 imo.

Timeless, with all of the aero and the wing? Nah. Also dies not sound better unless you have trouble hearing.

Not sure what you'd buy to get a better value. All three models of the C8 Corvette - including the upcoming ERay (which I'll have soon) - are incredible sports cars for 1/2 to 1/3 the price of any possible competitors!
I got mine for 120k. The problem is that people waited too long until they saw videos of the car then decided they want one, but it was too late. Saw all the markups then say the car isn't worth it lol. People should've gotten on the list way sooner. I got on the list in 2020. Because i knew this car would be special and i was right.
At MSRP this car is worth the money. With the ridiculous ADM’s, it’s not. Justify paying that however you want, but this car is not worth anywhere near the $200k I often see them listed as.
They haven’t been selling at 200K for quite some time outside of Mecum, which is where the mega rich folks go to overbid. Markups are much closer to earth nowadays
All cars are overpriced today. A 200k z06 with the performance it achieves and what you get is more justifiable then paying 400k+ for a brand new ferrari, porsche or lambo.
Its worth even 200k only if you compare it to rivals. Otherwise, its worth what GM prices it.
I got a brand new one yesterday at $150,000 . It is so mean to say the least.

C8 vettes became boring like v8 ferraris. I still think the previous c7 z06 engine sounds way better than this and even the looks with traditional front engine rear wheel drive looks way cooler than the c8. R.I.P Corvettes.
You think the lt2 with a blower sounds better than the lt6? Nah thats just a bad take. To say the corvettes are boring when theyre dominating the competetion doesnt make a whole lot of sense either
This z06 is a car you gota hear in person. It sounds way better than any vette ever made. And i drove most of them. The high revving, rapid downshifts make it feel like you’re in a race car. The c7 z06 does not have anywhere near the same characteristics
@@TheilliterateLibrarian agreed, drove a c7 z06 for 4 years and 90k miles, and have almost 10k miles on my c8 z06. The c7 was good but the c8 is a significant step up, especially the sound. Gotta love the low end torque of the c7 z06 though. I would not go back to that car though from the c8 z06, handling is tons better too. I did ridealongs on the track in both cars and the sound of the c8 takes peoples breath away, they gush over the sound, was not like that in the c7 z06. I know some prefer the small black sound, but they are definitely in the minority, I know from real world experience, it isn't even close.
@@snoopyapocalypse exactly. Totally agreed. The ones that are in the minority havent even heard the car in person. The sound doesnt do it justice over a video speaker.

R8 runs just as fast, same quarter mile times.
An R8 gets out run on a circuit by a C8 Stingray. This Z06 would leave it for dead.
Latest R8 is 4 or 5 SECONDS A LAP SLOWER at VIR. Not even in the same league. A R8 is slower than a CT4V Blackwing.
I believe he meant as fast from light to light...or at least school cross walk to cross walk....
If you’re buying this car for 1/4 mile times you’re doing it wrong.

Ok. And how would you go about getting one? If you haven’t bought several high-dollar Porsches they will not even talk to you, and even if you have you still have to get on a list with lots of markup. The RS is even worse, with even more markup. And in multiple track comparisons, the Z06 has yet to lose to a GT3 and in one (so far) test the RS beat it on a high speed track where its active aero DRS carried the day by 0.6 seconds. For double the price. So add aftermarket DRS to the Z07 to get similar downforce if you’re gonna track it, boom. Problem solved.
@@markw9512How did DRS “carry the day” when the Z06 still has less downforce? The Z06 didn’t lose because it had too much drag 😂 it lost because it had too little downforce 😂
@@markw9512sooo… what you’re saying is the high downforce carried the day… aaand how does simply adding a DRS system to the Z06 (which doesn’t add downforce) help it go any faster, when the reason it got beat by a car with over 150 LESS hp and over 100 LESS ft/bs was because of its lack of downforce? It would be faaar cheaper to add 150 hp via FI to the Porsche than it would be to add 3X the downforce to the Chevy. One of the reasons Porsches are expensive compared to Chevys is the engineering involved. We are waaay beyond the “slap on a bigger front lip and a bigger wing out back” “boom, problem solved” mantra…
@@billymays7210Right, but the point was that with the GT3 RS’s massive aero and DRS, and a pro driver behind the wheel, it was only able to eek out a lap that was 0.6 seconds faster than the Z07 at Big Willow. The Z07 put down a lap faster than it at Magny Cours earlier this year, and that was the detuned European version. The 992 GT3 RS is a MAGNIFICENT car, and an absolute scalpel of a track weapon, do not get me wrong. The fact that Porsche’s own engineers/race drivers have problems telling the difference between it and the cup car is telling, and the RS produces MORE downforce than the race car.
However, we also can’t and shouldn’t mitigate and downplay the engineering that GM has put into not only the Z06, but the entire C8 lineup thus far. The E-Ray is a technological showcase, the Stingray put the car industry on its head, and the Z06 was literally co-developed with the C8.R race car, has the same engine but with more power, and from what I’ve heard and read, has A LOT of the characteristics of the race car. Despite being down on downforce compared to the GT3 RS, and not having DRS, the Z07 still trades blows with it, and was only 0.6 seconds slower at Willow Springs, despite its Cup tires essentially being ice skates due to the weather. And it was faster at another track. That’s impressive.
Both cars are amazing, and are a lot closer in track performance than people think, despite the results being right there.
@@danieldickerson4838 I agree with most of that, but it’s kind of annoying that all you ever hear is despite the price… despite the downforce… of the Corvette, but no one ever says despite being down 2 cylinders, 1.5 liters, over 150 hp and 100 ft/lbs, the Porsche still can trade blows with the Chevy…
As far as being close to their racing counterpart, maybe engine wise, the Z06 is, but when it comes to chassis/ steering feel, they are leagues apart. Not on the same planet as the RS. Pretty much every single article/ video talks about numb, vague steering. NO current race car has vague steering. Heck, even the Americans made a mid engine car with a sharper, more direct chassis, SEVEN years ago… Yes, I know… price, yada yada yada.
Anyone arguing that a Z07 isn’t the best VALUE is out of their mind.

It certainly is. Listening to videos isn’t a substitute for driving it. In person it sounds amazing.
All flat plane crank American cars sound awful. the GT350 sounded like hot garbage too.
