Aight so, can we all agree Sakurai is just holding back Kirby on purpose? I mean, Sakurai himself doesn’t care for competitive smash, so he probably doesn’t want to see his character everywhere. Sakurai has been called biased when any of the Kirby cast is decent, hell, people called him bias when Kirby was the one who survived SSBU WoL. Kirby, being the starter character, is made to be underwhelming, so you switch and try other characters in WoL.
I don’t think Kirby deserves to be held back on purpose, and I feel most people don’t realize he’s being held bad on purpose, as his current moveset doesn’t need a huge overhaul, it just needs a lot of buffs sadly.
Actually, kirby was made to be the most beginner friendly character, ideal for first timers (multiple jumps, simple jab, non complex tilts and smash attacks and decent run speed) so people could learn the basics of the game before jumping to more specialized characters.
As the game is first and foremost a party platform fighter, certain characters were made to be functional, not viable, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, Little Mac, Incineroar among others have certain niche in which they excel, while others like fox, meta knight, cloud or joker are clearly more geared to competitive. 1 v 1 fights.
Smash isnt the only game that does this, other fighting games also have characters with niche, experimental movesets that appeal to players that want to experiment, not to compete, while players that compete usually go for straighforward high tier characters.
Bloody Roar has characters like Stun (my main) and Busuzima, who arent exactly high tier, but have interesting movesets based on wrestling and confusion fu respectively, and OP Banned characters like Uranus and Chronos, for players that just want to have fun.
@@ayar2 I get Kirby’s underwhelmed and uninteresting kit comes from Kirby being the starter beginner character of the game. I’d argue Mario is still THE beginner character, the basic fighter, and he’s still amazing. He has all the basic tools and he still is better than Kirby by miles.
Kirby has simple tilts and smashes, and allowing to copy the Neutral Special lets players try and test out other characters movesets, like a sample of what other characters have to offer. I understand what you’re saying, and I get the points you’re making, but as one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises, I think the character deserves better, and that’s not even starting to think about how much potential his current kit has and how much potential his kit has taking into consideration how many different abilities he has, but that’s another topic for another comment
(p much I want smash to be revamped and have all the original fighters get updates and changes to make them feel more fresh and up to date. Mario with Cappy, Samus with Samus retunes counter or maybe a weapon change system, Kirby with more interesting and dynamic moves)
I guess I’m just against the design of “let’s make this character bad for the sake of being easy to learn” when Mario is already an easy and simple character to learn with a lot of depth. Like Ryu and Ken, across the entire series, they are at the very least decent, some great, some only ok, but they aren’t made to be “bad” but ig that’s comparing a traditional fighter to smash or a platform fighter.
@@vicctretamaj Ill also like for some updates to the moveset of some veteran fighters, including my main Samus, but I guess since Ultimate reused many assets in order to save time and resources, and dedicate those to the implementation of the new challengers, some sacrifices were made in order to make ultimate the. . , well,. . ultimate crossover,. at least they revamped most of the Final Smashes so they can properly kill (emphasis in "most").
Im glad I can at least charge in mid air, since Samus is so floaty, every time someone sends me flying, I have time to charge my beam, drink some tea and solve the newspaper crossword in my way down.
Kirby can't really be good anymore, his traits are so bit too hard to be used competitively
@@illford because Kirby was made mainly for casual play, I have noticed that many people that plays the game for the first time and dont have the intention to compete gravitates towards either Kirby or Yoshi.
Kirby after 64 was just the equivalent of someone being injured so bad that they were seemingly paralyzed for life but they actually got better after years of rehab but now they walk with a limp and can't bend down....

Here's a real overview of Kirby's viability from a Kirby main:
64: God
Melee: A mistake
Brawl: Decent Mid tier. Very solid.
Smash 4: Very mediocre
Ultimate: Good. Just a mid tier.
Kirby keeps rising with every patch, so I can't wait until this is outdated. He will rise into the meta again!

@a guy Nah, he only needs 3 core buffs: 1. Final Cutter 23>13. This will help him anti air reliably (catching jumps is one of Kirby's weaknesses). 2. Dair 18>12 This will buff Kirby's damage output and advantage state A LOT. He'll be like Luigi when he gets one grab. 3.Inhale swallow faf should be
@DJ Drizzy Didn't you know that In Ultimate he can become High or S Tier if he buffs his speed, air speed, weight and low jump that he jump a bit lower so he can combo with aerials But if they do this i will become a kirby main and stop Using Kirby as a secondary I use Ness, Lucas Because his a bit slow and bad ;-; But he will buff if the community do the right thing
@@vei4851 The buffs I listed would make him high tier at least. Kirby's jumps are already low and his weight is not a problem. He and Pikachu weigh the same, but nobody mentions buffing Pika's weight. Honestly, it sounds like you need to improve your Kirby skills before saying he's bad or suggesting unnecessary buffs. Brawl Kirby is the best Kirby since 64 because of hammer alone
- No more being useless in the air
- Don't have to worry about charging
- Easier to land hits offstage
Brawl Kirby is easily the most balanced of the five kirbys, which is why he's still the most fun to play (though i still love 64 Kirby obviously). He has two combo throws, by far the best hammer of the 4 kirby's, the most range outside of 64 Kirby, the best back air, and the second best air game outside 64 Kirby. I really hate the ground based gameplay smash 4 and ultimate Kirby decided to go for, I want to see a return to form.

12:55 Men, how I miss that hammer. A great air dodge punish because if the victim dodged he would get hit by an ever stronger hit. Nowadays is just an useless move.
Honestly, I don't think that design should be there as strongly as it is nowadays. Mario is a beginner character but has people doubting if he is high tier or top tier for example. Kirby just needs just a better movility (not even good, just better) and a not terrible Up B.
PS: It's just me or Sakurai does not threat well both his son (Kirby) and his stepson (Pit)? At least in competitive terms.

Final Cutter isn't terrible at all. It's a solid move that's only held back by start up.
It's bizzarre how bad his hammer was in melee, how good it was in brawl, and how bad it was from there on.
I miss brawl Kirby's hammer, it would've been amazing in a game like Ultimate
@@ignorantfoolartur9242 It was a great recover option and would have been great to use as a neutral/edge guarding tool. Really wish theu would at least make Ultimate hammer faster in the air, it's way too slow.

Been a Kirby main since brawl, where that iteration of Kirby is still my favorite. He's easily the most balanced of the 5 kirby's, which a major selling point, and has a lot more of the traits that made 64 Kirby great while still being a simple character. I'm defintely not a fan of the ground based gameplay smash 4 and ultimate Kirby forces you to play. I would love to see a return to form where Kirby becomes a threatening character in the air, as it's apparent this is the way he was meant to be played given how powerful he was in 64, and to a lesser extent brawl relative to melee, smash 4 and ultimate.
I don't see why Kirby has to choose between being a consistent low tier character and being a lovable, beginner friendly character. Why can't he be both simple to play at a low level, and extremely effective at the top level? This false dilemma presented to Kirbys design in smash is major proponent of why he's consistently suffering from title to title, unlike pikachu wh has been consistently effective. It wouldn't be hard at all to model Kirby after what made him so good in 64 (range, mobility, speed, power), while not making him as overpowered 🤷.
except kirby was broken in 64. His hitboxes weren't the definition of good. They were broken.

I'm a Kirby main that can destroy most other players, the key is learning against who to be aggressive and when to play the "slow game" especially against some super armour where a 1v1 trade will almost always kill Kirby before his opponent

I'll never stop playing Kirby period. Though this could be mostly because I don't play Smash competitively. But also because I just love Kirby as a character in general. I play Kirby in any game he's in tbh

@@vei4851 Just practice your dair rides, you'll get it eventually. The harder part is looping them, but getting one as a kill confirm is simple enough.

I would love for Kirby to get buffed but i understand why he won't. First off, I think the main reason Kirby isn't getting any buffs is because Sakurai doesn't want to give too much Kirby bias in smash which is why all the Kirby characters suck in ultimate. The 2nd reason why Kirby isn't getting any buffs is because he is essentially ment to be the tutorial character for smash bros and after you're done with the tutorial, you move onto the main game (that last statement hurts but unfortunately that's what Kirby is designed to be like). If I were to give him buffs, I would make it so that Kirby could become a low mid tier character so that he doesn't become to complicated for new smash players but also so that new smash bros players actually have a chance to win against other people. Another reason I would make Kirby a low mid tier is so that Kirby doesn't over sentralize the meta (like with pikachu, fox, meta knight, and bayo back then in their respective titles) that's just my opinion on the hole matter tho and you can feel free to disagree

“The greatest Mario in smash 4” Rather than trying to erase Ally’s existence, why don’t we acknowledge him and mention that he is an absolute a**hole. That way people can learn not to follow his example while not neglecting someone who admittedly, and unfortunately, had a big role in smash’s history
I get what you're saying, but also, it's not uncommon for people to use titles to refer to people instead of names, as a way to put the significance of something into perspective, for example I've heard lots of people say "The greatest LOL player in the world" instead of mentioning Faker, or instead of Mentioning Michael Jordan they say "the best basketball player in history" just not saying his name doesn't come off as erasure, but also it's not a bad thing that the scene is trying to distance itself from those people who have done bad things, they still acknowledged what he did, but didn't associate him by name if you want more people to come into the scene this is how it is done, by pruning the toxicity and distancing from it
What he said is a way to emphasize how important that win was, saying "he beat the best Mario in smash 4" has more force than saying "he beat Ally". And on top of that saying it that way also avoids the negative connotations about him

@@Snowballsage Link is actually pretty popular in low level smash. People who pick him up really enjoy his powerful, hard to punish smash attacks, spammable projectiles and easy to use recovery.

Love Kirby, but it's a shame he's only been great once and ok one other time, while being flat out bad three times. Even with all the buffs in Ultimate I still think he's bottom tier. His offense just still isn't good enough to compensate for being so light, slow, and stubby, in a game with such fast and explosive characters.
As someone who a huge fan of Kirby, no matter how good or bad he is, I'll always have fun playing him

things that kirby need as buffs : increase f-air's damage and decrease knockback, increase air speed and ground speed (if used speed art, so he can beat sonic in a race) and change hammer flip with the giant hammer but the damage he will take will be the same. And that's how kirby will be toooooooo OP

1:51 pikachu is a mouse. get it right
1. In the context of 64, many players refer to pika as rat, probably from disdain towards the top tier.
2. Pikachu was based on a squirrel. Look up original interviews with Atsuko Nishida. The tail is a lightning bolt squirrel tail and pika stores electricity in its cheeks like a squirrel does nuts. Only reason it's referred to as a mouse now is b/c they decided on the name pikachu which is onomatopoeia for a mouse squeak.

Kirby is so bad in Ult that you can't even play the game sometimes. I don't care how charming it appears to play a beginner character, it sucks when you can't actually play the character because they're so watered down for people who play Smash a handful of times in their life. I get that it wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to prioritize the minority that is the competitive scene but there has to be something they can do. I just want to be able to play my make again.

At this point I just feel like Nintendo made some of the overpowered characters, weak. At least that’s what I feel...excited for characters like Smash 4‘s Bayonetta and Ultimate’s Palutena...
