    I only RECENTLY Binge played the Mega Man series. As a kid, I didn't have the chance. Now I'm 41 and I've played through 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 9 and 10.
    Classic Mega Man was INCREDIBLE.

    Copy Robot has a pattern albeit a flawed one.
    1. He will jump when you will shoot
    2. There are three spots in the room from where he will shoot his projectile
    3. His jumps directions are randomized
    4. He will fire what weapon you have.
    5. He will not shoot if you are equipped with Super Arm or Magnet Beam

    one of my favorite vacation memories was trying to beat MM1 before my wife woke up each morning. After the 2nd morning i started to get the game down and on the 3rd morning i finally beat it within an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours. So fun

      The switch version does offer save states which is nice, but the game clearly wasn't designed with that in mind.

    My short review:
    Mega Man 1 pretty much defined what Mega Man should be. Difficult, challenging and learning. There are some rough edges here and there. Some stages do not have good designs. Some bosses lack feesible patterns. Wily 1 is impossible for wrong reasons. Some bosses are unfair. However it is still fun to play.

    I love this series and I really do think this game has a very specific charm of it own. I think 7/10 is fair. Most people rate this game low because it's not Mega Man 2 or 3 but if you play this game you will have a good time.

    Great video, although item management for Resident Evil comes from RPGs like Dragon Quest or Ultima. I would say this is a reverse case compared to Castlevania where that game was fully formed out of the gate.

    You know what, I guess it is an interesting time to say this. How about opinions on Main Robot Masters. I will just go by numbered order. Scores aren't to be taken as a stone carving.
    1. Cut Man: So Cut Man is an interesting case. Cut Man has a very mysterious pattern. I love the way how his rolling cutter homes on you. It feels like a ball dance. There however two major flaws with this fight. He takes way too much damage and his knockback. Unless you are going for a no miss run, it will be over before you start to have fun. Also his sprite is lackluster. And weakness is okay at best. Super Arm isn't a good weapon and naturally the boss weak against this weapon is going to suffer. 4.5/10
    2. Guts Man: Guts Man also has a very good flow to his fight. This was the most creative Bossfight at it's time and I believe it even predates SMB3's Roy and Ludwig fights. It is simple but it works. But he is random and the weakness sucks so bit of a minus. 5.5/10
    3. Ice Man: Ice Man, in my opinion, is way too hectic. It makes the players panic which is the last thing in Mega Man. With that being said, it is totally doable. I also like how this fight actually has a difficulty curve as his Ice Slasher gets faster as long as you are in the fight. So this punishes the player for sucking and I can admire that. However I think they deal way too much damage. 8 damage should have been enough. This in my opinion is a huge strike against this boss as it teaches you by killing you. And weakness is okay but I wished it only did 4 damage. And sprite work is lacking. 4.0/10
    4. Bomb Man: Bomb Man is a candidate for the best RM in the game. He only has one attack and I wish he had more, but it works really well. He throws a Bomb at you, at your place at just the right speed and you have to dodge it. And when they hit they make a perfectly sized explosion. His jumps can be manipulated by you and it brings life to the fight. He actually feels like a fight. This bossfight also has to have one of the better sprite works in the game. He has like 4-5 sprites but they do not feel laggy. They feel natural. And the weakness, it's okay, not great but okay. My only two problems are that his design sucks and he is just too easy and short. 6.5/10
    5. Fire Man: Opposite of Bomb Man. His pattern is very erratic. And again his fight makes you panic which sometimes is good but not here. And the fires deal way too much damage for what they are. But once you know exactly what to do, he becomes a Toad Man. The saving grace of the fight is his weakness, but then again it doesn't make that much of a difference. 1.5/10
    6. Elec Man: Elec Man does have a pattern but it is a very flawed one. He is way too fast and his attacks hurt way more that they should. Also I didn't brought this up with Ice Man but all bosses in this game take 2 damage. Besides of course the two hard ones. This is one of the few fights where I would actually lower his HP and damage output. And he also has a manipulatable AI and I was never a fan of that. Weakness is awkward as well. Atleast sprite is good. 2.0/10

    As you said, Mega Man is a game definitely worth at least trying. It's a crucial piece of not just the franchise's history but the history of Capcom specifically and video games generally. Of course, it's not the best entry point for anyone wanting to get into the series, but it's key to better appreciating what came after.

    I think it's important to understand that THEY KNEW you were going to die so much that the only incentive not to die was the irrelevant score system. No one understood the score, nor cared - nor missed it when they removed it in MM2.
    The unlimited continues mean they can put you in ridiculously difficult situations and you'll keep dying, only you can keep retrying as much as possible.
    Using a life to replay doesn't refill your weapon energy.
    Using a continue refills your lives and weapon energy.
    Without that fact: Yellow Devil might be impossible.
    The balancing in the game is WAY OFF. The megabuster can deal with most enemies, but some bosses will kill you in a pinch if you don't have their weakness - which means you ABSOLUTELY MUST cheat by getting information on how to take down bosses in order: Guts Man, Cut Man, Elec Man, Ice Man, Fire Man, Bomb Man.
    Then you must do the boss rush and use Bomb Man's weapon against Guts Man - and repeat the order of weapon use against the specific bosses.
    I appreciate the later games which placed more emphasis on the mega buster. By 5 and 6, you probably can defeat bosses using charged megabuster shots or autofire faster than using the boss' weakness weapon.
    The magnet beam was replaced by items in MM2 and later by Rush in MM3 - and further replaced by a JETPACK in MM6. The problem I see with the items is the lack of explanation. There were weapons like the magnet beam with NO Explanation - but there are also fire plumes that can be frozen with ice slasher - yet you ARE NOT TOLD THAT. Because switching from weapon to weapon is tedious (until MM10), you may just run with the megabuster as long as possible since it's infinite energy and in many cases more efficient.

    • @MeguhFan
      @MeguhFan  Рік тому

      I never considered how the score system could've been put in as a tricky way to motivate players.
      I agree that the game is nearly impossible if you don't know the boss order, and the trial and error needed to figure it out goes beyond what normal gamers would call fun.

    • @PassportBrosBusinessClass
      @PassportBrosBusinessClass Рік тому +1

      @@MeguhFan So many things in the game are poorly explained. The little blue/orange pellets are score boosters for example. I didn't understand them because they don't automatically increase your score - they increase your score at the end of the round.
      The points are irrelevant and make no sense outside of an arcade game - which Mega Man could never be.
      The true motivation is unlimited continues. Even then, the first two games are too difficult - although MM2 addressed this with E-Tanks and Passwords which can help you get back to the hard spot full of energy for help if you need a do-over.
      The games get progressively easier with the ability to hold more E-tanks, M-Tank or W-tank ...and then you have a mega buster which is more effective against most enemies. Mega Man 9 and 10, I found it easiest to just use my megabuster on autofire.
      MEGA MAN 2's biggest problem is that the Boo Beam Trap and the ALIEN can't be defeated by the mega buster. After that game, all the games made the mega buster powerful enough to deal with any enemy - even at greater difficulty.

    I enjoy megaman 1, there are just few annoying or unpolished sections, disapearing blocks and guts man platforms for example, but overall it is fun to play, I personally use save states because I don’t really like replaying the same section over and over

    I have much nostalgia for this game but it is a bit less polished then the future games and you have to do certain things in order to get anywhere (which sort of defeat the purpose of the free choices). I also think that the game is a bit more difficult for wrong reasons compared to many of the other games.
    With that said. I still love it. I think they did many things right and was way ahead most games of the time. With the difficulty.. I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner either. I'd probably play at least three of the other games first so the transition to this might be easier.

    lmao
    Things people don't like in Mega Man 101: Yoku Blocks and moving platforms.
    I don't agree with the critique of elec mans stage magnet beam issue. There's clearly a separate path that you can take if you have an ability to get there and a hidden item. Also you can go back to elec mans stage and use his own weapon to get it, making taking the separate path possible and more fun the 2nd time on a stage where you MIGHT have to replay it, anyway. Great stuff by them for forcing people into a way to figure out how the weapons work. Wily 1 does a great job with that with the fire and the blocks in the way of the building to start out with.
    Also you can just zip into the wall in elec man like a speed runner.
    Also Wily never planned on him getting past the Yellow Devil really, and especially not a clone of himself, ESPECIALLY after fighting 2 robot masters previously. That's why there's no great machine at the end really, and why there's no trap floor. He didn't plan on failing.
    I'd say that mega mans movement actually feels perfect in every regard, outside of that little "slip" that exists in mm1 and kind of in 2 when you stop movement without jumping.
    Genuinely Thanks for not talking about the box art.
    I'd agree that 2/3/4/6 are better, but mm1 is the best game ever basically. If the other games never existed, people would say that Mega Man 1 is the 3rd best game on the NES, behind LOZ and SMB3, and it would be put on most top game lists of all time. People wouldn't know about mm2 doing it better overall. If mega man X and just X existed as the only true sequel, perhaps people would put this game down a bit, but there's a lot of people who prefer mm1 over mmx if you can believe that.

    • @MeguhFan
      @MeguhFan  Рік тому

      Hmm..I never thought about Wily not expecting Mega Man to get past eh Yellow Devil. That's interesting lore theorizing.
      I too have thought about how how much different the series could've been if the series skipped a few releases and called Mega Man X the next numbered entry. I think the franchise could've gotten much larger, but I also like all the nes games, so it's a weird thought.

    • @robmoore3176

      @@MeguhFan Mega Man 2 he has a trap floor and the alien thing where you can only beat it by getting the machine that's running it wet I guess so you cause an electric fire. MM3 he puts refights BEFORE you fight his robot, then you go fight him. Was surprised there wasn't a "trap" but that would have been silly and the players would have thrown their controllers. MM4 he gets someone else to do it before crushing you after the 8 robot refight and then you get to actually fight a saucer of his, but he knew he may fail, so he saved up some money kidnapping cossacks daughter and making him foot the bill and made sure to have his REAL saucer there to escape after setting up a self destruct button. MM5 wily tried to frame proto man but he had to buy all that stuff and set that up, but he says he didn't think that Mega Man would beat the Dark Robot, so he clearly didn't plan out the mm5 ending as well as others. Having 2 phases to fight at the end of the game makes sense as a change of pace (mm4 has 2 phases after refights, mm5 has 1) and that Wily didn't have a backup plan really, the only reason he won was because the castle started to explode and he was able to escape because mega man saved him basically, then proto saves mega again. I'll skip mm6 because you haven't had a video of that yet.
