    Great Video. Just bought one of these so needed a bit of help. Noticed you did a few things different to the books tho. Like being over 250 knots at one point under 10,000. Overall all 3 helped a lot so thanks.

    Terrific video series, thank you! That's a nice looking small jet. Maybe good its a good jet for a simmer like me who has only flown GA prop planes till now? I'm sure your passenger had a very comfortable and enjoyable ride, and a smooth landing! :)

    Tim,
    Love your videos. Nice eye candy and a nice, laid back approach, while keeping everything informative and realistic.
    Looking forward, I know you said you'd like to do a flight in the Citation X. If you'd like, the charter group I operate in fsx would love to lend you one of our birds (the repaint, of course) for your video. N128GW and N704RC were both painted up by a great repainter (credit goes to Jon Preston) and I've flown hundreds of hours in 4RC alone. They're both based at KMRY. Feel free to drop me a message, and I'd be happy to get you some pictures...
    Great vids!
    Keep em coming!
    Evan

    This is the first video by you I've watched and I am very impressed. A huge improvement over the other vids out there. I'm attempting learn to learn the Phenom and from your instructions, I think I have a chance. BTW, how did you get rid of that horrible windscreen reflection of the 'crew'? It's driving me nuts Thanks so much for all the work you've put into these vids.

    Great video as always. I followed along the whole way... the only issue i had is when i activated the ILS, it was 180 degrees rotated. have you ever seen that before?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  4 роки тому

      I have seen that before. I think it had to do with something like using the slew command to relocate the aircraft. Check the AVSIM User Forums for excellent information on these types of Carenado issues.

    Great video thx, thx for the exterior views periodically throughout your flight, enjoy that. Some pilots stay glued to the cockpit & never take moment to enjoy the views.
    I do have question, I got some Overspeed caution when flying recently & think I may have done some damage to an engine or something. After i got a couple overspeed caution indicators/messages I started getting a loud beeping in the cockpit similiar to morse code. Its real annoying & I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the beeping tones. I have a feeling its related to my Overspeed issues, are you familiar with these beeps and if so can you advise me how to get rid of them if/when they occur? The beeping occurred every 5-8 seconds after the Over speed caution had occurred. Thanks for any & all your help.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Hey Storkman, what your describing sounds exactly like the identifier tone for a Nav aid. Check your audio panel and see if you have the Nav 1 or 2 selected . It is normal procedure to identify a Nav aid when first tuned to make sure the station is being received and is operational. When flying an ILS I use to leave the tone singing softly in the background to be sure the station transmitter didn't crap out. With so much GPS we are getting away from VOR and NDB navigation. I am going to do a future series concentrating in radio navigation. Hope this was helpful. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    • @storkman
      @storkman 9 років тому

      Thx FS Mania, your probably correct. I was in another flight recently in the Embraer Phenom & didn't get the tones so I probably bumped a switch accidentally previously. I do have another question though ref the PFD & the Nav status box, specifically lower section as the manual refers to as annunciators for AP system. I couldn't find anything in the manual that addressed the different abbreviations that will show up on that lower section was hoping you could help explain.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Hi Storkman, the status of the autopilot is indicated near the top of the PFD and MFD. Depending on what modes are selected you will see: ROL for Roll (wings level), PIT for Pitch, HDG for heading (adjusted with heading bug) VS = vertical speed, ALTS = altitude select, VOR = navigation is using a tuned VOR, APR = approach mode, GPS = navigation is using the GPS mode, YD = Yaw Damper. If the display is in green letters means it is active. If the display is white letters means it is armed. Hope that helps, Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    excellent videos but i have few questions please .. what do you use for descending ? VS or VNAV ? and i'm using fs2004 and i can't adjust the full flight plan alone it needs to be done through the fs flight plan

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  6 років тому +1

      Hi Mohamed, On Carenado's version of the Phenom 100 their VNAV function is not modeled. I calculate my Top of Descent (TOD) based on my ground speed, altitude, ,distance remaining, and desired vertical speed (the old school manual way). I use the VS function of the autopilot to manage the descent. There are better navigators (3rd party) on the Flight Sim market that have functional VNAV you can purchase. More information available in the AVSIM Forums. Hope that helps. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    watching your video's I have notice that you land almost half way down the runway, I thought you were supposed to land at the point of the piano keys.. just asking but other than that good video's

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      michael pook Oh well,, chalk it up to low time in type and some airplanes float in ground effect more than others,, so I'll use that for a lame excuse for a mediocre landing. You should however, check out my videos of flights into Courchevel, Lukla, and Saba. I had to plant those landings on the numbers due to crazy short runways. Anyway, hope you'll stay tuned for more, maybe I'll get better. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

      +George Stevens Hi George, I use to use "Radar Contact" years ago. It worked well functionally but I don't like the robotic voices between pilot and controller. I pretty much make up my own ATC on FS MaNiA flights. I add in recorded real world ATC from the area I am flying to enhance the realism. I record the ATC from LiveATC.net . Hope that helps. Normal for "LOC" and "GS" to remain as White color vs turning Green after capture? Carenado support not helpful.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  3 роки тому

      White indicates “armed” and green indicates “ captured”. Carenado is not known for accurate avionics modeling or customer support. I try not to buy their products anymore. They offer a large variety of aircraft with a business model that focuses on quantity over quality.

    Another nice video Tim. I'm new to flying this aircraft so I am learning. I'm used to flying the 737NGX IFR and have a lot of time in it. (I've made about 40+ training videos on it here ua-cam.com/users/rfresh1011) A question I had was flaps on the ILS approach: so your initial flaps is 10 and then at some point during the approach you put out another notch. Is there a specific point in the ILS for that second notch? On the 737NGX we put out specific flaps at specific points along the ILS. Also, where do you get your Vref speed from? I didn't see anything in the glass that told me what your Vref speed should be (I'm new to the G1000 so I am still learning it). And last question: how do you calculate when to start your descent? In the 737NGX the FMS tells me but in this a/c I guess you have to calculate it yourself yes?

      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      +Ralph Freshour Hi Ralph, sorry for the delayed response here. For some reason your comment was flagged as "possible spam" and required my approval to be posted. I just now ran across your comment.
      I checked out a few of your videos. I really like your work! What a great recourse for 737NGX pilots! I have the PMDG 737NGX in my virtual hanger and will do a feature video on that aircraft on my channel at some point. I will definitely review your videos in my research phase prior to producing those videos.
      If you haven't yet figured this out,,, Carenado does not model their aircraft anywhere near the level of PMDG. The real world Garmin G1000 has a way more capabilities than Carenado models. Also, some of the features Carenado do model aren't modeled exactly correct. This is just a fact of life flying the more complex Carenado aircraft. The AVSIM forums are full of Carenado haters due to this business practice. I accept Carenado's aircraft for what they are. Very nice graphics with dumbed down aircraft systems and avionics.
      Another issue with Carenado is a lack of documentation for flying the aircraft. They give you a few checklist and that's about it. A flight tutorial would be a nice addition, but alas, Carenado doesn't see it that way. On the Phenom 100, to be honest, most of my procedures are me "winging it" (no pun) and flying "seat of the pants" in terms of flap settings. I typically try to research aircraft I feature using real world checklist, searching forums, and Google to name a few. The problem with the Carenado aircraft is that much of what happens in the real world plane doesn't necessarily happen in the Carenado version. Therefore, you are left to figure out what works best with what Carenado gives you. A fair amount of trial and error.
      The Garmin G1000 does have a feature to set the V1, Vr, V2, Vso,Vref, Vsse, etc. speeds. I just finished a video series on the Flight1 version of the King Air B200 which is equipped with a well modeled King Air specific G1000. The V speed feature is well modeled in this aircraft and I used it for takeoff and landings. I am pretty sure the real world G1000 provides some form of Vnav, however, no such capability on the Carenado version (that I can recall). The Flight1 King Air G1000 models the Selected Altitude Intercept Arc (Banana) which is helpful for monitoring the descent. Mostly flying these smaller jets, I use the old school method of calculating TOD by dividing total descent/descent rate fpm x miles per minute to determine how far out to descend.
      I am getting ready to do a feature video on the newly released Carenado 300. I have all of the real world POH and G1000 manuals. It will be interesting to see how much of the avionics and systems are accurately modeled. There are some great guys over at AVSIM that routinely correct the coding on Carenado's aircraft to help the aircraft behave more accurately. I usually try to apply as many of the corrections as possible to keep as much realism as possible in the video.
      Bottom line is Carenado is no PMDG, and I think they are okay with that. They release a lot of aircraft that look great and are somewhat simple to fly. The more complex aircraft have more issues for pilots who want PMDG level accuracy. I pretty much accept this is how Carenado operates and they have a place in the market for the sim pilots that don't know or don't care how the real aircraft should operate. I am just glad we have as many add-on aircraft to choose from as we do because I love to fly them all.
      Wow!! That was a long response! I really appreciate your comments and questions. I hope this helped to give you some insight to the Carenado products. You can learn a lot more by checking out the "Unofficial Carenado Support Forum" at AVSIM.
      Thanks much for checking us out at FS MaNiA! Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    • @rfresh1011
      @rfresh1011 9 років тому

      Thanks for the response Tim. Yeah, I'm learning that the G1000 isn't modeled very well on the Carenado Phenom 100. I've looked at your King Air B200 videos and note their G1000 is much better modeled.
      I bought the factory G1000 training CD to help me learn how it works. I also took an online G1000 training course.
      I am a real pilot (Comm, Int, ME, FE) but have more experience on the jetliners and have never flown the G1000 so I wanted to learn it correctly so I bought the Garmin CD trainer.
      I have the Carenado and the feelThere Phenom 100 VLJs and their G1000's are disappointing. I plan to buy the Flight1 B200 King Air because that one looks to be the best G1000 implementation and that's what I am looking for. I also have the Cessna Mustang VLJ but have not flown it much as yet.
      Stay in touch if you have any 737NGX questions...I might be able to help out as you do your research...use this email: support@EZCamViews.net. If I have any G1000 questions I will email you :-)

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Hi Ralph, Not to bash Carenado, but the Flight1 version of the G1000 is far better than the Carenado version without a doubt. I will say that some of the aircraft developers provide standard FSX GPS units in their base packages with provisions for upgrading. An example of this is the RealAir Turbine Duke. I was able to upgrade Turbine Duke's panel with dual Flight1 Garmin GTN 750's. Of course I had to pay extra for the GTN 750's.
      I am working on a new series featuring Carenado's Embraer EMB505 Phenom 300 which also has a Garmin G1000 cockpit. The Carenado version is somewhat "dumbed down" when compared to the real world G1000 although they have made a way to add Navigraph data base for loading SID's and STAR's etc.. There is also a way to upgrade the Carenado G1000 by adding Flight1's GTN 750 to the MFD. I just released a video flying the Phenom 300 with the standard equipped G1000. I will be adding a video soon of the Phenom 300 with the GTN 750 in the panel.
      I have all of the awesome PMDG in my virtual hanger. For a long time they were the only planes I flew. They are definitely heads and shoulders above the Carenado aircraft. At some point I will be featuring each of those planes on this channel... so many planes and so little time... is a great problem to have.
      Thanks for chiming in. I will appreciate hearing from you when I get started on the 737NGX. I really try to fly these planes as accurately as possible within FSX and time limitations. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA
