    Great video! You have a pilot's voice, and offering your 'passengers' a drink was a nice touch. I checked out this video to get an idea of the quality of the simulation's cockpit graphics, and I'm glad to see that it looks better here than in some other videos. I also enjoyed hearing the ATC transmissions.

    I've been debating picking up the Mustang for some time, as I'd like to have a good quality jet GA aircraft. I usually fly the heavies, but every now and again I enjoy flying GA into smaller airfields. I've just haven't been sold on any jets yet.
    It looks like you're using EZDock. I think you can set it so that your close up view of the instruments aren't affected by the aircraft movements. Might not be too realistic, but when dealing with click-spots like that, it might save you some aggravation. I much prefer the mousewheel method of handling instruments.
    Just came across your channel and I enjoyed this series. Keep it up!

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Thank you Lobta! I do use EZdok and normally dial down the DHM etc for the closeups. I like to keep a little movement for realisim. Now and then I hit a tuff click spot that distracts and challenges which simulates real world in a way.
      I have all of PMDG's Boeings, MD-11, and Jetstream in my hanger. I will eventually feature those fantastic aircraft in a series.
      Thanks for commenting and watching! Kindest Regards, Tim G., FS MaNIA

    HI Tim Brilliant Videos !!! Would you consider reviewing the older bethere Phenom 100 ( Publishers Just Flight & Wilco ) comparing it with the latest Carenado Phenom detailing the pros and cons of both ?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Hello hjinternet, I will consider reviewing the older Just Flight and Wilco Phenom models. It has been a long time since I tried either of those companies products. Years ago I flew some of their offerings in the heavy iron aircraft. I had issues with blue screen crashes in FSX, however, in hind site, it could have easily been due to me overloading my older system? At any rate, I will add your request to my list of possible future videos. Thanks much for watching and commenting. Kindest Regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Your videos are very detailed and give me a good idea of what it takes to prepare the cockpit for flight, and takeoff, climb, enroute, approach and landing procedures. I appreciate the work you put into them. Also gives me a good idea if these aircraft are something I would consider for purchase. Thanks for that insight.
    Some constructive feedback if I may.
    The background radio chatter is very realistic, but distracting. If you don’t leave it out completely, then perhaps you could turn the volume down?
    Your voice sounds a little strained due to talking over the engine noise and background radio. This makes listening more difficult to my ears for the length of the videos. Perhaps you could turn the background noise down and talk more naturally.
    I like the fact that you make realistic radio calls. Nice for those sim pilots who have never actually flown. I think answering your own radio calls (playing ATC) and confirming is a bit over kill. Perhaps just making the radio calls would be enough, then simply make a short narrative comment that you got the information you need from that agency would suffice?
    Briefing the approach is obviously something you would do in real life. But if I can’t see the approach plate, it’s just wasted words. It does nothing to help me understanding the approach you are setting up for.
    It seems your flight intercepted the localizer really well, unlike the normal FS autopilot intercepts that fly a ridiculous S curve. Is that due to the airplane flying better or what?
    Nice mix of interior and exterior views. Do you use any special software for the fly bys? Also I love the ORBIX scenery. Looks great!
    Anyway, I like the videos and enjoy watching them. Keep up the good work.

    Would you recommend this jet? I really like the looks. I usually fly on pilotedge so would you recommend it for that kind of flying?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Rodney Buckland Hi Rodney, Yes indeed. The Mustang is very well modeled. The Garmin G1000 is also well modeled and would be great for flying in the complex airspace around California where Pilot Edge is based. Thumbs up! Hope that helps, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    • @rodneybuckland4140

      Two more questions. Any downsides? And compared to the turbine Duke, ways the frame rate hit like?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      Hi Rodney, The Mustang Model has been around for a while. I had a few minor issues when working on the video, however, I think they were mostly related my system and settings. There is a wealth of information on this airplane both in the documentation and in the user forums at Flight1. I don't think you will be disappointed with how it performs.
      I did not notice any problems with the frames, however, I run a lot of add-ons, weather, FS Recorder, FRAPS, etc., that really tax my system. When I flew just the Flight1 Mustang without FRAPS I could maintain a steady 30 FPS which is what I am set for. (FRAPS is the program I use to capture the flight video)
      Hope that helps. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    At 47:15 or so I'm surprised that the G1000 doesn't automatically turn off the take off V speeds after TO and on the descent, that it doesn't automatically turn on the Vref speed bug. You spent a full minute trying to set these to off and to on...I'm just surprised that for a single pilot IFR machine, Cessna didn't have Garmin customize this capability. This added to your work load on approach and I don't think it should have. Am I missing a reason for why it is designed this way?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      +Ralph Freshour Hi Ralph, Flight1 actually did a fairly good job modeling the G1000, however, it is not 100% representative of the real world unit. I did have issues with click spots on this unit probably more pilot error than Flight1. I have been flying the Flight1 King Air B200 with a G1000 glass cockpit and, in my opinion, it is very well modeled. Carenado's version of the G1000,,, ummm.. not so much. But, having said that,, I really feel like the G1000 is a place for a developer like Flight1 to offer an upgraded and smarter version (like they have for the GTN 750) that can be added into various G1000 equipped aircraft. I hope we will see better modeling in this area as private business class jets increase in popularity in the flight sim world... just thinking out loud here... Sorry I missed this comment from a month ago, I just rain across this while I was replying to another on this page. Hope you are doing well and cheers from Tim G., FS MaNiA

      @rfresh1011 9 років тому

      Well, as you know, I'm more used to the Boeing glass, PFD, ND and the FMS, etc. But I've recently been flying the G1000 aircraft such as the Phenom 100 (from Carenado and from feelThere). I'm not impressed with their G1000 implementations. I bought the Cessna Mustang and that was better and then after viewing your Kingair B200 I bought that one too but have not had much of a chance to use it.
      With all the differences between the way each company has modeled the G1000 and even though I'm a commercial pilot with instrument and ME ratings, I've never flown a real G1000 so I don't know what is real or what has been modeled incorrectly when I do fly these birds and try to use their G1000 avionic suites.
      So I took a paid course and got some training on the G1000 and completed it so now I know how it should work.
      I also purchased Garmins G1000 Trainer CD for the C-182 and for the Kingair 300. I'm extremely impressed at how well Garmin's trainer works. This is really the way to learn and play around with the G1000 but you should have a course in front of you so you don't miss something important. The only thing I didn't like about using the Garmin G1000 trainer on a windows PC is that I have to interact with it using a mouse and optionally, a keyboard. If I were a real pilot (hey wait a minute, I am a real pilot) trying to learn the G1000, I'd HATE having to learn it with a mouse and then jump into a C-182 and try to fly it using its 3D push buttons and knobs. I thought there must be a better way to train on your PC using physical switches and knobs laid out just like a real G1000 bezel.
      So, I've started working on a project to build a G1000 bezel with all the switches and knobs that I can press and turn and operate the PFD and the MFD to better learn the G1000.
      So, I'm in the early stages of using a micro-processor board and installing switches and knobs on a bread board and wiring it all up. I'm writing all the software code (the firmware code) that resides on the chip on the board to make it all work. I'm not writing the G1000 software for two reasons: one, I don't want to spend 2 years writing that part of it and two, Garmin has done such an excellent job of creating their software trainer, through some software magic, my hardware device can actually operate the Garmin G1000 trainer running on a windows PC by pushing real buttons and turning real knobs.
      I've built a small proof of concept bread board and I can say that it works as I envisioned it. So now I'm expanding the bread board and building a full scale bezel to hold all of the buttons and knobs and will wire it up and write the software code to make it all work seamlessly. I'll be able to operate the full G1000 using a physical model of the G1000 bezel.
      I was thinking about putting up a website to document my progress for those who might be interested in following this. I'd like to reach the point where I can sell it but I don't know yet what all the parts will cost me and therefore I don't know what I could sell a completed unit for. I know the CD from Garmin is inexpensive and anyone using my bezel would have to have it on their PC running. I would have nothing to do with Garmins G1000 software. I don't have to hack their software at all to make this work, I don't have to license it, it all falls on the shoulders of the user to purchase it from Garmin. My bezel just happens to work with it should they choose to use my bezel.
      Anyway, it's a project that will keep me busy for a while!

      Ralph Freshour Hi Ralph, I do agree that the Flight1 version of the G1000 is far better modeled than the Carenado, however, I haven't seen a flight sim offering yet that will provide the mountain of features packed in the real world unit. I have the real world manuals for the Prodigy G1000 used in the Phenom. It's gives a thorough understanding of how the unit should function... however, the challenge with the Carenado unit is to try and figure out with virtually no documentation how the unit will function. A lot of guess work, trial and error which is very frustrating to many sim pilots and leads to a lot of hard feelings directed at Carenado. I can usually figure out how to get the basic features to operate and get the airplane to do what I want it to do... I don't get let down by the inaccurate "dumbed down" modeling because I don't expect to get real world accuracy in a software add-on that cost less than $50. Flight1 and RealityXP both have very well model add-on Garmins for around $50. I am hoping someone will offer one someday for the G1000 that would allow me to upgrade the Carenado Phenoms and others. Until then, I am able (with help) to substitute a portion of the MDF with a Garmin GTN-750 by Flight1 that provides a much more functional unit even though it isn't what you would find in a Phenom and that drives some folks crazy!!! I tend to accept that the flight sim isn't a perfect world, yet it is light years ahead of what we had in the 80's when it was first introduced. I trust it will continue to improve as long as there are people who have a keen interest in flying... that should be for a long while still... That's my two cents on this.
      Great to hear from you again and best regards from Tim G., FS MaNiA

      You can go to skyvector.com to look up the destination airport, view all of the available approaches and airport diagrams. On the approach plate you will find all of the fixes for the approach. The inital approach fix is identified on the approach plate by "IAF" . Final approach fix (FAF) is usually where you will start your final approach descent into the airport. Hope that helps. Tim
