My mother is a nurse, retired now, for part of her many years of service, she was a nurse at a nursing home. There were a couple times that i know of, that her fellow coworkers ended up coming back to that nursing home for end of life care, and she had to care for them, people whom she had worked along side of caring for others and had been pretty close to, now she was caring for them. God bless nurses and other medical staff, you are a special breed.
My mom was a psychiatric nurse for 35 years, she looked after some for all of their adult life & I seen how much it affected her when one of them passed, She could have moved up the ladder into management with better pay/benefits but refused EVERY time as then she wouldn't be able to help the people who actually needed it, I miss her EVERY day.
Yeah, it's weird working at a nursing home and then seeing your co-workers staying there for therapy even though it's fun to crack jokes at them about it when they go into employ only areas. Hopefully, I don't have to see any of them actually staying or going to hospice

Tbf they can't joke around patients or the familes would get mad. Not everyone has the same sense humour (or ANY sense humour tbh), but even if the patient can see humour in their illness, the caregivers are generally extremely high strung (for valid reasons obviously) and jokes like these would only annoy them further.

Hearing them go back and forth was more comforting than the clinical professionalism. Everytime I’ve been in the hospital it’s the nurses who make me feel welcome. They treat you like a human, not just a patient. They’ll converse with you, and pick up on your personality and roll with it. They make the stays bearable.
They should have never canceled this show. These actors were wonderful and deserve an emmy award, especially nurse jackie, her acting skills are on par
Im constantly in and out of hospital due to a disability. The staff know i like my details black and white, my coffee milky and my humour dark. Im also a volunteer guinea pig for any student nurses and doctors practicing blood draws etc, as my veins are difficult to find, and they have to take it from awkward areas like the wrist or side of elbow. They have to learn somehow!
I whacked my head on the wall-mounted first aid box on Sunday. Coworker just said ‘please don’t die. I don’t want to fill out a hazard report for the first aid box’
Ah yes, the legendary "cursed" beds. Doesn't matter what condition a patient is in, whether it be a small cut or severe disease, if you put a patient there they will die around 24 hours later...

This makes my heart swell because it reminds me of my elderly friend who I helped through her cancer treatment. She overcame the odds against stage 4 cancer. She’s not the same as before but she is still one of, if not the strongest woman I know. We make fun of each other but will always be there for each other. And despite her condition, she gives the strongest hugs out of anyone I know.
To be honest I’m someone who works in senior care/hospice it’s always the sassy feisty mouthy ones that we enjoy the most and are heartbroken when they pass, well at least for me❤. I have been with so many ppl while they passed and it’s truly an honor.
I can tell you, these patients made oir days and we are heartbroken when they no longer with us. They are sweet and warm on the inside and also true to themselves until the end❤

2 years ago I moved to a different state to escape my situation and live with my bio mom. My family lived in a tiny town for years, and my mama worked at the gas station in town. That gas station ended up being my first job. So basically every regular knew of me and swarmed the place to meet me since there’s not many new people. One regular because a family friend because of our interactions. He’s an old ass man with the meanest attitude. He wanted to give me shit, so I gave him shit back. We’d insult each other, fuck with each other. He’s mess something up in the store so I’d mess up something in his yard. It was my favorite time of the day when that asshat would come in. Well when I quit my job and soon later moved, I thought that was the end of that. No more bullying the bully. We still got mail at the PO Box in that town so I’d occasionally go with my dad to get it. And one day I was chilling in the truck when I look up and see an ugly old guy flipping me off. I got so shitty I opened my door ready to start something, only to realize it was the old guy. We laughed at how pissed I got and spend a little catching up. He then sold me his truck when I was looking for a vehicle and even gave my family a couch for free when ours broke. I hate that piece of shit but I’m going to be balling at his funeral. Sweetest jack ass I’ve ever met.
When I was in ER as Doctor...you don't wanted to hear all the dark.humour banter that we have all day. Sometimes some of our patients were quite perplexed but we always told them its a joke that we need to make us human enough to work in the hellish environment hehehe...
Medical professionals (doctors, nurses, emts, hell even vets and vet techs) have some of the darkest humor. You won’t survive a month in those professions without a dark sense of humor. Morticians and pathologists too, the only way to keep sane is dark humor and talking about the deceased in a light, playful maner. Not that we don’t respect them, but making light of the situation is the only way we can keep doing the same, very important job for decades. We can’t do a depressing job seriously every day cuz we won’t last a week. Psychiatrists and psychologists understand that sentiment, if you take everything seriously you’ll eventually go insane and be your own client
Nurses have a different sense of humor. Plus you enter a war zone with your coworkers every day. Every nurse has been assaulted. No exceptions. They develop a kind of comraderie normal people could never understand.
