My mother is a nurse, retired now, for part of her many years of service, she was a nurse at a nursing home. There were a couple times that i know of, that her fellow coworkers ended up coming back to that nursing home for end of life care, and she had to care for them, people whom she had worked along side of caring for others and had been pretty close to, now she was caring for them. God bless nurses and other medical staff, you are a special breed.

My mom was a psychiatric nurse for 35 years, she looked after some for all of their adult life & I seen how much it affected her when one of them passed, She could have moved up the ladder into management with better pay/benefits but refused EVERY time as then she wouldn't be able to help the people who actually needed it, I miss her EVERY day.

Yeah, it's weird working at a nursing home and then seeing your co-workers staying there for therapy even though it's fun to crack jokes at them about it when they go into employ only areas. Hopefully, I don't have to see any of them actually staying or going to hospice

Tbf they can't joke around patients or the familes would get mad. Not everyone has the same sense humour (or ANY sense humour tbh), but even if the patient can see humour in their illness, the caregivers are generally extremely high strung (for valid reasons obviously) and jokes like these would only annoy them further.

My husband was in the hospital for a couple months, it got touch and go for a minute. Him and his nurses would talk like this to each other and he loved it!! 😆😆😆 He loves dark humor (former Marine)!! Hearing them go back and forth was more comforting than the clinical professionalism. I understand why they are usually like that, the majority of people would complain and try to get the few nurses we have left fired.

I hear nothing but love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 🎉 between these staff members, both old and new. Reminds of how me and my doctor of 30 years banter, I had a bad sinus infection once. My s were blocked and my face was swollen. He said, "Hey, that looks painful. So, what brings you in today??" We both laughed. Then, he touched my puffy face with his gloved fingers, saying "Just what I thought. Swollen." Me: I could've called that comment in, but YOU were on vacation in Colorado. Or was it Cabo?? Nice tan. Meanwhile, I'm wasting away here. " He and his new nurse burst out in laughter. Life's too short. Enjoy the journey. 😂😅

2 years ago I moved to a different state to escape my situation and live with my bio mom. My family lived in a tiny town for years, and my mama worked at the gas station in town. That gas station ended up being my first job. So basically every regular knew of me and swarmed the place to meet me since there’s not many new people. One regular because a family friend because of our interactions. He’s an old ass man with the meanest attitude. He wanted to give me shit, so I gave him shit back. We’d insult each other, fuck with each other. He’s mess something up in the store so I’d mess up something in his yard. It was my favorite time of the day when that asshat would come in. Well when I quit my job and soon later moved, I thought that was the end of that. No more bullying the bully. We still got mail at the PO Box in that town so I’d occasionally go with my dad to get it. And one day I was chilling in the truck when I look up and see an ugly old guy flipping me off. I got so shitty I opened my door ready to start something, only to realize it was the old guy. We laughed at how pissed I got and spend a little catching up. He then sold me his truck when I was looking for a vehicle and even gave my family a couch for free when ours broke. I hate that piece of shit but I’m going to be balling at his funeral. Sweetest jack ass I’ve ever met.

Medical professionals (doctors, nurses, emts, hell even vets and vet techs) have some of the darkest humor. You won’t survive a month in those professions without a dark sense of humor. Morticians and pathologists too, the only way to keep sane is dark humor and talking about the deceased in a light, playful maner. Not that we don’t respect them, but making light of the situation is the only way we can keep doing the same, very important job for decades. We can’t do a depressing job seriously every day cuz we won’t last a week. Psychiatrists and psychologists understand that sentiment, if you take everything seriously you’ll eventually go insane and be your own client

Nurses have a different sense of humor. Plus you enter a war zone with your coworkers every day. Every nurse has been assaulted. No exceptions. They develop a kind of comraderie normal people could never understand.
