Thank you so much. I put music in some of my first videos but found I like the silence better…or the sound of the sewing machine so I quit doing that. So glad you agree!
I have always wanted a log cabin quilt. Now I know how to make it myself. Thank you for showing and explaining what you did, how you did it and why. Your video makes me believe I can actually do this. 😊
Thank you so much for this video! Your method of teaching makes the video enjoyable, educational and encourages me to quilt. I particularly appreciate the silence while sewing, it gives me time to really think about what you had just said. Sometimes too much chatter is disturbing, proof positive that less IS more. Well done!!
I absolutely love the colors you chose! They are any little girl’s dream! I’ve watched many tutorials over the years and love the way you explained everything! Thank you so very much for sharing!
Just found your channel and subscribed. I love the fact that you strip pieced the first two pieces. I have a lot of pink fabric left from a quilt I just finished for my niece...i now know what I will do with all the leftover scraps! Thank you so much!
Thank you! Your video is wonderful. You explained things in a way that was easy for me to understand as a new quilter and you didn’t rush through and leave us wondering how you got to end. I love your choice of fabrics too.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I am also sewing a log cabin at this time using the same layout. You have my imagination going on what other combinations I could sew. Your quilt is lovely. Thank you for the video. Can't wait for the flag quilt. ❤
I wish UA-cam allowed pictures to be posted in the comments because I would love to see your quilt. Log Cabins are my favorite! The next quilt will be a plaid quilt. I probably didn’t speak clearly. But I do have a Quilt of Valor cut out that will be coming up soon. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you so much for this video, the instructions were so good. Even a new quilter, like me, can follow along. I think 8th be making this for my granddaughter.
Blessings! First time seeing a video from your channel! Thank you! I appreciate the “I shouldn’t and I should off” as well as the whole video! It helps me understand what to do and what not to do. I am self taught and I have made one quilt and I have two in progress (can’t seem to decide on a center square for them)… One suggestion is that since you’re teaching maybe you should label with numbers like you did on your pattern on each of the different cuts you’re making and then the label should stay on each part on the very first block you’re making that way you won’t have to figure it out since you are trying to show us on camera, it would be easier! Have a blessed day!
Numbering them is definitely a good idea. When the camera turns on, I forget my name and can’t see a straight seam. There’s something about knowing everyone is watching you, that makes you mess up more. So taking extra steps to lessen the confusion is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Glad you like it! If you have any trouble downloading it, please let me know with another comment. This is the first time I’ve tried a Dropbox pattern.
Уважаемая Дебби! Мне очень понравилось ваше видео. Все очень понятно и без перевода. У вас приятный голос и чёткая речь. Подписываюсь и лайк. С приветом из России.
Thank you so much. My daughter made several visits to Russia during high school and it’s one of her favorite places. She even majored in Russian language in college. Glad to have you!
I love the piggy fabric too. It’s been in my stash for quite awhile waiting for the perfect project and this was it. And I still have some left for another project.
I just found your UA-cam channel. Oh what a delight! I am a new or “wannabe” quilter. I love everything about your video! I liked and subscribed. Can you please tell the u finished size of your blocks are? I also am over the moon excited that you gave the fabric amounts to us. I hadn’t yet seen anywhere to find the amount of fabric needed in a log cabin quilt. Is there anywhere/anyway to figure out the fabric quantities for a larger quilt without the borders being so wide? Thank you so very much for sharing your time and knowledge with us! You are greatly appreciated!
I’m so happy to have you!!! The blocks are 14.5” before being sewn together. Then they become 14”. I will compute the yardages for bigger quilts and put those in a post on my channel either later today or tomorrow. Thanks!
Wow, I think I could actually make this; it looks doable to me. Only thing missing here is the final touches. For instance, what do you use for the filler and the backing? I do wish that were included in your video. PS I am subscribing, I especially liked your final comment "whatever you do, do it for the Glory of the Lord". Amen.
Thank you so much. I did a 3 part series taking a few simple quilt and quilting it different ways. If you’ll search on my channel for Episodes 49-1 thru 49-3, I explain 3 different ways. I had intended to show a 4th way, free motion quilting, but my machine I quilt with broke down and had to go into the shop. I have it back so have added that video to my list too get back to. There is also a series about a sampler quilt for beginners that shows more details about borders. It was Episodes 42-1 through 42-13. I send a lot of mine out to be quilted by someone who has a long arm quilt machine but I hope to do more myself in the future because that’s expensive. Hope this helps. I’ll try to add more details about the finishing in future videos. God bless! Glad you love the Lord too!
It’s from my stash that I used to make children’s clothes out of so it’s not necessarily fabrics that you see in quilts. I’ve had some of them for years.
I have never quilted before. My mom started a quilt, chose the fabric and started cutting out the strips, but before she could sew them together she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Mom passed away and I have her material for the quilt. I’m going to try and make this in her memory. I have a question about sewing the strips together. Watching you, I noticed you don’t tie off the seams when sewing them. How do you keep them from unraveling or ripping apart?
You don’t need to tie off seams if you use a small enough stitch length (1.5-2) and if the seam is going to be crossed with another seam which they all will. I usually back stitch at the beginning and ending of a long row of chaining or use can use a leader and ender which are scrap pieces of fabric that give you a running start and let you sew off the end. I rarely have problems with seams coming apart. You might want to watch my series on the Beginner Friendly Sampler Quilt. I go into more depth on this and a few other things. Let me know if you have any problems or questions. I’m happy to help.
Do you know what pattern your mom intended to make? Or what she has already cut out? I would be happy to do a tutorial on it if we can figure out her intentions. As a quilter and a mom, I know she would be so proud if you finished it!
@@auntdebbiesboutique1223 she was making the log cabin blocks. She was making the quilt for my daughter. I’m hoping to surprise her with it for either Christmas or her birthday next year. I appreciate all of your assistance with this 💜
I was using a Juki 98T. It’s an older model that just does straight stitching but it’s my favorite for piecing and quilting. I have quite a few machines that I use for other sewing but this is my go-to for quilting.
Hello. Im new to quilting, would a twin size such as this be a good baby blanket? Also if I want it to be bogger than a twin size would I need more blocks?
A baby quilt is usually just 9 blocks, 3 rows of 3 blocks and yes, more blocks would make it bigger. Just decide on what size you want and divide each measurement by 14 to figure out how many blocks. You can also make it slightly smaller than the need and add borders to get it bigger. If you tell me what size you want, I can make some suggestions. Thank you.
It’s listed in the description under the video. There is a separate post that gives yardage for other sizes. Just go to my channel page and click on posts. It should be the 2nd post listed.
It’s in the description box. Click on the line that says “Episode 52 Log Cabin Quilt” and there will be more information show up. The link is there. Let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll try something else.
I’m sorry. Some people are visual learners so I like to show as much as I can for the sake of beginners. Feel free to skip through those parts that you don’t like watching. I speed them up on purpose so they don’t take more time than necessary.
Thank you so very much for sharing. I am very appreciative. You’re a blessing. Thank you. Thank you. ❤❤
Thank you
It was so refreshing to not have to listen to someone else’s choice of music opening with the commentary. Such a pretty quilt.
Thank you so much. I put music in some of my first videos but found I like the silence better…or the sound of the sewing machine so I quit doing that. So glad you agree!
O wow beautiful quilt. Just beautiful.
Thank you.
I have always wanted a log cabin quilt. Now I know how to make it myself. Thank you for showing and explaining what you did, how you did it and why. Your video makes me believe I can actually do this. 😊
You can do it! It’s really not that hard. Good luck and thank you for the comment
Thank you so much for this video! Your method of teaching makes the video enjoyable, educational and encourages me to quilt. The pig fabric made me 😊 smile! Great quilt
Isn’t it adorable? I’ve had it in my stash for a long time waiting for the perfect project!

What a great tutorial! So clear and helpful!
Thank you. I try to keep it simple!
I like how you organize before sewing. My style too.
If I didn’t organize, I’d make even more mistakes! It also makes it easier to teach others when I’m not all over the place!
Thank you I’ll definitely try this log cabin❤
Great! I hope you like it!
Very pretty quilt! I love it! I gave some quilting fabric similar. Gonna do it. ❤️

Good. Thanks.
Thanks for saying “selvedge”and not “salvage”, my pet peeve.
Lol! I’ve not heard anyone say “salvage” but that would drive me crazy too. I think I’d question their knowledge of the subject they were teaching!
Where did you find the fabric? Beautiful selection.❤❤

Is the seam allowance 14i ch or 1/8th ? Thanks it’s beautiful I am going to try it
It’s 1/4 inch. Sorry if I didn’t mention that. Good luck!

How much fabric do you buy for each color for a twin quilt?
Center Square- 1/8 yd
1st Light - 1/3 yd
2nd Light - 5/8 yd
3rd Light 3/4 yd
1st Dark - 1/2 yd
2nd Dark - 2/3 yd
3rd Dark - 7/8 yd
3” Border 3/4 yd
4” Border 1 yd
5” Border 1 1/4 yd
Backing - 6 yds

I’m putting a 4” and 5” border on mine to make it twin size.

Noted!
I kinda like the way it was done. Gave my brain a pause to process before the next step. Great job!
