My Dad had a silver 96 Taurus exactly like the one in this video. Was a great car! I learned to drive in it and it held up well for many years. He later traded it for a brand new off the showroom floor 2010 Ford Fusion Sport also in silver, that was loaded with every option except the navigation system (which was optional at the time). Anyways I have that Fusion now and it still is in excellent condition never seen winters. It's a rare one. Anyways I miss that 96 Taurus was a part of my childhood and was one of my Dads favorite cars because it was one of his newer cars at that time. Nice to see this uploaded 👍💓
Awesome! I'm the type of person who doesn't consider the 1996-1999 Ford Taurus as ugly. Rather I think of it as unique and a trend setter because in the mid to late 90s motor vehicles shed the "dull and drab" boxy exterior styling of the 1980's and early 1990's in favor of a more curvaceous exterior styling that could be considered "bold and boundary pushing."

The funky patterned cloth on that GL Taurus actually cost more than the "plain" fabric on the LX trim car! A lot of dealers found it super ugly.
The book "Car - A Drama of the American Workplace" by Mary Walton details the development of the 96 Taurus... if you're into cars it's a must read: It gives lots of insights into why so many things on the 96 Taurus ended up the way they did.
18:40 Are you talking about that design? It does look a little odd at first, but in a way I can grow to like it. Almost looks like one of those older sofa fabric designs in the time period plastic was put on sofas.

My family used to have a 1993 and a 2011 Taurus.
Imagine you can go to a dealer and order the specific type of seating and shifter you like up front along with the design on the fabric? Those were the good old days. I can tell this car would have been so cool to own back then and order.

Such a shame what happened to this Taurus/Sable generation. They should have done an interior refresh on the Gen 2 cars and sold it for two more model years for 96 and 97 and then introduced a model that looks like the Gen 4 cars in 98. Only good thing about the Gen 3s was the Duratec motor and the bench seat that could become a center console.

The 1986-1995 Taurus was such a good looking sedan. Then came the ‘96...
How on earth could they get it so bad? I’ve had 9 S.H.O.s from 91-95 and adored them all but this car was just an atrocity! Even worst was the S.H.O. V8 being MUCH slower than the V6. They just ruined this car beyond repair!

While I am a fan of the 92-95, the 96 will always be my favorite. It had so much personality and a much improved interior that had so much more quality it’s ridiculous.

I had a 1998. It rode nice and ran good but the transmission was garbage. It never shifted smooth and the transmission blew a year after I bought it.
How often did you change the fluid and filter on the transmission?
@@ironinquisitor3656 I bought it at 120.000 miles so I'm not sure how many times the filter was changed. Transmission was toast by 150.000. And that's not many miles. My Dodge Intrepid has 257.000 miles. It shifts fantastic. The shift solenoid and filter was replaced at 210.000 miles. Otherwise it's the original.
It's was extremely rusty generation in comparison with 1 generation))
The first 3 generations of Taurus all had notorious catastrophic transmission failures
My 98's transmission fried. It shifted ok on the test drive but a week later it started to shift rough.
My aunt's 92 Mercury Sable LS wagon has never had a transmission problem. Has 200,000 plus miles on it and still has the factory transmission on it. You HAVE to change the transmission fluid and filter at least every 30,000 miles or it won't even last. Ford claimed the AXOD was "virtually maintainence free" when it came out wow what a lie.

How could Ford get this gen Taurus so WRONG! Whoever mentioned “fun to drive” in this vid needs to be FIRED. Just look at it…..ugh
The only good thing about the third Gen Taurus and Sable was the Duratec V6. A far better motor than the 3.8 in the Gen 1 and 2s. That and the flip fold center console that could become a bench seat.
Compared to the more over-the-top designs of sedans these days; the third and fourth generation of the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable look modest in comparison. The third generation Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable (1996-1999) set the trend of curvaceous styling on vehicles in the mid to late 1990's. Think about other vehicles made by Ford in this time period: the Aspire, Windstar, Contour, ZX2, and the Escort. They all had curves at one part or another with regards to exterior and interior styling. It was less noticable on the F series of pick-up trucks as well as the Explorer, Expedition and Excursion SUVs.

No doubt about that. Of course she was wearing a dress; so that explains why she had her legs crossed. It would have been more beneficial for Callie Northagen to have worn a pants suit as it would have looked more modern.
I mean, im sure if you take just the portion of video where she sat with her legs crossed vs the entire length of the video, it wasn’t as long as it seems.
