Tip, Bakersville and Burnsville need heaters. Please ask folks to connect with Wayne at Deep River Farm if they can help with that need. Temps projected to fall to 25°f, with frozen precipitation, in those areas and they have run out of heaters. God bless those who can help with a heater, adaptor hose and filter, propane, and most importantly, fervent prayers that needs will be met. Intentional prayer is powerful prayer! Matthew 18:19-20 tells us, "Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them". 💜🙏💪
Thank you for the update. My dear friends live in Bakersville and it’s been a nightmare. Praise the Lord that their house was not affected. As far as I know, they still have volunteers living with them to help with the rebuilding etc. God bless everyone that’s helped in any way.
My dad always made stew in the oven. He would put every vegetable he could find, including brussel sprouts. And the best part was that he would put drop biscuits on the top the last 30 minutes and they turned out like dumplings. We loved it.
Regarding the bottom of the pan...when I was little and my mom would fry something like pork chops , chicken, etc., I called what was left in the pan "the brown." I LOVED the brown! After she had taken everything out of the pan, she'd scrape the pan, put a little bit of the brown on a paper towel, and once it was cool, she gave it to me. To this day, I pull some of the brown aside just or me. Memories 💗
Tipper, because you make such a wonderful garden every year and put up so much good food, I’m always impressed at how much of your plates are full of vegetables. What a wonderful way to eat and nourish your bodies. I’m sure it’s a big part of why you all enjoy such good health. 😊
Yummy fresh carrots in a soul satisfying winter evening feast. Great news my granddaughter Emily is on her way home. Her spine surgery was successful. Thank you Lord Jesus. Prayers for you and your family and all who need a touch from the Lord, and precious darlins don't we all.🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
Amen. ❤❤❤. I’m so happy for you. I’ve worked all day on concrete floors getting ready for holidays. I’m so tired. My autistic son he making happy noises in the bath upstairs. He’s going to twelve this weekend. I’ve earned this. But yours is the best news that I’ve heard all day. Granbaby going home sounds so incredible. What a gift thank you. ❤❤❤
Dearest Tipper, just a suggestion, if you would have added the amount of liquid required for the onion soup mix, to your skillet with all the goodness in the bottom and simmer on low it would have lifted all the goodness and flavor from the skillet. Then added the soup mix and whisked well before adding it to the pot you baked the stew in. This entire meal looks absolutely delicious 💕🙏🙏
Jeanne Taylor, you hit the nail on the head. Tipper should’ve added soup/water mixture to frying pan to release the fond that built up from cooking stew beef. You get a very rich gravy, broth from the fond build up. The stew looks very yummy. 😋
My grandmother used to make oven stew. She had one of those large, oval Magnalite roasters (made by Wagner Ware) that she cooked it in. Browned her stew meat on the burner in it first, then added everything else and put it in the oven. No onion soup mix in hers, though. I know she added garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. I used to make it with venison, the same way, using a cast iron dutch oven.
I crumble my cornbread too, Tipper. I love stew, & practically live on it through the winter. I enjoy beets & coleslaw too. Your meals always look so delicious.
I really like beef stew, my hubby not so much. I guess I grew up on home cooked country food because that’s how my mom cooked. I know my mother in-law made delicious home cooked foods too, but I think hers were more simple easy to prepare meals. Their family didn’t eat a lot of soups or stews. My mom had a large family to feed and half the neighbor kids too, so soups, stews, cooked pinto beans served with cornbread or rolls was always hearty meals that could feed everyone that came to our table. Since you said you have drained the juice off that canned Cole slaw and added mayonnaise and it was good, I might have to try that recipe. My husband loves coleslaw.
You had me talking to my screen! 😆 You could have deglazed all those yummy bits in that skillet with some of your water. 😋 And you cut cornbread just like my Momma does. 😊 ❤ Love y'all.
That’s the way I always seen my Mom make beef stew, but she would cook it longer ,as we say falling off the bone. That will be delish, Matt will be hungry. God bless
I have always made something like this but never called it stew. I always called it pot roast. You can use any meat, you will find pork works very well in this as well. I never have to brown mine as it will get very brown while in the oven. I"ll bet Mat's deer meat would work very well also.
Hey Tipper, what a fantastic supper! I'm happy to see you scraping the pan after braising the meat. I know Matt appreciated coming home to that meal. 😋
Beets are good for lowering high blood pressure. Carrots are good for your eyes and venison is lower in fat, the cornbread and the cabbage slaw add a good amount of fiber. All in all a heart healthy meal made with love!❤❤👃👃
I make one similar called gone all day stew. I add a can of tomato soup .the stew cooks in a low oven all day. You can go out and work in the yard or whatever and it will be fine.the meat gets tender and the gravy dark and thick. Pearl onions are great whole in this too. You got me wanting stew now!
That looks delicious! Thank you for sharing. I’m going to make this soon. It’s cold and windy here. Already have the furnace on and my electric blanket. It’s that time of the year.
Stews are delicious when slow cooked for the flavors and little flour water added to while cooking, thickens it up really good 😊.. I enjoy oyster stew also in the winter months, when oysters are fresh out the shells.. all stews can be cozy comfort foods on chilly evenings and nights.. everything looked very good 😊.. and sure tasted delicious.. thank u for sharing
We buy 1/4 beef every year. And have decided to take our left over roast from year to year and can beef carrots and potatoes. For simple supper for our 2 daughters and us (daughters both work outside the home). It will free up some freezer space and and make it a little easier on us all. From southern Indiana, God Blees ❤.
Tipper, your stew for supper looks so delicious! 😋 The fresh vegetables out of your garden make it taste even better. I love to cook stew, and I even put some cauliflower in it, and it's really tasty. You're such an awesome cook, and I really enjoy watching you cook and bake.💕 I got everything that I needed to bake the blueberry pie that you baked not too long ago. Can't wait to bake it tomorrow. 😊🥧 Enjoy your supper together! Sending blessings to you and all your family. 💗🙏
We canned up about 10 quarts of beef stew yesterday. Winter brings power outages and it takes a lot less energy/power to heat up the jar of beef stew as oppossed to cooking it all from scratch. Plus, it's super convenient. We love beef stew and having it shelf stable is just the icing on the cake. Beef stew is a major comfort food😋🤗🥼🍲
Very similar to my recipe however I do add a can of cream of mushroom soup and half the water. Sometimes I add mushrooms if I have some. This works great in the oven or crock pot and also in the pressure cooker. We serve ours in bowls so we can have all that good gravy to dip whatever bread we have. Stew is so good. I think I may make one this week when the temp drops.
Oh Tipper this looks delicious !! Will certainly try this, as I too always make mine in the Crock Pot. I was going to ask you for the Cole Slaw recipe, but then I looked up the link. Blessings always.
A great-looking meal. The Oven Stew looks delicious but the cornbread looks super, super tasty with the thick crust like that. It is been a long time since I had cornbread like that. I hope Matt has better luck the next time. Gerry Rosa in MO said some deer there are sick this year. The state is making them have them checked for that disease. I can't remember its name. His channel is Rosa Strings Works. You may be able to find the video from the last week or so he posted it. Be careful God bless you all.
My nan is to can chow chow every year. Her and my mom loved to eat it. I never tried it. I wasn't eating that stuff at that time but i do now and I'm sure id love it
Beef stew is on my menu for the weekend! Nothing is better than soups and stews in this cooler weather. I think I will do mine in the oven. When I cook more in the oven, I can turn the thermostat down for the rest of the day. Thanks for the idea.
I love beef stew in the fall and winter. Such a comfort food. I usually make mine in the crockpot too. I'll have to try this recipe in the oven. Looks delicious. Hope you've had a good evening. Love and prayers to all.
Im making a big potato of potatoe soup tomorrow..I gotta get a couple smokes hocks..This is almost like an all day event making this ..lol..So much work but so good ..Great job..I can smell it.😉😀

Looked so good. I usually either stir in a little corn starch to thicken the gravy. We eat lots of stews and it’s getting to be that time of year. Lots of time I slice up Longhorn Cheese and just have saltines on the side. Tell Matt I saw a herd of 5 deer on Monday. They are coming down so he should be able to get his.

I love beef stew. I'm like you Tipper I cook mine in the crock pot but the cast iron would put a great taste to it. You and Matt have a good evening. 🌻
I hesitate to comment because you all have so much history behind your cooking, but I feel slow oven stew is the best. Let it sit over night and reheat gently. Meat seems to be more tender and the vegetable have a fuller taste. Lots of carrots and potatoes, yum!
Hi Tipper, Thank You so sharing the stew with us it looks absolutely delicious! I'd eat everything except the beets. I'm sorry you didn't get a deer Matt maybe next time.😊❤🙏🏻
That looks similar to the stew I make. I usually brown my meat in the same cast iron Dutch oven I cook the stew in the oven. The Lipton soup mix does add wonderful flavor. ❣️
Yummy I too have cheated in the oven but I bet nothing beats my Dutch Oven. I’ll be doing that. Thanks to Jim and you Tipper. You’ll get a dear next time Matt I’m praying for ya. Brooks ♥️👍🇺🇸🙏
Tipper you know what would be really interesting to a lot of us? It’s to watch you take that pan that you browned the stew meat in over to the sink and wash it, there are so many ways you are supposed to do it and certain ways not to do it I for one have trouble with the seasoning on my cast iron and it would just be kinda cool to see how it’s supposed to be done because your pans look so good
That stew looks somewhat similar to the deer stew I make. Which I am making for dinner tomorrow. I bown my meat in bacon grease with the onion soup mixed in the grease. Then add in the taters, carrots, onions, garlic, jimmy nardello peppers, onion salt, celery salt, curry powder, salt, pepper, and a quart of homemade bone broth. I then cook it on low on the stove top for 2 hours. I also like to toast some french bread in a skillet and eat that with it. Its some kinda good!!! Oh and a little worcestershire sauce in the stew as well.
