FYI this is a really long comment: I am so grateful to have found your video. I am a surgical technologist and esthetician. I’m 27 and really want to have a career that I am passionate about and decided to research NP Dermatology. I had no idea that it was even a thing. Then I found your video. I also wanted to do Interior Design which is so funny your sister said that. It’s so encouraging to see women that look like me be in positions that they can thrive in and also inform others who are maybe not sure which career path to go. Thank you both for taking the time to create this content. You are very inspiring to me.
This is so cool! I also came from a public health program and now 1 week from graduating NP school. My last rotation provided a lot of exposure to dermatology related issues such as CVD related skin conditions, skin cancer, biopsies, and cryotherapy. What I love about this video, is seeing how you utilize your health edu background in clinical practice, which is what I want to do. This is very cool, love this video a lot as I am doing more research into Derm as a specialty for me.
I feel like this way.... I used to want to do wound care nursing... and I work in cardiac now. And I have always been so interested in dermatology because of my own problems with eczema
I appreciate this interview so much! I'm in NP school and I am passionate about derm. This video helped me find out the right direction to go in because many of these clinics want experience. Thank you!
I would be so interested in learning about this niche of nursing! I am currently a nurse and I have an interest in dermatology especially as a person of color!
I never knew this was a thing either. I'm currently working on being an Aesthetic RN. I'm in an Aesthetics program & after I'll finish nursing school, BUT now I may pursue this after.
We have the same visions. I’m still in high school but I plan on getting my bsn. Then I plan on becoming an aesthetic nurse for like 3 years then become an nurse practitioner in dermatology.
I’m in esthetician school too!! and after I’m going to go to nursing school too!! Now since I’ve found this video I think I’ve found my career and I know I’m not alone.
I love this video!! I know many colleges don't provide dermatology as a specialty for nursing so it's nice to see that there isn't a direct path for me to get where I wanna be :)
My dreammmm! I worked in dermatology for two years and knew it was my passion. Thank you for the representation looking forward to watching your journey!
Thank you so much for posting this! I'm on my second year of nurse practitioner school and I want to pursue dermatology, this video was so motivational and just what I needed! Thank you, much love!
Im currently finishing up school for esthetics, but im really considering going to school for nursing. I love skin and I love treating skin, but I want to help with more severe cases of skin conditions.
I wish I could contact your sister. I am already an FNP and I want to specialize in Derm! Thank her for her time for us! I really am going to take charge and attend that conference and also look into a job that will allow training.
Im in highschool and im really interested in dermatology Im wondering what differences there are in what a doctor and a NP does in a clinic? Do the nurses mostly work with patients? Im curious because i really could end up in either position and wanna know details thank you!!! 🤠🤠yeehaw
Thank you for this video! I am currently in NP school and dermatology nursing is my goal! Can you ask your sister if the course in Massachusetts is still available? I’m looking online for it and can’t seem to find it. Thanks again!!
ugh! i looked as well and couldnt find it. it looks like they got rid of it :( . you could try calling the school see if they'll be offering it in the future
Omg finally something on UA-cam that answers my question! I’m gonna have to watch this again because I don’t understand how she specialized. Did she say a school in Massachusetts?
Thank you for doing this video. Totally amazing information and motivational. I’d love to be an aesthetic nurse I work in OB currently but have always shared a love for cosmetics...I love women’s health and was struggling with the motivation to get my Fnp but now I have a dual purpose...you ladies are awesome 👏
I just want to say thank you to you and your sister for sharing this information! This is great advice! I am currently in NP school for my FNP and would like to explore derm as a specialty when I graduate in May. If you don't mind me asking, do you know what continuing education course your sister took for dermatology? I am interested in doing some continuing ed before and graduation to make myself a more competitive candidate in the field, but there are SO many different courses out there, I want to find a reputable one. Thanks so much! Keep the amazing content coming! :)
The course she took is no longer offered unfortunately. But there are a handful of fellowship programs in dermatology you can do after graduation. I’ll be talking more about them in an upcoming video. Consider hitting the notification bell so you don’t miss it
I wanna do this omg, I’m an esthetician and I thought that’s all I wanted but I found out about this! I want to be able to administer Botox and I want to do deep chemical peels and cosmetic procedures. I love skincare. I’m confused on how to go about this because my different schools offer different type of programs. Ex: ASN, RN-BSN & den after that idk what to do What’s better BSN-MSN or BSN-DNP What’s the difference I don’t get it, arent MSN & DNP both nurse practitioners??
I know I’m very late to this video haha, but I am currently in my second semester of my ASN, RN. I eventually would love to be a Dermatology NP but very unsure of what kind of degree to pursue next, as in straight into a RN to MSN or getting my BSN then getting my MSN after. Any advice would help so much! Love your videos💗💗
Thanks so much for this video! I’m an travel Medical Assistant/CNA. I make 6 figures traveling with Acuity International and ACI Federal. I’m currently working towards my RN and then my Nurse Practitioner. I have hopes of starting my own Practice in Dermatology/MedSpa. I really want to start attending Dermatology seminars. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
This is exactly my career goal! Thank you for sharing! I'm finishing up my BSN this May but I want to learn as much Derm as I possibly can before I start NP school. Can you specify the exact online program that you went to at Boston for Derm? I would like to follow your steps to get to my goal. Thanks so much!!!!
Thank you so much for posting this video!! Does your sister recommend any dermatology education texts new FNPs can use for at home education? Or any other online courses we can look into since the U mass Boston course is no longer available? Thank you again!
Hey! Love this video! Can you please ask your sister if there are certain procedures that she is limited to that only the MD can do? I want to go into dermatology, I will receive my RN in 2020 & I’m torn between FNP or applying to med school and taking a residency in dermatology. Thanks so much ❤️
Wow thank you for this video. I’ve recently come upon the dermatology side of NP and very interested. If you wouldn’t mind asking your sister how she sees the field for a male nurse. Any big challenges besides the obvious? Thank you again
Did you enroll in the derm course as a non-degree for more education? That’s a wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing some of your background. I’m currently applying to DNP programs and I have always loved skin. I live in a rural community and I know that derm may be more difficult to pursue.
If I’m not mistaken, Yes! You will need to obtain your bachelors to continue onto further educations such as obtaining your MSN or DNP for specialties such as her’s
I want to pursue a DNP, and I was wondering if as a DNP i could participate in cyst draining? It's one of the things about dermatology that really interests me.
I live in the UK I am about to start school in sep to study to be a nurse and then I'll be training for 2 years to be qualified to become a dermatology nurse.
So I am in the process of clearing up my skin, and I feel like my dermatologist has been such a light in my life. So I am thinking of pursuing dermatology to help others who dealt with severe acne like me, and to learn more about the skin. Can you ask your sister if she ever went to school with someone in the same field, who didn’t have perfect skin but still pursued this career?
Hi please tell me where I can get that wig with the bangs 🙏🏽 I am starting to lose my hair. My doctor said it's an autoimmune disease that we doesn't know what caused it
What is her salary? Is it comparable to a typical FNP working in a primary care office? Or is it higher since it is a specialty. Im going to be starting my AGNP soon and I’m considering Derm! Thanks!
I’m about to about to apply to NP school and this is EXACTLY what I want to do! Thank you guys so much for sharing!!
Bri Harling Me too! I have been searching for information on this exact topic for MONTHS! So glad I found this!

I’ve been debating this field recently and this video really gave me the inspiration to go after it! Thank you for sharing!
Would an LPN with an esthetician license be useful to a dermatologist? I am considering becoming an LPN and I'm already a licensed esthetician.
I loved this interview!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for this video!! I’m currently an Adult NP and I aspire to specialize in Derm! Great tips 😊
