    Bob Marvel is the man. His 1911's set the bar pretty darned high to the point where he supplied 1911's for a spell to special operations. They went bang every time under all sorts of crazy conditions. I'm so glad that he worked with Nighthawk to show them how build a gun to his specs. Truly a remarkable pistol.

    My opinion about 1911 pistols are platforms just like AR15 rifles. The expensive custom ones are more accurate and more better looking guns indeed but i seen them fail to, they are not fail free.
    The cheap ones are more prone to be lemons but if you get one of those decently working out of the box changing the extractor, spring and using Wilson mags you can have a very decent 1911.

It's mostly just that guys with money want cool shit. A Timex watch is $20 and the most common Rolex is $10,000. They both tell them time but, no one is going to say " Hey, badass Timex, can I try it on ?".
      Guys who own a Rolex, noticed when others have one. Guys who wear a Timex, don't anyones watch.

    I don't have any issue paying ridiculous dollars for high end products, but I just can't find any value in guns like these. It is functionally identical to my sub $1000 nitride coated 1911 and looks nearly identical too. Ferrari would never get away with building the exact same Mustang GT as Ford makes then charge $200k because it's all hand-made and signed by the assembly team.

      @Texas Plinking no offense, I've seen many on UA-cam when reviewing expensive guns most of the time they say it's not mine, maybe they dont want people to know how rich they are, or how poor decision they made, Cabots are definitely top of the line when it comes to quality and finish and technology, I've never own one, but top gun channels reviewed them, in terms of shooting, even the cheeapest 1911 shoots better and more accurate than 99% of shooters out there, especially if you know a good Gunsmith they can tune them to be a nails driver.

      i have a trp operator. they are absolutely great guns but not without their own gimmicks. they have mim parts that some people care about. mine has been 100% reliable. it wont feed empty casings from a mag though. dan wesson edges them out on quality. if i had to do it over, i'd get a dan wesson over the trp. i may even sell the trp for a dw.

    • @traeucity6087
      @traeucity6087 6 років тому +2

      grr ummmpee, do not sell your TRP for a Dan Wesson; unless that is the only way for you to be able to get the Dan Wesson. I have three TRP's and five Dan Wesson's. Other than bragging rights or pride of ownership; you will gain NOTHING in accuracy potential or dependability, by "upgrading" to the DW. In fact, I had to send my Valor back to DW, because they installed the wrong height, front sight. Their customer service was outstanding, though. My VBob is excellent; and I wouldn't trade it for any gun. I feel the same about all of my TRP's. MIM parts is something guys bring up, to justify spending hundreds or thousands more than someone else. I have 1911's from nearly every well known manufacturer, and I can tell you, truthfully; the guns with MIM parts shoot as well, and so far, are as dependable as my guns with forged parts. If you know someone with a Dan Wesson; see if they will allow you to fire their gun from a rest, at 25 and 50 yards; against your TRP Operator. Then you will know for sure, whether their gun is worth $700-$900 more than your gun.

    • @traeucity6087
      @traeucity6087 6 років тому +2

      Samuel S, I have three TRP's; and they are GREAT guns! So accurate; it's scary. I had to add the Dawson, Tool-Less Guide Rod System to both of my Operators, to make them perfect for me. I put a set of Grashorn Gun Works, Elk horn grips on the Stainless Loaded TRP. It looks like a barbecue gun; and performs like a fighting gun. You will not be disappointed with any version you choose.

    • @carl-ok9gn
      @carl-ok9gn 6 років тому +2

      The dw's are the same price as the trp operator. i have tens of thousands of rounds through 1911's paid for by the govt. i got the trp after i got out to have a decent 1911 that i could afford at the time. i don't deny at all it's a great gun. however, with LOTS of rounds out of it, i have a feeling (just a feeling, no actual indication) that it may wear worse than the dw's i've messed around with a little bit. as for mim. i think it's dumb that it exists in 1911's but it doesn't really put me off. they are decent from what i've seen and are used for parts that dont really see the wear that justifies not using them. however, it's the value aspect of paying nearly the same amount for both guns and getting "better" parts in one over the other. my trp operator wont feed empty cases from a mag, one of the dan wessons i've seen did. a few others dont. i frankly dont have enough rounds out of the trp to make any kind of conclusion. paying for my own ammo is a big limiter...

    I don't think you justified the purchase. :) Would I spend $5k on a 1911? If I could afford to of course...I suppose I would but because "I could". I don't think it's actually worth $5k. It's not 3-4x better than a Kimber of Dan Wesson. Buying one won't magically make us better shooters. For what? Another idem for "bragging rights". Just as a new Porsche 911 would be to car buddies. Something to say "you've made it (or spent money... a lot of...on something you shouldn't have)".
    What's ironic is...the guys with the biggest gun collections are usually the guys with the lower income. Blue Collar Joe. Meanwhile "sensible Jack's" with their college education, good job, million dollar homes, cars, kids...etc. Have the smaller gun collections. Usually a few pistols for range day. Once a month..maybe. And a few shotguns for skeet and/or trap. That's about it.
    They live in multi-million dollar homes. Nice mortgages. And drive "average" cars. Not the 911's. Usually. Cars you'd see in most other neighbourhoods.
