Free tutorial "The Basics of making end grain cutting boards" - eepurl.com/brMc_5
Time to time I make magnetic knifeholders. I don't like any holes in the the holder, so I decided to use the same magnets for mounting.

I have learned more from your videos for things unrelated to woodworking than from many other things. And then, there is the woodworking related stuff of course.
@6:25 - That's a LOT of holders and magnets!!! Great job, Andrei, nice improvement from the first set. Hope your customers like them!
wow those are powerful magnets holding large items like the axe. great idea and a nice change fir you too!
Thank you for showing the wood species at the end, they are all beautiful.
OK, the metal sheet to place the magnets for epoxy was a stroke of genius.
Had a good laugh when even the ax stayed in place lol Great work!
Lovely little project! Very good performance!
Greetings from Bulgaria
Another line of excellent products from MTMwood. The magnet breaking was surprising. Your idea to mount them over a metal table was innovative! The twin boys hair color is surprisingly different (unless mommy is coloring it - haha) might be more work but how about filling your CNC cut logo with a gold tinted epoxy since you have to sand after anyway. Just a thought.
MRrwmac I will try this. Thanks!
Great Video! I was thinking to make these as christmas gifts out of Koa scrap I have in the shop. Your mounting method is very well thought out.
Day after day my admiration for your renewed
You are a creative person :)
I always learn something from watching your videos & your work continues to amaze me! Loved the clips of the children.....
Sapele Steve Thanks! I change the design of the holder for the forth tome.
Hey .. really like your videos. Nice to see something different than cutting boards this time.
+Tomasz Szymański did you see the AWESOME Chess board? or table top? they rock too!!!
I have seen them all :)
Every time I watch your videos I wish I had a badass planer. Snipe sucks.
I like the looks of the Movingui wood. Those are really cool
Love the knife holders! Would look cool to have a metal cap or band on the last 1/2" of the board on each end. Very thin metal like brass, stainless etc... could also engrave the metal wit the logo.
wow those are awesome. wish i had a cmc router . never thought of those out of wood. nice work
I liked the end when you showed how you package them
Just found your channel. Very well done. Great content, informative and detailed. Can't stop watching. Thank you from the UK. Will be ordering one of these in Oak.
Simon M Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I was doing the same project for my kitchen but the only idea I had to hide the screws that we're going to be in the front, was to make wood plugs but the metal bar is definitely better, less permanent.
Great video and really impressed with level of quality. Thanks for sharing.
You do beautiful work and this is one I really wanted to do But.I don't have the 10's of thousand's of dollars worth of equipment you do though. You have a carpenters dream shop. Have you ever done any videos that did not need such expensive equipment to do. Don't get me wrong I love watching your videos and will continue to watch "and dream". You have a gift and are a true artist. Thank you
butch holland I just show my work, not try to teach anybody and get new subscribers. There are a lot of DIY videos on UA-cam. Thanks!
+mtmwood Thank you for being honest. I can watch your videos all day, You do such beautiful work. Take care and hope you have many great adventures in life. NNTR.
butch holland Thanks!
Very well done !! Amazingly strong as well.
I ran across your videos...i cant stop watching O_O your work is just awesome!
If only I could get such beautiful wood here :)
Great to see how someone else does it.
Very nice. Great job on the editing too. Douglas
Well done : ) Big fan of anything done in Ash..
mtmwood Wow, what language is this?
Adrian Cardenas Russian
btw, I want your drum sander too ;) awsome tools to perform the work you do. Also many videos show you have some beautiful brick streets.. Love it. This might actually make the list of items to make for x-mas gifts.
Nice project!!
Good to see the metal inspectors are doing a fine job too. Love the hat and shirts.
JimE
Jim E Thanks, Jim. Hammer is a favorite tool.
Great as always. Very nice product.
you do such awesome work
I think I like the metal back more than the wood ones. are they the same price 😀 Also nice to see the boys, don't they grow up quickly
Excellent work! Thank you for sharing!
exelente amigo saludos desde mexico
I keep wondering when will you post the shop tour?
Yustin Zhu Soon
Nice work, you could also make an end grain version of this! Also I guess putting some epoxy under the magnets wouldn't harm...
3zuli I thought about this. The holder in this design is very thin, only 13 mm. The diameter of the pocket is 21.5 mm, the magnet - 20 mm. So the the glue is around the magnet.
FANTÁSTICO! VOCÊ É O MELHOR!!!
nice video Andrei! Wow your sons are growing so fast!!! Excellent solution to use the metal table top. I like watching the CNC carve your logo...
Could you use a sander to clean the metal? That tumbler machine ran all night, seems like a long time to me. I wish you and your family the best.
Patrick Melchior It is a long and hard work to clean the strips with the sander. Thanks!
+Patrick Melchior if you're doing just one strip, it's faster with a sander, but if you're doing like, a whole bunch of them, well
+mtmwood Try 3M scotch bright or even better 3M "Roloc" disks in say 36 grit on a right angle die grinder. Each bar would take maybe 30 seconds and be surprisingly smooth despite the 36 grit. Hell I use them doing prep work for auto body and I can go right to primer after using one. Very awesome tool!
Evan Zerby Never used them. Are they only for metalworking?
mtmwood They were made for metal working, but will grind away anything you want to. Here's what I'm talking about: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FMK7BU/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687442&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B008S37KEK&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0WA3838MW3EABRHDGACG
The real secret to the finish is the speed that they spin. I use one of these (different brand) and spin it at around 20,000RPM: www.amazon.com/In-Die-Grinder-Degree-Angle/dp/B00061SF5K
Brilliant. Do you teach yourself all of this or do you have other inspiration? I haven't seen anything like this on UA-cam and cant wait till you are one of the top woodworking channels on here!
+Benjamin Davis I don't have any woodworking education.
Very cool! I have a possibly strange question for you, however. Are there any special regulations you have to follow when you're shipping such strong magnets like that? Do you have to mark the package in any special way? I could see that package possibly messing up some electronic device being shipped if it was put on the same shelf or in the same bag at the post office. I'm just curious - that's all.
Mark Lindsay I don't know this restrictions. I got a thousand of magnets in standard package.
mtmwood Okay, thank you. I was just wondering if you knew. I've never heard of any either.
I bought one of those from you a long time ago, the spaces between the magnets don't want to hold small knifes (boning knife etc.) and the knifes get magnetised so my cleaver pulls my other knifes closer to it.
Did you update the design?
Would it be possible to make an updated design with 2 rows of weaker bar magnets? That should stabilize the knifes and leave much smaller gaps.
I love your work, I am actually starting to make better cutting boards thanks to your videos. Where do you order those magnets I always get ones that do not hold up?
In China.
Very cool and nice, thank you for sharing.
Do you know if the epoxy creeps under the magnets? Very nice product, all the best for selling!
norm1124 I don't know. Maybe. I've read that if you bury the two neodymium magnets in the ground to a depth of one meter and a distance of 25 meters they will connect in 10 years.:)
Espetacular trabalho! Abraço!
I'm stuck on you! Very nice.
Lou Adzima Thanks!
Really cool...
Where on earth did you find so many magnets at a reasonable price? I've tried finding them here in the US but it seems like anything over 10mm gets exponentially more expensive.
In China.
I've been subscribed to your channel for a year or more now and I still love every single project you do. These knife holders, although simple, are really effective and so nice. I design and install custom kitchens and I would love to be able to give these out as gifts to a client after completing a kitchen. Perhaps you could even put my logo on as well? Do you ship to South Africa? What is the cost of these?
Regards
Juan
+Juan Brand Yes, I can engrave your logo. We ship worldwide. The prices - mtmwood.com/en/knifeholder.php
Thanks!
+mtmwood Thank you
Watching the logo being enscribed: p... po... poo?... poom?? Oh, wood :|
XxAtomix112 :)
I like how you let your kids learn... just have a go.
Great idea. Where did you order these magnets from??
great work as usual!
+Denis Timichev
Where did you get all of those magnets? They are very expensive anywhere I find them
You are very smart :D
i would like to know what v-carve bit were you using to get such fine detail printing your logo that small.
eddie barnes 45 degree here.
Would you be willing to send me the cnc file or provide me with the material thickness and the depth of the pocket for the magnets?
Nice! I am new to woodworking and am plan on to make a few cutting boards. Have any tips? Also how much would a simple checkers pattern cost on a cutting board by me- in America dollars(I can convert it to America if you do not know how)
Not by me... By you..
Thank you for sharing your amazing work and tips with us.
I know you have a high-Z CNC, the results look really good. Is it difficult to use ? (I know how to use sketchup fairly well). If you were to purchase your CNC today, would you still buy that one or would you get a different one ? Do you have a better recommendation for someone that want to make medium size pieces (
+Roman Wisznia I don't know other machines. High-Z is really good, but expensive. This machine is easy to use if you studied CAD/CAM software well.
Where do you get the magnets?
that's a lot of damn magnets!
dominic cristante It explains why his videos attract alot of views :D
dominic cristante I bought one thousand at discount price.:)
mtmwood Any chance you would share where you got them?
Try AliExpress. I bought them three years ago.
Great work! It's hard to find good strong magnets, where do you get yours?
+Keith Orlando Russia
is linseed oil the only finish you put on them ?
+Fred V. Lord of Glencoe Yes.
Love your videos, do you mind if I ask where you get your magnets. Thank you
+Jim D I buy them online in Russia.
Hi- all I saw on the finish in English was "exterior oil tintable"- can you tell me exactly what kind of oil this is, and is it food safe? If not, do you have to include some kind of warning? Thanks...
+Lucas Finley This is linseed oil.
+mtmwood Do you tint the oil at some point ?
Fred V. Lord of Glencoe No. I don't know any methods.
+Ваня Чемпион Галтовочный барабан - ua-cam.com/video/2c_EViVmUck/v-deo.html
Where did you get that huge amount of magnets from? I would love to have that much to use and play with.
Adam R China
+Adam R banggood... it's a site, not an advice
Geez, Im in the very small minority here but I think this is the first project Ive seen you ever make that is silly.
Albert Kelly Why?
Please dont be offended, you are still a magician with wood but I just feel this knife holder is a silly solution that exposes knives in a dangerous way whilst also using unecessary resources [so many magnets] for no real gain in ease of use/ utility.
Albert Kelly These are just items for sale. Sometimes people like to have the knife holder in the same design as cutting board. Also I've never met magnetic mounting solution. I think this could be interesting for other woodworkers.
great design and product as always! what size of magnets did you use?
Tamás Elkán They are 20x3mm :)
Thanks, I wasn't watching carefully:).
mtmwood Great video man! :) Im loving your work and the content you provide :D
Do you an english version of your website? I would love to buy one of these
JHWT Yes, of course - mtmwood.com/en/knifeholder.php
love your work. ....any way to get a custom board myself?
+BigWolfage Write me what board you want.
+mtmwood im not sure about the deminsions of cutting boards or anything but i do want sort of a large and thick one. i wanty my last name Wolfe in it maybe with an emblem or somthing behind it or next to it
BigWolfage You can visit my Gallery - mtmwood.com/en/?route=product/manufacturer/info&manufacturer_id=11. Choose the woods and dimensions. I can make an inlay.
+mtmwood not sure how to choose....it just shows me boards uve made no like wood or size choices. also if we could communicate by email. that would be better
thnks
brailonwolfe@gmail.com
BigWolfage Hello,
To make the board for you I should know:
- the woods
- the dimensions
- the pattern if you want any
Then I will calculate the price.
I was said that you email is wrong. Write me - amforpost@gmail.com
