Thank you for testing the AC system. This was very helpful under real world conditions.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video. I have a couple of comments: 1) You should run it with the solar panels disconnected to really assess the battery charge only (and simulate how it would be at night). 2) You should have 1 person or 2 inside during the test. Humans produce around 80 W of heat just for doing nothing (like sleeping). Alternatively just add two 40 W light bulbs powered from an outside source. Thanks again!
Thanks for the idea!
When I’m camping most sites are shaded by trees. So it would be interesting knowing how long the lithium batteries would last if only getting partially powered by the solar panels. As one of the commented said “… under real world conditions”. Is there a plan to redo this test?
This is a helpful test with good info, thanks. The Revel's batteries did much better than I thought it would. However, I really wish the Revel had more battery power. 3,200 watts is too small for my needs (although I'm sure it would be fine for many other people). About 8,000 watts would be more useful.
Good morning Paul! We can simply add 2-3 more for you, no problem.
@@LichtsinnRV Where is there room to place the extra batteries and what is the most wattage that can be obtained?
@@noahklein360 Good evening! Thanks for your note! We can add 1 in the compartment left of the batteries. This would bring you to 4800 watts. We can add more if necessary in the gear garage, 1600 watts each. Hope this helps!
@@unkletonyahearns179 Good afternoon! Just reach out to our service team at 800.343.6255 on cost per battery and if you wish to also have added batteries heat wrapped
@@unkletonyahearns179 you don't want to know. Way too expensive and overcharged (no pun intended)!
Thank you for this real world test! Let me grab my check book.
Glad it was helpful!
I apologize if already answered but could you not just start the truck and run the engine AC a max periodically to help assist with roof ac? Just seems like a simple assist to keep sone comfortable. Fuel should not be an issue.
@@stevenhorwood1300 Good evening Steven! Thanks for your note! Yes the cab AC will assist with cooling... just keep in mind the Mercedes Diesel should not be idled for extended period for prevention of clogging an EPA mandated particulate filter. Hope this helps!
@@stevenhorwood1300 unfortunately Mercedes has chosen to not allow you to run the alternator at idol. You have to drive 2 hours to recharge the batteries. What a waste of technology!
Little over 6 hours on 2 batteries.
Honestly that’s pretty good. I’ll assume your outside and some solar is coming into the batteries. An external panel or another on the roof would surely help. Does the revel have an under hood generator like the Trevago? Or the auto start feature? Both would definitely improve the Revel in the off grid category.
Good afternoon! Thanks for your note... yes it was an impressive test, outdoors with a mix of clouds and sun. Added solar could help. Mercedes does not allow the autostart as it could idle and clog particulate filters. Glad we could help.
And yes there is a second under the hood alternator to charge the lithium
@@LichtsinnRV Why testing the air condition has anything to do with Mercedes' autostart?
@@JD-kf2ki Good morning! Unfortunately Mercedes Benz does not allow the auto start features as you may have studied in a Promaster chassis such as the Travato lithium
Great Video..... I can’t wait til Nov. to start shopping.
Dave
Thank you for your feedback!
Finally Revel pulls its head out of its ass and gets air conditioning that can work off grid Bravo
Thank you. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
This is going to be a game changer
Better performance than I anticipated! The 2021 addressed just about every concern I had about the 2020 Revel. Is there room (or an option when ordering to upgrade ) to add in a third battery in the battery bay without fabrication?
Good afternoon! We have been adding a third in the storage just behind the existing two and have even added a 4th for a guest, but it would need to be out in the gear garage area, which the guest plans to then cover. Hope this helps!
Lichtsinn RV @ LichtsinnRV That was quick! Thanks! I was just looking at some pictures trying to figure out where a third could possibly go. I love the Volta system on the Travato National Park Edition but my I have my eye has been on the Revel since it’s release and the lithium system may be the answer that bridges the gap!
The Volta system works great, but just not enough room in the Revel for the battery pack and the larger inverter, DC to DC controller, etc.
why didnt winnebago put in the Pure3 (Volta power system) in the revel? Wen the batteries get low the engine auto idles.
Good evening! Primarily due to size and weight. Note the battery pack could fit but a large 3,600 watt pure sine wave inverter and then a DC to DC converter takes up a lot of room.
Thanks for sharing your your test. Can a third battery be added so the A/C can run 8 hrs ? Thanks
Good morning! Absolutely, no problem!
Good starting information. What color was the one that was tested? Was it parked on the parking lot? Was it full sun or some clouds?
Good afternoon! It was Blue Grey exterior, parked outside on the South end of our dealership, facing West, with a mix of sun and clouds all day. Hope this helps!
20 degrees back would be 67. What am I missing?
Good morning! We set 20 degrees back of the forecast high which is the mid 90s.
I thought that to maximize life of the LiFePO4 batteries that you should not drain them below 10%??
Good morning! The SOC gauge is calibrated with the 10% reserve already reduced. Hope this helps!
It's OK to drain even to 0% , but not too often and not let it sit for too long in deeply discharged state. The life is shortened by accumulated time spent at deeply discharged state, so if time is short, there is no negative effect.
What happens if you bring a generator? How
much power can you put into the batteries? Or would you just bypass the batteries and go directly off the generator ? Thanks
Good morning! This would be a great solution... the AC will run off the generator and simultaneously charge the lithium, in addition to the solar
great video, what if no sun and battery low ? is there a generator underhood auto start? thanks
Good afternoon Jeff! Thanks for your note... there is a second under the hood alternator - Mercedes does not allow auto start.
@@LichtsinnRV thanks, I live in 92618, should I buy from local dealer or from you ? I like to add extra Lithium Battery
@@jeffchen8178 Good morning Jeff! Here is a link that will show you the vast value in working with us: www.lichtsinn.com/blog/why-buy-from-lichtsinn-rv/#:~:text=1.,Learn%20More.
Can you just start the engine to run the onboard generator to charge the batteries ?
Good morning! Yes that will charge the lithium... hope this helps!
How much solar were the panels taking in during the test?
Good afternoon! Not a tremendous amount... mix of clouds and sun
@@LichtsinnRV I think it's important to quantify the solar input, or turn the solar charger off during the test. The factory estimate was 2 hours run time, so wondering how much of the 4 additional hours was due to solar. Great test otherwise!
How long would you have to drive to recharge the batteries to 80%
Good afternoon! Thank you for your note! About 1-2 hours at Highway speeds. Hope this helps!
Can you add more batterys?
Good morning! Yes, you can add additional batteries, no problem
@@LichtsinnRV that is good news if you can add more battery, may I know how many AH extra you can add ? and where the location , underhood ?
Jeff Chen Good afternoon! We have been adding 1-2 batteries in the compartment rearward of the existing batteries or in the gear garage. Hope this helps!
@@LichtsinnRV How many extra batteries could be added?
Stephen Stringer Good morning! We have added two additional to date
Do the new revels have the self start when the batteries hit a certain percentage like the Travatos?
Good afternoon! Thanks for your note! Mercedes does not allow auto start unfortunately
How many watts of panels on the roof? and did you have an external solar panel connected to the vehicle?
Good morning David! We had a mix of clouds and sun, and were only using the standard 215 watts of rooftop solar... no portable added, either.
@@LichtsinnRV Outstanding, awesome video. Thanks for doing a real world test of what everyone really wants to know.
Are we able to lithium upgrade to the 2020 models?
Good afternoon Tim! Absolutely
If boon-docking in a stationary location, how long would it take to fully recharge from 0%-100% the batteries from running the engine in idle?
Good morning David! It is not recommended to idle the Mercedes engine for fear of clogging a particulate filter... recommending instead to use solar to drive the vehicle.
@@LichtsinnRV Got it. Thank you. Do you have any analysis on how many hours it might take to recharge the batteries only using solar under full sun conditions?
@@indexwizz Good question... averaging 6 hours of full sunlight a day, with no added solar, you should be able to recharge 60-65 ah per day.
Which is about 1/3 of the total ah avail
And, finally, can enough solar intake be configured, via bigger capacity up top or external additional panels, to charge up completely in 6 hours?
How would that same test do at night ??
Good afternoon! Presumable much better with cooler temps... the solar add is not as significant as a second under the hood alternator charge. Hope this helps!
Ron,
I'd like to order a new Revel from you. Not one of your salespeople.
Sam
Good morning Sam! Thank you for your note... no problem, happy to work for you!
I have a question about being off grid for an extended period of time, or even wanted to have extended AC run time. I guess I’m trying to better understand capabilities.
If you were not driving and/or it was cloudy you’d lose battery charge. If you had a small inverter generator as a back up and plugged the revel into it, how long would it take to recharge the batteries? Am I correct in assuming that the AC and other things wouldn’t necessarily run on the generator or shore power, but instead run on the battery power, which needs to be recharged by solar, alternator, shore power or generator?
I’ve been leaning towards the travado national park for the power and auto start capabilities. Maybe the revel could work with an interior generator back up.
Sorry meant to say inverter generator back up
That is a really good question Tim! And sounds like a good setup! If you were to stay stationary that long, you could just run the AC off the small 2,000 watt gen (like a Honda or Yamaha) and then the batteries would charge also.
@James Matthews Good afternoon! Thank you for your note! Yes, the Revel does come with a second under the hood alternator; however, auto start is not possible with Mercedes Benz as they do not allow it, primarily due to the risk of clogging the particulate filter. Hope this helps!
