You really need an air assist for that laser. I make those cuts at 250 mm/min at 70% power in one pass. Whithout the edges burned. Thanks for the video!

I know, that is my lacking component, but living in a flat I can't really use any noisy equipment.
I am designing something to be quiet and it will come soon, for the time being, I use a small 150mm fan blowing across.
As for the cutting power I can cut at 300mm/min 85% without air assist with the focal point 1mm below the surface but it is burning the edge more than what you saw in my video, for this reason, I decided to go for a cooler run at almost double speed with 2 passes.
What do you use for your air assist? Standard compressor or these air pumps for fish tanks?

I use a small airbrush compressor with a 1 gallon air tank. An airbrush compressor is much quieter than a fish tank compressor., I tried one of those and they're too noisy for me. I have my 40W in my office so it needs to be quiet. My 30W and my K40 are out in the shop so I only annoy myself with the noise. 😁

Hello. I'm very satisfied with the cutting (a40640), but still struggling to find best settings for engraving smaller and thinner text.
Care to share your settings for engraving text? I'm focusing the beam by setting the material 17mm bellow lowest point on the laser head. I recently stumbled upon a comment on reddit which says to try the engraving with focus distance 20mm and I've got slightly better and consistent results with this setup (for engraving).
Material: poplar plywood 3mm - cut (75% @ 250mm/min @ 1pass), engrave (15% @ 1500mm/min @ fill). On harder wood (eg. beech/mdf) engraving is better.

This is a typical budget machine using 1/16 Microsteps with a mechanical resolution of about 0.0125mm.
