      the artist of the mv studied art in china. she took ideas from the culture, used it in the mv and now clueless people are calling it “Korean”. Chinese people would have appreciated it if starship acknowledged the fact that it was inspired by china, but everyone is painting it as korean. Hate against Chinese people is real because when idols steal from black culture by doing braids everyone is hating but when idols steal from Chinese culture is “oh it’s rich coming from them”. Many Chinese things nowadays are getting rebranded as korean like tanghulu, malatang, nails, makeup, shops/brands etc. and even if they aren’t specified as “Korean”, the media has advertised and marketed these things as Korean (or japanese) and then everyone from the west believes it’s Korean because Korean culture is better than China in their eyes. Cultural appreciation is fine, but claiming obvious cultural items and art that is not korean to be korean is NOT. I wish people would just get the point first, instead of hurling racist comments towards chinese people for being angry that their own culture is being claimed as korean.

      Moreover, China has repeatedly expressed a desire for bilateral negotiations to resolve these disputes peacefully and cooperatively, aiming to find solutions that respect the interests of all involved parties.

      i'm chinese and have done a lot of research on chinese, korean, japanese, etc. culture recently and in the past and there is definitely some similarities between these major east asian countries, but they're still individual countries. understandably, since many east asian countries were ruled by different dynasties of mongolia and china, they'll have similarities in things such as religion, similar regional holidays, traditions, and things like that which have been shared by these countries for centuries. however, that's not to say that they're exactly the same or that one culture is the same as another culture. there are cultural differences, including cuisine, clothing, language (including dialects, as each region within even a single country may have a different one), etc. putting them together and saying one is exactly like the other isn't true, as it seems you're doing here. that could be considered racism depending on who you ask, with a stereotype similar to "all look same" where people from the same or different countries are compared far too closely to one another that their differences are lost.

      It’s the same with the US and Latin America. European culture IS the Americas culture. It’s literally the basis of the current culture in the Americas. Just like indigenous culture IS American culture. And African culture IS American culture. All of these are the basis for cultures in the Americas. Just trying to explain to those who don’t understand why “stealing culture” is a thing.
    Koreans claim many cultural heritages as their own even if it is certainly not. Examples include but not limited to: claiming Confucius as Korean, claiming they invent dragon boat festival, cropping and using images of Hanfu as propaganda for Hanbok (which comes from hanfu) and the “beautiful korean culture”and many other cultures that originate from China as originating from Korea and terming the items as “traditional korean”. And Chinese people since they pretty much have their own social media apps so they won’t see what koreans are doing on western social media and applying to UNESCO.
    YES. East Asia have similar or partly-shared culture, but this is mostly based on China which has been spreading culture to these other regions for thousands of years and places like Korea learned and adopted the culture rather than inventing them themselves. If you still don’t understand, just think of UK or France or any other country of western civilization claiming they own and invent the ancient roman art and architecture and saying Aristotle is British or French, or American people saying they invent pizza. Hope yah know what i meant now😅

  • @Wynn.E
    @Wynn.E 3 місяці тому

    So, concerning the cultural stealing in the M/V, China and Korea have always seemed to have this disagreement about whether something is inherently from one culture or the other. For example: historical myths, medicine, and clothing are often debated between the countries. China says Korea stole from their culture and saying that it's "actually Chinese," and then Korea will state that it's a tradition in Korea as a rebuttal. This is just something I've noticed, regardless of IVE's position as it's happened prior to IVE as well.
    It's not the citizen's fault (or the group in those case) of what it's taught to know or do. It's the teacher/government's responsibility to inform the citizen. So, if Starship was trying to misappropriate Chinese culture, then Starship is at fault and IVE is innocent unless they were knowingly doing this.
    However, anthropological speaking, historical recollections of myths and stories are often similar in different parts of the world. Like how a lot of Shonen anime reference Journey to the West (a Chinese epic). Or how imperialism, feudalism, and colonization will ultimately reshape how one tells their own history. So, there may be a little truth here, but we cannot say for certain.

    Comments about cultural appropriation are often hypocritical. Like, you want a certain culture to be promoted and recognized but, once it is enjoyed and appreciated by people from other cultures to the point where they want to make it a part of their lives, you call them thieves.
    Keep your Chinese culture to yourself and don’t listen di K-Pop, then!

      People don't have a problem with chinese culture being used in the music video. for example, svt's super have clearly stated that they took inspo from jurney to the west, but ive advertised chinese culture as korean, which is blatant theft

      @@mr.tawakalYujin explicitly stated that the comeback was based off Korean culture and style, with no mentions of Chinese culture. This sentence isn’t wrong as there are Korean elements as well, but making it all about Korean culture and speaking nothing about Chinese culture when several Chinese elements were used in the MV, members’ outfits and comeback stage set is not alright. If Starship or the members had said one sentence about the MV being inspired by Chinese culture, Chinese people would have praised IVE a lot, but they did not.

    Idk a thing about Chinese/South Korean cultural crossover, but I do know that China has plenty of options over Miu Miu, like Temu and Aliexpress, where "original" Chinese designs abound 😅

    I think what people are mad about it’s not them using the concept, but it’s the fact that it is stated as Korean traditional style, when most of it is influenced by ancient china. This will confuse people who are not really familiar with Asian culture and make them think that these are truly solely Korean style. tbh although I’m Chinese myself but I am not that familiar with the difference, but I’m just summarizing what I’ve seen online. Judging by the comments around this topic, although both side have irrational people, I do tend to see a lot of Korean netizens who refuses to give any credit to china. We all understand that similarity lies within the different cultures but this feels like plagiarism in a way since china is not addressed and credited at all for the elements.

      100%, that's why many chinese netizens are upset is because it's stated as korean culture, but when it really has chinese elements.
