Made it my routine over the last few months to go to the gym in the morning and watching the vlog on the treadmill each weekday morning. Helps keep me consistent and it's a good way to start the day. Thank you for the help with consistency. The morning video's come out at the perfect time here in Michigan.
QD: Hawaii was the most relaxing place for me. I booked a holiday to Hawaii for our 30th anniversary in 2013. Pearls are the traditional gift for 30th, so we went to Pearl Harbor (on 7 December), with Diamonds the modern gift, so our hotel had an amazing view of Diamond Head. Our anniversary was on the Tuesday, and our hotel held a free Hawaiian vow renewal service on Waikiki Beach, near where Elvis got married in Blue Hawaii. The hotel was only a 5 minute walk from part of the Hawaiian Marathon so I went and watched all the runners go passed. I hadn't run since I got ITBS in 1986, but was so inspired, when I got home I purchased a pair of shoes and took my first run on 31 December and have kept running since then. So not only was it relaxing, but it changed my life for the better as well.
Sitting on the bus heading to Hopkinton and checking out DGR. Seth, thank you for all of the inspiration, information and encouragement. Best to all that ran Chicago, Boston or any other race this weekend!
I ran about 10 miles out of the Box. Mizuno, If you read this please lower the drop about 2/4 mm and make it a 4 to 6 mm Drop shoe with a GUSSETED TONGUE. And you will have a AWESOME shoe on your hands. Thank you! Seth thank you for your awesome review of this Shoe!
The woods. I just spent two weeks in a caravan next to woods and moors. Unfortunately no running because of a bad knee problem, so just walking. No other sounds than that of birds, the wind in the trees and the occasional boar (we surprised each other, looked at each other for a minute or two and went our separate ways). Just quietly walking taking notice of everything around me. Now I'm home again full of new energy and ideas.
I have no experience with the brand. In other news, I ran a half marathon yesterday in Long Beach with my S/E Speeds V1 at a time of 2:11:07. Not bad for a 65 year old who just started running this year from scratch. I will keep it simple: In my easy chair watching TV with my beloved cat purring in my lap when the day is done.
QD: Most relaxing place is laying in bed after you just wake up, on a rest day, knowing you have absolutely nothing to do (or at least nothing immediately), having juat peed and crawled back in bed. Nothing really better than that!
Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores, AL. The weather was perfect, the waves were calm. I spent 4 days there and it was the most relaxed I've ever been on vacation.
I have three Mizuno shoes, the wave sky 3,the wave sonic 2 and the wave shadow 4. My favorite one is the wave shadow 4, as is the most versatile, great speed training an even ran a half marathon with them.
QD: I distinctly remember visiting Yosemite in October 2007. Made the beautiful hike from the valley to Half Dome. The cables were down, but I climbed to the top nevertheless. Up there I was all alone. I sat on a protruding ledge on the edge of the big face, watching over the valley. It was amazingly serene, quite unreal!
It has a glass fiber plate for a change. Similar glass plate inside the Adidas Takumi (2021) . I belive that the idea to make glass fiber instead using the other material is to have much similar weight and durability of the carbon fiber plates with less cost . Seems a nice trainer for short bursts up to 10km .
Prince Edward Island, Canada. Lobster, lighthouses and Anne of Green Gables in a laid back island atmosphere. My wife and I spent a week there in 2012 with another couple and it was just beautiful and relaxing.
Hi Seth, I think your shoe reviews are the best on UA-cam and I have an idea for a vlog - take the best of the best from all your reviews this year in terms of fit, upper, midsole, energy return, outsole and price to create the perfect shoe.
QoD - Barbados - spent a week there running (90km in the week) and recovering afterwards in a hammock on the porch - best of all was doing speed session at the horse racing track trying to keep up with race horses!
During an adventure race it was about 5am I was sitting by a lake at the bottom of snowden in Wales watching a fish jumping out of water . Can still see it clear as day over 20years later 😁
I have the Speed 2, Mark 4 and the New Balance RC elite two. My favorite shoe is the Mizuno rebellion. This is the first Mizuno that I've ever bought. I love the plate in there because it gives it a great aggressive rocker motion. Every time I put the shoe on I run my fastest times ever. This shoe is great for the road, the trail, and even the track. Way faster and I mean way faster than the Saucony speed 2. My first race was a half marathon in Columbia Missouri and it was a trail run. I saved about three minutes off my half marathon. I'm thinking about using the shoe when I run the Magnolia Silo District Marathon in Texas. I love my New Balance RC elite 2 but I think they might be too soft for a long distance.
As far as durability goes I'd have to give Karhu a well deserved shoutout. Even though they aren't my favorite brand to run in I've had several pairs with hundreds of miles on them before they show signs of wear. They remind me of Toyota trucks in the fact that even with higher mileage they still ride good as new. For a brand which such a rich history it's too bad more people aren't familiar with them.
Mizuno waiveraider is still my preferred shoe, they last 500+ miles, vs asics that I can only use 300+. They were leading in the era of stiff soles, but with softer and bouncy foams, thing are changing a bit. The plate work better for heel strikers, and you Set are a fore foot striker, may be that is why you don’t like it. I bought the Hokas match 4 based on your review, but they never fit well for me. May be we have very different foot strike, and mizuno does not work well for you. And for a daily trainer, I prefer a shoe not too light, so I feel the difference in race day.
I received a pair of Rebellion to test and I guess that I’ve become too used soft cushion shoes. I wasn’t a huge fan of their firm ride. I almost felt like I was wearing tap shoes during my runs.
I work offshore, sometimes, in that 6 to 8pm period, we have massive skies that seem straight out of à Miyazaki movie or a Dutch Masters painting. I end up sitting somewhere staring at the heavens until it is dark (or my shift starts).
QD: Strangely enough the most relaxing place I’ve ever been was 10000 feet above the earth the first time I went skydiving. Even during the adrenaline rush of free falling, I remember thinking to myself that I have never felt more free. Once the chute opened and I floated back down to reality, I just gazed around in amazement at the earth with a slight wind through my chute being the only noise. To this day it was the most relaxing and peaceful place I ever had been.
QD: The island Bali in Indonesia. Stepping out of the airplane in de middle of the night and it felt like walking in to a warm garden greenhouse. So so relaxing! I enjoyed the friendly culture and amazing food for 3 weeks. No running its just way to hot and humid for it.
If you want to try out a Mizuno without a wave plate you should try the Wave Sky 5. A bit on the heavier side but super well cushioned and bouncy for a daily trainer.
The wave sonic too. Super nice feeling shoe, lightweight you can train or race in them and they look great, no flashy colors or weird patterns. Fantastic all around shoe
Hahaha, as you read the comment of the day about "where you watch the blog" and multitasking....im in the 🚿 and watching the blog..... and QD, a hammock camping in the UP by a lake.
QD: St. Augustine, Florida, or on a cruise ship. Seems like this shoe is similar to Asics new Kinsei Blast running shoe, where the Asics is using FF Blast, a pebax plate from heel to mid foot, and, of course, Asics GEL. The price point is exactly the same, too. $180, which is a little insane to me, but I think you hit it on the head with some companies needing to lose that “signature” piece to make the shoes better, like coming back to Asics. No GEL in the Novablast, and it’s an amazing daily trainer. If Mizuno could rid of that plate, they’d probably have a really awesome daily offering, but would need to price it around the Novablast/Pegasus/Velocity Nitro range.
I have almost 450 miles on my wave rider 23's that I got earlier this year. They work just fine for daily trucking along. But when I replace them I think I will go for something that is like the Speed that I have for longer runs. I am thinking Novablasts or the Endorphin Shift
@@nunoborgesdias6332 I ended up on a bit of a long path of shoes not working for me. I got the Mach 4 and returned them after 8 miles because Hoka's sadly just destroy my little toes due to some unknown reason of my foot not agreeing with their toe box. I then got the NB 1080 V11 that I got 150 miles in before the heel counter on that thing causing severe pain (pain started after like 20 miles but I kept using them before giving them away). I now am on a pair of novablast 1's that I got for $70. They work well enough, even though my right foot feels like it is pushing over the insole of it. The Speed 1's I have are still a favorite but I hear you shouldn't run in plated shoes every day.
Any chance you're going to review the Adios 6? That might be what you're looking for in terms of a more sturdy, non-plated, PEBA based midsole shoe. They're selling very well even though they're a big departure from previous Adios models.
QoD there are more than one places, northsea with the sound of the waves and sand under your feet, but sometimes its just the garden with the pond and the three rabbits relaxing in the shade..
Seth, any chance you could get your hands on the Puma voyage trail shoes for review? Interested to see if the good work on the nitro line transfers over to the trails.
The Wave Rider 25 is my shoe of the year easily beating shoes like Pegasus 38 and Asics Gel-Cumulus 23 ! Loved the Rider so much that I ended getting the Rider Neo 2 as well . And I just started using Mizuno's shoes this year ... it has easily the best fit of any shoe for my size 8.5 US .
Seth, as we know, most runners typically meet their running mileage to complete races. As we all know, you are not a typical runner. Nutrition, weight training, flexibility/mobility and rest are equally important. As of today, I am no longer a typical runner. I finished my first 100 mile ultra yesterday (at age 59). All was well until just over halfway when the running gods broke out the magnifying glass. I knew my achilles and hips were my weekness. This race put the exclamation point on my weakness. Now I need a whole body plan. Any suggestions on where to find one? You, Truelove and the boys are such an inspiration to my family. God bless.
You need significant time off for starters- 100 milers have never done any body any good. Frankly, you'll be lucky if you haven't done permanent damage to your already weakened areas. Take some time, pour your energy into other outlets. Walk, bike, maybe do some light lifting in a few weeks. Time off is your only option; you do not want to rush back
@@blainmasterson3053 I do plan on taking time off, but I will continue ultra trail running with added xtraining and strengthening. Thanks for taking time to read and reply to my post.
Most relaxing place? Probably on a lake in the middle of nowhere with lines in the water before sunrise. I enjoy running trails in the morning during the summer months, that's relaxing as well.
QoD: it’s a toss up between St. Lucia and Martha’s Vineyard. Perhaps I just enjoy island life 🏝and cruising around on catamarans 🚤 because those are two very different islands, LOL!
I've only had one Mizuno shoe about 10+ years ago, the Nirvana, which I loved. None of their shoes have really interested me since then, but I might check this one out if i can find it locally. I will say that the Wave plate is a total waste for me, as I'm a midfoot/forefoot striker....rearfoot technology is meaningless to me. So yeah, ditch the plate.
QD: I went with a friend for spearfishing at a secluded and not easily accessible beach in northwestern Greece. After I finished spearfishing I laid down for 30 minutes sunbathing under the mild October sun and it was the most relaxing thing. The fact that it was only one day after a hard triathlon race made it even more valuable 🌞🇬🇷
