Kyle you seem to one of the most legit dudes I've seen behind camera. Honest and you actually care about the content and the rotary community. You are a legitimate resource to us all! I loved the video with you and Aaron from LSD. Thank you for all the content. As someone with a spare 13b at home this type of content is perfect and exciting. Keep up the good work !
Greatly appreciate the support and kind words. Aaron is an awesome guy. Just trying to show what we have been up to 🙌 thanks so much
I started the hybrid build after watching your older videos, I have everything done lapped plate re nitrided, deepened seal grooves. Just need the funds for all the seals. Can't wait
deepened side seal groves?
@@davidhusband5022 didn't watch the video. Lol
Fantastic work, sounds like you are on the right path. Any questions feel free to hit me up directly.
Where can i find parts?
I discovered your channel today and already watched so many videos. I wanna build a cool rotary now
Thank you Kyle! This is what everyone wants to see is there any gain from the Hybrid.
Go see our older video. We have built one in the past. 👍
@@KyleMohanRacing once I get your new secrets I'll have to use them as my blueprints for when my 8s engine dies
Guaranteed we’re going to follow this build. 🔥
thanks so much
Just when i was about to give up on this build due to lack of information this video popped up, so why is everyone just saying yeah screw renesis go rew on your rx8, i think this build is actually what it really needs.
With this much content on it, I'm seriously debating pulling the trigger
Very exciting. Can't wait for the build!!
Lets go cant wait to see this build so i can learn more about the renesis hybrid and build one in the future
So glad you guys started this series!!
Have a spare RX8 engine as was looking for something to do with it. Hybrid build and spare for my 8 sounds great. I cant wait for the series.
This is the Renesis rebuild I want to do on my future Rx8😅 first buy furniture for the nee house. Thanks for this explanation!
I’ve been waiting for some REAL info on this for years!
Basically you inspire me to build an engine like that.
Thanks goodness, been wanting this content!
mine jst pulled the "Its too cold to start" so im gonna b n touch w yall..
tryn the same thing w mine. great info🍻👍
Thanks for the upload!
Very informative stuff.
Loving the content. Would love to see even more of this lol
More to come soon. Collecting parts for the build.
@@KyleMohanRacing this is Lux Rotary. Looking forward to using your products when we are ready to pull more triggers on the build. Very soon.
Are you able to give a n/a Dyno number before you put a turbo on it and share that info
I'd be interested in this as well
N/a please 🙏 250whp its a perfect amount of power for the rx8
Hey Mr Mohan, what rx7 apex seals, corner seals and spring set are you running? the FD? FB? FC?
Absolutely want to watch this build! I remember seeing the first video where you mentioned the hybrid renesis. I was instantly hooked! I am worried though, i would like to see how exactly do you machine the rotors. I wouldn't want to destroy my own in the future.
The rotor machining process is done on a CNC it's nothing anybody is going to do at home generally. we offer the service through KMR and Mazdatrix.
I needed this info!
🥇🥇 Thanks for all info
So keen.
I recently ordered a hybrid exhaust flange. Although this flange has the center port blocked off, they say to avoid pulse interference.
So I'm going to need a GSL-SE center plate or fill the renesis center ports with molten aluminium and run the risk of carbon building at the edges. 😬
Just cut a hole in the flange, I have the same one.
@@jasonskinner1652 would be interested in seeing any UA-cam videos you guys post. This is a hot topic right now. Thanks guys.
Nice video I'm waiting the other parts 😀
Can the stock ECU handle the NA hybrid using mazdaedit?
I know someone running a Hybrid with 8:5 rotors, so far it seems running fine.
Yea, but they are not designed for side exhaust port. I know of one on methanol that is a full experimental land speed car. Only logged about 5k total miles. If you are building a short term race motor that will come apart often probably no issues.
@@KyleMohanRacing Yes, Landspeed is a good example. I know a guy that has it for the street. So, in long term usage do you think the side seals will wear faster due to extra heat?
@@josezuma2116 kinda outside of what we tested... but our data showed concerns about side seals both due to port intake shape wear and exhaust heat build-up. Also the wedge design on an RX8 side seal is meant to break down carbon which RX8s have way more carbon build-up. To really be quantified somebody would need to spend some money and do side-by-side testing.
@@KyleMohanRacing Great explanation, thanks Kyle.
Great job!
Thanks so much for watching
When you've got it all apart and ready to start, isn't it worth it to drill out the stud holes a little so you can use oversized studs? I was under the impression that added longevity to a new build. Thx
Awesome i was waiting for this for a long time niceee
Here we go..... plenty of hybrids on the way SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE post there findings good or bad as no one does 🤣🤣
Kyle, have you talked about modifying RX8 housings to mimic the periferal exhaust port of the RX7 housings? There's the feature in that same spot in the mold, and it's just begging to be machined out
Have all the parts ive just been waiting to find a chassis to drop it in
Kyle, do you think it's possible to use this method to create a four rotor naturally aspirated Renesis hybrid? It's been said that this is the parts you use to make a four rotor (short) side port rotary.
From front of the motor
Series 4 ('86) front iron (sec port for number 1 rotor)
series 4 center (pri ports for 1 and 2 rotor)
12a tallport center (sec ports for 2 and 3 rotor)
series 4 center (pri ports for 3 and 4 rotor)
series 4 rear iron (sec port for number 4 rotor)
How about a Renesis or Renesis hybrid version for maximum streetability?
This is fantastic content and I look forward to more videos on this motor. Will it be turbocharged?
Thanks so much for checking out the build. More coming later this week.
Interesting, and what about apex seals like Goopy 2mm direct fit in a hybrid renesis ?
Just a question, why did you use modified rx8 rotors instead of fd rotors? What are the benefits to the renesis rotors that made you stick with them?
the RX8's number 1 failure is the inner coolant seal failing. Would you say doing this to a street RX8 might help with it's reliability/longevity?
Have you strapped a turbo to one of these? Those things should flow an insane amount to spool up a turbo pretty quickly.
We have already done it. And yes it was great.
@@KyleMohanRacing Any info on it? How was the spool and is there a video?!?!
@@IBoughtASupra yep, I've got a few older videos on the channel talking about the old car build and setup worked.
@@IBoughtASupra spool is a turbo size thing more than motor thing unless you over port stuff.
I've wanted to do this for my rx8 forever 😅 guess I have to now
Thinking of building one for my Racecar. Do you have any dyno numbers for an N/A version?
Id like to see this evolve to a 20b version 🤔
Can't be built, the parts don't match up. There are no side port 20b parts currently
@@KyleMohanRacing well in Australia a company made 3 rotor e shaft for rx8 renesis engine and rob dahm is doing some very interesting machining curently on rotorys so i think it could be done if someone would just pioneere the project 1st
@@kingmaybus8409 Shafts aren't the problem. You would use a basic 20b shaft or short 20b shaft,
but short shafts are weaker and not going to make any real power compared to traditional 20b parts.
The fact that there are no side port exhaust plates is the issue. No one makes after market plates that are side port exhaust. And no one makes a 20b plate with side port exhaust. I was also thinking OEM parts like what we are doing here in this build so it cost effective.
Would be a CNC expense project.
Happy to help if you go after it.
@@KyleMohanRacing Food for thought huh...thanks for the conversation i really respect you for taking the time i also SUB'D 🤘😎
Would it be possible to go turbo power with renesis rotors in this configuration? Or would it be worth it to buy rx7 turbo rotors with lower compression?
Check out the video series, or other hybrid videos. We talk about how we can figure it our setups and what works.
Did you keep the gsl exhaust sleeve? Is it ok to keep them and grind out the small egr pipes?
is the gsl se exhuast port timing the same as the rx8 exhaust port timing?
Thanks Kyle! Will you start off NA and go boosted later?
Can semi pp intake ports work with this renesis hybrid build?
Finally!
Could this be done with the 4 port RX-8 side housing?
What about the 4 port renesis…how’s fitment?! And power wise copmpared to the 6 port
I have a 4 port 13B renasis rotary engine, will it still work?
Will this have a nice pulse to it?
I have a perfect set of S4 housings. Can the o-ring grooves be cut in them?
How much power can you get out of a N/A hybrid rotary
Is it possible to make a 12a/13b renesis hybrid engine?
what is the cost to build ? Have an '09 R3 motor only has 12k miles on it.
Is it possible to buy already configurated Rotors at your shop?
Greetings from germany.
We could setup whatever you need.

Thanks Kyle, have an 8 that needs a new engine and would like to start with this in an N/A build with OEM intake and ecu and then transition to a forced induction system (1bar Max ) with standalone ECU in a few years (probably 10k miles)
Thoughts?
Buy an adaptronic now while you still can lol
@@kaizousha5531 still can? They going under or modification legislation.
@@erichansen4718 yeah they already went under. Company is dead existing stock is being sold and they aren't making any more. Haltech bought them and doesn't want any competition

How to use the omp nozzle ?
Make sure to follow, we will be going over the whole build process.
@@KyleMohanRacing thank you 👍🏻
premix
Put 2 pipes to one oil injector .
how much power do these things make ? rebuild time for my renisis
well fuck, already built and put the fucker in with racing rx8 apex seals with gsl se seals. i guess i just pray.
how is it
If they are harder it's fine
I wonder if an NA hybrid would pass Euro 4 emissions standards with proper emissions gear.
If your going to encourage this setup please show the process of correctly modifying the rotor .like a video when it's being performed with measurements!! So other machine shops dont ruin rotors..
Its copying the RX7 groove dimensions. Only use machine shops familiar with the processes, or send them to KMR or Mazdatrix so we can do it right.
Subbed! 🙏
What is the expected increase in horse power without enlarging the ports?
No idea. Every one of them I've built has been ported
Will it be turbo or N/A?
Have to wait and see.
Please can you answer me a question? Some just make pheriferical exhaust ports on the stock renesis housings also some block the side ports.. why dont you just make ports on the stock housings and get the rx7 gsl-se ones? Please someone answer me that :(
In the video we say we use GSLSE rotor housings. Thats what we recommend. Make sure to check out our videos
Yes I know but why not drill the renesis housings instead of using rx7 ?
@@renos9234 i think the gsl-se housings are available new and not expensive
How much power should this setup be able to handle boosted?
Stay tuned to learn more about our setups.
Any progress on the build ?
Just posted an update, but will have a longer video out very soon.
That middle exhaust port is so damn restrictive looking (but is it really?). Is there a way to get the GSL-SE middle iron to work in this combo? Would make the exhaust header a little less complicated, to boot.
Ehhhh, why decrease exhaust potential just to make a mount easier on a custom build?
@@KyleMohanRacing Look at it this way: if we assumed that all rotaries benefit from having specifically the extra side exhaust ports, why isn’t everyone building these hybrids? Everything I have read leads me to believe the center siamese ports are tiny and problematic with a N/A engine. On a turbo engine there is pressure behind the ports and up to the turbine housing, negating the need for any real exhaust tuning (scavenging). I’m looking at building a N/A hybrid and was simply curious if the center GSL-SE iron would work, given that the rotor housings can be used in this combination.
how much power does this setup expected to make, on pump gas or E85?
If I run it NA I'm hoping to get close to 300 if I end up boosting it I'll be aiming for around 500 plus, might try both
The last one we built did 430 horsepower at 12 to 14psi with an old t4 turbo on 105 octane gas. Depending on fuel and tune it can easily do more with ethanol or more boost.
@@KyleMohanRacing wow, that's really good gains for NA. so hard to extract power from Rene
I need to build a motor for my fb. Things been heartless for over 10 years now. A hybrid with a semi pp sounds interesting to me especially if you could run itb...granted that seems like it would be a hella mess of runners, that would Def be a cast part to make it simpler. Oh man if someone could do a 3d metal print of a intake that would be great but so expensive...this is why I can't build a motor. My mind goes off the rails and wanders
How about a 12A Hybrid Renesis?🤔
so anyone have a exhaust that will work ?
I sell the stainless flange on my ebay store. Most fabrication shops can build from our flange. www.kylemohanracing.com but the eBay section.
I have a Series 2 RX8... not sure if this will work for me? But I did call Mazdatrix and they sent me a parts list for my engine.
But I need to know what I'll need for the fuel and oil system? I also need to know or find a shop to make the custom header in Los Angeles.
Anyone out there have the information I need? Would really appreciate the help because I'd like to get all the parts I need for this project.
It will most likely be a custom setup, go larger oil coolers, racing beat race oil regulator... . I like using radium engineering for furl components.
someone should put a parts list together for everyone
Hell jhaaa😁🤘😝
This makes you think about a 6port 12a renesis build
Could someone just use s5 na rotors to save money instead of grooving out the rx8 rotors?
Its not really tested. The side exhaust ports cause extra heat in side seals and rotor side. One of the reasons RX8 rotors have a scraper ring and a unique side seal. We keep RX8 rotors with RX8 side plates and rx7 rotors with rx7 motors. So basically I dont know. But we do know our combination worked
the hard part is going to be making a header for an NA app and a turbo manifold for a turbo app.
We sell the stainless steel flange
I Wire cut the Rx8 corners, far better compression and strength...
Yep. Ive seen it done. 👍
Build a 12a Renesis
if its the rx7 housing why not just use rx7 rotors

Can you explain why these hybrid engines tend to fail so often and/or what the root causes of failure are? This topic is brought up so often and seldom actually done with a lot of hype and virtually nothing shown for results (more specifically in terms of long term reliable use). Until I see some legitimate long term problem free results (at least 100,000 miles of real world use) I still remain firm on my opinion of these hybrid engines. I encourage anyone to do this if they're willing to actually share their results, but that just never happens unfortunately.
These engines are extremely reliable in street yous. I think its just down to a lot of inexperienced people out here building rubbish and a lot of people that say they ant any good with out knowing anything about them
Lol. Stay tuned if you want more info.
