So glad your on the move and things are looking up. Certainly your smile and spirits are an indication its getting better with time. I hope your satisfied Karls seaworthiness as you venture farther afield. Stay positive and stay safe out there.
Glad you're back up and sailing again. Manny may have worked hard on his vacation but any time spent with you and Maria would be time well spent. Fair winds, following seas and all my prayers go with you.
Makrolon is polycarbonate, amazingly tough! You can take a piece, put it between two pieces of wood and hit it with a hammer ... a BIG hammer, as hard as you like ... it does not break. Truly incredible stuff.
With all the near hysterical dialogue around here about Woman Strong, you are! What a great example of determination, grit, humor, emotion... all the attributes of a strong person. In this case, a strong woman! Keep up the good work and hopefully some of the poor put upon young people who feel the world owes them a living will find you and see what Woman Strong really means.
Glad you're back up and running. It brightens up my Friday. The new windows will be well worth it in the long run. I truly believe after watching your videos the past few years that there is nothing you can't do. I am amazed, inspired, and motivated by you. Thank you and sail on.
It's one of the best videos in the last months. Thanks for that. Instead of the massive polycarbonate (Makrolon) or PMMA (Plexiglass) you can think about canvas with flexible foil windows. That's cheaper and easier to replace if damaged. Or think about polishing the PMMA you have. It works and its only because of the age a little yellowish. So the only part need to be replaced would be the foldable one in the middle. Fair winds Tom
I do enjoy your videos and travels. Also the pop up GPS Co-ord. I can jump to Google Earth and imagine I am there and not in my cabin with a -1.6 degrees F out side. I do not mind the cold but would love to be on a sail boat. Enjoy your adventure.
Such a vivid story, beautifully told. As ever, an inspiration. 🤙🎉 I was in that Panama anchorage a few weeks ago ... there’s like *no* shelter once an onshore breeze sets in. Rock and roll ... 😱
Oh man tearing into a ST raymarine brings back a lot of memories of sailing around Lake Michigan in my little old Columbia 29. My gear kept slipping on the motor shaft. I found a few dabs of locktite helped but it would still occasionally slip off. I finally fixed it by putting in a fresh motor. You can find forums pointing you to where to get a fresh one. They are just a hobby toy car motor lol costs about $11. Worth having a spare on board if it's your only autohelm option. Nice work on the compass. Never had a problem with mine, but it was cool to see how it worked. I also always kept a towel covering it as it'd heat up a ton in the sun and would shut down. Keeping it shaded fixed that.
Super, thanks for the update Nike. You, and the crew, have put in a tremendous amount of hard labor getting Karl ship shape for the coming journey. Fair seas to everyone.
Nikki you gave me a great incentive to get your 1st 3 years documentary , thanks! Lexan is expensive , nothing you can do except make smaller windows and use glass like a lot of boat builder use! Cheers Warren
As an IT consultant it pains me whenever someone loses data. :( As I understand your current setup you have SSDs that you mail to Patrice. Which is a great way to get around the internet bandwidth issues in remote areas. I don't know if you keep a copy of all the video on Karl until Patrice is done with making them into an episode. When Patrice receives the mailed drives he should be making a copy of the files in a new drive or to a NAS/server immediately. That way if the working drive has an accidental deletion or fails you have a backup you can copy to a new working drive and continue. On boats and in computers, spares let you replace broken parts and continue on your way. Data can be copied many times to many different drives or places in order to protect it.
Thanks , I remember that bay , I think I said buy a beta while you were trying to tack out !, what’s your plan you going to pasific , Fiji , Tonga , etc nz are you thinking , would be good to catch up one day !keep going thanks
I've seen this episode somewhere already? So glad to get the update on Barry. (I read his facebook post). Just slept 12 hours, nearly straight thru. Awoke only once to pee, my sea legs were back and I had to lay on the bathroom floor so's not to puke. Tumaco to Salt Lake City took me 29 hours, 4 plane changes, two layovers, seven more rejections by my Wells, fucking Fargo Bancard!!! PS: After interviewing these two ladies, (24/7).9.78, I must say: they are the two most charming, wonderful, competent, graceful, strong, generous, adventurous, young women, I have met since Billie and Susan ran Liaison back in the 80's Notice I put that entire sentence together without mentioning they are also stone cold foxes.
The other windows.... Is it possible for you to sand them (grit 120 up to 3600)? Others have done it - if there's enough material on them of course. :)
Yay - I'm first. BIG problem with rudder :) I'd been wondering how long you were going to put up with that gaffer tape on the windows, but , yeah, expensive
Thanks for posting. Did you lose the footage of testing what cartridge resistance Karl has with the new lexan windows?!?!?! Arrrgh, even more a "pirate of whitespots." Booty this episode is vocabulary, "beveled" is called "biselado" in Spanish. Wonder what is it in German ",abgeschrägt?" Cheers, s/v good karma
I have heard sd cards fail excessively. I have had one sd, one usb, several hard drives fail on me. Which media ate your data? Single sd in the camera?
Lyfan Deth 🙈 no, it was actually totally my own fault. I had overloaded my ssd drive quite a bit, which lead to some loss and I had deleted some data by accident thinking I had already copied and saved them 😬😬😬🙄
IF u go to Ecuador - go out at least 250 miles b 4 u turn South. 300 would be better. U may not b safe otherwise . carry 2 or 3 flare guns & bear spray PLEASE .
@@WhiteSpotPirates of course he loved it ... how could any man not love being stuck in a tropical Paradise with you on a sailboat I volunteered to be your next slave ... LOL

You have a natural gift to fix anything...and an attitude to see it all through... love watching your adventures..

Thanks for posting and sharing. Glad to hear that Manny got rewarded for all his hard work.

I just think your ability to rebuild and fix things is tops!
Glad you are back. I enjoy your videos. Brought my boat last year, your are an inspiration for solo female boat owners. And Maria... Fair winds

warp21drive thank you for supporting our movie, I hope you enjoyed it 👍
Veo tus vídeos ,y nuca te vi disfrutar del mar ,o de tu velero , siempre estas reparando cosas .
Always impressive.👍
I enjoy your videos, I would like to do something like that in the area of the Bahamas
Great point about wear and tear on the gun with higher pressure rounds. Gold dots are the best, whatever is pushing them.
Yes lexan is very expensive but your going to be glad you did be careful drilling your holes

you should have used acrylic like OEM's Lexan scratches very easy, you will find out in a few months
The other windows.... Is it possible for you to sand them (grit 120 up to 3600)? Others have done it - if there's enough material on them of course. :)
Knoklsnedkr it’s possible, for sure. Mine have quite some small cracks and scratches, so I think it’s safer to replace them in the long run.

polycarbonate unfortunately is UV-stable for only five years.
Unless the polycarbonate is treated or coated against UV.
Agree but coating options don’t seem to work well - have experimented with two brands
